KK’s PRIEST Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens Talks about New Album & Ripper Priest Songs & Being a Tribute Band?

Canada’s The Metal Voice recently interviewed KK’s Priest singer Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens about the band’s upcoming album ‘ The Sinner Rides Again‘ which will be released on Sept 29, 2023 via Napalm Records.

When asked about the feedback from fans in regards to the first few live shows with KK’s Priest
“It’s been unbelievable. I think if anyone has read the reviews or seen anything on it, it’s been incredible. I read someone’s review saying they were shocked at how good it was. I think what they are shocked at is that we have a pretty big production, pyro and the screens. It’s a great show and it’s a costly show. We have been on fire and we have been having a lot of fun.”

When asked about challenges of singing the current set list
“The classic Priest songs have always been easier to sing than my own (Judas Priest Era) so it’s kind of funny. Even KK’s Priest songs are much more difficult songs in the set list to sing than the classic Priest songs. In the past five years I have said in interviews I wasn’t singing as great but the past year, I’ve gotten it back, full on all of a sudden, it’s been pretty good.”

When asked about including more Ripper era songs in the KK’s priest setlist
“We wanted to do that right out of the gate but the problem was, we were doing festivals and not our own shows. So you have to make a set list that is kind of adaptable to everybody. I think eventually when we start touring and doing our own shows what is going to happen, I hope. We add one or two more of my era (Judas Priest songs). ‘One on One’ and or ‘Burn in Hell’ has to be in our set list. It would be nice to also do ‘Cathedral Spires’ because that is the one (song) that fans are asking the most. But I think we are obviously going to be adding more KK’s Priest songs. We have 6 songs now in KK’s Priest (set list) and we will be releasing two new videos soon. So we will be adding two more in and probably add another one from the first record and another one from the new record. There is no doubt people want to hear (Ripper Judas Priest Era songs), Judas Priest ignores them (songs) and acts like I was never in the band. Which is fine because it makes my solo touring and KK’s Priest all that more exciting for people because at least they can go hear them (Ripper era Songs). “

When asked what do you say to people who call KK’s Priest a tribute band
“Well it makes no sense, it’s the stupidest comment. I have to be honest since we have been playing live I hardly ever see these types of comments much anymore because now the proof is in the pudding. We are not talking about the sharpest tools in the shed, the people on the internet. People just get on the internet to say things that make no sense whatsoever or they actually give you career advice. I don’t mind if people don’t like us but when they don’t like us and say a tribute band? K.K. (Downing) is the co-founding member of Judas Priest. I was in Judas Priest. Half the set now is our own songs and soon 3/4 of the set is going to be our own songs. It makes no sense.”

When asked to compare KK’s Priest last album to the new album ‘The Sinner Rides Again’
“I think the songs sound more cohesive. Even with all the musical changes in the songs, it all runs great and sounds better. The first record was exactly what we needed, a little more old school, the sound was more old school, everything about it was a classic sound. This one has a little more punch to it, more aggressiveness, the sound is unbelievably good. You can just tell that now we have moved into something even better. I think this new album is a progression and I just love it.”

“The Sinner Rides Again” track listing:

  1. Sons Of The Sentinel
  2. Strike Of The Viper
  3. Reap The Whirlwind
  4. One More Shot At Glory
  5. Hymn 66
  6. The Sinner Rides Again
  7. Keeper Of The Graves
  8. Pledge Your Souls
  9. Wash Away Your Sins

DAVID REECE Releases New Bangalore Choir Video ‘Back To Life’

DAVID REECE has unleashed the new Bangalore Choir video for the song ‘Back To Life’, taken from the new album “Center Mass” which was released on Global Rock Records via Cherry Red on July 7th.

David Reece adds:

Greetings BC friends and family! Well as everyone knows we’ve recorded a new Bangalore Choir record which we felt was way overdue.
On Target has been a personal favorite of mine since the inception and I always felt a need to awaken the beast again.
The record Center Mass was recorded in Italy and produced, mixed and mastered by Riccardo Demarosi who also plays bass on the record.
The guitar’s are played by Nicolò Savinelli, Jimi Bell, Martin Kronlund, Mario Percudani and many others.
Nello Savinelli is the one driving the nails on drum’s.
Also a special addition was reaching out to the great Ian Mayo who also contributes on the album.
There’s a special “If The Good Die Young (We’ll Live Forever) Part Two” on the album which the great Brynn Arens masterfully created.
Giles Lavery I must give a shout out to because he’s been the rock that makes it roll with me for many years.
I think we tapped into some of the magic everyone expects from Bangalore Choir and I advise you in advance to Crank it!

Fronted by former Accept and Bonfire vocalist David Reece, Bangalore Choir emerged in 1991 at the tail end of the 1980s melodic metal movement, instantly impressing the rock press with big choruses, melodic guitar playing and songwriting contributions by Jon Bon Jovi, Aldo Nova and Autograph’s Steve Plunkett!

The new album ‘Center Mass’ was released on Global Rock Records via Cherry Red on July 7th, is a direct sequel in style to the classic debut ‘On Target’,and is sure to excite fans of the debut album and of the melodic heavy rock genre in general.

The initial pressing comes with an 8 song live CD recorded in Germany in 2022.

About Steve Hackett
Steve Hackett joined Genesis at the beginning of 1971 and gained an international reputation as the guitarist in the band’s classic line-up alongside Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins. Hackett’s intricate guitar work was a key element of Genesis’ albums from Nursery Cryme (1971) to Wind And Wuthering (1977) including the classic Selling England By The Pound.

After leaving Genesis at the end of 1977, Hackett’s solo career, which now spans more than 30 albums, has demonstrated his extraordinary versatility with both electric and acoustic guitar. Hackett is renowned as both an immensely talented and innovative rock musician and a virtuoso classical guitarist and composer and this was recognized in 2010 when he was inducted into the Rock Hall Of Fame. He has also worked alongside Steve Howe of YES in the supergroup GTR.

Hackett’s compositions take influences from many genres, including jazz, classical and blues. For his later studio works The Night Siren (2017) and At The Edge Of Light (2019) Hackett has explored the influences of world music. Recent tours have seen Hackett celebrate his time with Genesis including a spectacular 2018 tour in which he realized a long-held ambition to perform the works of Genesis live with his band and an orchestra. The lockdown enforced by the 2020 global pandemic has proven to be a particularly creative period for Hackett. He began by releasing Selling England by the Pound & Spectral Mornings: Live at Hammersmith, a live recording of 2019’s hugely successful tour celebrating that Genesis classic together with the 40th anniversary of one of his most-loved solo albums. Lockdown also gave Hackett the opportunity to write and record two new studio albums, the UK Classical Chart hit Under A Mediterranean Sky and the forthcoming Surrender of Silence.

In 2021, Steve and his band returned to touring, celebrating the classic Genesis live album ‘Seconds Out’, on what was one of his most successful tours to date.
