Italian thrash-metal legends EXTREMA will join MAX & IGGOR CAVALERA on their one-off Italian show in Milan, November 10th, for the “Max & Iggor Cavalera … Return to Roots” tour. The two former members and founders of SEPULTURA are celebrating the 20 years of “Roots” by playing it in full on their European tour! “Roots” is without doubts considered one of the greatest masterpieces of metal, so far.

EXTREMA released their new effort, “The Old School EP”, on May 27 via Punishment 18 Records. The EP features five tracks originally written during the band’s heyday – primarily unheard as finished recordings until now.

The Old School EP embodies the spirit, immediacy and brutality of the years in which its tracks were originally written, accented by fresh, pummelling production. Recorded last year at Fear Studios in Alfonsine (Ravenna, Italy) with The Seed of Foolishness producer Gabry Ravaglia, these tracks do not just prompt the “old school” cliché – they are the real deal – recorded in classic brutal fashion with only minimal writing tweaks.

All five tracks were originally written in 1987, shortly after the release of EXTREMA‘s We Fuckin ‘ Care EP. Only one of these songs saw the light on an album – “Life” was originally released in 1993 on the band’s first full-length album Tension at the Seams. The track has been re-recorded for The Old School EP in addition to tracks the band is known for performing live-only or releasing as raw demos on rare tapes, including “Child Abuse”, the instrumental “M.A.S.S.A.C.R.O”, “Tribal Scream” and “Carcasses”. The idea came to guitarist Tommy Massara while tidying EXTREMA‘s audio archives. He began listening to a tape on which there were no notes or text records of any kind.

In addition to those tracks, “The Old School EP” is featuring two bonus tracks, including live versions of “Life” and Motörhead‘s “Ace of Spades”, both recorded in Rome, Italy.

Italian thrash-metal legends EXTREMA released their new offering, “The Old School EP”, yesterday Friday, May 27 via Punishment 18 Records. The EP features five tracks originally written during the band’s heyday – primarily unheard as finished recordings until now. The Old School EP is available for pre-order now via CD, limited edition vinyl (only 250 copies available) and iTunes digital versions.

“”Child Abuse” is another track from our past production that never ended on an album, there is a really old version on our demo tape “Rehearsal 1989? that I found, the same as all of the tracks on this EP. We wanted to finally record all of them for our official discography. I’ve always been pissed that we never recorded them before because even today, these songs are timeless – they don’t sound old. This song has a strong lyric, the title says everything,” states guitarist Tommy Massara.

Recently, EXTREMA released their new music video for the refreshed track “Carcasses”, featuring Destrage‘s Ralph Salati. The “Carcasses” video is filmed, directed and edited by Daniele Farina with additional filming from Jimmy Rey, Loris Marinoni and Nicole Alagna. Watch it here:

The Old School EP marks the band’s first recording session with new drummer Francesco La Rosa, who recently replaced Paul Crimi on drums. It will be clear why his nickname is “Frullo”, which means “whipper” in English!

May 27th 2016 will be unleashed the band’s “The Old School EP” via Punishment 18 Records, featuring  two powerful guests: Ralph Salati (Destrage) and Bob Capka (ex-Vicious Rumours). A promo video regarding the song ‘Carcasses’ is scheduled to be released online in May.

The EP consists of 5 tracks recorded for the occasion , while keeping completely the spirit, immediacy and brutality of the years in which they were written, moreover there will be also two live bonus tracks.

The Band will perform the showcase presentation of the EP on May 21st at the Legend Club in Milan “Old School”.

Is there a more used and abused word in metal music?

Well, for once, thanks to someone who lived “the old days” and at the time was already sending out BPM counters , the term “Old School” is not used inappropriately. EXTREMA have in fact entered the “Fear Studio’s” in Alfonsine (Ravenna) last April 3rd to record a mini-album made of 5 songs, tentatively titled “The Real Old School EP” .

Why this specific title? Because all five songs were written originally in 1987 , shortly after the release of the legendary EP ” We Fuckin ‘ Care” and only one of these songs “saw the light” in an album , “Life” in 1993 ,on the the first full-length album ” Tension at the Seams . ”

On the new EP the song “Life” will be re-recorded in its original version and will be accompanied by other live classics such as ” Child Abuse ” and the instrumental ” M.A.S.S.A.C.R.O ” (both present on the band’s tape “Rehearsal ’89 ) , ” Tribal Scream “(from ” Promo Tape ’90) and ” Carcasses ” , never recorded before but played live dozens of times.

All songs has been recorded , except for some small re-arrangements, in the brutal version of 1987.

The idea came to guitarist Tommy Massara, while tiding Extrema’s audio archives and while Tommy began listening to a tape on which there were no notes nor text records of any kind.

” These very rough recordings of a handful of songs that were planned to end on the album before the album ‘ Tension … ‘ and that instead never materialized, “magically” popped out”.

” I was amazed by the speed at which we played even then and I thought it would be fun for us and for the fans to record them nearly 30 years later to hear what we did, when many of those who follow us now, were not even born . It is possible , however, that their parents could have participated in the ‘ collective massacres ‘ at the time … if this is not old school what is it then! “

This will also be the first recording session with the band , for our new band member Francesco La Rosa , who recently replaced Paul Crimi on drums. It will be clear why his nickname is ” Frullo ” Whipper in English!

The last studio album of the band “The Seed of Foolishness ” was released last May 2013 and has received raving reviews from all around the world.
