THE TRAGICALLY HIP CAP Off 40th Anniversary Year with Release of Deluxe Boxset for Diamond-Certified Debut Album “Up To Here”

THE TRAGICALLY HIP CAP digitally release the commemorative boxset of their Diamond-certified debut album, Up To Here, the latest installment of special deluxe packages. Up To Here was originally released September 5, 1989, as The Tragically Hip’s first full-length studio album, an introduction that brought them breakthrough success, including two Canadian rock radio #1 singles, “Blow at High Dough” and “New Orleans is Sinking.” The album also earned the band a JUNO Award for “Most Promising Artist” in 1990.

The expanded reissue of Up To Here is a must-have for collectors, presented as a four-LP set on 180g vinyl, alongside liner notes documenting the history of the debut album era. The reissue includes a 2024 remastering of the original album and five previously unreleased songs that didn’t make it on the original Up To Here album – “She’s Got What It Takes,” “Get Back Again,” “Rain, Hearts And Fire,” “Hailstone Hands Of God,” and “Wait So Long” are also shared as part of this expanded package, remastered and mixed in Atmos. A recording of Live at Misty Moon, the special filmed for MuchMusic in 1990 from the Misty Moon Cabaret in Halifax, is also included, with an accompanying 1-hour concert film on Blu-ray. The package also contains demos from 1988 that were recorded prior to the Up To Here recording session. The four-LP box set, as well as a three-disc CD format, will be released on Friday, November 15. Fans can order “Up To Here” HERE.

In June, The Tragically Hip officially dropped the new single “Get Back Again,” which fans consider to be the holy grail of previously unreleased tracks from the band. The track was recorded before signing to their first major record deal with MCA (now Universal Music Canada), produced by Chris Wardman in November 1988, before the Up To Here sessions, now remixed and mastered to today’s standards. The song recently reached #1 in Canada, marking their first chart-topping hit in 15 years. The band performed “Get Back Again” as part of the Live At Misty Moon set in 1990, which had been the only recorded version of the track from the band until now.

“The Tragically Hip push the sounds of heartland and down-home country-rock on Up to Here. This album also marks the band’s first stateside release, and basically, it’s a record of burgeoning talent, suggesting what is yet to come from The Tragically Hip. Frontman Gordon Downie is raw and rugged, twisting American trad rock into gritty rock & roll. There’s a lot of heartfelt emotion woven into pure musical swagger on songs like “New Orleans Is Sinking” and “When the Weight Comes Down.” “Blow at High Dough” follows the lead of its foot-stompin’, hand-clappin’ rock tracks.” – All Music Guide 1989

THE TRAGICALLY HIP IN 2024:
2024 marked the band’s 40th anniversary, which included physical releases (boxset featuring unreleased tracks, also available on DSPs and radio), fan-centric activations (Record Store Day, in-person screenings, listening parties, and public singalongs), the global premiere of a docuseries, a coffee table book in partnership with Genesis Publications, new merch, dedicated support at radio, streaming platforms, syncs, and social media campaigns.

The celebration kicked off in March when fans were teased with the upcoming coffee table book, This Is Our Life. In April, the band was tapped as the Canadian Record Store Day Ambassadors and released exclusive vinyl from their 1993 performance at NYC’s iconic CBGBs.

On August 8th,  the band’s hit “Ahead By A Century” was featured in The Umbrella Academy on Netflix. The next day, Prime Video’s trailer was released, leading to a 138% spike in Shazam searches in one day.

No Dress Rehearsal, directed by Mike Downie (brother of the late Gord Downie, lead singer of the band), opened the Toronto International Film Festival in September, where it won the People’s Choice Documentary Award, the first time a series received this honor in the festival’s history. Following the premiere, a massive public singalong of the band’s hits took place in downtown Toronto, attended by fans. The series received rave reviews from Rolling Stone Magazine, SPIN Magazine, NPR, BBC, and others. It also had additional screenings at film festivals and won the 25th Anniversary Audience Award for Top Overall Score at the Calgary International Film Festival.

40 YEARS OF THE TRAGICALLY HIP:
The Tragically Hip has been at the heart of the Canadian musical zeitgeist, evoking a strong, unrivalled emotional connection between their music and their fans. A five-piece group of friends including Rob Baker (guitar), Gord Downie (vocals, guitar), Johnny Fay (drums), Paul Langlois (guitar) and Gord Sinclair (bass), who grew up in Kingston, Ontario, The Tragically Hip have achieved both mass popularity with more than 12 million albums in Canada and over 2 million sold in the U.S, as well as peer recognition through 17 Juno Awards – picking up the distinguished Humanitarian Award in 2021 at the 50th annual JUNO Awards, which recognizes Canadian artists or industry leaders whose humanitarian contributions have positively enhanced the social fabric of Canada and beyond. In 2022, they were inducted into Canada’s Walk Of Fame for Humanitarianism in pursuit of social and environmental justice. They had previously received a star on the Walk Of Fame in 2002 for Arts & Entertainment. Most recently, the band, along with their manager, Jake Gold, received the War Child Canada Founder’s Award, celebrating over 20 years of support for the global humanitarian organization. The Tragically Hip’s tireless activism and philanthropic pursuits have raised millions of dollars for multiple social and environmental causes, such as Camp Trillium, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Sunnybrook Foundation, WAR Child, the Special Olympics, and the Unison Benevolent Fund. Their studio catalogue includes their self-titled debut album The Tragically Hip (1987), Up To Here (1989), Road Apples (1991), Fully Completely (1992), Day For Night (1994), Trouble At The Henhouse (1996), Phantom Power (1998), Music @ Work (2000), In Violet Light (2002), In Between Evolution (2004), World Container (2006), We Are The Same (2009), Now For Plan A (2012), Man Machine Poem (2016) and Saskadelphia (2021).  A National Celebration was the final show of The Tragically Hip’s Man Machine Poem Tour, recorded on August 20th, 2016, at the K-Rock Centre in their hometown of Kingston, Ontario, and is their last performance as a five-piece band. Through their career, the band became a cultural touchstone in Canada, who, despite their accolades and numerous recognitions, will always be proudest of the humanitarian work they have done over the years through numerous charitable organizations and causes. The legacy of the band’s frontman, the late Gord Downie, continues with The Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund, which aims to build cultural understanding and create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

Established in 1984, 2024 marks 40 Years of The Tragically Hip – a milestone for the beloved band. The Tragically Hip broke open the archives, reminiscing with fans on four decades of music, friendship, and philanthropy. The band’s legacy is being honored with a yearlong celebration, which started with the designation of the Record Store Day Canada Ambassadors, the launch of a four-part Amazon Prime Documentary titled No Dress Rehearsal, which won The People’s Choice Award at TIFF, and the 25th Anniversary audience award for top overall score at CIFF. On October 1, in partnership with Genesis Publications, they released a deluxe, hand-crafted book titled This Is Our Life, the band’s story as told in their own words and features more than 300 pages of unseen rarities pulled from the band’s personal collections. The Up To Here boxset celebrates the early days of The Tragically Hip and is the latest installment of a series of reissues released over the last few years honoring the band’s extensive catalog – Road Apples 30th Anniversary Deluxe Boxset (2021), Fully Completely Vinyl Release (2022), Phantom Power 25th Anniversary Deluxe Boxset (2023).

MARBLE Celebrate “T.I.M.E.” Album Release with New Music Video ‘The Sleepless King’

Symphonic metal fans, the wait is over! Italian band MARBLE returns with their powerful new release “T.I.M.E.”, an album that dives deep into themes of self-discovery and theatrical mystique. From dramatic riffs to melodic interludes, Marble delivers an immersive experience for all metal lovers.

For the album’s release day, the band is sharing their new music video “The Sleepless King”. Inspired by Lady Macbeth’s haunting story, this single combines Eleonora Travaglino’s powerful vocals with intense thrash-like verses and captivating solos!

After the excellent reception of the previous album ‘S.A.V.E.’, whose lyrics were centered on the deadly sins and theological virtues, the Italian melodic metal band MARBLE returns to the scene with a new, even more, compact and more ambitious album, the third seal of the band from Mortara (North Italy). ’T.I.M.E.’ revolves around female characters in the history of Western theatre, marking the time in the stylistic evolution of stage performances, starting with the ancient Greek tragedy of Euripides, passing through the British theatre of William Shakespeare, to the Russian social revolution of Anton Čechov, and on to the modern American theatre of Samuel Beckett.

The sextet, with an unchanged lineup and still led by the voice of Eleonora Travaglino, exploits the singer’s years of experience as a theatre actress, bringing to the compositions a heartfelt and dense interpretation that also makes use of important guests such as Ivan Adami (Stranger Vision) on “The Jester Duplicity”, Clode (Tethra) who offers his growl on “Heliosyncrasy” and “Theater Is My Essence”, and finally an entire choir for “Smile In Decay”.

The alternations between tight blast beats and melodic openings are the hallmark of Marble’s sound, focusing on the album ‘T.I.M.E.’ on vocal arrangements and melodic interlocks between guitars and keyboards. The album was produced by the band itself and mixed by Marco Zanibelli (Myriads Lights) at SunDowner Studio and stunning cover artwork by Greek artist Giannis Nakos of Remedy Art Design (Kamelot, Evergrey, Amaranthe, Suffocation etc.).

“We are proud to present ‘T.I.M.E.’, an album that for us means a leap forward in the composition of music and lyrics. The connection of the songs linked by the thread of theatre is a special concept and we are sure it will hit the mark with some really powerful tracks. Eleonora’s multiple vocal lines are set over a powerful rhythmic base, reminiscent of names such as Nevermore and Evergrey, perfectly set against articulate guitar solos and keyboard arrangements that fill out the sound, all set to Norman Ceriotti’s fast and precise drumming.” adds the band.

“T.I.M.E.” is available as of November 8th, 2024 from Rockshots Records and is available for order at https://shop.rockshots.eu/en/cd/6947-marble-time.html – Digital: https://lnk.to/YisGfi

ERSHETU Stream New Album “Yomi”, Out Now

“It flickers.
Last glimmer,
Ultimate light.
Then nothing
…
So many questions,
So few answers.
It all ends tonight.” (‘Nenokatasukuni’)

Building upon their opulent and darkly captivating debut “Xibalba“, cinematic Black Metal ensemble ERSHETU – featuring composer Sacr, conceptualist Void (DMP), and lead vocalist Vindsval (BLUT AUS NORD, FORHIST) – officially release an intense and mesmerizing successor: “Yomi“.

Centred around the concept of ‘kami’, the divine beings in Japan’s Shinto tradition, the album is a rich tapestry of ritual percussion, orchestration and atmospherics. It interweaves the evocative sounds of traditional Japanese instruments such as the Koto and Shamisen with relentless, cerebral Black Metal.

Immerse yourself in the six haunting tracks below or via Bandcamp:

Press and fans alike have already bestowed praise upon ERSHETU‘s latest work of Art:

““Yomi” stands as a clear progression and an essential experience for open-minded fans of Black Metal.” (Vampster.com)

“… an absolute must-hear experience for any who like their Black Metal daring and adventurous!” (Headbanger Reviews)

“Fantastic album! The Japanese instruments blend perfectly and create a special atmosphere!” (VargTorrent / YouTube)

Find all album details here!

“Yomi” is available on CD, vinyl and digital. Orders are possible via the label’s EU, US and Bandcamp shops.

ERSHETU was founded in 2021 by conceptualist/lyricist Void and composer Sacr to create cinematic music that blends epic, obscure, and atmospheric Metal with the evocative dramatism of film scores. Each album examines the concept of ‘death’ as interpreted by different civilizations or religions.

The project’s 2023 debut, “Xibalba“, drew inspiration from Mayan folklore and sacred text the Popol Vuh, and featured the unmistakable vocals of Norway’s Lars Are Nedland (BORKNAGAR, SOLEFALD) plus bass/additional guitars by the enigmatic French artist Vindsval (BLUT AUS NORD, FORHIST).

ERSHETU‘s second work, “Yomi“, explores the death-lore of Japanese Shinto. The album features an expanded role for Vindsval – including lead vocals – and sees the band heading to deeper and darker territory.

“Yomi” was released on November 8, 2024.

LIQUID FLESH Announce Ten Year Anniversary Release “Vestiges Abrutissants”, Out December 13th

Hot on the heels of last year’s brand new brooding full-length “Dolores”, French death metallers LIQUID FLESH will release a new EP, “Vestiges Abrutissants” (mind-numbing vestiges), in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of their formation. The EP is due out on December 13th 2024.

The first single “Tenafly Viper” is now streaming HERE.

“Unchallenging music for drunk musicians”

This was the driving force behind the creation of LIQUID FLESH 10 years ago, In 2024. The band was tired of the long rehearsals and tedious composition sessions with their other bands, which made progress feel slow and monotonous. They wanted something raw, direct—a sound that embraced simplicity without pretension, perfect for the energy they were craving. This was the background to the band’s debut album “Spontaneous Liquefaction”, released in 2016.

The band formula has been tightened up with the arrival of Putrid Bruce on bass and vocals, who has given the band a new lease of life: while retaining its original impact, the band offers more convoluted structures on “Chair Liquide” (2020, Metal is the Law Records) before moving on to a concept album with “Dolores” (2023, Time to Kill Records). Nonetheless, some tracks from the first album, like “Tenafly Viper” and “Human Soup”, have never left the band’s setlist. For the band’s 10th anniversary, LIQUID FLESH have chosen to re-record these tracks.

This anniversary is the occasion for an update. French lyrics having taken their place with the arrival of Putrid Bruce, the songs have been completely translated and reworked. The music has also been rearranged, but the biggest improvement lies in the mixing work of Gastric Luke, the band’s jack-of-all-trades (that takes care of the composition, mixing, artwork…), who has gained 10 years of experience: the sound is more powerful, incisive and perfectly honoring the old-school death metal sound.

A celebration is never without its share of surprises: this is the opportunity to introduce the band’s new drummer, Acid Bapt, with his precise and dynamic playing, who joined the band barely a year ago. It is also the occasion to pay tribute, with a cover of the classic Entombed track “Eyemaster”—also translated in French—and a new version of “Police Python 666”, originally recorded during the COVID period and released on the “We Are French Fuck You n°3” compilation.

With their EP “Vestiges Abrutissants” (mind-numbing vestiges), LIQUID FLESH offers us a link between its past and present history like vivid and meaningful memories observed in the rear view mirror. Take a seat, It’s time to open one again!

Tracklist:

I. Tenafly Viper
II. Police Python 666
III. Torture
IV. Soupe Humaine
V. L’Oeil du Maître (Entombed Cover)

Line-up :

Gastric Luke – Guitars, Backing vocals
Putrid Bruce – Bass, Vocals
Acid Bapt – Drums

BOWELS OF SUFFERING Unleash New Album “[B.o.S] 2.0” + Music Video ‘Deus X Makina’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on November 11, 2024
Posted in: News. Tagged: BOWELS OF SUFFERING. Leave a comment

France’s groundbreaking industrial metal act Bowels of Suffering is set to leave an indelible mark on the genre with the release of their highly anticipated album, [B.o.S] 2.0, available now via Wormholedeath Records.

To celebrate, the band is also unveiling the intense new video for “Deus X Makina,” a song that plunges deep into themes of identity, transformation, and the conflict between man and machine.

“Deus X Makina” is a visceral exploration of the trauma accompanying transformation. The song imagines the consciousness of a wild animal — a wolf — becoming self-aware, only to find its body altered beyond recognition with mechanical augmentations. The wolf, now the Deus X Makina, embarks on a quest for his soul, driven by a desire to reclaim his identity after his body and mind have been ravaged by change.

This powerful track delves into the psyche of a being who no longer recognizes himself in the mirror, torn between human and machine. It evokes a schizophrenic, almost maddening vision of self, leading the character to an extreme act of reclaiming his true self — ripping off his own face. This intense journey highlights the inner conflict of radical transformation, where the line between humanity and artificiality blurs into oblivion.

The song and video are a perfect representation of Bowels of Suffering’s ability to combine industrial metal with thought-provoking narratives, creating a dark, immersive world that resonates with listeners on a profound emotional level.

Stream [B.o.S] 2.0 Now, available on all digital platforms at orcd.co/bos20

With their debut album, Bowels of Suffering spins a dark narrative of Gaia, the Earth’s spirit, rising in fury against humanity’s reckless greed. The album is a sonic assault—fusing eerie mechanical elements, electronic grooves, and orchestral moments—to create a soundtrack that underscores the war between cyborgs and humans. A sensory journey, [B.o.S] 2.0 offers a powerful glimpse into a world where chaos and harmony collide in the heart of an apocalyptic struggle.

Bowels of Suffering is :
Marquis de Lanuit: lead vocals
Baron Thomas Von Letscher: guitars, keys, orchestrations & programming
Lord Matthieu Morand: guitars, keys, orchestrations & programming
Tsar Andrzej: bass & backing vocals
