HEAVY WATER Unleash New Single And Video ‘Another Day’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 27, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: HEAVY WATER. Leave a comment

HEAVY WATER, the lockdown project created by Saxon frontman Biff Byford and son Seb Byford, release their infectious new single ‘Another Day’. The song is the second single taken from the groove-saturated, riff-mighty, hip-shaking sophomore album titled Dreams of Yesterday, out this week via Silver Lining Music.

“The song is about writing songs, waiting for the inspiration to come…some days are good, other days are bad so you’re always waiting for another day hoping the song will appear… it can be quite spiritual when it happens!” explain Seb and Biff.

Watch/listen to the recently released title track, ‘Dreams Of Yesterday’ here.

Not only does Dreams of Yesterday enjoy the tighter, sharper cohesion of being a second project, the bloodline flows freely in its creative arc, with Biff revelling in the role of collaborator with his son and Seb clearly enjoying himself. Pulling the experience, influence and craft of Biff and fusing it with some fresh twists invoking the likes of Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains, Seb takes to both the guitar and producer’s chair with an effusive energy that crackles from every cut. Whether it’s the bombastic, bodaciously thick melodic swamp-stomp of ‘Shadows of Life’, the spiky, punk-dipped guitar-driven ‘Another Day’, or the high-energy indie-tinged rock swirl of ‘Be My Saviour’, Dreams of Yesterday literally keeps you on your toes (air guitar in hand).

Seb Byford recorded Dreams of Yesterday at the Big Silver Barn in York, UK, with Jacky Lehmann mixing alongside Jamie Scarratt. Dreams of Yesterday is produced by Seb and Biff, with Biff taking up bass duties once more and sharing vocal duties with Seb, who throws down the big verses and plays the guitars with an effusive energy that crackles from every cut. At the same time, Tom Witts’s assured drumming provides the perfect platform for what is, essentially, a genre-less celebration of exciting, engaging yet wholly egoless music.

So rejoice and bathe in this Heavy Water immediately because Dreams of Yesterday never sounded more alive, fresh, and present.

Dreams of Yesterday will be released this Friday September 29th 2023, via Silver Lining Music. Available as a CD Digipak, digital formats and D2C bundles. For pre-orders, go to this location.

DOKKEN Release New Video + Single ‘Gypsy’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 27, 2023

Legendary American rockers DOKKEN have released the infectious new single ‘Gypsy’, taken from the band’s 13th studio album, Heaven Comes Down, set for release on October 27, 2023 (Silver Lining Music).

Video by Natalia Jonderko Śmiechowicz. New Album, Heaven Comes Down Out October 27th via Silver Lining Music. Available on CD Digipak, 12” Vinyl Album in Black and colour variants, digital formats and special D2C products and bundles. Pre-order at this location.

“While writing the new record, we had written a lot of music, but I sometimes got stuck with the lyrics so I decided to go camping” explains Don Dokken. “I came across a woman wearing a lot of necklaces and jewelry. She was driving an old wagon with one horse and she was stuck in a hole, I asked her if she needed help but she said ‘no the sun will be up soon’. She had a fire going and invited me to have some food that was cooking in an old pot, so I did and we began to talk.”

“She spoke in broken English and looked Navaho” continues Don. “There is a reservation here in New Mexico. The first thing she said to me was ‘you make music’ and I was intrigued by that, so we sat there for several hours and talked, she looked very old yet wise. She told me about her life living on the reservation and I told her about my life. She told me I had lost my way, which I found funny since she seemed to be lost but wasn’t! It was pitch black, she looked up and said ‘the stars guide me’ and started speaking Navaho. I found the experience very surreal!”

Don concludes, “I got my jack out of my truck and lifted up her wagon, we both gathered a lot of rocks and filled the hole so she could get her wagon unstuck, and then she just walked away and started to drive off without saying a word, but then she shouted back to me and said ‘the sun is coming up… you need to go, the coyotes and mount lions will be hunting soon’… very wise advice!”

Watch/listen to ‘Fugitive’ here.Video directed by Chris Eyre (Dark Winds, Smoke Signals) at Meow Wolf in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Video by Tom Strickfaden.

Exchange the urban heat of the Sunset Strip for the warm wilderness of New Mexico, as Dokken bring their timeless convertible Ferrari rock’n’roll power to the table with some key modifications along the creative path. Working with engineer Bill Palmer over the course of a year at his studio in Santa Fe, the Dokken flavours remain as potent as ever, yet they’re also sprinkled with some desert seasoning which gives Heaven Comes Down a richness hitherto unseen on a Dokken album.

You want to rock? Sink your teeth into ‘Fugitive’, which rides some shimmering guitar work courtesy of 20+ year member Jon Levin, and if you want ballads, head on over to ‘I’ll Never Give Up’, hanging on that Coliseum chorus, Levin laying down a landmark solo. The pattern of Heaven Comes Down never falters in delivering the goods on both sides of the fence. ‘Just Like A Rose’ brings the Pacific Coast Highway to desert plains with its smooth, effortlessly-driven gears, and ‘Saving Grace’ carries a mystical malevolence. But ‘Santa Fe’ is perhaps the most revealing with Don Dokken opening up with what amounts to a ‘life-moment biography’: a spartan acoustic arrangement allowing the rich yet road-driven vocals to frame what might well prove to be the defining moment of Dokken’s career.

Mixed by Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Joe Bonamassa) and produced by Bill Palmer and Don Dokken, fans will love it, neutrals will be wonderfully surprised by some of the ingredients within Heaven Comes Down.

TRACK‐LISTING:
01 – Fugitive
02 – Gypsy

WAR CURSE Unleash ‘The Convoy’ Video + Single

Ohio-based metal masters WAR CURSE today unveil their new single and accompanying video for “The Convoy.” The track comes by way of the band’s Confession full-length, set for release on October 20th via Metal Blade Records/Blacklight Media.

Having built a devout fan base for their thrash-oriented metallic attack starting with 2015’s Final Days and cemented with 2019’s Eradication, WAR CURSE returns in 2023 a more refined animal. In fact, it could be argued that the ten tracks of Confession stand as WAR CURSE‘s Black Album, having the courage to move beyond what they’re known for and to focus on songwriting, groove, dynamics, and melody, without compromising on muscle one iota.

Elaborates Roth of the theme behind the band’s fiery new single, “A number of prominent tyrants surfaced during the pandemic. Power hungry, seething scumbags who allowed their true colors to show. Very few private citizens had the will or the means to stand up to them. ‘The Convoy’ is a modern day battle hymn written for the people who risked their livelihood and reputations for our individual liberties. May every power drunk dictator one day find themselves at the end of a short rope.”

Watch the band’s previously released video for “Miracle Broker” at THIS LOCATION.

With extensive touring plans in 2020 falling apart due to the pandemic, WAR CURSE spent several months in purgatory before deciding to dust off their instruments and start writing a new album. With the world in a strange place, motivation came and went, reflecting the tumultuous day-to-day change in information. This led to the writing process taking a year, however it was time well spent.

“We demo recorded every song two or three times, picked them apart, edited them, and then rehearsed them in a room together. We allowed the process of collaboration and experimentation to take us wherever the wave carried us. Compared to previous releases, we were a lot more critical of ourselves during the writing and recording of this album. We set out to make an album in the truest sense of the word, not just a collection of songs.”

This is very much apparent when listening to Confession, from the agitated, muscular title track with its widescreen chorus, to the driving “Power Of The Powerless,” or the equal parts triumphant and steamrolling “Sowing Division,” every track stands on its own while taking its place in the overall picture.

The vocal contributions of Blaine Gordon, who emanates confidence in ways he has not previously, are particularly striking on the band’s latest output. “On Eradication, Blaine replaced our previous vocalist in the studio, on very short notice, and mimicked what was already written. This was the first time he got to add his creative input. He pushed us in a more melodic direction, and [guitarist Joshua] Murphy and I backed him up with guitar parts that felt harmonious with his vision. Likewise, when a part called for heavy or dirty vocals, Blaine returned the favor tenfold.”

All songs on Confession were recorded, mixed, and mastered by Neil Tuuri at Amish Electric Chair Studios. The album art, layout, design, and photography were handled by Justin Roth. As an added bonus, the record includes a cover of Grip Inc.‘s “Rusty Nail.”

Confession will be released on CD, LP, and digitally. Find pre-orders at: blacklightmediarecords.com/warcurse

SATAN released their sixth full-length album, Earth Infernal, via Metal Blade last year. Earth Infernal is a product of the times that birthed it and could only be the work of SATAN. Having churned out cutting edge heavy metal throughout the ’80s – and reunited in 2011 – the record maintains the high standard of musicianship the band set long ago, and it is perhaps their timeliest release. “For two years, the world has been preoccupied with politics and pandemics and while we were all looking the other way our planet has continued to get hotter,” said guitarist Russ Tippins upon the record’s release. “Our Earth is now infernally hot. Almost irreversibly so. We are on a one-way trip to Hell and dragging our children along with us. Yes, SATAN has something to say about global warming.” The album entered the German Charts at position #12, the highest chart entry ever for the band.

Don Dokken Says “Heaven Comes Down” Could Be Dokken’s Last Album But Never Say Never

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 27, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Don Dokken, The Metal Voice. Leave a comment

Jimmy Kay and Giles Lavery from The Metal Voice recently interviewed Don Dokken about Dokken’s upcoming new album ‘Heaven Comes Down’ set for release on October 27, 2023 (Silver Lining Music).

When asked about the new album ‘Heaven comes down’‘Every song is killer on this record. They’re all (songs) are different, ‘I Remember’ or ‘Gypsy’ or ‘Like a rose’. Dokken always used to end our records with a big fast double bass burner. But I ended this record with one guitar and me singing about my journey from L.A. to New Mexico you know (the song) Santa Fe. A great song, very simple, this guitar is just a vocal. I wrote this record in my comfortable range and it still has the Dokken harmonies and you’ll notice on the record there’s no real songs about love and love loss and love found, which used to be me kind of go to. These (new) songs are like stories, like ‘Gypsy’, ‘Fugitive’. ‘I remember’ is probably the only one that’s kind of uh, reminiscent of I was thinking about my past and my life and I wrote the song I remember but they’re all (songs) Still rocking.”

When asked about making music videos for his new album “We did the video for ‘Heaven comes down’ and my record company, no offense to them but they gave me like a tiny little budget and I said I want to make a great video. It’s my last record. My hands paralyzed. I can’t play guitar anymore. I shipped my piano to my daughter, it’s over and I said but it’s gonna be a great video that people are interested in. And the money they gave me (not much), I said so you want me to film this video on iPhones okay? (Laughs). I’m not doing that. Back in the 80s we were using film and get it developed and we had to edit it and you know no special effects. Now you have AI you can look at the new Queensrÿche video. It’s all AI, it’s crazy animation, it’s amazing but I said nope uh-uh I’m gonna do something different. It’d be very simple for us to just rent a stage. Go on stage lip sync make a video with three cameras done nope not gonna do it. So we filmed ‘Fugitive’ (song) and it’s a very cool and interesting video, it’s got over a half a million hits and it’s only been out for six weeks. And now our new video came out ‘Gypsy’ and I said okay we did that and we only got we only got away with that video because I had people that are famous directors editors directors of Photography there were fans of Dokken and they said Don we’ll fly to Santa Fe and we’ll do it for free we just want to we just want to make a great video.Tom Strickfaden (director) dragged all his 5K cameras he does football now these are movie cameras that’s why it looks so amazing. I was talking to John Levin (guitarist) . He was very good friends with Tommy who manages Extreme (band) and he says you know Extreme plans on doing a video for every song on their record so they can keep the album alive for a year. And I said we should do that. Let’s make 10 videos, be It Animation, AI, film, GoPros whatever so we plan on doing that. I’m already working on the next song, ‘Is it me or is it you’ we’re working on that video right now.”

When asked Don to further elaborate if this was Dokken’s last album

“Yes (it is), I feel guilty because I said that after Broken Bones (album) but yeah it’s that’s it, we’re done. We’ve made our statement in Rock and Roll history uh you know we’ll continue to tour. I mean my problem now is when we tour we’d had so many hits and they only want you to play 90 minutes. What songs do we kick out of the set and add . I came to a very Revelation two years ago when I got paralyzed that I spent my whole life, my whole career to keep the fans happy, to be on the road for a year and a half no life. I had a son and a daughter and I didn’t watch him grow up. I’d come home and they’d sprouted a foot and I said you know I don’t have any obligation to the fans to keep going on. I do it because we love to play but I would like to play songs that are near and dear to my heart so that’s what we’re gonna do right now. Maybe I’m speaking too soon, I was at the airport with John (levein) we landed in Dallas. I said John , you want to do another record? And he says I don’t know if I have it in me and I said well let’s just work on ‘Heaven comes down’, we’ll talk in a year about it and John goes I have eight songs I’ve written and I still have four or five songs that are finished. Never Say Never.”

1 –  Fugitive
2 –  Gypsy
3 –  Is It Me Or You?
4 –  Just Like A Rose
