America’s only hard-rock and heavy-metal award show is back for 2012! The fourth annual Revolver Golden Gods award show presented by Epiphone will take place Wednesday, April 11 at Club Nokia in Downtown Los Angeles. For the first time ever, the event will be broadcast live in its entirety on Xbox LIVE, as well as on the Xbox and Revolver Facebook pages.
“Our exclusive collaboration with Revolver magazine on the Golden Gods event shows just how far Xbox LIVE has come as an entertainment destination,” said Ross Honey, GM of Xbox LIVE Entertainment & Advertising. “We’re excited to deliver this live original content to all Xbox LIVE members globally.”
Also on April 11, The Grammy Museum, next door to Club Nokia, will open its new exhibit “Golden Gods: The History Of Heavy Metal”. Mounted in coordination with Revolver, the exhibit will feature never-before-displayed artifacts including instruments, stage props, handwritten lyrics, clothing and costumes, alongside original album artwork, posters and live-performance and interview footage. The exhibit will also feature a variety of interactive displays. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Revolver to tell the story of metal,” states Grammy Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli, “and offer fans the opportunity to engage with their favorite artists in such a personal way.”
Hosting duties for the Golden Gods awards show will be handled by FOZZY frontman and WWE pro-wrestling legend Chris Jericho, who returns for the third consecutive year. The nominees in 11 different categories, plus the recipient of this year’s prestigious “Golden God Award,” were revealed on February 15 at a press conference held at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Host Chris Jericho was on hand, along with Alice Cooper, Munky (KORN), Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY), Vinnie Paul Abbott (PANTERA, HELLYEAH), James Michael (SIXX: A.M.), Vinny Appice (HEAVEN & HELL, KILL DEVIL HILL), BLACK VEIL BRIDES, Mike Portnoy (ADRENALINE MOB), John Moyer (DISTURBED, ADRENALINE MOB), Michael Starr (STEEL PANTHER), Wendy Dio (wife of Ronnie James Dio) and pro motocross rider Brian Deegan to announce the nominees.
A two-minute TV commercial for the fourth annual Revolver Golden Gods award show presented by Epiphone — featuring appearances by Cooper, Wylde, Vinnie Paul and Appice, among others — can be seen below.
Fans everywhere can cast their vote to decide who will take home the awards for “Best Guitarist”, “Best Drummer”, “Best Vocalist”, “Album of the Year”, “Best Live Band”, “Most Metal Athlete”, “Comeback of the Year”, “Riff Lord”, “Paul Gray Best Bassist”, “Best International Band” and “Most Dedicated Fans”. Voting starts today at GoldenGodsAwards.com and ends on April 1. The complete list of nominees in each category is listed below.
The Golden God Award, given to one special honoree a year who embodies the spirit of hard rock and metal, will go to KISS demon Gene Simmons, whose band will release their highly anticipated 20th studio album, “Monster”, this year. (Previous honorees include hard-rock and metal legends Alice Cooper, Rob Halford of JUDAS PRIEST and Dave Mustaine of MEGADETH.) Simmons commented, “It’s an honor and privilege to accept the Golden God Award. A God is only as powerful as the faithful who worship him. Signed GOD OF THUNDER.”
Adding to the celebration, The 2012 Revolver Golden Gods awards show will feature one-of-a-kind special performances and collaborations that honor both the past, present and future of heavy music. The night’s hard-rocking musical performances will include sets by MARILYN MANSON (in his first U.S. performance in nearly three years); iconic Grammy-winning guitarist Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and THE CONSPIRATORS; EVANESCENCE; SIXX: A.M. featuring Nikki Sixx of MÖTLEY CRÜE, James Michael, acclaimed rock producer and songwriter, and DJ Ashba of GUNS N’ ROSES (in their first performance in almost four years); and 2011 “Best New Band” Golden Gods Award winner BLACK VEIL BRIDES, who will perform their only U.S. show of 2012 so far. More performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
“Every year, the Revolver Golden Gods grows bigger and more badass. The 2012 edition is without question the most epic one yet, from the performers and presenters to the nominees and honorees,” states Revolver Editor in Chief Brandon Geist. “And this year, with the Grammy Museum launching its tie-in ‘Golden Gods: The History Of Heavy Metal’ exhibit, and Xbox LIVE broadcasting the show around the world as it goes down in its entirety, the event will truly encompass the full timeline of heavy music and span the globe. Epic, indeed.”
“Epiphone and I are thrilled to participate in the Golden Gods awards show and celebrate some of music’s best talents — including this year’s performers from our Epiphone/Gibson family Nikki Sixx and Slash,” said Jim Rosenberg, President of Epiphone. “We are excited to share this year’s event with Epiphone players and metal fans across the globe with the show’s inaugural live broadcast. Every year, the show gets better and better!”

Some things just go together…heavy metal and thunder…denim and leather …SAXON and Wacken.
They’ve been old friends for many years now, their harmony collecting an army of thousands upon thousands who view SAXON live as a pilgrimage to the heart of metal music. And when that pilgrimage takes you, repeatedly, to the largest heavy metal festival in the world, Wacken Open Air in Germany, the results will always be electric.
“When we first played Wacken, it was a small festival with a small stage in a small field, driven by nothing more than raw enthusiasm, which appealed very much to us,” says Biff Byford, SAXON‘s venerable frontman. “It started as fans putting on a festival for fans, and now it’s fair to say that it is to heavy metal what the Donington festival used to be. That was the iconic heavy metal festival of the ’80s, and Wacken is the iconic heavy metal festival of now.”
Now you can feel that electricity for yourselves thanks to “Saxon – Heavy Metal Thunder – Live – Eagles Over Wacken”, the no-fat-no-bullshit-100%-pure CD/DVD featuring DVD highlights from SAXON‘s Wacken shows in 2004, 2007 and 2009 comprising thirty songs, plus a live CD from Glasgow in 2011. Each set captures the Barnsley-bred British heavy metal legends delivering classic after classic, from “Denim & Leather” to “Metalhead” to “Heavy Metal Thunder” to “Princess Of The Night” to “Crusader” in front of 75,000-pluds loyal, ravenous fans, who have come to expect (and receive) the levels of performance SAXON have been delivering for 32 years.
“And when the eagle comes down at Wacken, when it opens up over the audience, it is always an electric moment for those there,” says Biff emphatically of the famous SAXON eagle, a ton or so of steel and lights, rescued from a storage space in the British home counties where it had lain dormant gathering rust. In many ways, the eagle’s rebirth and Wacken’s ascent are partners on the journey, as it was Wacken’s organizers who offered to restore the mighty metal bird so as it could become a live centerpiece of both Wacken and SAXON‘s history.
And when it comes to heavy metal, SAXON‘s history is, indeed, rich. Rightly seen as one of the premier vanguards of heavy metal alongside the likes of IRON MAIDEN, SAXON were a major influence behind platinum-coated stars such as METALLICA and MEGADETH. Formed as SON OF A BITCH in 1976 (and becoming SAXON in 1978) they enjoyed tremendous commercial success in the U.K. during the ’80s, with 8 U.K. top 40 albums, and have sold over 13 millions albums worldwide, while albums such as “Wheels Of Steel”, “Strong Arm Of The Law”, “Denim & Leather” and “The Power & The Glory” have become legendary staples of any self-respecting metal fan’s collection.
But it has always arguably been on stage where SAXON have excelled the most. There’s no hiding once you hit the boards, and whether playing to 20000 people in Buenos Aires or 2000 people in Bolton, Byford, Carter, Glockler, Quinn and Scarratt source the same high-voltage energy reserves and deliver the same high-octane, blood and sweat-soaked show that makes SAXON a perennial touring favorite.
“We’ve consistently tried to write, and perform songs which both us and our audience enjoy,” says Biff, “and we’ve worked very hard to maintain that link with our audience, because if you don’t have that connection it can be very dangerous. We need them, and we need to be ready to deliver for them at every show, that’s the challenge and it’s one we gratefully accept and enjoy. If the audience are prepared to get crazy, then it’s always going to be a strong show, and Wacken always delivers us a fantastic connection. You cannot fake that electricity, everyone wants that ‘charged’ atmosphere and it is absolutely priceless…”
“Heavy Metal Thunder – Live – Eagles Over Wacken” is available in a variety of formats, including the Golden Ticket D2C/Direct To Consumer Box.
Strictly limited, this exclusive package contains the “Best Of Wacken” DVD, plus the full and complete SAXON Wacken Open Air performances from 2004/2007/2009 each on a separate DVD, plus a SAXON flag.
The real surprise is that 10 Golden Tickets are randomly included in the box sets, which will allow the lucky winners to visit any SAXON concert in any city around the world (excluding festival appearances).
Silver Tickets giving access to special online content are for the remaining boxes so there are no losers – only winners.

According to the unofficial BLACK SABBATH web site Black-Sabbath.com, the band’s Bill Ward paid tribute to SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi on the February 25, 2011 edition of the drummer’s “Rock 50” monthly radio show, which airs between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. PST on WPMD, a college radio station at Cerritos College in California. Bill talked about Tony‘s recent 64th birthday and played several SABBATH songs, personally selected by Ward to showcase Tony‘s different playing styles. After the tracks were over, Bill reminisced a little about a few of the songs.

And finally a statement directly from the Luca Turilli’s RHAPSODY members:
“Hi to everybody. We all know that many of you were waiting for the news about our new singer and it is true that his name was supposed to be revealed right today.
But as the mix of the album already started and the result of his artistic performance on ASCENDING TO INFINITY is simply brilliant, then we decided to not present our singer by simply revealing his name.
Instead, with the next news of Tuesday, MARCH 27, we’ll present him in the best way possible, the one we know you surely prefer.”
