Wastelandis a continuation of DESTRENDS propensity to capture zeitgeist in a powerful yet accessible sonic tapestry.
Melbourne-based post punks DESTRENDS have a remarkable way of driving their gritty hooks straight through the core of their listeners. The second single off the band’s ‘Wasteland’ EP, ‘Missing People‘, does just that. Defined by the well-honed thickness of a three-piece guitar driven band, singer Matt Savage conjures an anecdote of subtle dissonance and hope in equal measure.
DESTRENDS are a Melbourne based post-punk collective who produce an angular, bass-driven sound and have built a reputation as a distinctly theatrical live outfit. With a sound influenced by early 80’s new wave, Destrends produce a confident mix of gloomy goth-laden punk with some real Aussie grit.
DESTRENDS 2017 EP ‘Lousy Lover’ solidified the group as a menace to behold, scoring support slots with Aussie favourites King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Spiderbait, & Hoodoo Gurus. With a new line-up in tow and a stack of new material on the way, Destrends returned late last-year with new single ‘Medication’. Medication; the band’s most recent offering, warned of a post-apocalyptic dystopia. The track speaks of our leaders apathy towards issues that affect the next generation, with a focus on climate change. In a political climate where the individual feels increasingly powerless, hope begins to fade as we surrender to an inevitable fate.
Subsequent single ‘Missing People‘, is a continuation of DESTRENDS‘ propensity to capture zeitgeist in a powerful yet accessible sonic tapestry.
With its fast growing reputation as a significant player in the Progressive Music field Karisma Records has today launched its own YouTube channel, which will be used to showcase its roster of bands. Launching the channel is “Wasteland” the new video from Karisma’s latest signing Prog Rockers RENDEZVOUS POINT. “Wasteland” itself was released yesterday as a single and the video can be seen on the new Karisma Records YouTube channel below.
Commenting on the new YouTube channel Karisma had this to say: “Right now we only have a handful of videos up, but we are aiming at having a wide-range of videos, both live and studio, where fans can come and get a taste of what Karisma Records and our bands have to offer. We are particularly keen to get fans involved in the channel too. We are always seeing fan-filmed live footage, or fan-made videos of their favourite tracks, some of which are very good, so if there is anyone out there who would like us to feature their videos of one of our bands on the Karisma Records channels, feel free to contact us through YouTube or our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/karismarecords “
The release of the “Wasteland” single is the first collaboration between RENDEZVOUS POINT and Karisma in the run-up to the band’s upcoming debut full-length album due to hit the streets in August. Hailing from the southern part of the country, RENDEZVOUS POINT boasts a lineup of musicians with considerable pedigrees. Vocals are handled by Geirmund Hansen, who many will recognise through his appearance on the Norwegian edition of The Voice, whilst the rest of the lineup consists of Petter Hallaråker on guitar (ICS VORTEX, SOLEFALD), Nicolay Tangen Svennæs on keyboard (EMILIE NICOLAS), Gunn-Hilde Erstad on bass and Baard Kolstad on drums. As well as being a member of bands such as LEPROUS, BORKNAGAR, ICS VORTEX, ABBATH, GOD SEED, drummer Kolstad won the Roland V-Drums World Championship in California in 2012.
