Neal Schon, Founder and legendary lead guitarist for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Band JOURNEY, has announced, with Strax Technologies Inc., the launch of a new augmented reality application, “StraxAR™“, that will combine entertainment, exclusive “sneak peek” distribution of new music and events, and present rewarding retail opportunities. Augmented Reality brings the digital world together with the physical world by “augmenting” digital content or a digital experience onto a physical object or image. In the case of “StraxAR™”, millions of Schon’s album covers, posters, and other imagery are being combined to form a network that will be able to showcase his legendary music, performances, and new material for fans around the world. “StraxAR™” also will enable Schon to change content at will, effectively “broadcasting” it across millions of target images continuously. For launch, Schon will be adding to the image library every “STOP” sign in America – the signs being one of the image targets.
“Last week we launched our commerce site, NealSchonMusic.com, and promised more to come – today we are fulfilling our promise by delivering an exciting app that gives the fans a whole new way to get closer to what we are doing,” said Schon, “the platform will allow us to very quickly release material worldwide and share it in this unique way, combining it with all kinds of rewarding experiences for our fans.”
“Neal has incredible insight into how people think and feel and a creative mind that never stops” said Eric Singleton, CTO of Strax Technologies, “during the development process it was invaluable to have his feedback as we brought the whole concept together to deliver an experience fans will want to have again and again.”
“The opportunity to film Neal Schon and Journey Through Time in the studio has been incredible, requiring a new production approach for AR, capturing the authenticity of the moment”, said Lee West, creative officer for Strax.
To use the application, one simply launches it on their device (iPhone or Android) and points it at the “target” image. In seconds the experience begins. There is an “Image Targets” button in the app that references which images are active (at the moment every major album cover that Neal Schon has played on, and any STOP sign in the country too).
“This approach to augmented reality delivers a powerful expression of music and entertainment in the real world the user is immersed in,” said Alan Mariotti, technologist and cybersecurity advisor for Strax Technologies, “its simplicity and ability to deliver multiple experiences quickly jumps over earlier boundaries.”
HAMMERFALL will release a new album titled “Dominion” on 16th August 2019 via Napalm Records. The band has unleashed “(We Make) Sweden Rock” – the first single off “Dominion” today. Listen to “(We Make) Sweden Rock” HERE and purchase/stream the new song digitally HERE.
JOACIM CANS describes the creation of “(We Make) Sweden Rock,” “This is a glorious tribute to the Swedish hard rock and metal movement with a lyrical theme using direct references to both other bands and songs. With catchy contagious riffs and enchanting (ear-worm) melodies this song will be an instant classic at future HammerFall shows. Without the Swedish rock and metal scene with bands like Heavy Load, At the Gates and Yngwie Malmsteen the world would be a pretty boring and dull place! This is our noble tribute to all the bands that inspired not only us to play metal, form bands and eventually crusading around the world in the name of Heavy Metal. All hail the sons of the northern light!“
“Dominion” is HAMMERFALL’s eleventh studio album, and second with Napalm Records. Today, Friday 3rd May, Napalm has launched a physical preorder for “Dominion” including CD, Vinyl, and a limited edition Deluxe Box Set consisting of a digipack, limited 7” light blue vinyl, limited cassette, cover art print, photo cards, patch and sticker. To view a variety of the DOMINION merchandise, at this location.
The band has also unveiled the album cover art and tracklisting for “Dominion”. The artwork was created by renowned visual artist Samwise Didier. View the cover art and track listing below.
“Dominion” tracklisting:

For DOMINION, HAMMERFALL re-teamed with James Michael to do vocals at Red Level Three studios, and Fredrik Nordström of Studio Fredman at Castle Black Studios for the instruments on the powerful 12 song collection. OSCAR DRONJAK states:
“‘Good is not good enough; it has to be great.’ This is the mantra we have applied to every aspect of making this album, from the song writing and rehearsals to the production and the performance of each member. The result is DOMINION, a powerful force of nature that cannot be stopped. Once you hear it, you will understand.”

The war rages on! Old school metal veterans MEMORIAM are set to unleash their third album, »Requiem For Mankind«, on June 21st, 2019 via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band present the first album trailer, in which Frank and Karl discuss recording Requiem For Mankind with Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, DIMMU BORGIR, AT THE GATES etc) at Parlour Studios. Check it out here:
The band recently released the first digital single “Shell Shock” in the form of a lyric video. Watch and listen here:
The band states: “A new Memoriam song, a new approach, and as with all our albums a new sound for us to use. “Shell Shock ” is the first track we recorded for the “Requiem For Mankind” album. It is a bit of a Death Metal headbanger of a track! Subject wise it deals with the effects of being on the frontline amongst all the noise and chaos of a horrific war situation from an individual standpoint, and also that the soldier does not die from an enemy bullet! Sound wise it needed to sound a bit epic, we think we have achieved this on “Shellshock” and have used this as the blueprint sound throughout the album.”
The tracklisting of »Requiem For Mankind« 01. Shell Shock 02. Undefeated 03. Never The Victim 04. Austerity Kills 05. In The Midst Of Desolation 06. Refuse To Be Led 07. The Veteran 08. Requiem For Mankind 09. Fixed Bayonets 10. Interment
The album’s impressive artwork was created again by Dan Seagrave (BENEDICTION, DISMEMBER, HYPOCRISY, SUFFOCATION,…).
The colossal songwriting and the first-class recordings have been immortalised through the sublime production work of Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, DIMMU BORGIR, AT THE GATES, AMORPHIS, etc.) at Parlour Studios, giving the record raw production values, whilst providing the perfect scenario to showcase the musicianship so beautifully displayed on the album.
Memoriam were also pleased to announce their debut London show last week – which will also be the release show for their upcoming studio album. The gig will be taking place at The Underworld, Camden on June 22nd this summer. Supports to be announced in due course.
On May 10th, ABNORMALITY will release their third full-length, Sociopathic Constructs, via Metal Blade Records. For a preview of Sociopathic Constructs, the new single, “Monarch Alpha”, can be heard here:
The previous singles – “Curb Stomp” and “A Catastrophic and Catalyzing Event” – can be viewed now at: metalblade.com/abnormality – where the album can also be pre-ordered.
The album was tracked primarily at The Brick HitHouse in Hyannis, Massachusetts with producers Peter Rutcho (Revocation, Ravage) and Shane Frisby (Becoming The Archetype, Bury Your Dead) with vocals produced by Zdenek Sikyr at Studio Hostivar (Cult of Fire, Master’s Hammer) in Prague. Having worked with Rutcho since 2010, it was a painless, professional process, the band also bringing in Chaney Crabb of Entheos to add a guest vocal to the devastating “Penance”. “‘Sociopathic Constructs‘ is the result of tons of hard work and shows the progress we have made as a band since ‘Mechanisms‘ (2016),” asserts Sundaramurthy. “We feel the time is now for such an album, the brutality perfectly reflects the darkness, violence, and harsh reality of our world.”
Sociopathic Constructs serves to further cement Abnormality‘s place at the cutting edge of savage ultra-technical death metal. With this release, the quintet have stepped up their game across the board, making for a record that is as violent, complex and thought provoking as any you will hear in 2019, and the band were not afraid to explore and mix things up. “I think this record we felt free enough to just go where we wanted to within a song,” states guitarist Jeremy Henry. “We had no qualms with switching styles and approaches from riff to riff. To have a whole section grinding away and then just switch gears, hit the brakes and drop a slow, old school Morbid Angel warship groove in there. We felt free to follow our instincts, and just let our influences shine through.”

Rock titans GOV’T MULE have announced the release of Bring On The Music – Live at The Capitol Theatre, a brand new live CD/DVD package out June 28th via Provogue /Mascot Label Group. Filmed at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, on April 27th and 28th, 2018, the 9-camera video shoot was directed by renowned music photographer and director Danny Clinch (Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Phish). The release features more than 2 hours of live music, a full-length concert film, interviews with the band, behind-the-scenes footage, photos shot by Danny Clinch over the years, and more.
Watch a video trailer for “Bring On The Music”, here:
This is the first time that Gov’t Mule’s updated stage set and production have been filmed, bringing the excitement and spectacle of a Gov’t Mule show directly into fans’ homes.
The release will be available in a variety of configurations: a 2 CD/2 DVD deluxe package (the CD and DVD feature entirely different track lists and includes bonus videos of “Soulshine” and “Traveling Tune”), two separate double-vinyl packages, digital, Blu-ray and a 2-CD package (featuring audio from the film).
The title, Bring On The Music, taken from Gov’t Mule’s song of the same name that touches upon the passing of time and appreciating life’s journey, is a nod to the band’s treasured relationship with their fans. The Capitol Theatre has been the backdrop of many unforgettable shows for the band and is one of Gov’t Mule’s favorite venues to play. Inviting longtime Mule photographer and friend Danny Clinch to direct the film was also something of a destined choice, as Clinch’s relationship with Haynes pre-dates the band’s formation. A wide-ranging song selection from Gov’t Mule’s acclaimed catalog is featured on the deluxe release. Highlights include “Life Before Insanity” (the title track from their 2000 studio album), “Mr. Man” (from their 2004 album Déjà Voodoo) and several songs from the band’s most recent studio album Revolution Come… Revolution Go.
The news of the live release comes alongside the announcement of Gov’t Mule’s US summer tour kicking off June 21stin Cincinnati, OH. Before that they travel across the pond for their UK/European run.
PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM WARREN HAYNES ABOUT BRING ON THE MUSIC: Twenty-five years…. By the time you see and hear the performances from these two shows, Gov’t Mule will have celebrated 25 years as a band — something we never could have imagined. It’s no easy task keeping a band together for 25 years. You don’t get to do that without having built, nurtured, depended on, tested, damaged, and rebuilt important relationships. In fact, with any band that’s stayed around that long, it’s all about relationships. When we made the decision to document where the band is currently (musically speaking), it immediately occurred to us that this would be, among other things, a celebration of a lot of those relationships — starting with the one between the four of us.
The title, Bring On The Music, is obviously taken from the song of the same name that deals not only with loss and the passing of time, but also with our relationship with our audience as well. The same applies to “Traveling Tune,” which opens and closes the main program of the film. Without our audience, there would be no chance or reason for us to be around 25 years later.
It was also obvious that we wanted to film and record at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, which is one of our favorite venues. Since its re-opening in 2012, myself and Gov’t Mule (together and separately) have played there many times and have had many magical shows there. To quote Jerry Garcia, “There’s only two theaters, man…. The Fillmore and the Capitol Theatre.”
Bringing in Danny Clinch to direct the film was a somewhat obvious choice as well. Having watched each other’s careers grow in ways that included twists and turns neither of us could have predicted, our relationship pre-dates the formation of Gov’t Mule. On his path toward becoming the “go to” photographer and film director for so many artists in the world of music, Danny would shoot the photos for many Gov’t Mule records throughout our career, going back to our debut album, for which he shot all the photos including the front and back covers. The band shot we chose for the back cover was the “Polaroid” of the first picture he ever took of the original trio, at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock. It was literally the very first photo taken in what turned out to be an 8-hour shoot. As I imagine most of you reading this know, the front cover of Gov’t Mule features the image of a mule draped in an American flag surrounded by trees. Most people I’ve talked with about it assume it was some sort of collage or illustration. No. Danny Clinch rented a mule and dragged it into Central Park in the heart of New York City to get that iconic shot. When we showed all the photos to Gregg Allman, he pointed at that one and said, “There’s your cover.”
Relationships…. It’s also important to point out the people that helped keep Gov’t Mule alive; people like Chuck Leavell, Oteil Burbridge, Dave Schools, Rob Barraco, Mike Gordon, Les Claypool, Jason Newsted, George Porter Jr., Greg Rzab, Audley Freed, Karl Denson and Andy Hess — all who came on the road with us at a time when we weren’t sure if we could continue. Andy, of course, went on to join the band from 2003 to 2008, bringing his own personality to the music.
Music…. The thing that’s helped us, individually and collectively, get through the inevitable hard times. The thing that’s driven every decision we’ve made as a band since our inception in 1994. The thing that’s ever-elusive but worth chasing for 25 years (and beyond), and that we’re all lucky to have as such a big part of our lives. The thing that’s connected all of us, everyone aforementioned, including the audience, and continues to grow like — and along with — the “circle” that’s been here since long before any of us and will be here long after we’re gone that will hopefully inspire and influence musicians, bands, and artists for the future the way we were all inspired and influenced by what came before. So, bring it on! Everything’s gonna be all right.
— Warren Haynes
