Highly acclaimed metal vocalist Tony Harnell, the voice of Norwegian metal band TNT, will be Inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame on-stage at the M3 Festival, on May 7, 2022, in Columbia, MD.
Tony Harnell rooted his legacy in Hard Rock and Heavy Metal as the vocalist for TNT. His vocals can be found on fan favorites such as “Seven Seas,” “Everyone’s a Star,” and “10,000 Lovers (In One)“, with the 2 later songs having been in rotation on MTV. He has also fronted the bands Westworld, and Starbreaker, along with his own solo projects “The Mercury Train,” and “The Wildflowers featuring Bumblefoot.” Harnell was also featured in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” video game series for SEGA.
“It’s is no surprise that fans and the Nominating Committee are Inducting one of the greatest Hard Rock and Metal Vocalists of our time, Tony Harnell, into the 2022 Metal Hall of Fame,” says Metal Hall of Fame President/CEO Pat Gesualdo.
“I’m honored and humbled to be Inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame, and to even be thought of alongside so many of the Hall’s great artists,” Says Tony Harnell. “And thank you to the Metal Hall of Fame for the amazing charity work that you do.”
American Hard Rockers SKID ROW have issued the following, on the band’s Official Facebook Page:
After 14 years of touring and 4 releases, SKID ROW has released singer Johnny Solinger.
Founding member Snake Sabo said, “We had a lot of great times together and created a lot of great music. We wish him nothing but the best.”
“Sometimes things just end. People go in different directions and grow apart and you have to make a decision. He will always be our brother” adds co-founder Rachel Bolan.

The vacancy for a new front man has been filled by powerhouse vocalist Tony Harnell. This news comes hot of the heels of his departure from Norway based band, TNT. “Tony’s experience, power and undeniable range made our decision an easy one” commented guitarist Scotti Hill. Drummer Rob Hammersmith added, “I believe this will be a great year for SKID ROW. I’m looking forward for things to come.”
When asked about joining forces with SKID ROW Harnell said, “I’m so excited and honored to be a part of such a great band with an amazing legacy and legions of faithful fans! The guys and I have known each other for many years and this is such a natural fit. I look forward to getting out there and playing live together and being a part of making new music and creating our future together. It’s time to rock!”
The band will head into the studio to record the third chapter of the United World Rebellion trilogy this summer. They will also hit the road for another world tour in support.
Norwegian/American hard rockers TNT played their first official reunion show with singer Tony Harnell this past Friday, January 17 at Gregers Live in Hamar, Norway. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.
Harnell confirmed his reunion with TNT in October 2013, explaining in a statement: “After much discussion and lots of soul searching, I’m happy to officially announce that I’ll be back behind the microphone with TNT.
“I’m very proud of all we accomplished over the years and proud to have written and recorded all those great songs with my brother from another mother, Ronni Le Tekrø.
“Sometimes it’s just time to give the fans what they’re asking for.
“2014 is the 25th anniversary of the successful ‘Intuition’ album and we thought it would be a good time to get out and relaunch this little machine for you guys!
“Can’t wait to see you all on tour!”
In August 2013, TNT parted ways with its frontman of the past seven years, British vocalist Tony Mills (ex-SHY). He explained in a statement: “Maybe we did 500 shows or something like that, but not many out of Norway.
“It has been the most prolific live period in my career, and when I felt the stagnancy and the lack of desire to grow and develop any further, I knew my time was done with the band.
“I don’t think it’s sensible to expect new art from the band after thirty years, just a lot of re-living the past and reconstructions of old albums and performances.
“None of us are getting any younger, but I have a great desire to not stop creativity in my life. I hate wasting days and singing songs from the past to satisfy old fans.
“Nostalgia wasn’t doing it for me.
“We were never close as friends or anything like that, so there is no great loss, and I have no doubt they will reform the original lineup and just do the whole thing all over again. I wish them good luck on that. I have other releases to come that excite me much more than that.”
Harnell rejoined TNT on stage for their 30th-anniversary concert on June 2, 2012 at the Clarion Hotel in Trondheim, Norway. The group performed a special setlist while accompanied by the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra (Trondheim Symfoniorkester). Also making a special appearance with the band was TNT‘s original singer, Dag Ingebrigtsen.
After leaving TNT in 2006, Harnell was replaced by Mills, who has since appeared on three studio albums from the band: 2007’s “The New Territory”, 2008’s“Atlantis” and 2010’s “A Farewell To Arms”.
Harnell‘s final release as a member of TNT was the “Live in Madrid” DVD, which came out in September 2006 via MTM Music. The set, which was filmed on April 1, 2006 in Madrid, Spain, was accompanied by an 82-minute audio CD plus booklet liner notes from Harnell about his work with the group as well as an additional tour documentary by Darren Paltrowitz.

In the clip below, ex-TNT vocalist Tony Harnell discusses his battle with, and surviving, thyroid cancer:
Harnell is only one among many: thyroid cancer diagnoses have more than doubled since 1990, one of the few cancers that has increased in incidence rates in recent years. The good news is that thyroid cancer is an extremely treatable disease when caught in its early stages—which is why screenings and self “neck-checks” are vitally important. Also key to a positive outcome is having an expert thyroid surgeon perform the procedure.
Harnell underwent surgery to remove the tumors and affected lymph nodes, radioactive iodine treatment to destroy any remaining thyroid tissue, and was placed on thyroid hormone replacement medication to keep his body’s metabolism balanced. Because of his occupation and the extensive surgery performed, he also elected to undergo physical therapy to rehabilitate his vocal cords and other muscles affected by the surgery. Harnell made it through his experience with his voice intact and is back to hitting all the high notes in his career.
Fan-filmed video footage of former TNT singer Tony Harnell performing the BOSTON classic “More Than A Feeling” with the help of STRYPER/ex-BOSTON frontman Michael Sweet on May 24 at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City can be seen below.
Harnell opened for STRYPER at the concert and joined the headliners on stage during their set to perform the JUDAS PRIEST classic “Breaking The Law”. Fan-filmed video footage of that performance below is also available.
As previously reported, Harnell will guest on the new solo album from Michael Sweet, due later this year on Big3 Records. Harnell will be a special guest vocalist on the song “Taking On The World Tonight”.
Commented Sweet: “I think Tony is truly one of the most underrated singers of all time. He’s always been one of my favorites and is an incredibly nice, humble guy to boot. I’ve always wanted to work with Tony and I knew this would be the perfect song and opportunity to do so. ‘Taking On The World Tonight’ is very heavy with a combination of old-school riffs and solos yet it’s got a very modern, relevant sound as well. It’s the best of both worlds! You won’t be disappointed.”
