APOCALYPTICA Release Photo Book in Cooperation with PLEDGE MUSIC

APOCALYPTICA has issued the following:

More than 1,000 live shows in over 50 countries, countless stages, backstage areas and extraordinary encounters in all parts of the world. Since 1993, the Finnish Cello Rockers not only overcome borders musically, but also take their tour program around the globe relentlessly. Ville-Akseli Juurikkala, photographer and close friend, has been accompanying the band for some years now, recently capturing the most beautiful, exciting and unexpected moments of the “7th Symphony Tour”. These pictures are now released as a premium photo book.

Typically Apocalyptica: The Fins walk exceptional paths here as well, because the book will be distributed in cooperation with the British company Pledge Music. Founded in 2008 by musician Benji Rogers, Pledge Music offers artists a structure to make projects possible solely by the direct support of their fans, and at the same time helps raising money for charities. Via so-called “pledges”, the fans ‘promise’ to contribute to a certain project in exchange for an issue of the product as soon as it is finished. This way, the “pledgers” virtually become A&R Managers, record companies, or  – in this case – publishers.

A pioneering model which Apocalyptica look forward to very much. To quote the band:

“You as our fans have always been supportive and now we want to share the process of making this book with you. With every single “pledge”, you not only support the book’s release, but also help raising money for a good cause. In our case, you are supporting the Florence Home Foundation, an organization that takes care of projects for women and children in India’s poorest regions. In addition, you’ll receive an eBook with images, that didn’t make it to the printed version, and secure the chance of getting special merchandise, signed memorabilia and exclusive bonus material. And we dug deep to find interesting stuff for you …  Thanks a lot for your support, we hope you’ll like the book as much as we do!”

About Pledge Music
Pledge Music tries to keep its offering very simple – an artist sets a target to raise a certain amount of money for a desired project. He then approaches his fans to ask them for so-called “pledges” towards the total, in return for an issue of the specific project. The “pledges” are tiered, so that the fan, in this case for example, can contribute for just one copy of the printed book, slightly more for the book plus a signed fan item, or for a bundle including book, fan item and exclusive bonus track and so on. The artist determines himself how he wishes to motivate the “pledge amounts”. Unlike other fan-funded offerings, Pledge Music does not take any money until the “pledge target” has been met 100%. In addition, the artist retains all rights to his project. Pledge Music is not interested in owning any rights that belong to artists.

AMORPHIS Schedules Helsinki Signing Session

Finnish melancholic dark rock/metal icons AMORPHIS will take part in a signing session at Musamaailma in Helsinki, Finland this Friday, October 7 from 5:00 p.m. to to 6:00 p.m.

AMORPHIS‘ latest album, “The Beginning Of Times”, entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 16 — the best chart position ever scored by an AMORPHIS album in that country.

As previously reported, “The Beginning Of Times” landed at position No. 1 on the Finnish chart.

Released on May 27 via Nuclear Blast Records, “The Beginning Of Times” is described as “the most challenging AMORPHIS album so far in terms of both music and lyrics.” Its central character is the iconic hero of Finnish mythology, Väinämöinen, whose tale has been masterfully retold by lyricist Pekka Kainulainen.

“The Beginning Of Times” was produced by the band; vocals were recorded under the guidance of Marco Hietala (NIGHTWISH, TAROT) in his home studio in Kuopio. Like its predecessors, the album was mixed by Mikko Karmila. Its cover artwork shows Travis Smith‘s magnificent interpretation of the mythological birth of the world from a goldeneye’s egg.

AMORPHIS will be direct support for NIGHTWISH at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California on January 21, 2012. Also appearing on the bill will be DOMMIN. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster.

1349 To Release ‘Hellvetia Fire’ DVD

Norwegian black metallers 1349 will release their first-ever live DVD, “Hellvetia Fire – The Official 1349 Bootleg”, on October 24 via Candlelight Records. The disc was filmed at Bikini Test La chaux De Fonds in Switzerland in 2005 and features a special guest appearance by Tom G. Warrior (HELLHAMMER, CELTIC FROST, TRYPTIKON).

The critically acclaimed album “Demonoir” by 1349 will be reissued as a limited box set as part of the Indie Recordings Norwegian Collector’s Edition Series. It contains seven bonus tracks, including an unreleased track that did not appear on the expanded edition or the limited edition, 12-page booklet, poster, guitar pick, a patch and autographed photo card. The box is handnumbered and limited to 1000 copies worldwide.

For U.S. fans, the box set will be available only on FYE on November 25.

“Demonoir”, the fifth full-length album from 1349, was recorded at Studio Nyhagen, deep in the woods in Norway with Tom G. Warrior (HELLHAMMER, CELTIC FROST), who showed the greatest respect for the task and played a key role as motivator and catalyst. His technical role of the recording was that of a co-producer, but far more important was his presence and understanding of what a challenging project “Demonoir” was.

SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth Announces Details Of Solo Release and Debuts Tracks

NIKLAS KVARFORTH, founder and frontman of Swedish Extreme Metallers SHINING, has announced details of the upcoming release of a solo project that will chart fifteen years of his often controversial musical career.  “Fifteen Years of Absolute Darkness”, scheduled for release on Spinefarm Records on the 7th December this year, will feature 15 tracks from various bands on which Kvarforth has guested on vocals.  Included are tracks from bands such as GRAVDAL, BETHLEHEM, THE VISION BLEAK, DEN SAAKALDTE, as well as a previously unreleased alternative version of SHINING’s “Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel”.  The double CD will come with a lavishly illustrated booklet which contains KVARFORTH’s comments on all the tracks.  Track listing for “Fifteen Years of Absolute Darkness” as follows:

Kvarforth is currently working on the second SHINING music video which be filmed both during a live concert at the Club Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland, on the 5th October, and in a studio setting.  The video will be for the track “Tillsammans Är Vi Allt” from SHINING’s seventh full length album “VII / Född Förlorare”,  and the band will be joined on stage for the filming by  NORDMAN(Håkan Hemlin), one of Sweden’s top Pop stars, who originally guested on the track on the album.  Work is also underway on what will be the band’s eighth full-length album which will be produced by KING DIAMOND guitarist ANDY LA ROCQUE at his Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden.  More information about SHINING can be found on the band’s MySpace page at www.myspace.com/shininghalmstad

About the band:
AS YOU DROWN formed in Borås, Sweden in 2003. Inspired by the speed and relentless brutality of contemporary death metal and atmosphere and straightforward structure of the genres predecessors. Reflection, the debut album from AS YOU DROWN was recorded at AYD Studio in Borås; mixed and mastered by Christian Silver at Studio Mega in Varberg Sweden (THE CROWN, OLD MAN’S CHILD), and released worldwide via Metal Blade Records in July 2009. Reflection received critical acclaim from underground publications worldwide, with special attention given to the band’s ability to appeal to a broad extreme metal audience. In spring 2010, AS YOU DROWN hit the road with VADER on the Blitzkrieg 5 Europe and UK tour as the direct support artist in addition to appearing at several underground festivals in Europe during the summer of that same year.
