”Musically, the song is inspired by all these great bands from 70’s and 80’s. We’re all big fans of bands like Aerosmith, KISS, and Guns N’ Roses, and we wanted to embrace those influences in this song.” –Roni, guitarist / Jo Below

”The lyrics are about the power struggle in a relationship. The song tells a story of bitterness, jealousy, and the desire to own somebody.” –Johanna, singer / Jo Below

Jo Below’s upcoming EP, ’New Worlds’, consists of five killer songs that showcase the group’s vast array of influences, from Fleetwood Mac-inspired acoustic pop to modern American-style hard rock. The EP will be released on March 15th, 2024 via Inverse Records.

COUNTING HOURS – Feat. Members of Shape Of Despair – Premiere New Video ‘Away I Flow’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on January 25, 2024

Finnish dark metal torchbearers COUNTING HOURS, featuring current and former members of SHAPE OF DESPAIR, RAPTURE, IMPALED NAZARENE, COLOSSEUM and THE CHANT, will release their sophomore album “The Wishing Tomb” on February 23rd 2024 via Ardua Music.

Today, the band is releasing the new single “Away I Flow”, exclusively premiered by Decibel Magazine. Watch the video HERE.

The album’s first single, “Timeless Ones”, is available at THIS LOCATION.

Three years after their critically acclaimed debut “The Will” and almost a quarter of a century after their first endeavour together, RAPTURE‘S doom death seminal landmark “Futile”, guitarists Jarno Salomaa and Tomi Ullgrén (both of them also members of funeral doom legends SHAPE OF DESPAIR) are back with their haunting and otherworldly twin-guitar harmonies on the sophomore release of COUNTING HOURS “The Wishing Tomb”.

On yet another surprising expansion of their signature sound, the Finns continue building a set of colossal and unforgettable melodies using unnerving and gazing grooves as the backbone of their compositions, only to be intertwined with the emotional vocals of singer Ilpo Paasela (of THE CHANT fame), culminating in what will be one of the gloomiest yet, oddly enough, most memorable releases of the year. Nine songs of bleakness and hopeless melodies that will be stuck in your minds for the rest of your hopeless life…the true masters of nordic melancholy are back!

Tracklist:

1. Unsung, Forlorn
2. Timeless Ones
3. Away I Flow
4. All That Blooms (Needs To Die)
5. Starlit / Lifeless
6. The Wishing Tomb
7. No Closure
8. A Mercy Fall
9. This Well Of Failures

Line-up:

Ilpo Paasela – Vocals
Jarno Salomaa Petrushevski – Electric & Acoustic guitars
Tomi Ullgren – Electric Guitars
Markus Forsström – Bass
Sameli Köykkä – Drums

Keyboards by Jussi Hämäläinen
Backing vocals by Pekka Loponen, Jussi Hämäläinen & Riikka Hatakka

Pop rock duo FLOYA have released their new single ‘Lights Out’ – the first song they wrote and recorded as a band. The track is taken from their upcoming debut album Yume, which will be released on 8th March via Arising Empire.

Stream ‘Lights Out’ here: https://arisingempire.com/lightsout

Guitarist Marv Wilder comments on the track:
“We were jamming somewhere in Norway when we stumbled upon the main riff of the song. Phil went straight into the recording booth and laid down some sketches, it was very natural. I feel like ‘Lights Out’ is an homage to our musical roots, we were very different people when we wrote that one. Lyrically it’s probably the darkest one we did, but the topic it tackles is so important. It’s an amazing feeling to now release it after all this time, it’s very humbling.”

‘Lights Out’ shines as a standout track on FLOYA‘s electrifying debut album Yume. The album features the band’s recent singles, which have acted as compelling glance into their musical excellence. It’s a collection of songs that promise to ignite your senses.

Pre-order Yume here: https://arisingempire.com/yume

Hailing from Germany, Marv Wilder and Phil Bayer found common ground by talking about their childhood influences, namely Peter Gabriel, U2 & Sting.

Since the release of their debut single ‘Wonders’ in March 2022, FLOYA have amassed over eight million streams on Spotify alone. Their single ‘The Hymn’ was featured in an official AFL game between Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs on Australian television; an impressive achievement for a newly launched act. FLOYA have also received significant airplay from Kerrang! Radio (UK) and Radio Contact (BE).

FLOYA are:
Phil Bayer | vocals
Marv Wilder | guitar

MARK DALY Kicks Off U.S. Tour in Support of MR. BIG, New Single Coming on February 2nd

Mark Daly is kicking off 2024 with new music and a new tour. The Irish rocker launches a three-week U.S. tour this week in direct support of the rock supergroup Mr. Big. Daly will support the band for seven shows in the Midwest and Northeast, while also headlining his own shows, including a marquee performance February 8, at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. See full dates below.

To coincide with the tour, Daly will release his new single “I Wanna Be More” on February 2. The single is the first track from his new album Devil’s Arms– due for release this spring via One Opportunity Records – and will be available on all streaming platforms. A limited-edition CD pressing of the album will be available on tour. The album is produced by Brian Virtue, best known for his work with Audioslave, Jane’s Addiction, 30 Seconds to Mars, and Deftones, and includes a duet with Dead Sara frontwoman Emily Armstrong.

Hailing from Cork, Ireland, Daly is no newcomer to American soil, having completed numerous domestic tours with heavyweights including Candlebox, Queensrÿche, and Queensrÿche’s former frontman, Geoff Tate. His current run kicks off Thursday, January 25, with a headlining show at Belle and the Bear, in Cincinnati, OH, and is highlighted by his West Point show, and a New York City performance with Mr. Big on February 6 at Sony Hall.

“As a rock musician from Ireland, it feels surreal to me that I’m about to embark on another incredible tour in the USA,” says Daly. “It blows my mind that I will not only be the special guest of a band I grew up listening to – Mr. Big – but we’ll also have our own headline shows in America for the first time. This really is a dream come true.”

I cannot wait for everyone to hear what I believe is our best work to date,” says Daly of the music on Devil’s Arms. “I could not be more excited about the new music we recently recorded in El Paso, Texas at Sonic Ranch Studios with the incredible Brian Virtue as our producer. It’s music that I am ridiculously proud of.”

Devil’s Arms is the follow-up to his maxi-single Drop Dead, which came on the heels of his debut solo EP Nothing to Lose. Daly’s music is gritty, raw and energetic. His post-grunge and classic rock influences combine to create his dynamic signature modern-rock sound.

Mark was first discovered while performing in his band The Voodoos in Spain. During one of their shows, music manager Brian Message (Radiohead, Nick Cave) was in the crowd and requested that Mark play some original songs. Brian decided to bring the band to London to record their first EP. It was in this defining moment that Mark decided to become a full-time musician and never looked back.

One early highlight in Mark’s career was performing at the MTV EMA Awards with The Voodoos after beating out 10,000+ bands from Europe for the slot. From there, Mark and the band began to tour throughout Europe and the USA. Mark’s first venture as a solo artist hit N0. 1 on the Scottish New Music Charts. Inspired by his son, Noah, the track “Your World” was written for an autism awareness charity.

“I absolutely love everything about being on the road – meeting so many incredible people each night, getting lost in the music on stage. It’s pure magic,” says Daly.
