When asked about her initial reaction when she found out about the robbery
“I had a really heartbreak sad week, it’s been really heartbreaking what has happened to our family, to my mom and to Randy, no words. When this first happened I could not believe it, I started crying. I was devastated, who would do this? We open our hearts to the fans, we love to keep our brothers legacy alive out there and now we feel so violated and it was such a brutal attack that when I went to Musonia I was just stunned at what they did to the place. ”
When asked about the stolen items
“It was definitely a Randy Rhoads hit we believe a hundred percent they were looking for his guitars, I totally believe that. We tell people year after year after year for forty years we don’t keep his stuff in her homes and at Musonia. So we thought you know this would never happen. I think they were looking for guitars but when they didn’t find any they just cleaned out 40 years of history since had been Randy’s gone, every picture The Osbournes have given us, every picture of Randy, 40 years of memorabilia and equipment. In terms of stolen equipment there was the amp head from Quiet Riot days, they stole Randy’s first electric Harmony Rocket guitar probably about 1963. They stole a white Marshall head amp. I think they took either one or two, if anybody finds it,it was given to my mother after the company released it. There were so many instruments that were stolen. The trumpet that was stolen and let me tell you the history of it because this is probably one of the most devastating items stolen from us. In the Depression era my grandfather was a medical doctor in San Bernardino, that was his practice. Back then with the Great Depression people didn’t have money to pay for medical services. So as a barter for medical services my grandfather was given this trumpet, then he gave it to my mom and the rest is musical history in the Rhoads family and that changed her life. That trumpet was a very significant trumpet because the company it came from in World War 2 the Nazi’s bombed that company from France and so the company no longer exists. I remember my mom telling me when I was little about that trumpet, that there were silver coins used to melt down to make it, so that’s a gut-wrenching loss.”
“It’s just unbelievable there’s nothing left to show anybody, my brother Kelle did Musonia tours he did a phenomenal job on these tours he’s fantastic at it, now what is he gonna do? There’s nothing to show fans except a building that’s empty it’s so sad. They did not take pianos out of there I’m not gonna say every instruments is gone but our heart is gone from the Randy memorabilia my mother’s trumpet. I forgot to mention a very historic French horn that was my mother’s that was also taken. The Thieves just went down the hallways and took everything off the walls it was un-real.”
When asked about Ozzy Osbournes $25,000 reward to catch the robbers
“I believe that he said and you can all look up it’s on his Instagram, Facebook page which is like stunning to me, I mean I I just tear up when I think about what he’s done helping this crime be solved. The $25,000 is to the return of stolen items and I believe and/or conviction of the criminals so either one. We’ve always had the highest admiration a good rapport with them both Ozzy and Sharon they were wonderful to my mother they treated her so well I’ve always respected and appreciated that all these years so our relationship with them it’s good. I have to say this about Ozzy and Sharon they hold Randy and very high esteem they’ve always done that. I know this was very devastating to them as well and I appreciate that I really do it’s very heartfelt, it’s not phony, it’s not fake. I’ve been in touch with the office management I had a very close relationship with them they let me know about this and that they were gonna do this and I needed to provide photos for it so that’s what happened. They’re very detailed photos on Ozzy Facebook page if anybody wants to see detailed photos. We’ve found some incredibly high professional quality photos as some of the key items that are missing not all of them we just decided to do the key items and in the last picture in the grand salon of Musonia pretty much everything in that whole photo is gone.”
When asked about the good and dark side of fans of Randy
“You know 90% of the fans are amazing but there is always one twisted person.”
When asked what the future is for Musonia
” I own it with my brother but Kelle runs it. The pride that I take in that building the history that it has, the memories I have growing up there and practically my second home as I said. We will go forward I will not stop this has to be preserved as a historical place and that’s my mission. I’m not gonna let them win they’re not going to destroy our spirit and my brother Randy’s spirit and my mom this would have devastated my mother and by golly they’re not gonna win. ”

Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke with Kelle Rhoads brother of Randy Rhoads and Director of the school of Musonia in North Hollywood about the recent break in and robbery at the school.
Watch the interview below.
When asked when the burglary happened
“This would have occurred some somewhere after Thanksgiving and before the next morning so in the middle of the night on the 28th of November 2019. We were aware of it on Friday the next day when somebody that works down in the backyard called me and said you’ve been broken into. It was devastating. It’s bad, the Rhodes family essentially has no more pictures or memories there’s no more memorabilia or pictures or anything about my brother Randy it’s all gone it’s devastating. Also the cabinetry of the school was vandalized, if anybody has been here they’ll recognize we had beautiful wood cabinets and the ones in the grand salon had glass in them well these people didn’t break any glass but they took a crowbar and a chisel to the wooden cabinets and just completely disfigured the drawers it’s it’s sickening to even think about it.”
When asked if there were any eyewitnesses or leads
“No they robbed the place when everyone was sleeping around here. ”
When asked what other items they stole
“They took Randy’s amps but they left the cabinets, they were probably too heavy to take. They even stole a beautiful picture that somebody painted and a picture of me performing the inaugural show of the Randy Rhoads remembered concert series. They spent some time here they even turned one of the heaters on so they’d be warm while they were robbing us blind. They also took the first guitar that Randy ever played. And they stole a pre-world War rare French Besson trumpet that was my mom’s almost all of her life and her French horn.”
When asked if the robbers could have been major Randy fans or just looking to make a fast buck
“They took too much stuff that was just related to Randy they had to be fans, they knew what they were looking for. Now one thing that’s really scary is what if they were hoarders and they just want to own it so they won’t resell it and put it out. I can’t imagine them trying to sell this stuff people are gonna know that it belongs to Musonia and get caught. Unless they’re gonna sell it to a fan who just want to own anything and everything they can of Randy’s and keep it private. They would have probably taken the Musonia tour because there was some stuff that that they went for that they would have been exposed to when they took the tour. ”
When asked if the police has any leads
“The police aren’t real cooperative right now they’re kind of like we’ll make a report which they did and too bad for your loss. A lot of people have been burglarized lately so good luck we’ll see you bye. It’s real hard to even communicate with the police either to many burglaries and the police don’t have the manpower or they found a really good place to get the coffee and the donuts.”
When asked about any last comments
“We got cleaned out, they cleaned us out, they must have had a big truck and they they knew what they were looking for and they basically just cleaned us out. The school is an empty shell right now. It impacts the fans because there’s nothing there to take a Rhoads tour, we were planning on making a museum here dedicated to my brother and my mom and there’s nothing left to put in the museum. Right now of course we’re still giving lessons but everything else is just done.
“What’s weird, we were broken into almost three years ago, almost the exact same time of year in November but they only got some amps from the guitar dept. We didn’t have cameras but we had Iron bars but the robbers had special bar cutters to cut those bars that is what I always thought that would be everything secure. ”
“We will carry on I lived through my mom’s death and my brothers death, so this is just things at the end of the day, don;t get my wrong these were very personnel things. But if I can make it the two tragedies, the death of my mom and brother I can make it through this.”

For The Metal Voice former Anthrax singer Neil Turbin spoke to King Diamond guitarist Andy LaRocque and Bassist Pontus Egberg on December 3 2020 in California at The Grove of Anaheim. LaRocque spoke about the making of the new single Masquerade of Madness and gave an update on the upcoming album The Institute.
Watch the interview below.
When asked about the latest single Masquerade of Madness
“So far we only have one song from the upcoming album done, we are still working on the new songs for the next album. We really haven’t composed that many songs yet I have about 4-5 in the loop and King has a lot of ideas and he hasn’t had time to put them down on the computer. So one song Masquerade of Madness, we have managed this summer to play live. For this song I came up with the music and then King needed to re-arrange a few things to make it work with his vocals and then of course he wrote the lyrics. A little back and forth between me and King until it worked.”
When asked about an update on the upcoming albums
“2007 was the last album, it’s been a few years but music takes time. While King Diamond will be with MercyFul Fate doing shows in the summer I will be working on the songs, recording, mixing for the album, I will be busy. ”
When asked when The Institute album will be released
“There will be two albums, the first one will be released late 2020, it will be a concept story over two albums. The second part of the story will be released in the future.”
When asked how the Institute compares musically to past King Diamond albums
“Music wise, I have been looking back to the origins of King Diamond music back in the 80’s and that’s what we have been trying to go back and find, the original roots. So I would say the new album is back to the roots. a lot of riffs will have the style of the early album.”

Jimmy Kay and Alan Dixon from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke legendary Canadian guitarist Frank Marino. Marino Spoke about his new Blu-Ray DVD ‘ Live in Agora‘ his upcoming 50th anniversary tour and his opinion on fans paying bands for Meet and Greets.
Watch the interview here:
When asked about his new Blu-Ray DVD ‘ Live in Agora
“I think there is about 56 tracks on it, it’s 6 hours long it’s roughly 3 two hour sets. It was done by some really good people who really know how to shoot, the producer who put it all together and his team had done the last 12 or 13 videos for Bruce Springsteen, so we had that crew. We had the lighting director who did the work for AC/DC. It looks very good. I really approached the audio a little different than most Live recordings, usually when you are recording and mixing a live record you generally take a perspective of your in the 15th row and watching the band in a hall at a certain distance. But what I did was I wanted to mix it where I am literally on stage at the middle microphone, people never mix live records like that and I think they should. I wanted the sound to match what the camera was doing.”
When asked about the filming of the video and the book that accompanies the DVD
“I told the producer if we are going to do this video we are going to do as much shooting as we can in one day. So did a 12 hour show. We had a Friday night with a 7 hour sound check with the people in the hall and then the next day we started at noon and we finished at one in the morning. I said we are going to do as much as we can from all my old albums, with songs we never played before. I said let’s do as much as we can in one day and we did. So when I ended up mixing down it took many many years because there was some damage to it and took a long time to fix it. So here it is today, I have it down to 6 hours I have all the most important stuff in there.
“So then I wrote a book, a journalist wrote half the book and I wrote the last 20 chapters and in the last 20 chapters I’m basically telling the story of the last years in depth. A book, a blue Ray and DVD’s in the same box and so far people are saying they like it.”
When asked his opinion on fan paid Meet and Greets at shows
“I wont do this but from what I understand a lot of artists I knew, now they are going out and they are selling VIP tickets to meet them which is ridiculous because I spent my whole life meeting everybody before and after every show I have ever done, for free. But now they are selling this Meet and Greet. in the old days you couldn’t even meet these guys even if you offered to pay them money. And I’m thinking what is the psychology behind that? Guys standing behind the rope line letting two at a time sitting on your lap like you are Santa Claus. I find something screwy about that, weird. The agents that we are using to go out on tour this time even suggested this VIP to me. And I said no, what are you nuts? I’m not going to do that.”
When asked about his past tour with Uli Jon Roth
“Uli and I are good friends, I spent some time over there in England we did this legends of rock tour and I had a good time with it. Even over there on that tour I saw things creeping into the actual touring, the autographs and the Meet and Greet. One night and I kind of got in trouble because they said we are going to do the Meet and Greet and I said ok we are going to meet the people? But then we all had to sit at a long table and I’m thinking why are we sitting at a long table? Then I see this rope line and they are letting the fans in two at a time. They are meeting Uli, then Glenn Hughs then me and so on. Then I said out loud what are we like Santa Claus here? They looked at me and said what are you saying? I said this is ridiculous look the people are 15 feet away, why don’t we just walk over there? What are we doing it’s so stupid. You get some people that come into the line and they want to talk a bit longer but then you got some roadie rush them away fast, so they can get the next guy in. I don’t know its just too weird. We should have just walked into that crowd like a cocktail party, shake hands and have a conversation but no one wants to do that. It shouldn’t be like that.”
