BEX MARSHALL Releases ‘Preaching To The Choir’ Focus Track + Music Video from New Album

On Friday March 1, 2024, British blues roots rock guitarist Bex Marshall released “Preaching To The Choir” a focus track from her new album Fortuna. Released yesterday by Dixiefrog Records, the single and the album are available on CD HERE and digital HERE.

“Preaching To The Choir reflects the sentiment of several different types of relationship all of which maintain continual problems,” says Bex.

“It’s about the unhealthy grind of a long-term relationship which has become diseased. It’s also about being sick of the same scenarios, feelings of constant disappointment, and being disrespected and lied to.  It mirrors the feelings of a personal relationship coming to an end, or the voice of a population rallying for change.”

Bex Marshall has a super abundance of smarts and edgy spirit to go along with her surety of purpose. She conjures a vocal melting pot of old black woman’s heartache and powerful gritty soul and unique guitar skills which have been labelled by other guitarists as “the goal.”

The long-awaited studio album Fortuna is a ten-track blues tapestry that bulges to the edges with addictive hooks and story lines. Bex is a writer of notability, she pushes the boundaries of blues and weaves the genre in and out of blues, funk, rock, and Americana.

Bex steps forward with this record as a leading female guitarist, producing her powerful, self-penned album with soaring lead lines, technical ragtime, and ballsy slide playing.

It’s been ten years since Bex Marshall’s last release. During this time, Bex has experienced a busy touring schedule, independently breaking into several international markets. Fortuna is an intense culmination of focus and personal release over the last few years.

Bex was able to stand still for a moment and draw in local London talented friends including Richie Stevens on drums (Tina Turner, Simply Red, George Clinton), Toby Baker on keyboards (BB King, Eric Clapton, Alexander O’Neil, Sinead O Connor), B.J Cole on Dobro (Elton John, Coldplay, Sting, Shania Twain, Robbie Williams), New York’s Robert Eugene Daniels on bass (RIP “Red Bass”) Aurora Mannola on bass, London’s gospel Queen Shola Adegoroye, and legendary Danny Bryan on percussion (Taj Mahal).

After a week-long intense recording session at Snakepit Studios in North London, Fortuna was created. It’s an album of soulful rock blues, with funky undertones with touches of gospel and roots. The album was engineered, co-produced and mastered by Nick Hunt (Dave Stewart, Boy George, Placebo, George Clinton) who Bex has worked with on her previous album House of Mercy.

“I have been influenced by multiple artists,” says Bex. “For me it never stops. Songwriters, vocalists, and guitarists – you name it!

“I grew up listening to Tina Turner. Vocally, she was my heroine. Her tone, soul, and vocal range was so versatile. Other influences include Eric Clapton’s cool guitar style, John Lee Hooker’s back porch flavour, Freddie King’s sting, Hose Feliciano’s flair, Janis Joplin’s ragtime, and Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s songwriting. I was lucky as my uncle had a stunning vinyl collection, and I was able to absorb all these relevant box ticking blues rock greats.”

“She’s mastered the art of making new material sound like it’s been found in long forgotten vaults,” says Net Rhythms. Bex holds a songwriting retreat twice a year in Cyprus and believes that “bad songwriting is affecting the quality of our suffering.”

The album’s lyrical content touches on the all too familiar addictions of life, from love to liquor, changes in society and bitter regret. The album features nine original tracks, one being an instrumental and one cover.

“The album is where I am today musically and philosophically and reflective of the performer I am now,” says Bex. “I wanted to take the hard lumps out of life, and present them back in a different light, sometimes with humor, sarcasm, or resilience but always with a shed load of tenacity. I wanted to make a record with iconic guitar sounds, heavenly funky keyboards, roots infected vocal lines with the funk in the trunk. The album is the most upbeat offering from me to date and I want to produce a show of high energy blues rock euphoria to reignite people’s mojos.”

During lockdown Bex’s good friend and bass player “Red Bass” (aka Robert Eugene Daniels) was living in London with us and after a few months sadly passed away. She was lucky enough to capture some of his bass lines in Snakepit Studios. Bex recorded demos for the album and finally used them in five of the 10 album tracks. “Red was a unique musician,” reflects Bex. “I was honoured to play music with him for over 20 years. We even shared the same birthday.”

The final track of the record is called “When It’s Gone” it’s a poignant song although written several years earlier, BJ Cole (Tiny Dancer, Coldplay) plays dobro on this track as a tribute to “Red.”

Finnish modern melodic metal band Northern Genocide released their second studio album The Point of No Return on March 1st 2024 via Inverse Records.

LISTEN to the album on streaming services: https://push.fm/fl/ng-album

Comments from the band:
“We are proud and honored to finally present this thematical melodic sledgehammer to our listeners. Great pools of sweat and tears were spilled during the making of this album and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. We always push for something new when making music and to us this album is a milestone in our lives.

The lyrical themes are more relevant than ever and reflect this age of uncertainty and turmoil. We encourage everyone to dive deep into the songs and try to find the meaning of words or sentences. This is the point of no return.

We’d like to thank everyone who has supported us and listened to our music during the past years! See you on one of our live gigs!”

  10. Necropolis feat. Tommy Tuovinen

Northern Genocide was established in 2010 in Helsinki, Finland. It all started with a meeting of old high school friends, guitar player Pyry Pohjanpalo and producer Rainer Pekkinen, after Pyry had discovered Rainer’s interest in programming and computer music. They both had a history of playing in various metal bands, but now they wanted to try something different by bringing electronic influences to metal. The very same year they started recording demos in their home studio.

In 2012 a crew was put together for gigs and new demos. In december 2013 the band began recording a new 3-track demo. After some changes to the initial line-up of the band, the demo was recorded with Markku Tuuri in drums, Toni Jokiranta in bass, Pyry in guitars and Tommi Salonen as vocalist. The demo “Atlantis” was finished in October 2014. Shortly after work began towards a 5-track EP ”Planet Asylum” which was released in 2015.

2019 the debut album “Genesis vol. 666” was released through Inverse Records. The release was a success, and the only song written in Finnish, called Ikiruoste, proved to be a guiding star of the album. The style of NG’s music had already started to evolve away from the industrial metal influenced sound towards more modern melodic metal. Genesis, Vol. 666 album recently reached 1 Million streams on Spotify.

In 2020 began the work towards releasing another full length album. During the long cold winter a few band members moved aside, resulting in Jussi Pulliainen taking the 2nd guitar role and Arto Viitanen picking up the bass guitar. An epic discovery was Leo Korhonen to play the drums. With just 1 month of practice he mastered his parts ready to be recorded for the album.

The new album ”The Point of No Return” was finally finished in the summer of 2023. The process of making the new album was long but it surely paid off. This time no compromises were accepted in the production process and the album surely presents the best of NG to date. The new ideas and the combined effort of the whole band resulted in a solid, banging and rich album. The album picks up where ”Genesis vol. 666” left off featuring even more aggressive guitar riffs and massive orchestrations. The contribution from various featuring vocalists (Stephanie Mazor, Tommy Tuovinen) and instrumentalists adds depth to the songs throughout the album. Lyrics written by Tommi criticize world overpopulation, corruption, abuse of power and describe the dark side of the human mind.

The album is released on March 1st 2024 through Inverse Records and CD version is available HERE.

During the bleak and desolate year of 2020, a new creative entity was born within the darkness. Necrophobic guitar duo Sebastian Ramstedt and Johan Bergebäck teamed up with Dutch drummer Marco Prij of Cryptosis to forge brooding and precise sonic hostility under the moniker of IN APHELION.

After releasing a number of singles, the ‘Luciferian Age’ EP (2021), debut album ‘Moribund’ (2022), and welcoming bassist Tobias Cristiansson to the lineup, the formation took the natural next step and have now joined forces with Century Media Records, which is already home to NECROPHOBIC and CRYPTOSIS.

IN APHELION is now gearing up to release their sophomore full-length, ‘Reaperdawn,’ for which more details and new music will be revealed this summer!

Stay tuned…!

Lineup:
Johan Bergebäck – guitars
Tobias Cristiansson – bass
Marco Prij – drums

AVRALIZE Release New Single ‘Overdose’ And Announce Debut Album “Freaks”

German metalcore quartet Avralize have dropped a new single titled ‘OVERDOSE’, and announced the release of new album FREAKS, out 22nd March via Arising Empire.

Stream / pre-order here: https://arisingempire.com/freaks

Fronted by vocalist Severin Sailer, guitarist Philipp Tenberken, drummer Bastian Gölz and bass player Valentin Noack; Avralize‘s debut album showcases their compelling fusion of artistic elegance, heavy deathcore components, and captivating futuristic sounds that promise to take fans on a journey to otherworldly realms.

Many worlds come together. A mix of vibe, technique and artistic creativity meets destructive breakdowns, provoking guitar riffs and catchy choruses. With finesse, the four guys from South Germany strike the perfect balance between the brutality of the deliberately-used deathcore elements while incorporating a massive production and exciting grooves that you just want to dance to. Avralize stands for perception through sound.

The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Manuel Renner: renowned producer who has worked on some critically acclaimed albums with acts such as Our Promise, Senna, Consvmer and many more.

Severin (vocals) states: “Releasing Freaks is a wake-up call for all the people out there who feel lost, rejected, and abnormal. Nothing is “normal”, nothing is “right” or “wrong”. We live in a world full of rules, but who has the right to set these rules? They exist subconsciously and can grow into walls with just one disapproving glance. Walls that hold us back from expressing ourselves and finding our true selves.“

FREAKS track list:
01. LOTUS
02. HIGHER
03. BRIGHT
04. STAB BY STAB
05. CANVAS
06. ALIVE
07. OVERDOSE
08. FREAKS

Having shared the stage with scene heavyweights like Ghostkid, Novelists, Paleface and Of Virtue, the group quickly established a reputation for their energetic live show that turns their crowds into a giant party on a regular basis. Despite their relatively short time as a band since their formation, Avralize have already performed at established festivals like Southside, Hurricane and RockXplosion.

Catch Avralize live:
Mar 30: DE Bietigheim-Bissingen Club 4D
Mar 31: DE Oberndorf am Neckar Neckarhalle

South African CHARLES EAST to Release New EP “I Am Your Consequence” on March 28th

Posted by tarjavirmakari on March 2, 2024
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: CHARLES EAST. Leave a comment

“I Am Your Consequence” is the first on-label release by South African piano doom / experimental artist and singer-songwriter CHARLES EAST.

The EP will be released on March 28, 2024 on digital, and will precede the release of a full length album in physical format scheduled for Autumn 2024.

“I Am Your Consequence”
sees CHARLES EAST delivering a phenomenally powerful performance, creating a musical amalgam that is both visceral and funereal, and elegantly combining his fantastically nuanced piano music with a mix of Post-Punk, Goth Rock and Doom Metal.

The EP is a fantastic showcase of talent and personality – simultaneously gloomy and assaulting, spasmodically shifting from tender to desperate to furious, evoking all sorts of shadows to rise between the sparse and desperate chords of a lamenting piano, to then explode in fits of rage and anger.

Thematically, East’s music addresses darker themes ranging from intolerance, isolation, and obsession to self-loathing and the agony of life.

Profoundly meditative and introspective piano / doom music for fans of Chelsea Wolfe, Diamanda Galas, Eva O.

Tracklist:

1 I Am Your Consequence (3:50)
2 Drain (7:37)

Credits:

Music and lyrics by Charles East
Guitars: Jo Ellis
Drums: Christian Burgess
Piano and vocals: Charles East
Produced, mixed and mastered by Jo Ellis at Blue Room Studios
Artistic direction: Evokaos (Brucia Records)
