Guitarist ADRIAN VANDENBERG Says He Was Asked by Ozzy to Join Band During 1983 Tour

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 12, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Adrian Vandenberg, The Metal Voice. Leave a comment

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to Ex-Whitesnake guitarist and solo artist Adrian Vandenberg about Vandenberg’s new album ‘SIN’ that was released on August 25, 2023 via Mascot records.

Vandenberg also spoke about how he was asked to join Ozzy Osbourne’s band during the Speak to the Devil tour and how he was asked to join Whitesnake multiple times throughout the years and refused.

When asked what the difference is musically from Vandenberg’s latest album SIn to their last album 2020.
” I realized I was really happy with the 2020 album but when we started doing a bunch of live shows under our belt I realized I would like to try to get a little closer to how we sound live. So I turned everything up a little bit, a little bit more umph out of the amplifier, a little bit more punch on the drums. Just a little bit more of everything and go a little heavier, heavier than the 2020 album.”

When asked if he was ever approached by Kiss or Ozzy to join their bands, since Vandenberg supported these two bands in the 80’s
” I did. A story that I never told before. Ozzy actually. First time I met him (Ozzy) during the tour. But I must say he was not quite sober, which was unusual for Ozzy of course (laughs). His tour manager introduced me to him and he was in a lunchroom of one of the hotel and he said Adrian do you want to join my band? (Adrian said), we are supporting you guys and Jake (E Lee) is a fantastic player. He (Ozzy) mumbles something, like stay in touch or whatever. But later on um some people mentioned that Don Airey (keyboardist) and a couple of other guys in the band um mentioned to Ozzy that my style of playing had a lot of resemblance with um Randy Rhods’ playing and in the sense of classical influences like Euro metal type of stuff combined with American and blues.

Adrian Vandenberg. Joined by vocalist Mats Levén, drummer Koen Herfst and bassist Randy Van Der Elsen, the influential axe-slinger delivers a vibrant, visceral, and vital vision on the group’s fifth full-length offering, “Sin”, brought to life in broad strokes of anthemic hard rock and airtight metal and produced by Bob Marlette (OZZY OSBOURNE, ALICE COOPER, ROB ZOMBIE).

Recorded in Holland and Los Angeles with Marlette, “Sin” represents a natural evolution for VANDENBERG. Scorching pinch harmonics light up the first single “House On Fire” as the groove underlines a chantable chorus from Mats.

NICK BARKER to Release New Album “Exoskeleton” on September 22nd, New Single ‘Chinese Burn’ Out Now

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 12, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Nick Barker. Leave a comment

Nick Barker is one of Australia’s most-loved artists and one of its finest songwriters, having written songs with Paul Kelly, Jimmy Barnes, Mick Thomas, Tim Rogers and Felicity Urquhart. ‘Exoskeleton’ – which comes 35 years after Barker’s first single with the Reptiles – is his first solo album in 14 years, following two albums with The Heartache State.

It’s a collection of songs about people who have hard outer layers but are soft inside, love and loss, death and family, and scars that never heal. Yep, you need a tough shell to survive in this business. But not only has Nick Barker survived, he’s delivered one of the finest albums of his career.

ABOUT NICK BARKER
Nick Barker left his suburban home at 17 and began his career as a bass player in Melbourne’s eclectic inner city post-punk scene, cutting his teeth in iconic venues like the Ballroom and the Prince of Wales with bands such as The Curse, Beach House and A Singing Dog, precursor to the now infamous Lubricated Goat. The most notable of these was The Wreckery, with whom he played on five albums.
In 1988, Nick’s new band, Nick Barker and the Reptiles, began playing bars around town, sparking interest from The White Label. They had their first break through with the Chris Bailey-produced single, ‘Another Me’, followed by four crazy years of booze-soaked pub rock. The Reptiles released two albums: Goin’ to Pieces in 1989, which included the hit cover version of Steve Harley’s ‘Make Me Smile’ and After the Show in 1991, recorded in Melbourne and Memphis, and produced by Joe Hardy (ZZ Top, Georgia Satellites, Steve Earle). Sadly, The Reptiles fell apart in 1993 after the release of Loose, an EP that gave an insight into the band’s true potential.
Nick released his first solo album in 1994. Happy Man spawned the single ‘Time Bomb’, which ended up at number 20 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 1994. In 1996, he followed up with the dark and gritty, Damn Mermaids. This was his personal favourite, although the album marked the end of his ten-year association with Mushroom Records. Nick kept moving and in 1998 landed a major role in the 1998 Australian movie, ‘Amy’, alongside Rachael Griffith and Ben Mendlesohn, also writing and recording five songs for the soundtrack.
He released another four albums over the next ten years: Returned Service, a live solo record, and Backyard 6, both on Mick Thomas’s Croxton Records label; C-sides, an album of stripped down re-recordings of his favourite songs as part of Liberation’s Acoustic series; and Blackwater Blues in 2009, recorded live on a 16 track in Mick Thomas’s backyard studio.
Nick’s last two albums were released under The Heartache State name, with what was supposed to be a collective quickly becoming another vehicle for his songwriting. 2014’s self-titled CD was released, which was then followed by Last of the Buffalo in 2016 through Golden Robot Records.
A tireless songwriter and performer, Nick has toured the UK, Europe, North and South America and Asia. He’s written songs with the likes of Tim Rogers, Paul Kelly, Jimmy Barnes, Earl Slick, Mick Thomas and Felicity Urquhart – just to name a few.
Nick has seen the Australian music industry spin, chase its tail, die, resurrect and do it all over again. Thirty-five years later, he’s still here and no one is more surprised than him.

SOEN Release New Video ‘Hollowed’ Feat. Elisa

Following the release of their highly praised new album Memorial, SOEN have released the video for the new single ‘Hollowed’ featuring vocals from acclaimed singer Elisa.

Memorial sees the band overall take a heavier approach to their craft but the new single ‘Hollowed’ is a hugely powerful and gushing ballad, which stands out as a powerful bridge across the album’s ten tracks. The song sees guitarist Cody Ford shine with an epic and intense Pink Floyd tinged guitar solo, whilst tender vocals are traded throughout from singer and founding member Joel Ekelöf and Italian star Elisa.

Elisa has firmly established herself as a global superstar during her more than twenty-year career. Her collaboration with Ennio Morricone, ‘Ancora qui’, was featured in Quentin Tarantino’s film, Django Unchained and its Grammy nominated soundtrack album. Just some of her other achievements include her albums going triple platinum and collaborations with the likes of Muse, Imagine Dragons, Tina Turner and Pavarotti & Friends.

Ekelöf comments, “’Hollowed’ is a song about moving away from the place and persons that have been your home. It’s also the first time we ever have had a guest appearance on one of our albums and the turnout was more than successful. Elisa is such a talented singer and she truly made this song reach the emotional intensity that it deserves.”

Drummer and co-founding member Martin Lopez adds, “the message of the track is powerful and is about whether to make the decision of either leaving behind what once was a perfect harmony but has turned into dissonance, or to just stay there and maybe spend the rest of your life trying to revive something that is already dead.”

Never ones to take the restrained path, Soen face down the ills and ways of current society with a crisp, wounded venom that betrays their pain, anger and frustrations. Each guitar carries a greater serrated edge, each melody a richer heart, each lyric a soul and spleen venting definitive proclamation. At the same time, Soen’s unique blend of progression, aggression, and beauty shows more maturity than ever before.

Following their incredible performances at this year’s summer festivals across Europe, Soen, completed by Lars Enok Åhlund (Keyboards and Guitar), Oleksii ‘Zlatoyar’ Kobel (Bass) and Cody Ford (Lead Guitar), will be heading out on their Memorial European tour, which will kick off in this month in Odense, Denmark. The band also recently announced new dates seeing them bring Memorial to the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tour will kick-off in May 2024 in Chicago, Illinois.
