Instrumental folk duo TABERNIS take us on a journey to medieval times once more with “Apes Saltis”, the third single off their alluring debut album, Seasons of the Dark Hive. Crafting captivating tunes from echoes of the past, the ethereal musicians explore age-old heritage with an other-worldly charm. As seductive as honey, “Apes Saltis” reaches out and pulls into the shadows to join TABERNIS’ Dark Hive. Seasons of the Dark Hive will be out this Friday, April 24, 2026 via Napalm Records.

TABERNIS about “Apes Saltis”:
“‘Apes Saltis’ is our album closer. It is festive, and the lyrics talk about the Collectio season: the harvest before winter. We prepare before the rest. The harvest is sealed. The Beekeepers fade away, but their song remains. Join the Dark Hive.”

Hear the call: TABERNIS summon the shadows for their debut album, Seasons of the Dark Hive, coming April 24, 2026 via Napalm Records. Born out of a passion for history, the enigmatic folk duo created an immersive sound, with bagpipes and davul bringing medieval times to life. TABERNIS intertwine ancient tradition and dark mysticism, their haunting harmonies gifting melodies to the delicate art of beekeeping. Already having performed at major festivals like Wacken and Summer Breeze Open Air off of their debut EP, Seasons of the Dark Hive will divulge more of the band’s secrets to an ever-growing following.

Crafting captivating tunes from echoes of the past, TABERNIS explore age-old heritage with an almost other-worldly charm. Reaching out into the darkness, the duo arranges an ethereal undertow as seductive as honey. Seasons of the Dark Hive is an intoxicating experience, an alluring journey into the shadows. Amidst the bees, you are never alone. Together, we rise. Welcome to the Dark Hive.

TABERNIS about Seasons of the Dark Hive:
“The album Season of the Dark Hive came to life naturally, without ever forcing anything. We let the energies that live within us come out in an authentic way, using the keys we have at our disposal. With the support of Napalm Records, we can deliver quality work and open the world of TABERNIS to humans from all horizons. We drew from cultures and musical styles from all eras, from everything that has inspired us through the ages, while keeping our foundation: drum & bagpipe. This is only the beginning of the story. The energies of the seasons guide our lives and our strength, just as they do on this album.”

Expanding their apiary with fifteen tracks, TABERNIS weave pervasive compositions in sacred tradition. Setting the mood as the first call to the eternal dance is “Sanctus”, a summoning of voices, a rhythmic reminder of the strength in many. Following, the duo offers an array of moody instrumentals, some buoyantly buzzing (“Tenebrae”, “Sylvanot”), some pensively droning (“Noctilis”)—all of them mesmerizing. With “Mel Obscurum (Palästinalied)”, TABERNIS devote themselves to one of the most famous surviving medieval songs. Their rendition of celebrated German poet Walther von der Vogelweide’s 13th-century “Palestine Song” bestows a special historicism upon Seasons of the Dark Hive. “Hive Dance (Bransle du maître de la maison)” stands with similar history, originating from a late medieval French dance tune. The melodies, mainly conducted by only two instruments, are enriched by the subtle presence of a Dark Monk on strings and, on rare occasions, distorted whispers and the soothing humming of bustling bees, consistently conjuring a unique atmosphere. Seasons of the Dark Hive is an apicultural ritual, and TABERNIS take the lead.

Bay Area Thrash Icons HEATHEN Release Another Deep Dive Cover ‘Twist of Faith’ with Video

Bay Area Thrash icons HEATHEN release another deep dive cover of their members’ musical history to celebrate their signing to Napalm Records. The new single, “Twist of Faith”, was originally released by Psychosis in 1992 as the opening track of their album Lifeforce, featuring HEATHEN members Kragen Lum and Jason Mirza. Now that it has been “Heatheniz-ed,” the song comes as a demonstration of power in its own obscure right, for long-term fans and modern thrash enthusiasts alike.

HEATHEN about the cover:
“Let’s keep things rolling with new music for 2026! ‘Twist of Faith’ is another early 1990s era song that we gave the HEATHEN treatment. Demo collectors may have heard the original Psychosis recording of the song (with Kragen Lum on guitar and Jason Mirza on bass), but we’ve added some new elements and taken it to the next level! We have another 15 songs in various stages of production right now so enjoy the Never A God 12” Maxi Single with ‘Twist of Faith’ and get ready for the new album (and more).”

HEATHEN emerged from the San Francisco scene in 1984, leading the Bay Area thrash metal scene in their early years. Breaking The Silence (1987) and Victims Of Deception (1991) are staples of West Coast metal. After a few years of hiatus, they returned in 2001, their albums rare, but heavy-hitting – stay tuned! For now, they offer the Never A God maxi single available in exclusive formats listed below. The title track is available now!

HEATHEN about “Never A God”:
“We’re going to start this new partnership with Napalm Records off with a bang and give you something new to listen to while we continue to work on the new HEATHEN album. With that in mind, we recorded a couple of classic Bay Area Thrash tracks originally written by other bands that we played with in the early 1990s. The demo collectors out there may have heard these songs before, but they’ll be new to most of you. The first single is ‘Never A God’, originally recorded in demo form (with David White on vocals) by Laughing Dead. So, new record label, new music, new video, 12” Maxi Single pre-order, and a tour with Coroner in North America starting tomorrow. LFG!”

Exclusive Premiere for Finland: HEAVENWOOD – ‘The Lightning-Struck Tower’ Official Video

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 24, 2026

“This card bears the picture of a tower, with its battlements struck by lightning; two men, one crowned, the other uncrowned, are falling with the fragments of broken masonry” – Papus

“The Lightning-Struck Tower”, the new HEAVENWOOD single, stands as the second stone laid in the creation of the upcoming album “The Tarot Of The Bohemians – Part II”. A raw and essential piece that captures the moment where everything begins to collapse in order to be rebuilt.

Rooted in the symbolic language of the Tarot, the track embodies sudden rupture and transformation: the violent dismantling of past structures, both internal and external, where identity, belief, and illusion are struck down in a single, irreversible flash.

“This piece also symbolizes, for me, the sudden and unexpected destruction of both the best and the worst of myself – in the immaterial realm – and of the entire structure built in the past – in the material realm”, guitarist, vocalist and founder Ricardo Dias dos Santos states about the song.

Balancing introspection with an undercurrent of tension and release, “The Lightning-Struck Tower” channels Heavenwood’s signature melancholic depth into a powerful reflection on destruction as a necessary force for renewal; a moment of chaos that ultimately clears the path for transcendence.

Join the premiering here:

A whole decade after their last album, Portuguese gothic/dark metal pioneers Heavenwood announce the release of their highly-anticipated new record, “The Tarot Of The Bohemians – Part II”, set for worldwide release via Mighty Music on LP, CD and digital formats. Marking the second and final chapter of the conceptual work inspired by the hermetic writings of Gérard Encausse (Papus), the album was recorded at Lucky Cat Studio (Portugal) and mixed and mastered at Vamacara Studios (France) by acclaimed producer Niko HK Krauss (Loudblast, Sirenia), elevating the band’s sound to new levels of sophistication and intensity.

“Every work has its own story, and this new album goes far beyond being merely a concept and a continuation of the first part released in 2016″, composer, founder, guitarist and singer Ricardo Dias dos Santos comments. “Against all odds that arose in 2022 – after a near-fatal accident and imperative changes that led to a number of irreversible decisions – the conclusion of “The Tarot Of The Bohemians” finally sees the light of day, continuing a legacy that has endured for more than 30 years”.

The album is further enhanced by impeccable and symbolic visual artwork created by renowned artist Naya Kotko, whose evocative imagery perfectly reflects the esoteric depth and spiritual duality that define this new chapter.

With this “Part II” of the concept started with “The Tarot Of The Bohemians” (Massacre Records) in 2016, Heavenwood dive even deeper into the esoteric and emotional dimensions of the Tarot. This album represents both continuity and transformation – it carries Heavenwood melancholic DNA, but it also pushes the band into a more cinematic, intense and contemporary sonic realm.

“The Tarot Of The Bohemians – Part II” signals a bold new creative chapter for Ricardo Dias dos Santos. The first glimpse into this renewed cycle came with the digital single “Death”, which laid the conceptual and atmospheric foundations for the new opus.

With a career spanning over three decades, Heavenwood have long stood as one of Portugal’s most respected Metal exports. Since their seminal debut “Diva” (1996, Massacre Records) – the first album by a Portuguese Metal band to be released in Japan – the band has shared stages with international heavyweights such as Cradle of Filth, In Flames, Amorphis and Portugal’s own Moonspell, while also performing at prestigious events including Wacken Open Air.

Throughout their evolution – from “Swallow” (1998) to “Redemption” (2008) and “Abyss Masterpiece” (2011) – Heavenwood have continuously refined their signature blend of gothic atmosphere, dark metal weight and introspective lyricism. Now, under the visionary leadership of Ricardo Dias dos Santos, the band closes the 22 Major Arcana Tarot cycle with what promises to be their most ambitious and emotionally resonant work to date.

“The Tarot Of The Bohemians – Part II” will be released on black LP, blue LP (limited to 300), CD and digital formats on 12.06.2026, via Mighty Music.

Exclusive Premiere for Finland: THORIUM – ‘Abra Macabre’ Music Video

Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: THORIUM. Leave a comment

With the new single “Abra Macabre”, Danish death metal stalwarts THORIUM unveil another facet of the bleak world surrounding the upcoming album “Suburban Rot”. The track leans into a darker, more unsettling atmosphere, balancing weight and restraint while maintaining the band’s direct and uncompromising approach.

Built on a foundation of dense riffing and a persistent mid-tempo drive, “Abra Macabre” explores themes of illusion, collapse and the thin line between control and chaos. There’s a deliberate sense of tension throughout, as the band allows space for the song to unfold rather than rushing its impact. It’s the perfect album opener.

“Sometimes shit just happens, but in a good way”, guitarist JP comments about the track. “”Abra Macabre” started with the melodic theme riff that came to me when I was noodling on my guitar while watching flow TV. My first idea for it was to be a song a la Dismember’s “Dreaming in Red”, but as I got some drums done, the song took on a direction that sounded more like Carcass’ “Heartwork”. I don’t know if it’s just me who hears it this way, but one thing I’m sure of is that Johnson, our photographer, is going to love this song, so this song I dedicate to him as a thank you for many years of faithful service”.

Three decades into their career, Thorium continue to refine their sound without softening its edges. “Abra Macabre” stands as a measured but firm statement; one that reinforces the tone of the upcoming album while holding its own as a self-contained piece.

Join the premiering here:

Danish death metal unit Thorium announce the release of their seventh full-length album “Suburban Rot”, set for release on June 6th, 2026 via Emanzipation Productions. Marking 30 years of the band’s uncompromising presence in the Scandinavian underground, the album stands as their darkest and most personal work to date.

Written over an extended period, “Suburban Rot” captures a band still driven by the same anger, nerve and authenticity that defined Thorium from the very beginning – now reinforced by the depth and experience of three decades in extreme metal.

“Spend a weekend around a place like Brøndby Strand Station”, vocalist Michael Hvolgaard Andersen comments. “There is something strangely beautiful about decay, addiction, alcoholism, and broken lives that has always fascinated me. You rarely read about what things are really like in suburban station environments around Copenhagen – how destroyed the buildings are, and how damaged many people living there have become. That reality forms the foundation of the album title and several of the lyrics on “Suburban Rot”. It’s a phenomenon I’m sure people will recognize in station environments all over the world, where city centers are made more attractive while Google Street View is politely kept at a distance when it reaches the suburbs”.

Musically, “Suburban Rot” reflects both the band’s roots and the history of Danish extreme metal. Guitarist JP Storm brings the legacy of his time in Dominus – the band that later evolved into Volbeat – while guitarist Jose Cruz injects a darker, groove-driven and melodic edge shaped by his Spanish background. The rhythm section consists of drummer Daniel Preisler, active since the early 1990s and also formerly of Dominus, and bassist Jesper Nielsen, known from Psy:Code.

The current lineup is the same that recorded Thorium’s critically acclaimed 2022 album “Danmark”, which entered the official Danish Vinyl Chart at #7 and received widespread praise, including a 5/6 review in GAFFA. At the same time, it represents the longest-lasting stable lineup in the band’s history.

In recent years, Thorium have appeared at festivals such as Aalborg Metalfest, Metal Magic Festival, Raise Your Horns Festival, Death Coast Festival and Næstved Metalfest, reaffirming their position as one of the most enduring forces in Danish death metal.

“Suburban Rot” was produced by guitarist JP Storm and mixed and mastered by renowned producer Tue Madsen at Antfarm Studio, giving the album a crushing yet detailed sonic character. The artwork was created by Venezuelan artist John Quevedo Janssens, visually reflecting the record’s themes of urban decay and human collapse. Thirty years into their career, Thorium prove that their fire burns stronger than ever. And “Suburban Rot” may well be their most uncompromising statement yet.

“Suburban Rot” will be released on black LP, green LP (limited to 200), CD and digital formats on 06.06.2026, via Emanzipation Productions.

VARG Release New Live-Single ‘Blutaar’ with Official Video

With the third single from their upcoming live album, Live at Wolfszeit Festival 2024, pagan metallers VARG lead the way into darker times. “Blutaar”, the menacing title track of the studio album the band released in 2010, delves into a medieval torture method. Following a thematic classification, frontman Freki screams his lungs out in familiarly brutal form. Fueled by drums and cheering from the audience, he spreads his wings in a similarly intimidating manner as in the Viking custom he sings about—albeit the blood is swapped for deep red stage lighting. With “Blutaar”, the Coburg-based band grants an impressive look into the show recorded at their very own festival that will be released as their first live album via Napalm Records on May 22, 2026.

VARG about “Blutaar”:
“‘Blutaar’ is one of the darkest and most intense songs we ever wrote. It’s about a brutal but simultaneously captivating execution ritual. Played live, it unfolds with its very own force—more raw, more direct, and emotionally even more gripping.”

VARG gather their followers around them and call for a joint ritual: on May 22, 2026, the pagan metal band will share the recording of a special evening with their first live album, Live at Wolfszeit Festival 2024. Recorded at the group’s very own festival, it contains thrilling live versions of 16 tracks. Live at Wolfszeit Festival 2024 invites you to be part of the home match both as an audio and a video recording in Blu-ray format—filmed with 13 cameras, which makes for a particularly well-rounded live experience.

Supported by their home environment, VARG keep the flame alive and cement their leading position in the German pagan scene with Live at Wolfszeit Festival 2024. A unique demonstration of power by a band at the peak of their creative powers—at least until VARG call for the next Wolfszeit coming in August…

VARG on Live at Wolfszeit Festival 2024:
“With Live at Wolfszeit Festival 2024, we are immortalizing one of the most intense moments in our band’s history. Fire, thunderous choirs, and pure emotions merge into an atmosphere that sweeps everything away. This album is the gateway to the innermost circle of the wolf pack—and the answer to a question we always ask together: Are you with us? We are with you!”

Get Your Copy of Live at Wolfszeit Festival 2024 NOW

On their new album, VARG conduct a campaign through their discography. It begins with “Aufzug der Heere” and “Schildfront”, which were first released in 2008 on the split EP Schildfront with Minas Morgul, and leads to “Ewige Wacht”, the title track of their latest album which was released in 2023 and is their biggest chart success to date. The visually stunning atmosphere of the evening flares up in a fiery production, impressively directed by frontman Freki. Light installations pierce the darkness and amplify the ritualistic power of the show. VARG remain “Immer Treu” (engl: Always Faithful; Ewige Wacht, 2023) to their fans, who respond with enthusiastic cheers—the band’s energetic songs and devoted performance make this particularly rousing. The crystal-clear production of the live spectacle is also reflected in “Morgenrot” on which Freki’s growls and singer Fylgja harmonize particularly beautifully—the latter is also honored with the rare live gem “Fylgja” (both also Ewige Wacht, 2023). “Blutaar”, the title track of the German band’s second album released in 2010, on the other hand, strikes a harder tone, bathed in deep red light. After the ominous thematic classification, the frontman screams his head off in his usual brutal manner, fueled by drums and cheers, and spreads his wings in a similarly intimidating manner as in the Viking custom he sings about—albeit less bloody. Furthermore, the fans join VARG for “Schwertzeit” (engl. Sword Time) and “Jagd” (engl. Hunt), and declare: “Wir sind die Wölfe” (engl. We Are The Wolves) (all Wolfskult, 2011).

AIRBOURNE Announce New Self Titled Album via Letter to Lemmy & Share First Single + Video ‘Alive After Death (Last Plane Out)’

AIRBOURNE is announcing their new self-titled album in a truly original manner. See below the band’s heartfelt letter to Lemmy, sharing their journey through this album’s process and paying homage to their mentor and friend.

The announcement is accompanied by the album’s first single, “Alive After Death (Last Plane Out).” The track’s new music video is also out now!

Watch the Music Video for “Alive After Death (Last Plane Out)”:

Dear Lemmy,

Well, mate, it’s been a long time since we’ve said “g’day” or shared a stage together. We’ve never forgotten one of the things you said to us, which was: “No matter what, stay true to yourselves. Don’t worry about all the other bullshit in the music industry. Make music that your roadies will like. Because they’ve heard your shit more than anyone else, if they like it, everyone will love it.”

Mate, we did it.

Six years ago, we shut the roller doors to everyone and got to work writing songs for this record, spending many, many hours, many, many days, weeks, months, and years writing and writing, throwing things out, starting again, and always sifting for gold. After about five years of this, we felt that we had a solid bunch of Rock’n’Roll songs happening. Then, Mutt Lange and Bryan Adams brought in their big guns, and a couple of those songs we wrote with them have made the record. We wrote a lot with Bryan, and he was incredibly inspiring, and we learned a lot from him – a true rock ‘n’ roll gentleman. At that point, a long-time mate of ours, Vick Wright, flew out to Australia, and we wrote and wrote and wrote some more with him. He’s a rock ‘n’ roll street poet, and he taught us a lot as well. We ended up with some real good rockers with him.

We sent everything to Brian Howes, and he said we have a solid record now, and he was pumped to work his magic.

Dante from Spinefarm, who has been a real champion all along the way on this record, gave us the green light to make ‘Airbourne.’

We shipped out a ton of gear from our Manchester compound and from all over the world, loaded it into a semi-tonne truck, and drove it up the Eastern guts of Australia from Melbourne to Music Farm Studios, hidden in a jungle on the surf coast of Australia. This place is surrounded by snakes, Sydney funnel-web spiders, rats, and cane toads—plenty of stuff that can kill ya. We know you would have loved it there because that which doesn’t kill you only makes you louder!

We coped with hurricane weather, flash flooding rains, and palm trees that were torn out of the ground. One of them almost killed Streety, our bass player. That was a very near miss.

The tape machine was a fucker. It wouldn’t stop blowing up, but she sounded great, so she was worth dealing with and waiting on.

Every day we would wake up, jump over a brown snake or python, feed the pigs, say “g’day” to the goats, watch the one male rooster with a harem of hens swooning around him whilst he’s strutting around the place like he was King Dick. Who knew that fowl could be so inspiring?

We’d make our way down the hill to the studio, jumping over “old mate,” the resident snake that lived at the front doors of the studio. When we entered the studio, we’d make some heart-starting coffees, put some pies in the pie warmer, VB’s on ice, then Brian Howes, Mike Fraser, and Karl Dicaire would show up. A few cigarettes, laughs, and caffeine later, we’d talk some bullshit, and then we’d get rocking. For about 12-16 hours, we would go. Time ceased to exist for us, and it was the best fun we’ve ever had making an album.

The last batch of songs we wrote with Brian around the Studio Kitchen table, often whilst hurricanes had killed the power. While they were smashing the Studio together, we brought this album home.

The main console was the original Neve desk from Albert Studios 1 here in Australia, (AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, The Angels, Billy Thorpe and more), there’s an unmistakable Raw Oz rock tone in this desk, and you’d love it.

We didn’t finish the record in time, as we had to go back out on tour, which actually worked out really well because lyrics that weren’t written in that studio needed to come from being on the road, and that’s exactly what happened with the song “Alive After Death.”

We came back after the tour to our Melbourne studio home, down in St Kilda, the famous Hothouse Studios, where we recorded our first EP. We’ve always had a love affair with Hothouse—it has the Neve console from Albert’s Studio 2, so it was gutsy to go back there and finish this record off.

Craig Harnath, who we’ve been mates with forever, joined the team, and after another tour, and another few months and trips down to Hothouse, we finally finished the record.

Zakk Cervini joined the team and mixed up a Rock’n’Roll storm of a record. He’s a real weapon! Ted Jensen—aka “the great one”— gave Zakk’s atomic mixes a real supercharged spit and polish and brought it all home with his classic trademark Sterling master print that only he can do.

So, we finally ripped off the Band-Aid and mustered up the balls to play it to the roadies…. And guess what? They love this one! Thank fuck! Only took us 20 years!

Thanks again for all of your words back then, mate. We’ve never forgotten them, and we wouldn’t be here without ya. We’ll always keep you “Alive After Death.”

Rock on, Lem.

Much Love,
Joel O’Keeffe
