LUCIFER Release Cover of Leonard Cohen Song ‘Who By Fire’

Just one week before embarking on the second leg of their 2024 ‘Satanic Panic’ European Tour and right on time for spooky season, heavy occult rock congregation LUCIFER have unveiled a stunning cover version of a song by by the late great Leonard Cohen. ‘Who By Fire‘ features none other than doom metal legend Bobby Liebling of PENTAGRAM as a duet partner for Johanna Platow Andersson. Witness two generations of occult rock and doom metal joining forces for a unique take on this classic tune from 1974.

“Growing up with Leonard Cohen’s music, as my mother was a passionate fan, I have always been profoundly touched by his lyrics and of course especially gravitated towards this extremely haunting death theme. Bobby Liebling and I have been talking about collaborating for quite a few years now. When I knew I wanted Lucifer to cover “Who By Fire”, Bobby was the perfect one to interpret this very eerie song and I am so glad he said yes. Being a huge Pentagram fan, this is quite something for me! We are extremely pleased how ‘Who By Fire’ turned into a Lucifer song and Halloween was the perfect occasion to release this morbid work.“

LUCIFER will continue their successful 2024 ‘Satanic Panic’ European Tour next week, and once again they’re being joined by German rising stars, The Night Eternal. The tour package will be completed by US heavy metal band Tanith, which features Russ Tippins (original guitar player of NWOBHM legends SATAN) on guitar and vocals. Finnish Hope Is a Lie’s second single ‘Suits’ features Amber Shadows on vocals – and she is not holding anything back! Driven forward by heavy guitar riffs, this industrial inspired song represents Hope Is a Lie in its most aggressive form. Lyrically the song focuses on what men in suits are good for, ending up with the simple conclusion that men in suits are best when dead.

“Under Silver Sky” is the title track from STUD‘s upcoming fifth album, showcasing the band’s signature heavy rock sound. This Finnish band has created a song that speaks to the themes of renewal and freedom. The lyrics describe the feeling of shedding past burdens and embracing new dreams, with vivid imagery of waking up to a fresh start and feeling reborn under a serene, silver sky. STUD is a Finnish heavy rock band known for their powerful sound, blending classic hard rock with melodic heavy metal. Formed in 1986, the band initially made a strong impact on the Finnish rock scene before taking a break in the early 1990s. 

After a period of inactivity, STUD made a triumphant return in 2011, reigniting their passion for music and reconnecting with their fans. Their debut album, “Out of the Darkness,” was released in 2013 and included a mix of new tracks and re-recorded songs from their early days. This album received international acclaim, with radio airplay in over 20 countries, and marked the beginning of a new era for the band.

Building on the success of their debut, STUD have released several albums further establishing their sound for delivering melodic hard rock with a modern edge. The band’s last album, “War of Power” came out in 2020, showcasing their continued evolution and commitment to their craft. The album is their best yet, and the upcoming “Under Silver Sky” will continue with the same path.

The current lineup features Ari Toivanen on vocals, Mika Kansikas on guitar, Lauri Leno on bass and Stenda Kukkonen on drums. All others but Lauri are original members of the band.

THANATOS Share ‘Global Purification’ Video from Anniversary DVD

Hollands’ oldest death metal band THANATOS is premiering a video from the group’s upcoming anniversary album & DVD “Four Decades Of Death”, set to celebrate the 40th year of the band’s existence on November 15th via Agonia Records. Watch “Global Purification”, taken from the DVD, here:

“From beyond the grave we bring you this album with unreleased stuff from the past four decades plus a cool live registration of our last show ever,” comments THANATOS‘s founder, Stephan Gebédi (Hail Of Bullets). “Filmed at the Baroeg Open Air festival in our hometown Rotterdam on September 10th 2022, the band played songs ranging from the early demo days to our final album «Violent Death Rituals» in front of about 8000 people. This is a posthumous celebration of our 40th anniversary. Releasing this rare, unreleased stuff on CD/vinyl and our final show on DVD feels like a great way to end things or, to put it more bluntly, put the last nail in our coffin!”

“Four Decades Of Death” consists of previously unreleased songs and a DVD, which captures, on a multi-cam recording, the band’s last live show from 2022. The album will be released in CD, LP (both formats to include the DVD) and digitally. The cover artwork was drawn by Toni Hietomaa.
