As new addition to its list of programs, THE PIT VOD platform presents ‘GET THRASHED’, an award winning documentary film which traces the rise, fall and impact of thrash metal; from its early years, through its influence on grunge, nu metal and today’s heavy metal scene.
It is the story of the heaviest, hardest music of the 80s and early 90s as told by the bands that lived it, the fans and bands that grew up on it and the artists that carry the “thrash metal” flag today.
The GET THRASHED journey begins in the early 80s, where Metallica and several other bands laid the groundwork for what would become a lasting impression on the face of heavy metal music. These bands helped ignite local scenes in Los Angeles, the Bay area of Northern California and New York City, which helped fuel a worldwide, thrash metal movement.
By the dawn of the 1990’s, thrash bands had gone from playing backyard BBQ parties to headlining arenas and Metallica were on their way to becoming one of the biggest metal acts of all time.
But as legions of headbanging, stage diving and moshing metalheads were flocking to see their favorite bands, the musical tides had begun to change. In the early 90’s, an evolving musical landscape sent thrash metal spiraling back into the underground. Some bands broke up, some artists returned to their day jobs and some passed away. While the music lived on, the scene was forever changed.

ABOUT JOE BONAMASSA Blues-rock superstar Joe Bonamassa is one of the most celebrated performing musicians of today. As a three-time GRAMMY-nominated artist and 13x Blues Music Award Nominee (4 wins), he achieved his 26th No. 1 album on the Billboard Blues Chart with Tales Of Time, a sprawling and expansive live concert film and album, shot at the breathtaking Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado in August 2022. Only in his mid-40s, Bonamassa has become a living legend with an astounding multi-genre catalogue. The new PATRIARCHS IN BLACK studio album “Visioning” will be released on July 19th on Metalville Records.
Former Type O Negative/ Danzig drummer Johnny Kelly and guitarist riff writer Dan Lorenzo (Hades / Non-Fiction) formed Patriarchs In Black at the end of 2021. The project included well known guests on vocals and bass including Karl Agell ( COC Blind/Lie Heavy) , Jimmy Gnecco, Dewey Bragg ( Kill Devil Hill/Bill Ward) among others. Their debut single “Demon of Regret” came out January 2022 and the full album “Reach For The Scars” was released July 1st 2022. Their 2nd album “My Veneration” was October 6th 2023 with multiple guest vocalists and bassists.
For the forthcoming 3rd studio album “Visioning” Dan Lorenzo has already written twelve new songs. Beside drummer Johnny Kelly it features again a bunch of great singers and bass players, like Dave Neabore (Dog Eat Dog), Karl Agell (Corrosion Of Confirmity), Eric Morgan (A Pale Horse Named Death), Mark Sunshine (Riotgod), Jason McMaster (Watchtower), Kyle Thomas (Exhorder) and many more.
The songs on “Visioning” combine elements of classic doom metal with modern sounds as well as excursions into hardcore/crossover.
The album was mixed and mastered at JROD Productions by Jon Cioicari.
“It’s SO fun and not putting too much pressure on singers to come up with one or two amazing lyrics and melodies a year. I write a LOT of riffs/music. Our third album came together very easily. FUN FUN FUN” says Dan.
