Montreal Canada’s THE AGONIST are pleased to announce they have signed a worldwide deal with Napalm Records.
Guitarist Danny Marino on signing with Napalm Records:
“We are thrilled to start the next chapter of THE AGONIST with Napalm Records! Since recording Eye of Providence we have been exploding with creativity and are set to record our best record to date. We’ve been working non-stop on the material on and off the road and now after four albums we have really found ourselves. Vicky and I seem to operate on a hive mind where we know exactly what the other is going for in the writing before it happens. It can actually be freaky sometimes. We are also very excited to be recording this album with Mike Plotnikoff. His experience and input will really help take our sound to a new level.”
Napalm Records A&R Demetri Benoist said about the signing of THE AGONIST: “We are very excited to be working with THE AGONIST, this is a new chapter. THE AGONIST are poised to take it to the next level. Getting them in the studio to work with Mike Plotnikoff was a no brainer. Mike is going to push the envelope and help bring out their best. Napalm Records is committed to making the new album their most successful.”
The band is currently in the studio with producer Mike Plotnikoff to record their new album shortly. Plotnikoff produced, engineered, and mixed Buckcherry’s very successful “15” record, Otep, Like A Storm, Escape the Fate, Halestorm, Drowning Pool, Theory of a Deadman, 3 Doors Down, Black Stone Cherry, Fear Factory, Flyleaf, Skillet. P.O.D. and Like A Storm.
THE AGONIST has premiered the official music video for “Follow the Crossed Line”, can be seen below, taken from their latest album “Eye of Providence”, on Century Media Records. The video, which was directed by bassist Chris Kells, features live, pro-shot footage of THE AGONIST‘s recent Heavy MTL performance.
Having previously worked with a variety of artists (Dr. Alban, E-Type, the Poodles, etc.), singer MARTINA EDOFF is ready to return to where her original musical love – classic hard rock – with the release of her solo debut, ‘Unity’ on October 16th via Into Records (distributed by Cargo Records), and will embark on a US tour from September 18th through October 3rd on a bill that will feature headliners EPICA, as well as ELUVEITIE and THE AGONIST.
View the tour and album trailer below:
‘Unity’ was recorded at the legendary Bohus Sound Studios in Sweden, whose long list of clients since the start 35 years ago includes both ABBA and Status Quo (who recorded their hit album and best-selling single ”Rockin’ All Over The World” in the same studio). Martina’s producer and sound engineer, Tobias Lindell, has previously recorded, mixed, and produced bands such as Europe, Mustasch, and Hardcore Superstar at Bohus Sound.
Martina describes the material on ‘Unity’ as “uptempo rock,” but several ballads help even things out. Standout tracks (and their creative inspiration) include:
Unity
“It´s a wake up call for those who only seek satisfaction in the material world. The true wealthiness begins from the inside of ourselves.”
Never Let You Down
“A proposal to someone who has been through bad relationship experiences.”
World Has Gone Mad music video can be viewed here:
“Today in the western world we spend more time in front of a screen than we spend time in nature or with loved ones. Life passes by quickly without really noticing it. If we don’t open our eyes to the real world we might miss what really happens.”
Spirit of Light
“To all the young ones out there who has their lives in front of them. How valuable they are and to tell them how fantastic they are.”
I am Mining
“Ones that seek shall find. Its about to find whatever you are searching for and never give up even if it seems impossible.”
Love Keeps Turning Away
“The game of love. Even if you fail you got to try it again.”
Moment of Truth
“It´s about being in a relationship where the truth came out about lies and betrayals.”
This Love is Crazy
“Someone is playing with your emotions and you realize you gotta get out of it.”
Argentina-based fans will get an opportunity to catch a performance by not only Martina, but also by Tarja Turunen as special guest support, at their show in Argentina on the November 14th, at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas: http://www.facebook.com/events/571897269616254

Premiering on GuitarWorld.com, guitarists Danny Marino and Paco Jobin of THE AGONIST take listeners through “A Necessary Evil” in the first of a three part play through video series of fan requested singles from their latest album, Eye Of Providence, on Century Media Records.
We’re stoked to have our guitar playthrough video premiered on Guitar World! We’ve been getting a lot of requests from fans for guitar playthrough videos from our new album Eye of Providence. So after listening to the fans, we picked a few songs and got our resident bassist/video director Chris Kells to shoot a couple songs. This first video is for one of my favorite songs on the album, A Necessary Evil. It has a nice blend of staccato riffing, interesting chord extensions and of course, a ripping solo by my man Paco Jobin! states Guitarist Danny Marino)”

Montreal-based five-piece metal outfit THE AGONIST recently released their fifth studio album THE EYE OF PROVIDENCE via Century Media. This fall they will embark on Revolver Magazine‘s North American “Women In Rock” tour. Dutch symphonic metal titans EPICA and Swiss folk metallers ELUVEITIE will co-headline the tour and THE AGONIST will support all dates. (See dates below)
The band recently released a new video for “Danse Macabre” from the album. You can check it out on the Century Media YouTube channel here:
THE EYE OF PROVIDENCE, or God’s all-seeing eye, is a piece of religious iconography with origins stemming back to ancient Egypt. But THE AGONIST aren’t going all History Channel on their new album. The lyrical center isn’t about pyramids, the Freemasons, or its appearance on the United States one-dollar bill. As on previous albums, The Agonist are commenting heavily on advances in monitoring technology, particularly as it relates to governments intruding on the private lives of its citizens.
“We are embracing a number of new topics,” admits guitarist Danny Marino with a cryptic smile. “The Agonist still wants to be a voice for change. However, there are many socio-political and personal topics that we haven’t yet covered. We get into some of those on this record.”
You can also check out their video for “A Gentle Disease” on Century Media’s YouTube channel:
