Austin Police Department have confirmed DeAndre Tatum is the latest fatality. They’d previously identified the first three victims as Jamie West, 27, Steve Craenmehr, 35, and Sandy Thuy Le, 26.
Suspect Rashad Charjun Owens was tasered and apprehended after driving a car, believed to have been stolen, into a queue outside the Mohawk music venue during the annual festival.
He’s charged with two counts of murder and 23 of assault – but could face further charges as a result of the two later deaths.
Evan West, husband of Jamie, is one of those who remains in hospital after the incident on March 17.
Eyewitnesses spoke of people being thrown into the air “like popping popcorn.” Police chief Art Acevedo described the action as “intentional” and added: “This is an individual who showed no regard for the human beings that he ploughed through.”
Black Star Riders frontman Ricky Warwick later told of his relief as his wife Tina, who’d been in the Mohawk queue, survived the ordeal. He said: “Counting my blessings this morning – Tina is okay, but very shook up. Cherish the ones you love, people.”
