PARADISE LOST: Reveal Title And Details Of New Album

At this moment, iconic UK metallers, PARADISE LOST, are putting the final touches to their upcoming album, recorded at Orgone Studios in the misty countryside of Woburn, England. Together with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano, they have forged the follow-up to their highly acclaimed release “The Plague Within” (2015), which brought them a step closer to their death metal roots. This time, PARADISE LOST will haunt their fans with a heavy, doom-ridden monster, as lead guitarist and songwriter Greg Mackintosh reveals:

“The new album will be slower, sludgier and more doom filled than ever before. Eight riff laden monster tracks of sheer Northern misery.”

This 15th studio album will see the light of day at the end of summer via Nuclear Blast and is entitled “Medusa”. As some might know, Medusa is considered a hideous Gorgon in Greek mythology – a winged female monster with living venomous snakes in place of hair and everyone who dares taking a look at her will immediately turn to stone!

Returning with opus number fourteen “The Plague Within”, released in June via Century Media, PARADISE LOST once again refined the chemical equation to their sonic alchemy with the kind of creative invincibility few can afford. It’s a collection of songs that will surprise even the most seasoned of fans in its ambition: a monochrome miasma of morbidly uplifting anthems and heart-aching melancholia.

Now on the 17th August the band will play a very special, once in a life-time show, performing ‘The Plague Within’ in its entirety at The Forum, in Bielefeld, Germany on 17th August. The band have stated:

“Extra tickets have been released for our special ‘The Plague Within’ show! Buy now for this once in a lifetime opportunity to hear the album played in its entirety. Returning with opus number fourteen, The Plague Within (due to be released June 1st in Europe, June 2nd in North America via Century Media Records), PARADISE LOST is once again refining the chemical equation to their sonic alchemy with the kind of creative invincibility few can afford. It’s a collection of songs that will surprise even the most seasoned of fans in its ambition: a monochrome miasma of morbidly uplifting anthems and heart-aching melancholia.

In anticipation of this release, the band has now teamed up with Decibel Magazine.com for the premiere of the new video for “Beneath Broken Earth”, which can be seen at this location.

PARADISE LOST’s Greg Mackintosh (lead guitar) comments: “I fucking hate metal band performance videos, so when I got told that we needed to do one I was obviously annoyed but then came the idea to do a performance video of utter misery. The slowest song we have ever recorded. ‘Beneath Broken Earth’ is an utterly old school PARADISE LOST doom/death song, and doing a performance video with our miserable, old faces barely moving in a crappy, old basement was too much to resist. The director Ash has done a great job of capturing the somber mood and has managed to make a performance video we can actually be proud of.”

Returning with opus number fourteen “The Plague Within” (released June 1st, 2015), PARADISE LOST are once again refining the chemical equation to their sonic alchemy with the kind of creative invincibility few can afford. It’s a collection of songs that will surprise even the most seasoned of fans in its ambition: a monochrome miasma of morbidly uplifting anthems and heart-aching melancholia. Theirs is a pain born of the human condition itself as our fragile minds struggle to cope in a world overrun by demons…

Produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Ulver, Cathedral) at London’s Orgone Studios, the frostbitten riffs thunder beneath the bittersweet euphoria of Nick’s vocals, drifting between rich melodic soars and icy snarls. It’s an organic body of work that confronts the trials and tribulations of struggling alone in darkness, but also one that treads incredibly exciting and genuinely ‘new’ sonic ground in the process.

The cover artwork was created by the polish artist, illustrator and architect Zbigniew M. Bielak, best known in the musical realm for his record cover illustrations, which among others include meticulously handcrafted artworks of Watain, Ghost or Entombed A.D. albums. Zbigniew comments:

“Since their late 80’s inception, through somber abrasiveness of their debut and harrowing tristesse of groundbreaking ‘Gothic’, the unparallelled icons of gloom, Paradise Lost grew deep into all things murky and dreadful in modern music. Let alone Duncan Fergado’s artwork for their ‘Lost Paradise’ debut remains one of my fave covers, so having heard that with ‘Plague Within’ the band harks back to days of old, was – to say the least – a thrilling incentive to pick up the commission.

It was also a rare joy to see how preliminarily calm and reflective Arcimboldian artwork, kept becoming ever darker and more sinister past each of Nick’s and Greg’s scrutinies, to finally become what one can see on the actual cover. A portrait of hopeless decrepitude of mental illness – which is what ‘Plague Within’ deals with thematically – where the tormented Sisyphus struggles to push his burden back up the slippery walls of a long frozen illusion.”
