Canadian progressive sci-fi metal innovators VOIVOD continue to promote their newest and much acclaimed studio effort “The Wake”, which was released via Century Media Records worldwide last September and ranked high in various year-end polls by international media outlets.

In regards to the North American tour, VOIVOD drummer Michel “Away“ Langevin commented as follows: “We are very proud to be part of the YOB-Voivod-Amenra North American tour in March and April 2019. It has been a couple of years since we toured USA, aside from a festival here and there. In the meantime, we are getting ready for the upcoming Japanese and Australian shows in January. See you all in 2019!“

Next to a standard jewelcase CD edition and a Digital Album release, “The Wake“ is also available as limited 2CD Mediabook edition with a bonus disc of 11 tracks featuring the 5 songs off 2016’s “Post Society” EP as well 6 live tracks from 2018’s 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise, alternate artwork, an expanded booklet of 32 pages and a set of 3 stickers. VOIVOD’s “The Wake” is the successor to 2013’s “Target Earth” album as well as the 2016 mini-album “Post Society”. VOIVOD’s Denis “Snake” Bélanger checked in with the following comment about the clip: “What I really like about VOIVOD fans is that they are all able to make their own interpretation of the lyrics or the story of our songs. This video is such a good portrait of “Iconspiracy” and the artist pinpoints awesome visuals in regards to the meaning and representation of the story itself. Thanks to Costin, an amazing artist who did really great work for us in the past and still blows my mind every time again. Question everything! Iconspiracy!!!”

And video directorCostin Chioreanu added: “The most difficult task of an illustrator is to work for his all-time favourite bands. Then he becomes extremely exigent with what he creates and wants to get beyond any known limit. Obviously, this type of experiences are priceless by all means at the same time, because everything goes utterly intense and he feels like a starship exploring the Universe at full warp speed and experiencing several amazing unseen worlds per second. “The Wake” is the album of the year 2018 for me and the video I literally built from scratch for “Iconspiracy” follows the song lyrics and the spaces between them. At the same time, both the story and video fight to remain alive while trying to keep up with the infernal dynamics of the song, which represent another musical proof of the VOIVOD’s genius. Other than that, this video speaks by itself, just like the music, therefore who is prepared to be awaken, will be!”

Canadian progressive sci-fi metal innovators VOIVOD are soon to release their new studio album “The Wake” on September 21^st, 2018 for via Century Media Records worldwide.

Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently interviewed VOIVOD‘s drummer Michel (Away) Langevin at Heavy Montreal on July 29 2018. Away spoke about the bands new upcoing album The Wake, the origins of their band nicknames, Jason Newsted era of the band and working with famed Rush producer Terry Brown on their 1991 album Angel Rat.

When asked about the new upcoming album called THE WAKE
“The Wake is more of a prog metal album similar to Phobas and Dimension Hatross with a long story (concept album) all the way through, it’s very intricate and it’s coming out on September 21 2018. The album’s musical style has also the thrash metal elements and the punk side as well. It’s different from the last LP Target Earth 2013, however it is similar to the E.P. Post Society that we released two years ago. It’s sort of a continuation to Post Society with the new band line up, if anything it’s sort of like a new direction sort of fusion metal in a way. There is a very good chemistry right now with the band and the main writer is guitarist Chewy Daniel Mongrain .”

When asked what guitarist Chewy Daniel Mongrain who replaced Piggy brings to the band
“I can still hear the Voivod signature with Piggy’s chords in Chewy’s style but Piggy was a bit more old school like Motorhead, Chewy is more new school, he has more of a new edge but what I really like is he brings more of a jazzy style cause it makes me play differently, he brings a lot to the new style of Voivod.”

When asked about their nicknames
“Chewy is a big fan of Star Wars that is how he got his name. Rocky’s real name is Dominique Laroche and his last name translates to The Rock and his musical name in the music scene in Quebec is ROCK so we just said you have to be Rocky. Snake came from when we started the band he was in improv theater and he had to imitate a worm and he crawled like a snake so we called him Snake. As for my name Away it is mainly because of my drawings but it is also when I was studying science at the university and I had had rehearsals, I could not cope with doing both so I was Away from rehearsals.”

When asked about acquiring the rights to their biggest hit Astronomy Domine off their breakout album Nothingface
“Through MCA we were able to reach out to David Gilmore and he had to approved our version of the song and he did and it got on heavy rotation on MTV.”

When asked about when Jason Newsted time in the band (2002-2008)
“Jason first came to see us in San Francisco in the 80’s and we kept in touch. Then between 1989-and 1999 we went to his studio many times in San Francisco and we did some projects together and when we reformed with Snake in 2001 we asked Jason to play on our album one song but he loved it so much he played on the whole album (the self titled album) and joined the band. When Piggy passed away 2005 he had such a musical connection to Piggy he just could not go on. ”

VOIVOD Announce New Album “The Wake” And European Tour

Canadian progressive sci-fi metal innovators VOIVOD are not only celebrating their 35^th band-anniversary, but have also just wrapped up studio-work for their upcoming new studio album entitled “The Wake”. Expected for a late September worldwide release via Century Media Records, “The Wake” is the highly anticipated successor to 2013’s “Target Earth” album and the 2016 mini-album “Post Society”.

VOIVOD drummer Michel “Away” Langevin checked in with the following comment:

“We are thrilled to let you know that our new album, “The Wake”, is completed! The music is like a futuristic prog thrash metal trek with many twists and turns, and the story involves the usual Voivodian topics: disasters, chaos, conflicts, strange plots and alternate consciousness. We are excited with the result and can’t wait to get the material out to you this fall!

Also, try to catch us when we tour Europe in September and October. It will be a great opportunity for the band to test some songs from our upcoming album.”
