ABOUT NOTHING MORE

Rock audiences count NOTHING MORE among the most cherished acts, the kind of band who straddle the line between populism and intimacy with every performance. The San Antonio, Texas-born quartet builds unapologetically massive anthems from catchy hooks. Crowd-pleasers clear a path for heady, confessional, thought-provoking emotionalism. Fresh rewards reveal themselves with repeat listens, welcoming like-minded seekers with rich melodicism, like the best of Deftones or Tool.

Those who saw the band on tour with hard rock heavyweights like Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, and Disturbed will attest to what The Guardian observed: “There’s a sophistication to NOTHING MORE’s angst that raises them above the tumult-tossed pit.”

Kerrang! named NOTHING MORE one of 22 Artists Shaping the Future of Rock, alongside Nine Inch Nails, Twenty One Pilots, and Bring Me The Horizon. And frontman Jonny Hawkins, who met guitarist Mark Vollelunga before they were old enough to drive, appeared with Billie Joe Armstrong, Dave Grohl, and Hayley Williams in the English tastemaker’s Top 50 Greatest Rockstars in the World.

HEARTS & HAND GRENADES Unleash Raging Fire in New Music Video & Single ‘Burn (By My Fire)’, New Album Drops January 26th

Hearts & Hand Grenades are an explosive American hard rock group from Buffalo, NY, bursting with an edgy sound for all generations of true rock addicts, and they just premiered a new music video and single entitled “Burn (By My Fire)“. The band have also announced the availability of pre-orders for their upcoming full-length album Where I Begin which is scheduled to be released on January 26, 2024 via Eclipse Records. The album was engineered by Justin Rose at GCR Audio, mixed & mastered by Jeremy Tabor at Triple Zero Music, and the music video was directed by Nick Sonricker.

“With our first single off the new album being such a powerful track, we wanted the video to make an impact” says lead vocalist & bassist Stephanie Wlosinski, “so we felt what better way to launch our third full length album than arriving back on the scene with raging fire, which also symbolizes that the band is here to stay!” Guitarist Mike Bress continues, “This was a challenging shoot for us because we never shot a music video synced with another video on a giant screen before. It was a very interesting process of bringing it to life, and our director Nick Sonricker was fantastic to work with. He came up with some great ideas to make the video pop? We did the shoot at The Palace Theater in Hamburg, NY but we had numerous technical difficulties playing along with the video on the big screen. It was dark in the room, and we almost fell off the stage a couple of times. The stage lights were also very difficult to work with because they were so bright that they were blinding. This also caused the temperature in the room to increase drastically. We lost a few pounds of water weight during the shoot as a result, but Nick took extra measures to keep us safe, and despite the dangers he was able to make sure the end result was all worth it!”

The new album by Hearts & Hand Grenades is entitled Where I Begin and the record is a blast of sass and attitude! The album takes us on a journey through the toxic politics of love and relations, tearing us up, rending us raw, leaving us burning to cinders. That’s when we rise from the ashes and drown the whole damn forest fire in a thunderous squall, the music and lyrics coursing through us like sonic rip currents in the bloodstream of a savage with a battle hatchet. Listen to the songs and you will walk taller, shout louder, drive faster, love harder. The hard groove of the guitar work and percussion is  based on clever riffs and heavy, addictive hooks appealing to classic rockers, 80s metalheads, 90s grunge-lovers, and enthusiasts who reveled in the post 2000s’ resurgence of hard-ass rock meant for bars and arenas, rock rooms, saloons, theaters and festivals, rock ‘til you drop. Moreover, bassist and vocalist Stephanie Wlosinski puts on a clinic for instrumental groove-sense and glorious power-singing over an enormous guitar sound and drumming that is way more than satisfying. Where I Begin was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Jeremy Tabor at Triple Zero Music, and the art was created by 119 Design. Where I Begin will be released on January 26, 2024 by Eclipse Records.

FOGHAT Release Single + Video ‘She’s A Little Bit Of Everything’

FOGHAT present “She’s A Little Bit Of Everything”, the second single from the upcoming studio album “Sonic Mojo” which will be released exclusively in Europe on November 10th via Metalville Records.

“She’s A Little Bit Of Everything” is a classic blues rocker that goes straight to your legs from the first bar and eats into your auditory canals. The distinctive voice of new singer and guitarist Scott Holt, lush guitar riffs and a grooving beat form the ingredients for another fan favourite in typical FOGHAT sound garb.

The song was co-written by Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown, a good friend of FOGHAT, sending the lyrics and some basic tracks before Kim sadly passed away in December 2022.

“Sonic Mojo”, the first new studio album in seven years, offers exactly what the loyal FOGHAT fan base has come to expect from their favourite band.

From the first notes of their 1972 self-titled classic, through their bombastic multi-platinum gem “Foghat Live” (1977) and 2016’s slide guitar-drenched “Under The Influence”, to their forthcoming album “Sonic Mojo”, FOGHAT have always been all about the music. Music that is played loud. Music that is played live. Music that makes you want to move.

“Sonic Mojo” was recorded by founding member and drummer Roger Earl, his longtime FOGHAT companions guitarist Bryan Bassett (Wild Cherry, Molly Hatchet) and Rodney O’Quinn (Pat Travers Band) on bass, and with new singer and guitarist Scott Holt (Buddy Guy).

Three of the songs on “Sonic Mojo” have a special meaning for Roger Earl, as they were co-written with Kim Simmonds, the man who helped Roger to his breakthrough as a member of Savoy Brown in 1967. Sadly, Kim passed away shortly after writing these songs in December 2022.

On their new album, FOGHAT also tip their hat to legendary artists who came before them, such as Willie Dixon, B.B. King or Chuck Berry, among others, with some great cover versions.

G.U.S.H. Debut Second Single ‘Down the Drain’

Emerging grunge trio G.U.S.H. is leading the charge in 90s’ grunge revival, calling to a very specific nostalgia familiar to kids who grew up during the heydays of MTV and Nickelodeon. The alt-rockers are now debuting the gritty second new single, “Down the Drain,” which can be found HERE.

G.U.S.H. songwriter Roger LeBlanc comments on the deep meaning behind the song, “‘Down the Drain’ is an exploration of grief through the suicide of one of my closest friends. It’s a conversation that I never got to have with him and explores the guilt I will always feel for not being there when it mattered most. I miss you immensely Chev. If you or anyone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide please contact (In Canada) TALK SUICIDE CANADA: #1(833)456-4566 and (In USA) Suicide and Crises Hotline: #988.”

Currently, G.U.S.H. is an independent D.I.Y. act and is gearing up to reveal their debut self-titled full-length, for which more info will soon be announced!

The artwork for G.U.S.H.’s eponymous debut was created by Matthew Springer and can be found below along with the tracklist.

Tracklist:
01: I Hate Myself (5:00) [WATCH]
01: Needy ( 4:16)
03: You Know Me (3:18)
04: Meat Locker (3:54)
05: Down The Drain (4:23) [LISTEN]
06: Animal Face (3:37)
07: Alcohol (4:10)
08: Starburst (4:17)
09: We Are (5:39)
Full album running time: 37:14

The 90s’ was the last decade to champion alternative music; grunge topped the charts as glam metal started to falter, MTV was not only dedicated to serving household audiences with new and legacy music, but also saw the dawn of Mike Judge cartoons that paid homage to rock and metal culture, and even Nickelodeon sought artists such as Devo, Iggy Pop, Blondie, and Third Eye Blind to participate in their children’s programming, be it through musical introduction numbers for iconic TV shows or unlikely cameos. As millennials broke into the aughts and approached their teen years, the alt-mania started to fade away. MTV gradually stopped purveying music and became a hub for reality television instead. Nickelodeon lost its edge and iconic branding. And above all, the rockers who wrote some of the most legendary music of the era started to meet their demise. Now, nearly 30 years after grunge started to take the airways, a new era is being ushered in with G.U.S.H., an emerging band from Canada who is an amalgamation of 90s’ alt-nostalgia.

“90s alternative music played such a huge role for me, especially at such an impressionable age,” says G.U.S.H songwriter Roger LeBlanc. “My two cousins were Gen ‘X’ers and they introduced me to what would be the foundation that I base all music I create off of. Albums like ‘Nevermind,’ ‘Razorblade Suitcase’ and ‘Mellon Collie’ and ‘The Infinite Sadness.’ These all influenced what I love in my music – pop song structure, catchy hooks, guitar driven jams and an upfront drum production, all dripping with angst. Deftones showed me that you can mash up two totally opposing influences and make something unique and powerful.”

LeBlanc continues, “I think we were the first generation to really be left to our own to figure out life. Both parents were expected to be working in the 90’s and that created such a unique form of anxiety in every aspect of life which embodies itself in all the cultural aspects of the time. The cartoons were weird, so were the toys. Video games were really starting to explode and the internet had arrived. I kind of raised myself in that sense. MTV (Much Music in Canada) and PC Gamer magazines is where I got the only news I cared about in those days. I think the main way these play into G.U.S.H. is that it is kind of a call back to a more simple time for me, although the lyrics can be austere, this really is a project about healing and finding yourself again.”

For some, LeBlanc’s foray into alternative music might be a surprise, as he last musical venture was with the now defunct post-black metal horde Numenorean. In some ways, G.U.S.H. is a major diversion from Numenorean, but when one really reads between the lines, there’s a duality within the post-rock elements found within both projects, calling to more nuanced 90s acts like the Deftones, who always painted outside the lines with layers of texture. “I wanted to get back to the basics,” explains LeBlanc of this musical change. “I wanted to explore what made me fall in love with music to begin with. This is music I’ve always wanted to play and to be honest I really pushed to have more aspects of it in my black metal project. I just couldn’t find anyone who wanted to play or write music like this with me, so I just did it myself. Then I surrounded myself with artists who wanted to be there. At the end of the day, I wanted to fall in love with music all over again and just have fun. I feel like I lost that in my previous project and I am so excited to have it back.”

What’s striking about G.U.S.H.’s debut is the stark contrast between the bright music and dark lyrics, reminiscent of the forlorn icons of the 90s who battled their demons publicly through their deep and mournful words against the backdrop of high-energy riffs and beats. “I wanted to convey what it’s like to live with chronic mental illness and the challenges I face being Bipolar,” LeBlanc candidly explains. “I wanted to explore my practice of wearing a mask to protect the ones I love and to be able to function professionally as an artist. The lyrics are what I’m truly feeling and the conversations I have with myself. The cheerful instrumental aspect of the sound is the mask I wear when I’m out in the world. This also plays into the experience of the mood swings and crippling depression associated with being Bipolar.”

The stigma that often goes along with mental health struggles is one that had started to become erased and challenged by the forefathers of the grunge genre. Artists became more open about their battles with depression, anxiety, and addiction, paving the way for individuals to speak more candidly about their own personal demons and to seek help before it’s too late. “I think things got a little more basic in the 90’s with regards to music and being openly pissed off and depressed was okay,” LeBlanc explains. “The faces of music became more about the human condition, not really pretending to be anything else. Like, hair metal in the 80’s which was huge before Nirvana hit the scene. Those bands were very much a suspension of belief with tons of gimmicks. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, but I think different generations expect different things from their artists. 90’s grunge and alternative was just a group of folks playing in a band and writing emotionally charged music. The emphasis was on stripped down songwriting and less with the gimmicks or makeup or being ‘heavier’ than the other band. It was about writing good catchy jams and owning the pop influence. I hope that it influences people to not shy away from pop music, just because it’s pop music. There’s so much to learn from other people’s creations. I hope that people hear all the influences in our music and go ‘Oh, shit, I never thought to do that, I’m totally going to steal that!’”

While the millennials will never get to experience the haunting live prowess of legends like Kurt Cobain or Layne Staley, and Gen Z starts to see the last of the 90s heroes leave this plain such as Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland, G.U.S.H. emerges as an answer to those yearning for the nostalgia that they never got to experience first hand. The band joins the ranks of some of LeBlanc’s favorite modern acts who strive to capture the cultural essence from before the turn of the century. “There’s a couple of really great modern bands that inspired me on this journey,” he remarks. “Dilly Dally, Dead Soft, Superheaven, Narrow Head, Teenage Wrist, Fleshwater and Loathe. All fucking awesome!” He cheekily adds another piece of his childhood that seems to have made its way into the 2020s. “Also, bucket hats are back…I don’t know if that’s a good thing though?”

As G.U.S.H. makes its debut as an independent artist, the band captures the irony of how musical digitalization has now empowered artists to be their own creators. Napster once caused grievous harm to musicians by eliminating music sales, but now with the rise of digital streaming services and Bandcamp, this unlikely medium has started to allow artists to become DIY entities and not tied to the limiting corporate structure of a record label. As the band begins its journey, there is no doubt that they will be among the leaders of the grunge revival movement, one that kids will rediscover in another 20 years and feel inspired to mimic. “I hope that it inspires people!” exclaims LeBlanc. “I hope that folks will get out of this album what I get out of the albums I love. I also hope it helps all my sad folks feel a little better knowing they aren’t alone. That’s what Nirvana and Deftones did for me. I hope that I can give that back in some way to someone else.”

This November, Sylvaine is touring across Scandinavia with fellow dark singer-songwriter and shredder Jonathan Hultén. The two will play seven shows across Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

On a calm day, water can appear gentle and inviting. Yet what seems permeable and supple can become vicious and brutal in an instant, as anyone who has ever been caught in a storm at sea can attest. As such, water is the perfect elemental theme for “Aion”, the third album of German psychedelic doom contenders BEES MADE HONEY IN THE VEIN TREE.

Lyrically, water is present on “Aion” both for its life-giving quality but also its darker and more ominous side. Musically,  BEES MADE HONEY IN THE VEIN TREE deliver spacious, dynamic compositions that move from drifting tranquility to raging power. A constant tidal movement of ebb and flow translates into spaced-out guitars, pounding bass-lines, and dripping drum-fills, crowned by echoing clean vocals. Stylistically, the album easily transcends the psychedelic doom label previously attached to the band into something deeper and more resonant.

The seemingly endless mental vista of the seas that BEES MADE HONEY IN THE VEIN TREE‘s sonic spaces develop also touch upon another important aspect of “Aion”: time. The album title derives from the Greek word ἀιών (aiṓn), which translates as ‘eternity’ and has come to denote ‘ages’ in the English word ‘aeon’. The songs on “Aion” cycle through a sense of compressing and expanding time, creating an elliptical pattern that can move from sudden to hypnotic and back.

BEES MADE HONEY IN THE VEIN TREE were founded in the German city of Stuttgart in 2014. With all four members having grown up together since childhood and coming from an academic background, the band had a clearly defined goal right from the start: to contrast crushing doom metal riffs with the spheric sounds of post- and psychedelic rock. This is emphasised by reverberating vocals that recite metaphorical lyrics and float through beautiful and heavy sonic spaces.

BEES MADE HONEY IN THE VEIN TREE laid down their musical template with the debut album “Medicine” in 2017, which provided the solid foundation of their ever-evolving sound. Their sophomore full-length “Grandmother” (2019) expanded the sonic horizon through lower tuning, densely layered effects, faster passages, and harder vocals. The Germans also started performing live at home and abroad to continuously growing audiences, which led to the recording and release of “Harvestmen (live)” in 2022.

It is time to set sails and glide over the endless seas of time that BEES MADE HONEY IN THE VEIN TREE create on “Aion” for a glimpse of sparkling sonic stars and the beauty of eternity.
