But what if I give them to an artist from a whole different genre, what would be there take on it? I love collaborations like this and all the artists we worked with have done an awesome job. It’s not meant to be taken dead serious and it’s not how IF’s gonna sound next. But I love it and I hope you’ll enjoy a twist to the formula.” Vocalist, Anders Fridén said.

U.D.O. vocalist Udo Dirkschneider and bassist Fitty Wienhold took part in a press conference earlier today (Wednesday, November 16) at Vitosha Park Hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria. Video footage of the question-and-answer session can now be seen in two parts below (courtesy of Metal Hangar 18).
When asked if he has heard “Blood Of The Nations”, the 2010 comeback album from ACCEPT with the band’s new vocalist, Mark Tornillo, and what his thoughts are on the group’s reunion without him, Udo said, “What can I say? It’s not a bad album. They were also asking me to do the reunion. I didn’t say ‘No,’ but I made some points, you know, if I do this, there were some points to make clear. But then Wolf [Hoffman, ACCEPT guitarist] said ‘No,’ he doesn’t agree. Then I said, ‘OK, fuck you. And then do your own reunion. And so, what can I say?! I wish them good luck. And we will see what they do in the future. . . [It’s] interesting [because] they have to play all this old classic [ACCEPT] stuff [while] we can pick out the cherries of the old classic [ACCEPT] stuff [to play live with U.D.O.]. I think we are, in a way, in a better position.”
Tonight’s U.D.O. concert at Hristo Botev Hall in Sofia, Bulgaria will be professionally filmed for the band’s next official live DVD.
As previously reported, U.D.O. has been for confirmed for next year’s edition of the Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place August 2-4, 2012 in Wacken, Germany. The group states, “The show will be recorded for the forthcoming live DVD! Furthermore, there are more surprises currently in the works.”
“Rev-Raptor”, the latest album from U.D.O., was released on May 20 via AFM Records. The effort was recorded between June 2010 and February 2011 at Roxx studios (owned by U.D.O. guitarist and ex-ACCEPT drummer Stefan Kaufmann) in Pulheim, Germany. The CD was mastered by Manfred Melchior at MM Sound Digital studios in Steinhagen, Germany. The album’s cover artwork is once again a comic-like motif: but the “Dominator” character is this time “a lot more effectual and colorful,” according to a press release.
U.D.O. is:
Udo Dirkschneider – Lead Vocals Stefan Kaufmann – Guitar, Vocals Igor Gianola – Guitar Fitty Wienhold – Bass, Vocals Francesco Jovino – Drums
Frontiers Records has set a January 24, 2012 North American release date (four days earlier in Europe) for the long-awaited new MOLLO/MARTIN album, entitled “The Third Cage”.
Dario Mollo and Tony Martin first got together when the Italian guitar player/produced and composer needed the right singer after the put together a new set of songs in the late ’90s. The former BLACK SABBATH frontman’s involvement came about on a suggestion from producer Kit Woolven (UFO, THIN LIZZY) with whom Mollo had been working during his CROSSBONES years. Martin wrote lyrics and melodies for the amazing tracks that Dario had already assembled, and thus THE CAGE was born.
THE CAGE‘s first album, released independently in 1999, gained a great success among the hard rock fans and the critics and Dario started finally to make himself a reputation over the international markets. This debut was later followed by an equally acclaimed second album in 2002.
Mollo has been very busy since then, releasing one more album with the VOODOO HILL project with Glenn Hughes. He then toured Europe with Graham Bonnet and Don Airey. After Don became a permanent DEEP PURPLE member, Dario and Graham Bonnet formed ELEKTRIC ZOO, touring Europe again, performing songs from RAINBOW, ALCATRAZZ, VOODOO HILL and THE CAGE. In 2008 Dario released an album with the more alt-rock Italian band NOIZE MACHINE, before getting again to work on a new set of hard-rocking songs for a new record with Martin.
“As usual, we are 50/50 partners,” explains Mollo. “I write all the music and Tony then contributes with the melodies and lyrics. We also try together different structures of the tracks and we rearrange them to better fit the vocal parts. Then I go ahead and take care of the entire production of the album, tracking, mixing and mastering.”
The songwriting, the sound and the video production of this new project are absolutely stunning and show the great skills that Mollo has developed in the past few years. All hard rock lovers should simply not miss this record which bravely melts several influences in a cutting edge release. “There are much better songs, performances and production on this album, plus we will finally bring this project live out there: we have a lot of great songs to perform to our loyal fans, we look forward to meet them,” concludes Mollo. “The Third Cage” track listing:
