About “Far From Glory” EP

Descent’s “Far From Glory” EP is a testament to their musical journey, marking a significant resurgence in the metal realm. The band embraced a unique approach, combining classic and modern recording techniques. Recording the EP at Mike’s home brought an authentic touch to the music, as they shied away from excessive studio manipulation.

Extensive research and a meticulous selection of equipment, including Reaper as their recording software, were pivotal. The band opted for minimal editing on the drums to preserve the human element, using sample blending to enhance the sound authentically. Guitars and bass added depth and intensity to their music, while vocals posed a distinct challenge, incorporating multiple layers and inward singing for a melodic intensity.

Following the recording phase, DESCENT sought the expertise of Skulltone Studios in Germany to refine their sound. The collaboration proved instrumental in achieving a polished, professional sound that stayed true to their artistic vision.

DESCENT: A Band with a History, A Future of Triumph

DESCENT’s journey through the world of music has been an eventful one, full of twists and turns. It all began with Brian and Mike, who bonded over their love for music in their early teens. Heavily influenced by iconic bands like Metallica, Nirvana, Green Day, and The Offspring, they spent countless hours jamming in Brian’s garage, performing at house parties, and connecting with the punk and skate scene in Deep Ellum, Dallas.

Life took them on separate paths in 2002, with Brian playing in various bands and Mike venturing into different musical endeavors. But in 2018, Mike decided to resurrect DESCENT, joined forces with talented individuals like Kevin Rinders, Dylan Pike, and Joseph Kuban, and faced both loss and triumph in their musical journey. The band’s name, DESCENT, originating from a video game, holds a unique charm.

Today, with a full lineup featuring ‘Metal’ Mike Ames, Dylan Pike, Brian Knox, and Jamie Rodriguez, DESCENT is ready to conquer the music world once again.

PESSIMIST Announce First European Tour Since 2009

While mixing for their long-awaited fourth album is already well underway, PESSIMIST aren’t wasting anytime announcing their plans for next year.

The California road warriors just announced their first tour dates of 2024. They’ll be slaughtering the faithful all across Europe with Reaping Flesh.

The tour kicks off next May in their tourmate’s home province of Rome, Italy. They’ll then initiate metalheads into their cult of brutal and blackened death metal from coastal France to Belgium, Holland and Austria, before grinding to a glorious and grueling finish at Czech Republic’s Nice to Eat You Deathfest.

One of the premiere bands to emerge out of the early Baltimore, MD death metal scene, with their 1993 demo Dark Reality, PESSIMIST played their first shows opening for national acts Incantation, Deicide, and Malevolent Creation. In 1995, the band self-released the EP Absence of Light on cassette and landed gigs opening for Testament, Forbidden, Suffocation, and Napalm Death.

In 1997 PESSIMIST signed to Lost Disciple Records and released their debut CD Cult of the Initiated, which charted on CMJ Top 40 Loud Rock Charts, and received acclaim from around the world. The band continued to play shows in the Mid-Atlantic region, opening for Cryptopsy, Nile, Gorguts, Dying Fetus, Vader, Monstrosity, and festival appearances at Milwaukee Metalfest XII, New England Metal and Hardcore Fest – and the band’s first European tour with Fleshless (Cz) in 1999.

PESSIMIST released their second CD, Blood For the Gods, in 1999, which soared into the CMJ Top 30 and received the prestigious “Pick of the Issue.. 10 Fucking Skulls” in SOD Magazine. PESSIMIST became recognized for their unique brand of brutal and technical Black/Death Metal, with old-school thrash influences, an emphasis on quality songwriting, powerful live shows and a dark, evil sound.

In 2001, the band traveled to Tampa, FL to record with producer Erik Rutan, for their third CD, Slaughtering the Faithful, which featured a re-vamped lineup and a faster, more extreme musical direction. More shows followed with Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, Krisiun, Immolation, Cannibal Corpse, Dark Funeral, festival appearances at March Metal Meltdown, New England Metal and Hardcore Fest, and November to Dismember.

PESSIMIST returned in 2008 with the Evolution Unto Evil CD, a compilation of rare/live demo recordings and tributes to Kreator, Megadeth, and Possessed, which was co-released on Pathos Prod and Deathgasm Recs. This was followed by appearances at New England Deathfest and Hostile City Deathfest. In 2009, the band returned to Europe for their second European tour with label-mates Pandemia (CZ).

In between downtime with the band, founder/guitarist Kelly McLauchlin had also been a member of bands such as UNHOLY GHOST, DIABOLIC, filled in live with ANGELCORPSE, and had later joined Death Metal legends POSSESSED, touring with the band from 2011-2013.

In 2018, PESSIMIST returned to the stage at Maryland Deathfest, headlining Las Vegas Deathfest, Rage of Armageddon Fest (NY), and Ruinfest (CA), and in 2019 released a new single, Keys to the Underworld, which featured studio drummer Kevin Talley (Dying Fetus, Suffocation) and bassist Kelly Conlon (Monstrosity, Death).

Now, in their latest incarnation, the current PESSIMIST lineup includes founder/guitarist Kelly McLauchlin (I Am Morbid, Possessed, etc.), new bassist recruit Andrew Bowen (Carnal Necrosis), and vocalist Ivan Alison aka “The Evil One” (Black Mass).

The band is currently writing music for the next full-length album, ‘Keys to the Underworld’.

Acclaimed metal quartet SYLOSIS have released a live video ‘Pariahs’, from their latest album, A Sign Of Things To Come. The video was filmed at the band’s recent show in London supporting labelmates MALEVOLENCE.

Josh Middleton comments: “The London show was an amazing night for us. We’ve been waiting so long to play these new songs live and they’ve been going down so well- we’re performing the best we ever have! Pariahs is a live favourite for all of us.”

PARALINE is an alternative rock band with a spectacular genre-defying fusion of insightful lyrics and haunting melodies that carry a profound and symbolic undertone denouncing totalitarianism, imperialism, and barbarism. The band just signed a worldwide deal with Eclipse Records and they just premiered a new music video and single entitled “1999” which is a powerful statement about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the Middle East, and war itself. The band have also announced the availability of pre-orders for their upcoming EP album Sound Weapon which is scheduled to be released on March 1, 2024 via Eclipse Records.

“This was the loudest video shoot we ever did,” says bass guitarist Alex Shustoff. “We are a rock band and used to loud noise however, this was intense because we used real AK assault rifles with blank cartridges, and all the fire, explosions, and shots in the video were real. This is a very important song, because it is about the conflict in Ukraine so we wanted it to be accompanied by a music video. All our songs address serious themes and contemplate things that need to be discussed, but in today’s reality, this song is unfortunately particularly relevant. Since we film all our videos ourselves, we occasionally face limitations and difficulties that we don’t always manage to overcome. This time however, the theme is too serious to allow unclear expression.” Lead vocalist & guitarist Leo Andersen continues, “In this video, two opposing soldiers meet in open conflict. A battle ensues, and at its end, two indistinguishable people, literally enemies a minute ago, again take their original positions, ready for the cycle to repeat. The straight corridor symbolizes the inevitability of a direct confrontation, the absurd one-sidedness of all modern conflicts, and the lack of maneuvering space—people just clash head-on for no apparent reason, and the outcome is always the same. When anyone dies, it’s a tragedy because they lived, loved, grieved, worked, laughed, and then everything ended in a moment just because a total stranger declared them an enemy. They might have become the best of friends under different circumstances, who knows?”

The new EP titled Sound Weapon by alternative rock band Paraline is a battle cry straight from the soul. Packed into a military box featured on the album cover, this “weapon” thematically explores the glory and tragedy of mirrored duality through its music: parallel lines symmetrically perfect yet never connecting, like the brothers in the band. Musically, the groove is the key to the cages of the lockup, and it is scheduled for release on March 1, 2024. The regal guitars open the war-chest, and the vocals are a smooth and lustrous searchlight chasing fear to the shadows and demons back into their snake pits. TEMIC Release Video for ‘Through the Sands of Time’

TEMIC are already living up to their billing as prog’s new supergroup. Their debut album, Terror Management Theory, just topped the charts in the Netherlands and reached #15 on iTunes Worldwide Metal chart.

Today, TEMIC are releasing a stylish and scenic new video for “Through the Sands of Time”, the sweeping 7-minute opener from Terror Management Theory. The song showcases the full range of the band’s superpowers: melodic cleans, djenty riffs, keys that swirl and sizzle amid grooving technical breakdowns, not one but two arpeggiated guitar solos. They’re only one album in, but TEMIC are proving they really are the full package.

“Our drummer, Simen Sandnes, produced this music video in Iceland, exploring a visually aesthetic interpretation of “Through the Sands of Time”, says TEMIC.

“The chorus encourages the listener to let go of their past, to ‘burn it all’ in order to ‘fly high’ and ‘breathe life’. This contrasts with the melancholic nature of the verses, which reflect on the past and question the present: ‘What is true?’ Sometimes, we spend so much time regretting and reassessing that we forget the hourglass of our lives is constantly running.

Diego Tejeida and Eric Gilette first got the idea to start a band together when they were touring members of Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress. Here are just some of the nice things that their fellow road dog had to say about Terror Management Theory.

Their vision for TEMIC wasn’t exactly simple: synthesize their love for high-energy electronica and flashy riffs into a killer prog-metal hybrid. But after recruiting former soccer prodigy-turned-Zildjian-endorsed drummer Simen Sandnes (SHINING, Arkentype) to go along with the high-powered falsetto of Fredrik Bergersen (Maraton), together, the supergroup managed to connect all those puzzle pieces on their very first album.
