Summer 2015 sees the return of multi-award winning music band THE DARKNESS. A new track ‘Barbarian’ is currently manfully straddling the information super highway and is a palate cleanser for their fourth album “Last Of Our Kind”, produced by guitarist Dan Hawkins. Penned in Ireland, where the band play a small but perfectly formed tour next month, the record is bursting with the very finest rock-based music available to mankind, as one might expect.
Out 1st June 2015, “Last of Our Kind” will be released in partnership with Kobalt Label Services and is the first album to feature new drummer Emily Dolan Davies. She replaces original drummer Ed Graham who departed in mysterious circumstances. Having been drumming since 1999, Emily has played with everybody from the likes of Bono, Bryan Ferry and Tricky. Now she has shown herself to be equal to the ultimate music challenge.
Emily‘s ability is face-shatteringly evident in ‘Barbarian’ – described by vocalist Justin Hawkins as having “not one but two dramatic monologues, a guitar solo that has been declared ‘irresponsible’, a riff that weakens lady-knees and a chorus that makes grown men shit directly into their pants.” Justin goes on to point out that “The lyrics describe the Viking invasion of East Anglia which culminated in the decapitation of Edmund the Martyr. So yeah, classic Darkness.”
“Last Of Our Kind” is the meaty and impassioned follow-up to 2012’s “Hot Cakes” which saw the band reunited having enjoyed a well-publicized and well-deserved hiatus. As distinguished guests of Def Leppard, The Darkness destroyed Download Festival in 2011, then waved goodbye to their loved ones and toured planet Earth for over 18 months. They rounded off 2013 with a celebratory tour marking the 10th Anniversary of their legendary number one debut album. “Permission to Land” featured the classics ‘I Believe In a Thing Called Love’, ‘Love is Only a Feeling’, ‘Love on the Rocks with No Ice’ and ‘Love is a Many Splendoured Thing’; it was the fastest selling debut album by a British band in America since that of The Spice Girls.
“Last of Our Kind” will be released on limited edition colour vinyl, Compact Disc and downloadable computer files. The Darkness will be announcing more touring plans for later this year very, very soon.

FIREWIND creator and guitarist with Ozzy Osbourne, GUS G. has been very busy over the last year with his solo project. His debut album “I Am The Fire” was released in March 2014, featuring various artists including Mats Levén, Billy Sheehan and Jeff Scott Soto and received an overwhelming response from fans.
Gus has already done some touring with “I Am The Fire” but has just embarked on a new European “We Are The Fire” tour for 2015, along with vocalist Henning Basse, bass player Strutter and drummer Jo Nunez. Support on the tour comes from Italian metallers ARTHEMIS and young English rockers SKARLETT RIOT. I caught up with Gus before his first show in Nottingham on Friday 20th February, where we discussed the tour and future plans including shows and the next solo album. To hear what Gus revealed about his new album, favourite food and drink, FIREWIND and more, check out the interview on the audio player! You can also read some excerpts from the chat below.
GUS G, Blackdiamond Rescue Rooms, Nottingham February 2015
During our chat, Gus mentioned his next solo album, so I asked him more about it. Gus revealed:
“I’ve already written all the songs and we’ve just finished tracking drums. So once I go back home from this tour I’m gonna go back in the studio and start working on the guitars. So yeah, we’re aiming to finish it by summertime.”
Regarding guest musicians, Gus stated:
“It will still be very much like that (last album) but with less guests. It’s going to be more like a close group of people that I collaborate and co-write with. I’m excited about that, it’s a very high energy album actually. There’s a lot more up-tempo and heavier stuff on it, a lot of guitar in it – just focusing a lot on songwriting. I love to have catchy tunes on there that rock hard!
I co-wrote some songs with Mats Levénand also wrote a lot of songs with Jacob Bunton – he also sang on the first album, he has more of a leading role in this album. There’s a couple more people that I’m not gonna mention right now, because it’s still not set.”
Asked when we would hear more from FIREWIND, Gus expressed:
“The reason why I haven’t made any official statements on the band’s website is because I still haven’t found a singer that I’m comfortable working with on a long term basis yet – I’m pretty close to one right now. And also another factor is because I need to feel really one hundred percent confident that the material is going to be killer and it’s going to be a great album.
So we decided with the band there’s no rush to go back in the studio and do another album and tour cycle – we’ve been doing that for ten years nonstop. Right now I have some ideas that I’ve been working on that I’m excited about, but we’re going to start working with this new singer and we’ll see what happens, if he’s the right one.”

DEEZ NUTS have announced their fourth and highly anticipated album “Word Is Bond”, out on Century Media Records on the following dates:
USA/Canada: April 21st, 2015
Europe: April 27th, 2015
The first taste of music comes in the form of the ‘What’s Good?’ music video, which is available now under the following links:
‘What’s Good?’ is the first of four videos to be released in the lead up to the album. Pre-Orders are now launched at our friends from Impericon:smarturl.it/xdeeznutsx
“Word Is Bond” showcases frontman JJ Peters at his most real. It’s a short, sharp shock of pure honesty delivered in inimitable old-school style, and shouts loud and proud that Peters, guitarist Matt ‘RealBad’ Rogers, bassist Sean Kennedy and drummer Alex Salinger are here to stay. The half Melbourne / half New York City based four piece has been touring the world constantly for seven years, becoming one of the most well know hardcore bands Australia has ever produced.
And sure, DEEZ NUTS still go harder than any other motherf*cker in the room but now, with “Word Is Bond” – their fourth album, produced by Andrew Neufeld (Comeback Kid) and Shane Frisby (The Ghost Inside, Bury Your Dead), Peters is confronting exactly what happens when the party stops. And with a little help from his boys Drew York (Stray From The Path, who also guests on ‘Party At The Hill’) and Sam Carter (Architects), he decided to open up like never before.
“I got pigeon-holed,” states Peters plainly. “This band was not meant to be something serious, but it gained momentum as time rolled on and now I can say some shit that I really want to talk about. This album, you know what? I’m going to say what’s on my mind. This is the truest album we’ve ever put out.”
DEEZ NUTS have been touring the globe relentlessly since 2008 and have never taken more than a few weeks off at a time. That intensity takes its toll, and Peters found himself looking long and hard at not just who he is, but who the world thinks he is. And with this line-up of the band cemented since 2011, he felt comfortable and confident enough to lay it all out there.
“On the last album (2013’s ‘’Bout It’) the party vibe was a strong part of what DN was,” he continues, “and I know that’s what everybody was expecting, but I’m not at that time of my life. I’m growing up. I reached out to Drew and Sam and told them I wasn’t feeling it, and they told me to write from the heart about whatever the fuck is on my mind. And I listened to them rather than being what I thought I was supposed to be. And the band approached it as talented musicians who weren’t held back by having to be the four-chord party band.”
“I’m going through real sh*t, sh*t I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and so is everyone else in the band. We’re not a bunch of f*ckin’ dudes who come from privilege. You can hear this, you can feel this. And that’s because this is a passionate album. And people might sympathise and try to empathise, but they just don’t know.”
DEEZ NUTS will tour Europe in April, May and June in support of the album. Dates for Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Canada and the USA will be announced shortly. In the meantime, check out the video trailer for “Word Is Bond” below:
