PATRIARCHS IN BLACK, the project formed by Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative/Quiet Riot) and Dan Lorenzo (Hades/Non-Fiction) have just put the finishing touches on their 2nd album “My Veneration”.

As with the Patriarchs In Black debut, Reach For The Scars, Kelly and Lorenzo are joined by multiple singers and bassists. Karl Agell (Corrosion of Conformity Blind/Lie Heavy) is back as is Rob Traynor from Black Water Rising. Mark Sunshine (Riotgod/Unida) sings along with hip-hop legend Darryl DMC from RUN/DMC on the track Veneration. There’s also appearances from John “JD” DeServio (Black Label Society), Dave Neabore (Dog Eat Dog), Johnny Araya (yes, Tom’s brother) plus a cover of Kiss’ I Stole Your Love featuring Johnny Kelly’s brother Danny Kelly and many more guests including the projects first use of violin and keyboards.

Dan Lorenzo with Darryl DMC

“Johnny and I have recorded with well over a dozen musicians on our two albums and each person brings their own influences to this project” Lorenzo stated. “We’re not trying to please everyone, but I do feel like there’s something on My Veneration for everybody.”

Lorenzo continued. Kelly Abe who was on the TV show Battle for Ozzfest is a decade younger than us and he brings, I guess you’d call it a nu-metal sound to the songs he sings on. Sunshine is perhaps the most unique singer I’ve ever heard and Karl…is Karl. How can you not love Karl’s voice?”.

Regarding the album title My Veneration, Lorenzo said, “Obviously, it’s a play on words of a famous song, but you don’t hear the word ‘veneration’ used often. I love the word and it describes my love and deep respect of making music”

The first single from My Veneration is the track Veneration featuring DMC out August 25th.

“My Veneration” will hit the stores on October 6th released by MDD Records worldwide. Stay tuned, more infos soon!

REBAELLIUN Debut First Track ‘In Heresy We Trust’ from New Album

Brazil’s long-running death metal adepts REBAELLIUN reveal the first song from their forthcoming, first in seven years album, “Under The Sign Of Rebellion”, scheduled for release on September 22nd via Agonia Records. The song is titled “In Heresy We Trust” and comes as a lyric video available below.

“Under The Sign Of Rebellion” is a death metal manifest of anger and defiance, rage and resistance, sparked by the falsehood and corruption that have plagued Brazil in recent years. The album’s intense cannonade of brutal riffing, battering drumming and hard-charging rhythms mirrors the many adversities the three-piece was forced to overcome en route to its completion.

Commented by REBAELLIUN: “When we started the compositions for the next album, we didn’t imagine that we would go through a global pandemic, along with it, a retrograde and conservative uprising here in Brazil; in addition to, over time, a government that proved to be spurious and corrupt. When we started recording, we didn’t have lyrics, because the pandemic had messed up and delayed everyone’s lives, so, in a moment of pure anger for everything that was happening around us, we decided to start recording even without rehearsals. The indignation was so big, that we wanted to vent everything we were feeling. The lyrics were written in opposition to what we here call ‘cidadão de bem’ or ‘good people’, exposing the fallacy that is the life of these abject beings. Under The Sign Of Rebellion is an album that tries to demonstrate – through death metal –  the insanities of life.”

“Under The Sign Of Rebellion” is the last album of REBAELLIUN to feature the late bassist/vocalist Lohy Fabiano (1978-2022), who played on all of the band’s albums except for the debut, “Burn The Promised Land”, from 1999.

Until REBAELLIUN‘s dissolution in 2002, the trio celebrated its most potent period, having released two studio albums via Hammerheart Records. They also played several tours – most of which took place in Europe – and shared the stage with Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Vader and Behemoth. In 2015 the original line-up decided to reunite and released its third installment “The Hell’s Decrees” (2016). The record was followed by a European co-headlining tour with Pestilence, alongside festival shows at Party San Open Air and Brutal Assault Open Air. In 2022, Bruno Añaña has been announced as the band’s new vocalist and bassist.

“Under The Sign Of Rebellion” was recorded during summer 2021 at RR44 Studio by Rafael Siqueira and mastered by Jander Antunes. The cover artwork was created by Sebastian Suarez and the layout and booklet by Alcides Burn (Nervosa).

CREAK Release New Single ‘Hare in the Woods’

CREAK have shared a new single, Hare in the Woods. The track is the third song to be taken from CREAK‘s upcoming debut album, Depth Perception, which is due out via Prosthetic Records on August 18, and sees the band continue to push the limits of their volatile mix of metalcore, hardcore and nu-metal.

Stream Hare in the Woods via Apple Music, TIDAL, Deezer, Bandcamp and Spotify
Pre-order Depth Perception here.

Speaking on the single release, CREAK vocalist Jack Dunn comments: “This was the first song we wrote for the album cycle, and it was the excitement from hearing it come together that led to us deciding to do a bigger album project.”

Guitarist Patrick Morton continues: “We wanted to take some of the heavier, and chaotic elements of our influences and see how far we could take our sound with them in mind.”

Dunn adds: “For us as a band this feels like the closest we’ve got to the sound we have in our heads when we think of the name CREAK. If there’s one song on the album we want people to think of us as then it would be this one.

“Lyrically when putting this song together I’d felt like I was stuck in a hole and I’d gotten so used to feeling like that it had become my normal at the time. Looking back this song was a way for me to put things into perspective and break the filter that I’d started to see life through.”

The four piece from Newcastle set out initially to craft a new EP to follow on from 2020’s rapturously-received Bitter Picture vignette, but once writing was underway, the ideas kept on coming. Channeling the same furious vitriol found on their earlier singles and the EP, CREAK managed to push their boundaries further still – finding room for experimentation within their chaotic vision. Citing influences such as Yüth Forever and Sworn In, their background in hardcore is rarely far from view, but eerie Lynchian interludes, clean vocals and metallic sensibilities contribute additional layers that elevate their sound.

Of the Lynchian elements, CREAK comments on the Restless Dreams music video: “We worked with Zak Pinchin again, as we’d built a really good relationship with him on our previous videos, and he was into nearly all of the media we were taking influence from. We watched a lot of old ‘arthouse’ horror films like Blood of a Poet or anything from David Lynch and we were really inspired by how desperate the tone of those works felt.

“With the band, we never wanted the horror element to be for the sake of having it for shock value. What we liked about those films was how they got across those feelings of anxiety or dread just by how they looked, and we wanted to try and capture some of that.”

Lyrically and thematically the tracks are saturated with pure emotion, fuelled by – amongst other things – the anguish that accompanied Dunn’s mother’s journey with cancer. Using CREAK as an outlet for  processing his feelings during that time, he adds: “I was feeling guilty about my own emotions, and going over things in a circle in my own head trying to get to a point where I could try to become comfortable with them.” Finding it easier to work through his feelings through his lyrics than to verbalise in ‘real life’, Depth Perception is something of an anthology of dread, pain, mortality – and hope.

The album took shape over several months between 2021 and 2022, with Connor Sweeney (formerly of Loathe) reprising the role he took on for Bitter Picture, producing, mixing and mastering the twelve blistering tracks. The live recording achieves the near-impossible task of capturing the frenetic, unbridled vigor of their live show; their angular metalcore punctuating an eerie soundscape permeated with anxious energy. With high hopes and boundless enthusiasm, CREAK are gathering pace as an unstoppable force.

Depth Perception tracklist:
1. Crossroads
2. Hare in the Woods
3. An Endless Black
4. Doomed
5. Restless Dreams
6. Harrow
7. Left to Heaven
8. Depth Perception
9. The Early Hours Know My Secrets
10. Cold Shoulder
11. I’m Not Alone in the Dark
12. A Head Full of Rain

Italian noise rock outfit FLYING DISK has today shared a new music video, “Wasted”, from their latest EP, “In The Heart Of The City”. Watch the clip HERE.

Hailing from northern Italy, the noise rock force takes a stand with their most intense release yet, out now via Araki Records (FR), Forbidden Place Rec (USA), Urgence Disk (CH) and Karma Conspiracy (IT).

Mastered by Jonathan Nuñez (Torche), “In The Heart Of The City” sees FLYING DISK taking cues from shoegaze and post rock, in order to create cinematic landscapes which are heavy with tension, and offset by the injection of big doses of noise rock and punk.

Tracklist:

01. Wasted
02. Sunrise
03. Tell Me of the Sun
04. Connections

“‘In The Heart Of The City’ is the summary of what we experience every day for better or for worse. This EP, consisting of 4 tracks, is the soundtrack to evenings spent outside until dawn with many thoughts and without a penny in our pocket. It is the story of those who do not go on vacation and keep wandering around their city, working for a better future. It is the result of an adolescence spent in a province that does not offer you opportunities, where the only source of hope is music, the one made by friends who, laughing and joking, still hope to make it out from there”.
