Rock and blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter Philip Sayce has delivered a sonic attack with the release of his new single, “Oh! That Bitches Brew.” The blistering track is released today, Friday 29th September and is available on all streaming services HERE. Watch the official music video HERE.

“Oh! That Bitches Brew” is Philip’s first new music in three years. This is the first of a slew of activities for Philip in 2023, including tour dates and more new music. Released on Sayce’s label, Atomic Gemini, with exclusive license to Forty Below Records.

“Oh! That Bitches Brew” is also the first single from Philip’s highly anticipated new album, “The Wolves Are Coming,” released February 23rd, 2024.

The album is available to pre-order HERE.

Philip’s new album is more powerful, unique, and brash than anything he has written or recorded to date. “These songs and stories came into focus during my darkest times,” says Philip. “The Wolves Are Coming” represents a bridge — a connection between despair and hope — that invites broken spirits to be transformed and healed.”

“The Wolves Are Coming”
follows the album “Spirit Rising” which has over 13 million streams to date. It is a career highlight, exemplifying Sayce’s commitment to his craft and using the power of music as a uniting force to welcome in the light during incredibly turbulent times.

On the new album, songs like “Oh! That Bitches Brew” and “Backstabber” hit like hurricanes, while “Lady Love Divine” explores the light in contrast to darkness with an uplifting, foot-stomping, funk groove that delivers hooks in all the right places. Ballads like “It’s Over Now” and the magical instrumental “Intuition” round out Sayce’s signature fuzz tones and sledgehammer mountain-sized drum grooves with delicate, intimate, and dynamic performances.

The bold and brash performance on “Oh! That Bitches Brew” turns out to be a musical interpretation of a memory that came flooding back to Philip one day.

“The song came together quite quickly one evening,” recalls Philip. “I was sitting on the couch and started playing the riff that became the song’s main riff. I dug it and thought, ‘What am I going to say about this? Oh, I know, I remember that time someone gave me a drink at a party called “The Bitches Brew”, and it totally fucked me up.’ And that’s what the song became.  It came together in about ten minutes.”

Produced by Philip at Station House Studio in Los Angeles, the track, engineered by GRAMMY award winner Mark Rains (Rival Sons, Shooter Jennings, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club), mixed by Brian Moncarz (Fantastic Negrito, Alice Cooper, Ian Moore), and mastered by Brian Lucey (Lizzo, The Black Keys, Michael Bublé) features Michael Leasure (Walter Trout, Edgar Winter) on drums, with Philip providing the guitars, bass, and vocals.

From a young age Sayce began touring internationally, first with Jeff Healey’s band, performing at the world’s most prestigious festivals. Shortly after, Sayce began recording and touring for four years with musical icon Melissa Etheridge, including performances at The Oscars and The Grammys, before launching a solo career and establishing a rabid fan base in Europe and beyond, opening shows for the likes of ZZ Top and Deep Purple. Sayce is a rare artist, a combination of outstanding songwriter, unparalleled guitarist, soulful singer, and electrifying performer.

In April 2020, Philip released “Spirit Rising,” his seventh full-length album. The timing couldn’t have been worse.  The release coincided with the reality that the Covid pandemic was going to take its toll on the concert tour business and seriously limit promotional appearances that would traditionally follow the release of a new album. Undaunted, Philip turned to Instagram and built on the relationship with his fans. He began posting daily videos that showcased his explosive and emotive playing, increasing his following by over 300%, and without touring, promotional visits, or radio play, Spirit Rising has eclipsed 13 million streams on Spotify alone – a remarkable feat for any independent blues rock artist.

Born in Wales and raised in Toronto, Canada, Philip’s love of the guitar started at an early age when his parents introduced him to all of the greats, notably Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins, Albert King, Freddie King, Jeff Beck, and Jeff Healey. As a teen guitar phenom, Philip was plucked from the Toronto blues scene by the legendary Jeff Healey, who took the young guitarist under his wing and showed him the ropes, touring the world and recording as a member of Healey’s band.

In the early 2000s, a move to LA landed Philip a gig with Melissa Etheridge, which included numerous recording contributions, including the Oscar-winning “I Need To Wake Up”. While Philip’s time with Melissa Etheridge was jammed with touring, recording, and television appearances, he was able to find some time to get himself in the studio to record his first solo album, “Peace Machine.” Buoyed by guitar fans’ response to the album, Philip turned his attention to his full-time solo artist career, and subsequent releases garnered high praise in both the blues, rock, and guitar worlds. He has since released six studio albums as well as the incendiary live “Scorched Earth, Vol. 1.”

Philip Sayce has a full schedule of tour dates on the calendar through the rest of 2023, including a number of North American dates and a long-overdue and eagerly anticipated return to the UK and Europe. Joining Philip on the road are drummer Bryan Head (Roger Hodgson, Foreigner) and bassist Sam Bolle (Agent Orange, Donavon Frankenreiter), both of whom have played live dates with Philip for the past few years after having cut their teeth together as Dick Dale’s rhythm section.

“We are incredibly proud to announce the first batch of bands for Beyond the Gates 2024. We say this every time, but we do promise that next year is going to be something you’ve never experienced before. On the back of that statement, please welcome the juggernaut that is Behemoth. The band hasn’t played in Bergen since 2012, so their return is much welcomed. We’re also very excited to be able to present Satyricon, who is releasing a new album next spring, and will return to the live scene for the first time in five years!

“Founders and innovators Venom and Watain will also grace Beyond the Gates with a visit next year with their spectacular and energetic live shows.

“Moving on, Trelldom, featuring the iconic singer Gaahl, who will do their first live appearance ever since their formation in the early 90s. Vreid will celebrate 30 years of Sognametal, while Norwegian black metalers Djevel and Dødheimsgard will grant us with exclusive sets.

“Completing the first round of names are the Czech’s Cult of Fire with their massive live show, the mysterious Darkspace from Switzerland and Polish Manbryne, who will do their first concert outside of their home country.

“As always, the festival will be stacked with numerus activities you can experience in addition to the live concerts: Guided tours, fairs, market and so forth.”

Back in August, thousands of metalheads descended on the black metal mecca and witnessed legendary metal performances across several venues, including the legendary Grieghallen, where many seminal Norwegian black metal albums were recorded in the 90s. Highlights included a blistering performance of Eld in its entirety by Enslaved, demolishing sets from Norwegian heavy-weights such as Taake and Gorgoroth, a rare and devatstaing performance from Nidrosian black metal enigma Mare, and of course, a rare and special 30th anniversary set by Dimmu Borgir, who broke out songs that haven’t been played in decades!

In addition to the mind-blowing performances, attendees were also treated to a wealth of once-in-a-lifetime events including wine tasting with Gaahl, a special photo exhibition from iconic black metal photographer Peter Beste, a tour of Grieghallen with legendary producer Pytten (where he recorded seminal albums such as Enslaved’s Vikingligr Veldi, Frost and Eld, the first two Emperor albums, In the Nightside Eclipse and Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, Gorgoroth’s Pentagram  and Antichrist,  Mayhem’s De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, and Immortal’s Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism, Battles in the North), guided tours of black metal landmarks with Tore Bratseth (Old Funeral, The Batallion,  Bömbers), a Dimmu Borgir exhibition hosted by Finn Håkon Rødland, a live taping of Alan Averill’s ‘Agitator’s Anonymous’ podcast, artist talks, and so much more!

Since the inception of the Beyond the Gates festival, fans have been coming to Bergen to see performances of their favorite Norwegian artists in their home environment. As most visitors know, nature and local culture has always been a poignant source of inspiration for the bands emerging from the Bergen scene. Yet again, Beyond the Gates will give all of the traveling fans the opportunity to get an unique insight into all aspects of the Norwegian Metal scene and the local culture in general. In that regard, we’re putting together a series of events before and during the festival so that all of you can discover what inspired – and still does – the Norwegian metal scene.

In addition, there will be exclusive listening parties, music and culture panels, in-depth live interviews, and a wealth of of events and activities that will give you a Beyond the Gates Experience that will last for a lifetime. Stay tuned for more…

EARTHSIDE Release New Track & Video ‘Pattern of Rebirth’ Ft. AJ Channer

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 29, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: EARTHSIDE. Leave a comment
Photo: Justin Borucki

Cinematic rockers EARTHSIDE reveal the official video for their mesmerising new song, “Pattern of Rebirth” featuring AJ Channer of Fire From The Gods on vocals – taken from their upcoming new album ‘Let The Truth Speak,’ which will be released on 17 November via Music Theories Recordings / Mascot Label Group. You can watch the video for “Pattern of Rebirth,” HERE.

“Pattern of Rebirth” comes shortly after Jamie van Dyck from Earthside announced he was being treated for testicular cancer. Jamie’s operation went well, and he is currently in recovery ahead of their two European performances at Euroblast Festival and Progpower Europe.

Unlike the other songs from the album, for the first time in the band’s discography, Earthside gave free rein to one of their talented guest vocalists — Fire From The Gods’ poignant frontman AJ Channer — to compose all the melodies and write all the lyrics. Apart from the tiniest input from Earthside’s members in response to AJ’s initial draft, this is essentially AJ’s unadulterated creative response to hearing the band’s in-progress instrumental. What resulted was a cathartic and unexpected take, with AJ processing the grief of losing his dad and even singing from the vantage of his late father.

Talking about the track AJ Channer says, “I am huge fan of prog bands and when this collab was presented I had to jump on it. I want to send mad love to Earthside for their genius and allowing me to express myself on this track. This one was for my Dad; a real OG and top shotta. One love.”

While the band originally felt that “Pattern of Rebirth” didn’t fit on this album in its instrumental form, once AJ had written and recorded his vocal part, the universality of the themes that he confronts in channelling his dad give a perspective beyond the group’s own that fits in the broader context of the human experience and seeking truth.

“In fully passing the mic to AJ, so to speak,” van Dyck says of the decision to reach out to Channer and let him compose all the songs’ vocal parts, “he’s a socially conscious soul who passionately takes a stand without taking a side. He’s a unifier, and he will call out BS or injustice no matter who’s in the wrong or who’s being wronged. And in addition to us loving the warmth and character of his voice in his work with Fire From The Gods, we felt conviction in inviting his message into our music and the greater message of this album.”

From the album they have already revealed the official videos for the epic title track Let the Truth Speak, which features TesseracT’s Daniel Tompkins as well as the incredible voice of Gennady Tkachenko-Papiz along with We Who Lament featuring vocalist Keturah.  All We Ever Knew And Ever Loved  features Baard Kolstad of Leprous and was mixed by Randy Staub, who worked on Metallica’s S&M album.  The video won the award for Best Music Video at the United Artist International Film Festival and was selected to be screened at a number of film festivals – Horrorcon UK, Oxford Shorts, UAIFF, Dam Short Film Festival, Animiest, Rhode Island International film festival and more.

8 long years removed from their critically show-stopping entrance – A Dream in Static [2015] – the idealistic thinkers and feelers in Earthside found themselves in a different world entirely … or, perhaps, a world more honest and unhinged than they and many others had bargained for.

“This album almost destroyed our lives and friendships,” keyboardist and co-orchestrator Frank Sacramone confides. “It’s insanity, but it is beautiful.”

“A Dream In Static was more of an *I* album,” reflects guitarist and orchestrator Jamie van Dyck. “Each of us in our own way was engaging topics of self-actualization and the fear of never quite becoming. Let The Truth Speak, however, turns its focus to the *We*.”

If truth is so important—so hallowed that we hold it as perhaps our most sacred tenet—then why do we go to such great lengths to deny it the moment it makes us uncomfortable, or goes against our narrative?

Earthside are Jamie van Dyck [Guitars, backing vocals, programming, keyboards], Ben Shanbrom [drums, backing vocals], Frank Sacramone [Keyboards, synthesizers, programming, percussion, guitar] and Ryan Griffin [Bass, backing vocals].

It’s time for a new generation of heavy metal. GENERATION STEEL is a band ready to take on the legacy of metal heroes. The Teutonic metallers’ new album is titled “Lionheart” and will be released on October 27th, 2023 by EL PUERTO RECORDS. Video “Bloodrage” – www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDBcwmGBmfU

Ready to break the shackles? Dive into “Lionheart” and experience the true essence of Heavy Metal!

In addition to the powerful riffs and the rousing choruses, “Lionheart” impresses above all with profound lyrics that deal with the complex prisons in which we all sometimes feel trapped. Uwe Lulis was again in charge of production, the artwork was created by Gyula Havancsák.

Pre-Order “Lionheart”

“Lionheart” takes us into a world where artists explore the limits of the human psyche. Through powerful lyrics and emotional vocals, they penetrate the deepest layers of our soul. The lyrics reflect the inner imprisonment that can arise from self-accusation and uncontrollable emotions. But the album is not just a dark journey into the depths of human existence; it is also a passionate call for departure.

GENERATION STEEL are self-confident: The aim of the new album was to make the songs even more interesting and dynamic, to deliver clever arrangements and to top it off on the first album.

Tracklist “Lionheart”

01. Baptized in Sorrow
02. Bloodrage
03. Lionheart
04. Executor
05. Wastelands
06. The Lost and the Damned
07. Forevermore
