Pallbearer vocalist/guitarist Brett Campbell stated, “After our short run of Sorrow and Extinction anniversary shows, we are extremely ready to get back out and finally give the Forgotten Days material the road treatment in the EU and UK with Elder and Irist! See you this fall!”

Swedish melodic death metal juggernauts THE HALO EFFECT featuring iconic musicians Mikael Stanne, Jesper Strömblad, Niclas Engelin, Peter Iwers and Daniel Svensson have released the footage of their highly acclaimed rooftop gig to the public. The show that originally aired in May was shot on a roof top near the harbour with a phenomenal view over the band’s hometown, Gothenburg, Sweden, and features 4 songs off the band’s chart smashing debut, Days Of The Lost (#1 in their home country, #6 in Germany, Austria and Finnland among others).
The show can be viewed here:
Singer Mikael Stanne comments: “Here it is finally! Previously only available to Fanvault members and the people who came to see us in Stockholm and Gothenburg as we screened this in theatres. The idea was to tie this band to our hometown and going down to the harbour and rocking out on a rooftop overlooking the city seemed like the perfect fit for us. The downside was of course that we had to do this in the freezing cold winter due to touring schedules getting in the way. Strangely enough this was actually the first ever time we played these songs together and it was an absolute blast. We did a few takes just to get it right and in between we had to run inside, wrap ourselves in blankets and drink copious amounts of steaming hot coffee only to run out again and do it all over again. We hope you guys enjoy this taste of what The Halo Effect live looks and feels like and we cannot wait to see you guys out on the road. View this on the biggest screen in the house and turn it all the way up! Cheers!”
Last Thursday, September 8th, the band kicked off their extensive European Tour alongside AMON AMARTH and legendary label mates MACHINE HEAD.

OPETH have just announced their new drummer, via the band’s Facebook page.
We are pleased to announce that the new drummer in Opeth is no other than Waltteri Väyrynen (Paradise Lost, Bloodbath, Bodom after midnight). Walt will take on his duties effective immediately and will play his first show with the band in Tallinn/Estonia on September 14, 2022. He will replace stand-in drummer Sami Karppinen who has been the temporary replacement for Martin Axenrot since the fall of 2021. The band are currently in rehearsals for the upcoming tour.
Mikael comments: ”We just had our first rehearsal with Walt yesterday and it went incredibly well! We were all very nervous beforehand, but Waltteri completely killed it! Pure delivery! We went through 16 songs (!) from start to finish and didn’t have a single correctional comment. It’s quite remarkable! I was astounded, and so were the rest of the band. He has everything, really. From the required laid-back sensitivity an Opeth drummer needs, via the classic rock, prog rock, metal grooves and onwards to downright mega-intricate technical virtuosity. On top of that, he knows the songs extremely well (already) both from the recorded versions as well as the sometimes modified live versions. We were hearing drum rolls and beats that we hadn’t heard since the songs were recorded. The audience is certainly up for plenty of air-drum moments connected to their favourite Opeth songs. Walt has got it down, to put it mildly.
On top of everything, Waltteri is an awesome bloke. Genuine. Super nice. Funny. And young! He was born the same year we recorded our debut album, ”Orchid”. Imagine that! We very much look forward to going on the road together with him. Create new music together. Play all over the world. And to provide a musical future together with us. This is no small feat for a band 32 years of age. I’m very, very excited about him joining us, and I hope that our audience will embrace him with open arms.
I’d also want to take this opportunity to thank Sami for saving our asses when we most needed saving. If it hadn’t been for his efforts, friendship and care we’d probably been ”on ice” as we speak. We’re furthermore happy to keep Sami as part of the Opeth family. His contribution to Opeth is beyond words, and he’ll continue to help make our performances as good as possible. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Sami!”
Bay Area masters of atmospheric technical death metal FALLUJAH have unleashed their monumental 5th studio album, Empyrean, today with Nuclear Blast. Receiving rave reviews from critics around the world and legions of fans championing their return, FALLUJAH has emerged with one of their best records to date. On their latest epic journey the band explores new sonic realms while revisiting past influences and styles, captivating listeners along the way with Scott Carstairs‘ massive riffs and guitar wizardry and new recruit Kyle Schaefer’sseething vocals. Strap in and witness a cataclysmic collision of atmospheric death metal.
In addition to the record’s release, FALLUJAH has debuted a visualizer for the song ´Mindless Omnipotent Master.´ Watch it here:
Primary songwriter and guitarist Scott Carstairs says of the song:
“‘Mindless Omnipotent Master’ is about the massive, globally-linked systems of technology and society that were created for humankind’s own benefit, but have now grown into self-sustained forces beyond our control. The music sets an appropriately dark tone with four minutes of relentlessly brutal riffs and mechanically sharp precision.“
Carstairs adds about the album’s release:
“It feels surreal to finally share our new album Empyrean with the world! We can hardly describe the amount of effort, determination and patience it took to arrive at this point, but now that the day is here we can finally say that everything was worth it.
Special shoutouts to the fans who have stuck with us for all these years. We hope Empyrean can take you on an immersive journey with enough detail to warrant many repeated listens.”
FALLUJAH will embark on the FACES OF DEATH tour in Europe this November, along with RIVERS OF NIHIL, ALLEGAEON, INFERI and HARBRIGER.

About FALLUJAH: Tech-metal outfit Fallujah intensify their metallic dynamism on stunning new album, Empyrean. Built on an “all killer, no filler” maxim, the Bay Area-based quartet delivered just that on album number five. From video single ´Radiant Ascension´ and ´Embrace Oblivion´ to ´Soulbreaker´ and ´Mindless Omnipotent Master,´Empyreanis breathtaking in atmospheric expanse and impressive in sophistication. Fallujah’s overhauled lineup has contributed massively to the level-up on display. Primary songwriter/guitarist Scott Carstairs and compeer/drummer Andrew Baird enlisted Archaeologist’s Kyle Schaefer and Evan Brewer (formerly Entheos/The Faceless) as their new vocalist and bassist, respectively.
Since forming in 2007, Fallujah have triumphed over their challenges. Whether it’s self-administering the band, going to school, writing music, or working full-time, they’ve savored release of and diehard fan admiration for five albums in The Harvest Wombs(2011), The Flesh Prevails(2014), Dreamless(2016), Undying Light(2019), and their latest Empyrean. Indeed, diligence and creative enterprise have resulted in high-profile tours with Whitechapel, Suffocation, The Black Dahlia Murder, and more across North America, Europe, and Australia. Fallujah also prospered with critics in Metal Hammer, Allmusic and Metalsucks. The group’s Billboard chart positions on the Top Hard Rock Albums and Heatseekers Albums prove that with every twist and turn, Fallujah’s fans are with them.Empyrean, with its revivalist spikes, bolstered atmospherics and high-powered production, is the greatest yet.
Empyreanis a specialist’s paradise. As a rhythm/lead player, Carstairs enters a league of his own. Tracks like ´The Bitter Taste of Clarity,´ ´Radiant Ascension,´ and ´Eden’s Lament´ illustrate he’s upped his chops and boosted the emotional outlay. Throughout, he’s careful about compositional placement and how his radiant, palliative leads complement Fallujah’s sapid landscape. Drummer Baird tastefully and aggressively holds down the fort, grooving and syncopating admirably on ´Radiant Ascension,´ ´Embrace Oblivion,´ and ´Mindless Omnipotent Master.´ Fallujah’s long-standing timekeeper has always been great, but on Empyrean, he’s superior. Right there with him is recently joined bassist Evan Brewer, thundering and bopping on, around, and against Baird’s foundation like a seasoned prizefighter. ´Duality of Intent´ is but one of Brewer’s standouts. Although known for his guitar work outside of Fallujah, newcomer vocalist Kyle Schaefer’s low-end and mid-range bark perfectly matches the existential threat-themed lyrics.
Throughout Empyrean, Fallujah surprise. Musically, lyrically, and with their bevy of guests, they add hard-to-describe depth and musical import. Vocalist Tori Letzler (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) reprises her angelic role on ´Radiant Ascension´ and ´Artifacts,´ while Chiasma’s Katie Thompson also reappears to elevate ´Embrace Oblivion´ and ´Into the Eventide.´ Chaney Crabb of Entheos and Cyborg Octopus’s David Wu tender their considerable talents on ´Mindless Omnipotent Master´ and ´Duality of Intent,´ respectively. Celebrated artist Peter Mohrbacher (Serenity in Murder, Rainbowdragoneyes) replays his role on Empyrean as well. Truly, this is an all-star cast appearing on a momentous album by a band reaching beyond.
“From the beginning of this writing process and until the end, we painstakingly made sure every aspect of this record would blow away our listeners,” states Carstairs. “We meticulously scrutinized every riff and note choice. There has never been this much effort put into a Fallujah record as we did with ‘Empyrean,’ and the result is a truly monstrous record that we believe is the band’s best work by a significant margin. We showed you restraint on the last record. Now, let us show you what happens when we leave it all on the table.”
Today (September 9th), progressive death metal outfit REVOCATION have released their eighth full-length, Netherheaven, via Metal Blade Records. For a preview of the album, a video for the new single “Nihilistic Violence” (directed by David Brodsky // mgenyc.com) can be viewed below.
Revocation songwriter/front-man Dave Davidson comments: “‘Nihilistic Violence’ is probably the meanest song we’ve ever recorded. It’s got a dark and menacing quality to it that the MyGoodEye production team perfectly captured for our latest music video. Bring your hardhats to the pit for this one because shit’s gonna get rowdy.“

Four years in the making, the Billboard-charting trio that is Revocation – Dave Davidson (vocals/guitars), Ash Pearson (drums), and Brett Bamberger (bass) – meticulously explore the allegorical and literal aspects of Hell as they dig deeper into the darker, more diabolical side of death metal. “We put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the album,” says Davidson. “We want people to be inspired. It’s brutal. We brought our A-game on ‘Netherheaven’.“
