AMORPHIS: Re-Sign To Nuclear Blast, Announce Special 360° Concert Experience

Melancholic progressive metallers AMORPHIS recently finished their successful 18-concert “Under The Red Cloud” summer tour where they played arena shows with Danish rockers VOLBEAT amongst others. But before the Finns close the touring cycle in support of their latest album, there’s great news from the band’s camp: AMORPHIS have signed another record deal with Nuclear Blast.

Guitarist Esa Holopainen commented:
“I’m really happy to announce that AMORPHIS got re-signed to Nuclear Blast! It’s nice to be working with such professional and familiar people. AMORPHIS has done a lot of touring for the past two years around the globe and now it’s time to head back to the studio. This means that the new album will be released next year! It has also been a really nice experience for all of us to play with Olli-Pekka again and for that reason we’re glad to have him participating in the making of the new record.”

Nuclear Blast CEO Markus Staiger added:

Finnish masters of melancholic progressive metal, AMORPHIS, recently played special shows (“An Evening With Friends” @ Juhlaviikot – Huvila) in Helsinki, where they have performed a very special setlist with guest musicians and friends. These shows will be part of the new tour edition which is scheduled to be released on Februar 24th via Nuclear Blast. The package includes the entire album “Under The Red Cloud” with two bonus songs as well as the live tracks in Helsinki.

Today, the band unveils the first video to one of these live tracks. The video shows the song ‘Her Alone’ feat. Anneke van Giersbergen, which is the last song of the bonus CD. You can watch the clip, here:

Anneke Van Giersbergen states: “I was honored and stoked that AMORPHIS asked me to perform with them at this special event. I have been listening to their latest album »Under The Red Cloud« non stop since it came out so you can imagine I said yes to the occasion wholeheartedly! Tomi is such an awesome singer and performer and I felt right at home singing with him. He and the band gave me full creative freedom to make their songs my own and do them justice with my vocal contribution.”

“‘Evening with friends’ was a very unique show that left warm feelings to all us who experienced it from and off the stage”, continues Esa. “We really wanted to have artists performing who’s music and talent touches us. So when Anneke was in Finland playing her previous acoustic show couple months earlier we asked from her if she’s interested to perform with us. At the end of the day it was a bit versus vice, I played couple songs with her at acoustic show in Helsinki that took place same weekend with AMORPHIS event. When you hear her voice you recognize immediately that it’s Anneke. There are not many such talented singers around so we were really privileged to have her on board. ‘Her Alone’ is a track from the »Silent Waters« album that is very dramatic and big song. When Tomi and Anneke shares the vocals it really made the song to another level.”

“We were honoured to take part in the Helsinki Festival in Huvila, so therefore we wanted to do something special for that particular night,” states guitarist Tomi Koivusaari. “The gig itself happened in a large tent in the very center of Helsinki on a late summer evening. The Huvila-tent has quite long history, so there was already some excitement in the air beforehand. We wanted to invite some guests to feature on that show – musicians we already had worked with during these years and musicians we have a huge respect for, so Sakari Kukko, Pekko Käppi and Anneke van Giersbergen joined us on that evening with friends. Originally Aleah Starbridge was supposed to join as well, as she sings on the »Under The Red Cloud«-album, but sadly she passed away before that. It was surely a night to remember!”

Amorphis Cover ArtFinnish metallers AMORPHIS have recently released a music video for the track ‘Death Of A King’, taken from the band’s newest masterpiece, “Under The Red Cloud“, which was released on 4 September 2015 via Nuclear Blast.

The record reached great chart results all around the world (f.e. Finland #2, Germany #10,…), entering the world charts on position #39.

 

The new album was produced by the renowned Jens Bogren (OPETH, SOILWORK, AMON AMARTH) and features artwork by the extraordinary Valnoir Mortasonge (LAIBACH, PARADISE LOST, WATAIN, BEHEMOTH). Once more, the lyrics were written by Pekka Kainulainen. The record also includes special guest appearances from Chrigel Glanzmann (ELUVEITIE, flutes), Martin Lopez (ex-OPETH, percussion) and Aleah Stanbridge (TREES OF ETERNITY, vocals).
