INTO ETERNITY: “Buried In Oblivion” Album Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Vinyl Reissue

“Imagine Death crossed with Dream Theater and ‘Painkiller’-era Judas Priest, and you have INTO ETERNITY” – Metal Injection

It might seem hard to fathom in a post-djent era, but once upon a time, it was unthinkable to mix progressive metal and technical death metal, two decidedly distinct subgenres of heavy metal whose disparate fan bases overlapped little, if at all. The pioneering “extreme progressive metal” group INTO ETERNITY, however, showed that it was not only possible, but inconceivable that no one had done so sooner. Bridging the gap between Death and Dream Theater, the influential Canadian band – founded by guitarist Tim Roth – paved the way for scores of today’s genre-agnostic acts. True extreme music pioneers, INTO ETERNITY showed the world just how limitless metal could be – and also how glorious it could sound in the process.

This Friday, Nov. 1st, M-Theory Audio is proud to honor INTO ETERNITY’s continued legacy by reissuing another of their most significant albums. The 20th Anniversary edition of ‘Buried In Oblivion’ – the group’s 2004 classic heralded by many as their breakthrough album. We’re reissuing a limited-edition (400 copies) pressing on Splattered in Oblivion colored vinyl, and an exclusive (webstore and bandcamp) direct-only 100 copy pressing on Marbled in Oblivion, each includes newly-written liner notes by Tim Roth and drummer Jim Austin in an expanded layout.

“’Buried In Oblivion’ is one of my very favourite albums. It’s album number 3 and it’s the album that really put us on the metal map. We started touring all the different countries and got to play with all of our favourite bands. The tour that really stands out was the Opeth/Nevermore/Into Eternity USA Tour and we were out supporting ‘Buried In Oblivion,’” recalls Tim Roth. “This is an album worth spinning again for the 20th anniversary. It’s one of our best albums with some of our best songs. There’s a lot of ear candy going on as well as some great instrumental music with brutal death vocals but also excellent vocals/harmonies. Thanks to M-Theory Audio for releasing this very special album in our band career!”

The original album was released in 2004 on Century Media, who graciously once again agreed to license us the band’s backcatalogue — we pressed the vinyl firsts of the Into Eternity’s self-titled debut and the classic ‘Incurable Tragedy’ in 2020. The artwork for ‘Buried in Oblivion’ was created by Mattias Noren (Epica, Kamelot, Evergrey) and the album was produced by then-bassist Scott Krall and Chris Gasparic (Hazzerd). It features the music video for emphasis track “Spiraling Into Depression”:

Order now at HERE http://lnk.to/buriedinoblivion
Album in stores Friday, Nov. 1st.

In the meantime, INTO ETERNITY are back at work on their next album which includes the return of beloved vocalist Stu Block.

“The seventh Into Eternity album is currently being recorded. The production is being handled by Mitch Fraser @ MF Studios and Justin Bender @ Divergent Sounds,” announces Tim. “Justin recently sent me a mix of a new song and it is a neck snapper! Can’t wait to release these new Into Eternity songs. Right now there is no ETA, but album 7 is on the way! It’s going to be worth the wait.”

Chilean ATER Reveal New Video for ‘Through The Portal’

Chilean metal extremists ATER have revealed a haunting new video for their doom  laden single “Through The Portal,” from the band’s new album, ‘Somber,” that’s out now from Torque Records.

Commenting on the song and video founding vocalist/bassist Fernando Bühring says:

“This is a very special video for me personally and also making it means I realized one of my dreams true. I once had a vision of making a video exactly like this one when visiting the mystic Araucanía region of my home country Chile many years ago. This place has a very special energy and the nature features are extremely unique. The Araucaria trees make you feel like you are in a different planet. We chose the base of the Lanín Volcano to shoot this video as this mountain is so epic. We got lucky with the only open sky day of the entire winter season and faced extreme cold weather of around -7 Celsius average for two days, wearing only thin fabrics. It took us to the very edge of what we can do physically and mentally.

It was also very challenging to bring the crew and equipment to such a remote location. The end result I’m extremely proud of and I hope the rest of you enjoys it as well!”

Released earlier this year, ATER’s 2nd full-length album, ‘Somber’, is a cataclysmic melding of black, death, progressive and thrashing groove for one of the year’s devastating heavy metal records, featuring stand out tracks like “Descending” and “Ignis Immortalis.”

ATER recently wrapped up a tour with BATUSHKA/PATRIARKH, VLTIMAS and GOD DETHRONED and a performance at TUROCK FESTIVAL. As the year winds down, the band will return to the writing and recording of their next brutal masterpiece.

About ATER:

ATER is an enigmatic band that was born in Santiago, Chile in 2010, out of the mind of Fernando Bühring @fernando.ater. Originally named ¨Aeons Collide¨ to later be re-named ¨ATER¨ in 2013.

ATER went on to become an international band lead by funding member, Chilean multi-instrumentalist Fernando ¨Feroz¨ Bühring.

After meeting at a Meshuggah show in Los Angeles, days after the release of their debut album ‘Eternal Gray Spiral,’ ATER was joined by the talents of Josh “Sol” Seguin and Stephan “Kalani” Seguin, playing guitar and drums, respectively.

With a new lineup and a new vision, Fernando took the lead on songwriting for their new album titled ‘Somber,’ combining sounds from black and death metal to progressive and heavy Meshuggah-inspired syncopated grooves. Pushing the boundaries of the instrumentation by bringing the tuning down to low earth-shattering frequencies, all topped with demented-sounding low growl vocals, reminiscent of bands like Septicflesh, Hate and Belphegor, plus the heavy ambience and clean sections that became ATER´s signature with the first album ‘Eternal Gray Spiral.’

‘Somber‘ was recorded during the Covid pandemic and was mixed by Fernando in a temporary studio in Mexico City where he was quarantined during restricted times. The album was then mastered by non other than Ted Jensen of Sterling Sound (Mastodon, Gojira, Korn).

Tagged by fans —who already have seen them live— as “Blackened Thall,” the new album ‘Somber‘ can be described as one of the heaviest, darkest and most extreme works ever created in metal. Every song on the album carries a story, creating an immersive experience for the listener from beginning to end, thanks to the album’s clever songwriting, unique structuring and heavy, dark ambience.

ATER’s sophomore album ‘Somber‘ is ready to see the light in 2024. The band worked closely with renowned artist Erik Burton Kirchner who created the artwork for the album. He managed to portray the darkness of the music and brought the entire work to newheights.

THE HALO EFFECT Unleash Stunning Video for ‘March Of The Unheard’

Swedish melodic death metal rising stars THE HALO EFFECT has just dropped the official music video for their powerful new single, ‘March Of The Unheard’, the title track from their highly anticipated sophomore album, set to be released on January 10th, 2025.

The visually stunning video matches the intensity of the song, blending dark, atmospheric imagery with explosive performance shots, delivering a cinematic experience that complements the band’s signature sound.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting new material from THE HALO EFFECT. The upcoming album March Of The Unheard promises to showcase the band’s evolving artistry while staying true to the melodic death metal roots that their fans have come to love.

Guitarist Niclas Engelin comments on the song:”This song is based around the melody theme for the intro on all our ninety-six shows. I just got the idea of starting the whole album with this theme and building a full song around it. Mikael took the whole song to another level with his lyrics, which enlighten the need for our society to hear the voices of the unheard – the powerless.”

He continues: “We are all suckers for melancholic melodies in an up tempo beat, and add some harmonies to that, and we get a beautiful Halo song. Working with the mighty Gothenburg Marching band “Göta Lejon” just blew our minds both in the studio and live.. damn they are powerfull!!”

Punk Icons DEAD BOYS Recorded “Live in San Francisco” in 1977, Gets Now First Ever Official Release

Posted by tarjavirmakari on October 29, 2024
Posted in: News. Tagged: Dead Boys. Leave a comment

From New York out of Cleveland, the Dead Boys were the most incendiary of Manhattan’s first wave punk bands.

Louder than the Ramones, faster than Patti Smith, more feral than Television, and fronted by Stiv Bators, an unholy cross between Iggy Pop, David Johansen and all the Sex Pistols put together, the Dead Boys were also responsible for one of the all-defining anthems of the CBGBs era, “Sonic Reducer.”  Not to mention two full albums that remain untouchable in terms of punk’s finest.

And if they were monstrous on record, they were almost brutal on stage. Touring relentlessly, the Dead Boys were a seething, dizzying blur of dynamic action and brain-charring volume that left audiences wilting and music critics gaping, powering through a repertoire that simply dripped with future classics… “Caught with the Meat In Your Mouth,” “Flame Thrower Love,” “Down in Flames” – they even immortalized one of New York City’s most feared serial killers, the Son of Sam, even as his reign of terror unfolded.

Another Dead Boys classic, “What Love Is” is out as the band’s latest single.

All these and more (to paraphrase the title of yet another Dead Boys masterpiece) are included on Live in San Francisco, a raw, verité recording of the band’s legendary November 1977 appearance at that city’s historic Old Waldorf – a gig later immortalized as one of the crucial landmarks in local punk rock lore.

Approved by guitarist Cheetah Chrome, this is the first ever official release of this wild and thrilling recording, an unforgettable firestorm that captures every drop of sweat, fleck of spittle and burst of crazed energy that made Dead Boys the kings of American punk rock!

And it wraps up with the Dead Boys’ signature slam through the Stooges’ “Search and Destroy,” a version that makes even the original sound tame.

In addition to this fantastic live album release, Ignorance In Action (The Rarities)  is a treasure trove of Dead Boys rarities, including previously unreleased vintage demo sessions and live recordings; the rare 1987 reunion 12″ single; plus sessions from Kirk Yano’s After Dark studio in Cleveland from 1978!
