For the last two years, the thousands of Swedish metal fans who would gather once a year in Tyrolen to celebrate their heroes on stage at the annual Muskelrock festival have fallen silent. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the venue was forced to cancel their event in both 2020 and 2021.
It was in this dark time when the mighty metal legend THOR released his ode to the festival “This Is Musclerock” as the lead-off track on his album Alliance. The track featured a stellar, unmistakable vocal from fellow metal behemoth John Gallagher of the groundbreaking metal act Raven. Together, these twin suns of classic metal united with one voice to call for a revival of the Muskelrock festival as well as the Musclerock genre that THOR himself helped to pioneer. And now the two appear in a brand new video for the track, which is being premiered by the venerated Fistful Of Metal magazine.
THOR shares these thoughts, “Some call me The King of Musclerock. As the proponent of the genre Musclerock, a precursor to Heavy Metal, I am happy that Cleopatra Records in coordination with Fistful of Metal are releasing the new video for the song ‘We Need Musclerock.’ I am excited to be joined by the legendary John Gallagher of Raven on this one. This anthem is a tribute to the famous Muskelrock Festival held each year in the mountains of Tyrolen in Alvesta, Sweden. I was happy to help launch the Muskelrock festival with promoter Jacob Hector in 2009. Now it has become one of the greatest Metal festivals in the Universe. Thousands of Muscular Metal fans will gather from all over the world to herald the name of THOR and be entertained by feats of strength and a large roster of top bands. Thanks to Ted Jedlicki for directing/editing this exciting video and John Leibel for writing a great tune. So I say to all of you….SKAAL!”

Today the long-awaited 39th studio album from classic metal superhero THOR is officially released worldwide! The album, Alliance, includes special guest appearances from Soilwork vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid, W.A.S.P.’s Chris Holmes, Raven vocalist John Gallagher, Danko Jones, Anthrax’s Neil Turbin, Ross “The Boss” Friedman and many more. It features stunning artwork from Timo Wuerz and is available on both digital as well as on CD in a digipak and limited-edition silver vinyl in a gatefold jacket! To celebrate this monumental release, THOR shares a brand-new video, the official Official Music Video for the short film “LIBERATOR” starring Lou Ferrigno, Peta Wilson and Ed Asner.
About the entire project, THOR proclaims, “After 50 years of living and breathing Metal and Rock n Roll, I can truly say that this is the BEST album of my career. There have been a myriad of songs written and albums recorded in my 50 year career. If hang up the helmet, cape and hammer after this one, call it a day, I can truly feel proud of this record. I feel that this could be the greatest work of my life. It certainly was a union of power and an honor to work with such talented artists from around the world. For which I shall be eternally grateful.”
As a founding member of Swedish metal warriors Soilwork, Björn “Speed” Strid has been a leading figure in the metal world since 1995. Metal deity, THOR, on the other hand, has existed for all eternity, has no beginning nor end, is worshipped by legions of classic metal fans around the world and is about to release a brand-new studio album, his 39th such release, this one entitled Alliance, on July 16! Today, these two mighty giants have united their voices on the epic second single from Alliance, a searing song of sonic devastation, “Niflhel (Realm Of The Dead)” whose lyrics are filled with references to Norse mythology and the after-life. Trading verses as well as harmonizing with each other on the choruses, these two warriors let the vocal sparks fly as a propulsive track of crunchy distorted guitars and pounding drums does its best to contain the metal fury unleashed therein.
Alliance also includes special guest appearances from W.A.S.P.’s Chris Holmes, Raven vocalist John Gallagher, Danko Jones, Anthrax’s Neil Turbin, Ross “The Boss” Friedman and many more. It features stunning artwork from Timo Wuerz and will be available July 16 on both digital as well as on CD in a digipak and limited-edition silver vinyl in a gatefold jacket! Watch for Thor to launch several shows and festivities in this year as he celebrates this his 39th studio album and an astounding 50 years of metal mayhem as well as co-starring in a feature-length action movie “Pact Of Vengeance,” which will feature music from the new album!
In a recent conversation on The Metal Voice with Canada’s Metal legend Thor, former W.A.S.P. guitarist Chris Holmes also joined the interview and spoke about his guest solo on Thor’s first new single ‘The Ultimate Alliance’ off of Thor’s upcoming album ‘Alliance’ via Cleopatra. In the interview Chris Holmes also gave The Metal Voice an update on his upcoming new album.
When asked about the timeline of his new studio album “I just finished up the last guitar solo yesterday. I’m sending it to the guy that is mixing it and then he can put it on and start mixing all the rest of the songs. Then he will send it to me and I ok it. It will probably be released in three months. Probably done in a few weeks but it takes time to do the other stuff. It would have been done a long time ago if the Covid hadn’t hit it has just been postponed. It will be self released, it will be easier to sell on Bandcamp and at my shows. “
When asked about the songs “All the songs on there are about what I have done in my life experiences and stuff like that. In regards to the songs there is one ballad called ‘In God’s Hands’ and the rest of the stuff is heavier.”
Thor ‘Alliance’ available on digital, CD & Vinyl July 16! Watch first single below with guests Chris Holmes and Ross The Boss.
