Metal icons SOULFLY are set to release their devastating new album “Ritual”, on October 19 via Nuclear Blast. Today, the band has unleashed the second single from that release, this time in the form of a 360º video.

Comments vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera: “This song took a long time and almost didn’t make the record. We recorded it as an instrumental and ran out of time in the studio. We ended up having to fly Josh Wilbur (producer) out to my house to finish the vocals. He kept on telling me he wanted more of that ‘tribal shit’ like some of the stuff on our first record and ‘Primitive’. We ended up creating the chorus on the spot and layering something like 12 or 16 tracks of chanting for it. After we heard it and were listening back, we got really excited and were high-fiving each other. Josh just turned to me and said that was what he wanted to hear as a fan, and he was really happy to get that out of me. We both knew it was a new SOULFLY classic for the ages and had to be the album opener. I’m really proud of this song and I think old-school fans of my work are going to love it.”

Comments guitarist/vocalist Max Cavalera: “I am really stoked to be working again with two of my favorite artists, Eliran Kantor and Marcelo Vasco! The »Ritual« artwork is very mystic and captures the vibe of the album perfectly. For this one, we really tried to retain the groove of early SOULFLY as well as my love for the heavy, fast stuff I’m into: like death and black metal and some hardcore. Working with Josh Wilbur for SOULFLY this time around has been amazing. He’s a huge fan and added a lot to the record. I would fight for the fast songs and he would always push me to add more groove. I think in the end we created a really cool mix of songs that covers a lot of ground in my career. Let the Ritual begin!”
Producer Josh Wilbur adds: Before I had ever recorded a record, in my formidable years, Max released the holy trinity that was (at least to me) »Chaos A.D.«, »Roots«, and »Soulfly«. I wanted to make a record that captured what I loved about those when I was growing up! Those records inspired me and introduced me to heavy metal. Fast forward to now and I was given the opportunity to make the record I wanted as an fan! So I set up some mics, recorded some riffs, we banged on some galvanized metal, roto toms, djembes, and anything else we could get, then I told Max to ‘BRING DA SHIT’!”
»Ritual« was produced, recorded and mixed by Josh Wilbur (KILLER BE KILLED, LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA). Cover artwork was painted by artist Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, ICED EARTH, SODOM). Additional booklet art was handled by Marcelo Vasco (SLAYER, HATEBREED, KREATOR), who also handled the package design. The album features multiple guests including Randy Blythe (LAMB OF GOD) and Ross Dolan (IMMOLATION).

SOULFLY‘s latest studio album »Archangel«, was released on August 14th, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The album was produced and mixed by Matt Hyde (SLAYER, BEHEMOTH, CHILDREN OF BODOM), and features stunning cover artwork of artist Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, HATEBREED, ICED EARTH, SODOM).
SOULFLY/CAVALERA CONSPIRACY guitarist Marc Rizzo has announced a NYC listening party for his new LP “Rotation”, in stores now via Combat Records. The listening party will take place tomorrow, Friday 6th April, at DUFF’s Alcohol Abuse Center in Brooklyn. Rizzo, on tour starting April 17 with SOULFLY, has additionally announced two FYE instore meet and greet performances, Sunday 4/22 at Philadelphia Mills FYE, and Saturday 5/19 at Arizona Mills FYE.
“Rotation”, featuring cover art by Melody Myers (Escape The Fate, Combat Bullets), is the 4th solo release for Rizzo, following 2004’s “Colossal Myopia”, 2006’s “The Ultimate Devotion” (both released by legendary shred label Shrapnel), and the independently released 2010 LP “Legionnaire”.
Produced by Chris “Zeuss” Harris (Hatebreed, Soulfly, Rob Zombie, Chimaira), and featuring cover art by Melody Myers (Escape The Fate), “Rotation” is a blistering showcase of Rizzo’s pummeling eclectic diversity, showcased on album tracks including “Spectral Intensities”, “Thrash Boogie”, and title track “Rotation”, combining Rizzo’s penchant for pummeling, low-end riffs, with thrash-intensive leads and heavy latin flavor.

Originally a member of New Jersey latin-metal favorites ILL NINO, appearing on their classic 2001 Roadrunner release REVOLUTION REVOLUCION, and the 2003 follow-up CONFESSION, Rizzo joined SOULFLY in 2004, and has since appeared on all subsequent Soulfly records including; PROPHECY, DARK AGES, CONQUER, OMEN, ENSLAVED, SAVAGES, and ARCHANGEL. In 2007, Rizzo became a member of CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, the side project of Sepultura co-founders, brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera, and has performed on all Cavalera Conspiracy releases including INFLIKTED, BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA, PANDEMONIUM, and the critically acclaimed 2017 release PSYCHOSIS.
Says Rizzo, “I spent a couple years talking to David (Ellefson) and Thom (Hazaert) about releasing Rotation and when the COMBAT thing came up it just really felt right. I have known both David and Thom, literally for the better part of 2 decades, and I’m really excited to have such a killer team putting their stamp on my record.”

“Marc’s an awesome guitar player. He’s a badass.” Says Ellefson. “So when Thom started talking to him about his new record, Zeuss sent over some tracks, and we were all really excited. And it just turned out to be a great, natural fit for the new incarnation of COMBAT. Marc is a brutal, heavy player, but so technically proficient and tasteful, and able to blend so many styles into what he does, whatever he’s doing, whether it’s Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, or his solo stuff.”
