As anticipation continues to build for the upcoming debut from REVOLUTION SAINTS, the band has released a second music video ‘Back On My Trail’ from the eponymous debut album due to be released on February 20th in Europe, February 23rd in the UK, and February 24th in North America via Frontiers Music SRL. The video for ‘Back On My Trail’ can be seen below:
REVOLUTION SAINTS is Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake) on guitars, Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees, Shaw/Blades) on bass and co-lead vocals and Deen Castronovo (Journey, Bad English) on drums and lead vocals. The album is available for pre-order at Amazon in standard CD at http://geni.us/RevSaintsAMZReg and deluxe edition with bonus DVD at http://geni.us/RevSaintsAMZDlx. Fans who order the album digitally via iTunes at http://geni.us/RevSaintsiTunes will receive an automatic download of ‘Back On My Trail,’ ‘Turn Back Time’ and ‘Way To The Sun (feat. Neal Schon).’
“It’s a fun record. It’s not safe. It is a musician’s record,” states Castronovo.
NIGHTWISH vocalist Floor Jansen has hit out at their upcoming single ‘Élan’ being leaked. Via Instagram, Floor stated:
“Don’t like! Who was the disrespectful ‘fan’ that put our single out before release? We work SO hard to create something special, in high quality! And you think it’s ok to steal it? Dear REAL fans: this Èlan version is NOT official and sounds unlike the real thing!!!! Please wait for our official release next week on the 13th of February! And know that a single is one song, always impossible to cover the contents of an entire album in this one example 🙂 I red reactions based on this illegal spread monster and got sad to the bones with the words based on one song in poor quality illegally spread. Have patience and I have no doubt it will be rewarded.”
New album “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” is set for release in March, 27th (EU), 30th (UK) and 31st (US). Check out a trailer below:
Here is a personal comment on this episode by Tuomas:
“The writing process was extremely smooth and relatively easy. I had more fun than ever during the recordings. The Röskö summer camp was a lot of fun. The days were filled with friendship, hope and music. Obviously the sad thing was that Jukka had to step aside – but everything else has been really good.” And Marco added: “The songs did grow during the process. We started out with Tuomas’ computer demos and my own demos. We put them together – and started building the songs around those basic blocks. They really grew in depth and character along the way.”

ATROCITY has just returned from their shows in Spain. Supporting their latest album “Okkult” the band toured through Europe, North America, the Caribbean and Asia. Pretty much anywhere you can think of, ATROCITY played there!
As a big surprise and first metal band ever on both shows, ATROCITY and Liv Kristine performed at the two big German prime time TV shows ARD – “Das große Fest der Besten” (Annual Schlager Music award TV show) and RTL “Die 2 – Gottschalk & Jauch gegen alle” together with Germany’s biggest “Schlager music” star Heino, who released a Metal and Rock Remix album recently. More than twelve million viewers watched the two TV shows. Some Schlager music artists called a boycott against the metal performance from the beginning; however, the producers of “Das große Fest der Besten” decided to invite Heino and the metal musicians despite the protest.
ATROCITY singer Alex Krull states:
“We had a lot of fun at both of the TV shows. At least every one we met from the world of „Schlager music“ was really nice and very respectful to us. No doubt, it’s certainly a complete different (musical) world. Some people were quite shocked that something like this „could happen“ at such a big TV event and that we were even doing this. But a boycott, really? Come on, people shouldn’t take everything too seriously. Besides all that, the massive stage set with tons of pyro effects rocked and we enjoyed performing with Heino, who is over 50 years in business! Even if you don’t like the music and some people might think Heino is a controversial artist, show me one established 76-year-old mainstream music star who decides and dares to turn his own hits into rock and metal songs and performing them on stage, too. Heino and his team are very nice people and they work highly professional.”
ATROCITY will continue the “OKKULT” World Tour, delivering brutal sets nightly on stage! Soon there will be a new video clip for the song ‘Death by Metal’ released. Until then, enjoy the video for ‘Pandæmonium’ below:

Interviews And Recordings By Sandy Storm And Bobby HQ Storm
NAMM 2015 took place at the Anaheim Convention Center, California, USA from 22-25th January. Luckily for Metal Shock Finland, husband and wife team Sandy and Bobby HQ Storm were there to get into the heart of NAMM and report back all the news from many big names in metal, along with an insight into all the latest instruments and innovations available.
Included in this report, which you can see on the video below are guitarists Alex Skolnick, David Ellefson, Mark Zavon and Roy Z. Ramirez, as well as one of the Fender experts showcasing the newest signature bass guitar for Geddy Lee.
Alex Skolnick told of the busy time he was having at NAMM, with ESP clinics and he had played with the METAL ALLEGIANCE tribute the previous night at the House Of Blues, also the Randy Rhoads remembrance show.
David Ellefson stated that MEGADETH have “new stuff developing, working on a new album” as well as mentioning working with ANTHRAX bass player Frank Bello “working on new songs for our “Altitudes and Attitudes” record“.
Mark Zavon from KILL DEVIL HILL discussed that the band “has been writing and getting ready to start tracking in five or six weeks. We’re looking forward to putting out some new stuff and touring.”
Roy Z. Ramirez enthused about his current project TRIBE OF GYPSIES and also revealed that he is “thinking about doing another group – a hard rock/stoner type of thing“, then he also mentioned bands he is working with at the moment.

Artist: ENSIFERUM Album: One Man Army Label: Metal Blade Records Release Date: 24th February 2015
Tracklist: 1. March Of War 2. Axe Of Judgement 3. Heathen Horde 4. One Man Army 5. Burden Of The Fallen 6. Warrior Without A War 7. Cry For The Earth 8. Two Of Spades 9. My Ancestors’ 10. Descendants, Defiance, Domination 11. Neito Pohjolan
Bonus Tracks: 12. Rawhide 13. Warmetal 14. Candour and Lies 15. Bonus Song
Forged in 1995 as a trio by guitarist/vocalist Markus Toivonen, and presently featuring current and former members of October Falls, Rapture, Norther, Barathrum and Sinergy, ENSIFERUM has been flying the flag of epic, folk-infused death metal high and proud for two decades. A Latin word translating to “Sword Bearer,” ENSIFERUM‘s valiant tale begins humbly with three meticulously composed demos that raised the collective eyebrows of the extreme metal underground with their sharp and dexterous fusion of Bathory-ian darkness, Amorphis-styled melody and poignant accounts of ancient sagas and warrior quests.
“One Man Army”, the primarily analog-recorded long player was tracked between September and November of 2014 with award-winning producer Anssi Kippo (Children Of Bodom, Impaled Nazarene, Entwine etc.) at Astia-Studios in Lappeenranta, Finland and boasts eleven heroic victory psalms.
“The composing process was slow as always,” elaborates Hinkka of the “One Man Army” birthing process. “We twist and turn every note, chord and part upside down so that we can be sure that the result is the best possible. We cut down the actual amount of tracks on the record and really arranged the instruments more wisely.”
“On the new album, we took many things musically to the next level so we decided also to try something new graphics-wise,” relays Hinkka. “Gyula Havancsák did a phenomenal job! For the first time it was really nice to be more involved with designing the cover and all details. Our humble gratitude to Gyula for all the patience and really amazing results. We couldn’t be more satisfied!”
From the very first track we are thrown head first into what we know to be ENSIFERUM inside and out. The battle awaits, the tension is high, the hairs on your neck dance like a fairy in an undisturbed fountain, unaware of its prey, lurking, watching, waiting to strike. Death is coming, you tremble with a fear, an excitement, a nervousness; yet your given perch upon the pillars of the gods to observe the upcoming monstrous, epic, beauty is set before you. Watch… and feel.
Let the battle commence!
“One Man Army” is as epic as previous releases, but is much more concentrated into delivering heavy, head-banging, immense chorals, impressive licks and riffs which not only destroy all expectations, but really deliver one hell of an album, which is by far one of the greatest things I’ve had the privilege to hear in years. The guitar solos are executed beautifully, technically brilliant, and keeping in tone with the track. For me, this is a must as so many bands fail at this.
Vocally, this album delivers an immense feel throughout. ‘Heathen Horde’ really shows how well combining different vocals can work in an album. Melodies are flying, and the fountain fairy is dead! We’re given catchy sing-a-long choruses to disturb the neighbours, truly magical elements of highly technical composed metal and folk, moulded together in a very special release.
Track after track the vocal lines keep you physically connected to the music and battle before you. The beat of the drums messing with you at every given opportunity, and you letting it.
The title track ‘One Man Army’ really delivers an exceptional display of terror. Your heartbeat becomes one with the kick of ‘Janne Parviainen’ as the drums pull you into the music, pushing your senses up into an explicit display of horror, whilst remaining technically brilliant. Chorally strong, musically immense, epic level ‘Infinite’. – ‘It has been told, one of the gods fell off his perch during this track, and has been missing since. A search party has been organised, and will commence within the next ten thousand years’.
By the time you get to the tenth track your mind should be so immersed in the spell ENSIFERUM have laid out before you. If your limbs have not fallen off, and your sense of balance is beginning to restore, I implore you to attempt the powerful ‘Descendants, Defiance, Domination’ with the mesmerizing ‘Maiden-esq’ lyrical harmonies conjuring a path of spine tingling beauty. As the longest track on the album, you wouldn’t notice, as it really takes advantage of keeping you attached all the way. Riff by riff you become immersed into the track, beat by beat you become a part of the creation, vocally and rhythmically destroying every inch of sanity you thought you had at the beginning of this album.
Showing how versatile ENSIFERUM are with their composing, ‘Neito Pohjolan’ is a real treat to hear. Although oddly placed, it has an interesting country music feel to it, yet somehow still works really well with the rest of the album.
I’ve heard so many versions of ‘Rawhide’ over the years, from country versions to metal and even a thrash version, but this version is really, really good. The bonus tracks are a great addition to an exceptional album, full of little hidden qualities which really define ENSIFERUM as giants in their genre.
My personal favourite tracks on this epic album were:
Heathen Horde
Burden Of The Fallen
Two Of Spades
Neito Pohjolan
Rawhide
“One Man Army” is an exceptional album which should be experienced by all.
Rating 10/10
