VARDIS Announce New Double Live Album “100 M.P.H.@100 Club”, Out November 26th

British NWoBHM legends VARDIS have announced a new double live album “100 M.P.H.@100 Club”, coming out on November 26th, via SPV/Steamhammer.

In the 1970s Vardis’ relentless touring of the working mens clubs of Northern England took them to support slots with Hawkwind, Slade, Motörhead and Saxon, emerging with a reputation for a unique heavy rock attack and high energy technical brilliance. On November 1st 1980 Vardis’ live debut LP 100 M.P.H. entered UK Album Charts at #52 and instantly became a foundational record of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The power trio’s fusion of fast punk rhythms, relentless heavy riffs and blistering blues rock solos echoes through Metallica’s 1983 Kill ‘Em All and Megadeth’s 1985 Killing Is My Business … and Business Is Good!, and became an old school Heavy Metal classic.

Four studio albums, three compilations and seven singles later, SPV/Steamhammer present to you the Vardis live experience on record for the first time since 1980: ‚100 M.P.H.@100 Club’. A double live album recorded on March 13th 2020, the 40th anniversary of 100 M.P.H., this blistering two hour set includes every track from an album that led the way for Thrash, performed up close and personal by Steve Zodiac (Guitar, Vocals), Joe Clancy (Drums) and Roly Bailey (Bass) in London’s legendary 100 Club.

NWoBHM veterans VARDIS have released a new lyric video for the song “Paranoia Strikes” taken from their comeback album “Red Eye”. Watch the video below.

Steve Zodiac says about the song: “Paranoia Strikes’ is about the animal instinct for self preservation amplified to the point of mania. It’s potential is within us all, but Emperors, Dictators and the like seem to be especially susceptible. In that sense paranoia is the flip side of egomania: an excess of power, wealth or drugs can bring both to the surface. My starting point was that animal trigger in humanity, so this track was written to be feral and frenzied, with savage riffs.”

The new album “Red Eye” was released on May 20th, 2016 via Steamhammer / SPV, as a digipak version (incl. 2 bonus tracks + poster), LP version in red vinyl and download (iTunes exclusive contains 2 bonus tracks).

WILDFIRE FESTIVAL 2016: Announce VARDIS, GORMATHON And More

Metal Shock Finland’s Utilifest Project partners at Scotland’s Wildfire Festival have announced more bands for the 2016 line up. The festival have released the following statement:
Brace yourselves for another sledgehammer announcement as Wildfire Festival 2016 is pulling out all the stops to bring the cream of rock and metal heritage to Scotland next year.

The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal faithful are spoilt with the confirmed addition of the 100mph blitzkrieg that is VARDIS. Sadly news reached us today about the untimely passing of bass player Terry Horbury, but the band are determined to continue, showcase the new album and leave the legacy that Terry so richly deserves, it will be a poignant show indeed.These NWOBHM luminaries join the already announced Spartan Warrior, Soldier and The Deep as the NWOBHM renaissance gains even more momentum.

Wildfire also welcomes UK modern metallic rockers Forever Never. A band who originally made tsunami sized waves in the 00’s, their recent reformation is sure to warrant a similar ground-shaking response when they hit Scotland in 2016!

The monstrously heavy Gormathon are set to vanquish Scottish shores when they bring their melodic death metal all the way from Sweden while the ‘heavy’ quota is maintained by Scotland’s own Excellent Cadaver, prog metal mavericks Turbyne and the ingenious barreling rhythms of Vice.

Hard rock lovers are well catered for with the cacophonous convoy of Massive Wagons rolling through Wiston Lodge, the ever-welcome Bad Touch, the majesterial melody of The King Lot, the whiskey-ravaged sleaze of Hell’s Addiction, the hard-edged classic rock of One Last Run, the atmospheric artistry of Crowsaw and the hypnotic dark riffs of Broken Chords adding further class to proceedings.

For those who love their thrash, Wildfire have bought back the coruscating carnage of Solitary while Wretched Soul – a band who’ve been laying waste to UK venues in 2015 with their terrifying brand of death/thrash – and the immense sound of melodic thrashers Immension make their first appearance.

Two undisputed highlights from 2015’s second stage return to Scotland in the formidable shape of up and coming traditional thrashers Die No More and proud purveyors of Southern rock boogie Thirteen Stars. Missed ’em last time? This is your chance to make amends!

Also confirmed are anthemic alt-rockers Banshee, riff-worshippers Nest Of Vipers, vanguards of vintage hard rock Orangefall and the pop/punk perfection of Altered Sky.

VARDIS: Terry Horbury Passes Away

Terry HorburyNWOBHM legends VARDIS have announced the sad news via their official Facebook page that bass player Terry Horbury has passed away after a short battle with cancer, aged 65. Read the full statement below:

“We are saddened to announce the tragic loss of Terry Horbury, who passed away peacefully yesterday in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, aged 65, after a short battle with cancer.

Many of his generation had their lives changed by music in the 1960s, but Terry’s first Cream gig in ’67 started him down a path which encompassed 50 years and 60 bands, including Dirty Tricks, Winner, McKitty, Ozzy Osbourne, Strategy, K.M.T., Paddy Goes To Holyhead, Outskirts of Infinity and Cream Revival Band among many others. He brought joy to so many people through his musical talent and lifelong dedication to his craft.

Family, friends and all who knew him will remember Terry as a man who was honest, loyal and a true gentleman – a genuine friend and friend of the Earth.

Rock on Terry… you will always be with us.

“Terry was a gifted musician and an exceptional man, whose talent for bass guitar ran deep throughout a 50 year musical career. His genuinely gentle, honest demeanour was obvious to all who met him, and his imaginative ideas and creative instinct were second to none. Terry had no ego and was always a man of truth, peace, kindness and integrity, with no other agenda but to care for nature, animals and play music.

It has been my privilege to work and perform with Terry many times over the years, recording 2 albums and 2 EPs with him. Terry was a truly great person – a gentleman, wit and artist who was musically at the top of his game this past year. His physical presence at his last public performance at Bush Hall less than five months ago was a sight to behold, making the speed with which he was taken from us all the more shocking.

Terry was without doubt the bravest man I have ever met and a true Rock Warrior.

He asked me to send you all this message:

SPV/Steamhammer is proud to sign one of the real and true veterans of the NWoBHM: VARDIS.

VARDIS were forged out of Glam, Punk, Heavy Metal, Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll in the crucible of 1970s northern England. They are a product of rock music across three generations: inspired by the great Rockers and electric bluesmen of the 50s and 60s, learning their trade rubbing shoulders with the young guns of Hard Rock and Punk in the 70s, and achieving prominence in the 80s as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The hard, ferocious attack of their sound directly influenced the development of thrash and speed metal across North America and Europe, cited by metal giants such as Metallica and Megadeth. Never losing sight of the melodic, boogie sensibilities of their earliest influences, the Vardis brand of Hard Rock retains a unique heavy groove, and has endured as truly original.

Hard Rock Hell, Europe’s leading residential rock festival, is pleased to announce BLUE OYSTER CULT, VARDIS and KROKUS areadded to its 8th cycle.

It’s with extreme pleasure, that HRH announce the arrival of New York Rockers, Blue Oyster Cult to lead the Saturday night at this year’s Hard Rock Hell. With 24 million album sales over a 47 year career, we can’t wait to welcome The Reaper to an already impressive line-up.

Joining BOC after a 7 year absence from the UK are Swiss multi-platinum selling rockers, KROKUS. With 14 million album sales and over 17 studio albums, it’s about time they get back onto the UK shores and join the rest of the bands at HRH 8.
