LIQUID FLESH Share ‘Police Python 666’ Single from Upcoming 10 Year Anniversary EP

French death metallers LIQUID FLESH will release a new EP, “Vestiges Abrutissants” (mind-numbing vestiges), in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of their formation. The EP is due out on December 13th 2024.

On the EP, the band delivers an inimitable hybrid of gritty basement-bred death metal boosted by sleazy grease and explosive unpredictability.

Today, the band have dropped the new single “Police Python 666“. Stream it HERE.

“Unchallenging music for drunk musicians”

This was the driving force behind the creation of LIQUID FLESH 10 years ago, In 2024. The band was tired of the long rehearsals and tedious composition sessions with their other bands, which made progress feel slow and monotonous. They wanted something raw, direct—a sound that embraced simplicity without pretension, perfect for the energy they were craving. This was the background to the band’s debut album “Spontaneous Liquefaction”, released in 2016.

The band formula has been tightened up with the arrival of Putrid Bruce on bass and vocals, who has given the band a new lease of life: while retaining its original impact, the band offers more convoluted structures on “Chair Liquide” (2020, Metal is the Law Records) before moving on to a concept album with “Dolores” (2023, Time to Kill Records). Nonetheless, some tracks from the first album, like “Tenafly Viper” and “Human Soup”, have never left the band’s setlist. For the band’s 10th anniversary, LIQUID FLESH have chosen to re-record these tracks.

This anniversary is the occasion for an update. French lyrics having taken their place with the arrival of Putrid Bruce, the songs have been completely translated and reworked. The music has also been rearranged, but the biggest improvement lies in the mixing work of Gastric Luke, the band’s jack-of-all-trades (that takes care of the composition, mixing, artwork…), who has gained 10 years of experience: the sound is more powerful, incisive and perfectly honoring the old-school death metal sound.

A celebration is never without its share of surprises: this is the opportunity to introduce the band’s new drummer, Acid Bapt, with his precise and dynamic playing, who joined the band barely a year ago. It is also the occasion to pay tribute, with a cover of the classic Entombed track “Eyemaster”—also translated in French—and a new version of “Police Python 666”, originally recorded during the COVID period and released on the “We Are French Fuck You n°3” compilation.

With its EP “Vestiges Abrutissants” (mind-numbing vestiges), LIQUID FLESH offers us a link between its past and present history like vivid and meaningful memories observed in the rear view mirror. Take a seat, It’s time to open one again!

“Heeding to A Sepulchral Call
A Tempest from Below to Upon Thee Befall
Each Footstep Whisper Wistfully to The Ground
As if The Earth Itself Wouldst Solemnly Mourn” (‘Sanguine Gnosis’)

With their grand second album PESTILENT HEX continue the mystical narrative of their debut and expand into uncharted territories – weaving myth, superstition, dreams and witchcraft into a tapestry of malefic prose to mirror the music’s blackened heart.

Now officially unleashed, “Sorceries of Sanguine & Shadow” is an opus of labyrinthine Black Metal which utilises symphonics to enrich the atmosphere without diminishing its raw intensity.

Listen to the album via DMP’s YouTube channel and all streaming plattforms:

PESTILENT HEX‘s latest masterwork has already garnered acclaim from press and fans alike:

“It might be the most terrifying, evil-sounding Black Metal album I’ve ever heard.” (Metal Epidemic)

“…a vicious assault of Black Metal that adds wickedness into the mix!” (Meat Mead Metal)

“PESTILENT HEX continue to refine their craft, and “Sorceries of Sanguine & Shadow” is another step along their journey to mastery.” (Wonderbox)

Find all album details here!

“Sorceries of Sanguine & Shadow” is released on CD, vinyl – including an exclusive DMP vinyl edition and specially designed merch – and digital. Orders are available via the label’s EU, US, and Bandcamp shops, with bundle options available.

PESTILENT HEX – a curse that claimed our souls and plagued our dreams; a sound that still haunts and possesses us…

PESTILENT HEX is a new band hailing from Finland that drinks deep from the well of the second wave Black Metal tradition – balancing a fine line of symphonic elements but still being firmly rooted in Metal, nevertheless retaining high integrity and artistry.

The band consists of two people, perhaps more well-known from the Death and Doom Metal circles, yet Black Metal is something that has flowed in their veins since the mid-nineties and it constitutes a praxis they grew up with.

The idea of this band was born out of the necessity to pay dues to the genre that formed the musicians and their musical sensibilities. But more importantly, from the ambition to craft a vision of their own what this Art should sound like.

“The Ashen Abhorrence” is the band’s first release. It took them five years of arduous labor and maddening inspiration to complete it. It is a concept album musically and lyrically, that dwells into Faustian aspirations, witchcraft, possession, and the realm beyond – ending in harrowing results.

Building upon the symphonic Black Metal stylings of their masterful 2022 debut “The Ashen Abhorrence“, enigmatic Finnish duo PESTILENT HEX return with second opus, “Sorceries of Sanguine & Shadow“, to herald a new era of malevolent grandeur and melodic aggression, in 2024.

ULVER Release New Studio Album “Liminal Animals”, Out Now

At the end of the roughest year in their history, ULVER is proud to release their thirteenth studio album, titled Liminal Animals.

Liminal Animals is available digitally today, and will be released on vinyl LP in 2025.

UK: https://store.houseofmythology.com/
EU: https://en.houseofmythology.spkr.media/
US: https://houseofmythology.indiemerch.com/pre-orders

Spin back one year. Almost out of nowhere, ULVER starts to drop new songs, sometimes one, sometimes two at the time, like the spectre and its cruel shadow. They are on a roll, doing whatever they want to, and with no immediate or strict concept other than to keep the beast alive.

“Quite liberating in these twilight years”, they said.

But as the pieces are laid out, the songs start to shape a world of their own. Creatures abound. Ghosts and spiders, gods and sheep. Flocks, swarms, and sensations. (See The Senseless Seven, Austin Osman Spare’s drawn self-portrait on the album cover.)

There’s something in the air.

Liminal Animals
is permeated by the smell of disaster and documents, with deep concern, a dark and troubled place in a dark and troubled time. Yes, in the vast ULVER catalogue, now dating back 30 years, it wouldn’t be hard to argue that Liminal Animals can be seen as a continuation of its acclaimed predecessors The Assassination of Julius Caesar (2017) and Flowers of Evil (2020). This time around, though, their reflections on the overwhelming confusion and conflict seem to have become more pronounced and explicit, as if the songs were born out of the acute intensity of the current situation.

What in the world is happening now?

Musically, the album opener ‘Ghost Entry’, which broke the silence almost one year ago, could indeed be seen as taking a lead from their previous albums. But Liminal Animals soon reveals itself to also be a reflection on their deeper history. The guitar and bass driven second track, ‘A City in the Skies’, might hint at the rockier moments of their Blood Inside album (2005), whereas the soothing, melancholic ‘Forgive Us’, featuring world-renowned trumpet player Nils Petter Molvær, and the smouldering ‘Locusts’ could have been relics from the years between Shadows of the Sun (2007) and Wars of the Roses (2011). Similarly, the album’s two haunted nocturnes could have been secret transmissions from ULVER’s earlier electronic ambient oeuvre or the stellar experiments on ATGCLVLSSCAP (2016).

And one could go on like this, and never really hit the mark. What about the B-side opener, the infectious and anthemic ‘Hollywood Babylon’, or the final single ‘The Red Light’, both showcasing Stian Westerhus’s inventive guitar work, and among ULVER’s catchiest moments?

Liminal Animals feels and sounds like a record made by a band being on a threshold.

Set in a perfect storm
.

There’s no way around this: as the making of Liminal Animals commenced in 2022, Tore Ylvisaker, sound wizard, keyboardist, and a core member since 1997, had gradually drifted away from the pack. Initially to pursue other endeavours, before removing himself completely from the workings of the band. Everyone still reading knows what happened in August, as the rest of the pack was about to end the recording sessions. The absence of brother Tore, to whom Liminal Animals is dedicated, will forever haunt these tracks.

There’s a final song in here, too. ‘Helian’, a dark and intoxicated, 11-minute track, recorded in September, and featuring Jørn H. Sværen’s reading of the dreamlike and on the verge of delirious long poem by Georg Trakl (1887–1914). It is the eulogy no one could have expected, revealing ULVER’s continued exploration of groove, repetition, and texture. It is, I think, the inevitable rite of passage, a journey to the borders of language and the disintegrating form. Into the unknown.

As the intense flow of words ceases and the crackling beats and sounds recede, ‘Helian’ feels like the fulfilment of a promise. Wolves Evolve.

Where to go from here?

Liminal Animals Tracklist:

  1. Ghost Entry
  2. A City In The Skies
  3. Forgive Us
  4. Nocturne #1
  5. Locusts
  6. Hollywood Babylon
  7. The Red Light
  8. Nocturne #2
  9. Helian (Trakl)
