Progressive thrash metal band SIFTING (Los Angeles, USA) has just released a shredding new music video & single entitled “Silent Acquiescence“. The music video was directed by two-time Emmy Award winner Eduardo Osuna Gil. The single was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist). In this groundbreaking new single, Sifting has once again defied the boundaries of conventional music, pushing the genre of progressive metal to unfathomable heights of intensity, dexterity, and complexity…

Watch the new “Silent Acquiescence” music video by SIFTING via YouTube, and stream the single on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music at this location

“This is a song that we’ve been working on since before Covid even was a thing. You could say this song evolved with us throughout the pandemic, because the way it started was different from the finished product” says lead vocalist and guitarist Eduardo Osuna Gil. “with the music video for this song, we wanted to do something different, by taking on more serious topics that are personal to the four of us and poke a bit more fun at each other as well as the events that lead to it. We wore red objects to represent the blood (our own blood through centuries), that has been spilled for the better cause. Many of us in the world are given the “Choice” and “rights” to speak our mind and vote but that isn’t really what’s happening. It’s a facade, a masquerade, a game in which even if you think you are in control you are not. We have corrupt millionaires making those choices for us hence our voice is silenced. We are here to be controversial, to make a stand. It’s not about left or right, blue or red but about humanism and our rights. Rights to be human and to be alive. We each come from places where we have seen empires fall, corrupt militaries, police brutality and the rich abuse the poor. We are part of the poor and it’s all being masqueraded with facades of TikTok trends, extremist newscasts, lack of education, and the government wanting to keep us ignorant.” Guitarist Mo La Mastro adds, “It was super chill working with Eduardo as the video director, and the fact that he’s a member of the band probably added to that!. He was super-efficient and very concise about how each scene ought to be filmed, which made the whole process go super smoothly.”

“Silent Acquiescence” showcases Sifting’s unrivaled musical dexterity as they seamlessly blend intricate melodies with thunderous rhythms. From the first note, the band’s technical prowess is evident, intertwining lightning-fast riffs with mind-bending time signatures. The relentless assault of Joey Aguirre (drums) and Wins Jarquin (bass) forms a foundation of pure sonic devastation, while the searing dual-solos from guitarists Eduardo Gil and Mo La Mastro soar with virtuosic brilliance. But it is the vocals that truly captivate and elevate “Silent Acquiescence” to new heights. The lead singer’s powerful and versatile voice takes center stage, delivering a mesmerizing performance that ranges from haunting melodies to fierce expressions of raw emotion. “Silent Acquiescence” is a testament to Sifting’s unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of their genre. Their unique blend of progressive elements with thrash metal sensibilities creates a sonic landscape that is both aggressive and thought-provoking. This single serves as a glimpse into the band’s artistic evolution and sets the stage for their imminent dominance in the metal scene. Sifting proves once again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of progressive thrash metal. Surrender yourself to the immersive experience and let the music consume you, for Sifting has arrived, and they are ready to conquer all in their path.

VEXED Release Dynamic Third Single + Official Music Video ‘Trauma Euphoria’

UK alt-metal band VEXED have revealed their third new single, the dynamic “Trauma Euphoria”, together with an official music video! This Friday, the fast-rising act will drop their aggressive new offering, Negative Energy – the successor to their disturbingly honest, highly-lauded debut, Culling Culture.

Standout track “Trauma Euphoria” features some of the most impressive guitar work on the new album – heavier than ever before. Gifted lead vocalist Megan Targett’s brutal growls and beautiful, crystal clear clean vocals create an impactful contrast, captivating the listener.

Megan Targett on “Trauma Euphoria”:
“Experiencing a traumatic event or grieving a major loss comes with a myriad of feelings. Denial, depression, anger and sadness are the most common ones you hear about. However, there is one that I’ve found nobody speaks of; Euphoria. Small moments of time where you forget that you’re grieving and slip back into the person you were before the event. It’s like a euphoric experience that’s heightened by the fact your brain hasn’t felt any hit of dopamine in such a long time.

However, that sudden realization when you remember the trauma and snap out of the high has you crashing 10X harder. Feelings of guilt and shame take over and you fall deeper into the dark depths of your depression and grief. This dark place becomes a safe space in your mind, as leaving it can cause more pain and isn’t worth the fall. You can become addicted to suffering and this song is a love letter to it.”

Negative Energy achieves pinnacle musicianship and gripping, profound and brave lyricism. Instead of opting for forced positivity like many of their contemporaries, the Hertfordshire three-piece channel every ounce of their Negative Energy into these 13 tracks – recharging themselves for an uphill battle.

The band states:
“We are so proud to present to you our second album. Since our first release, we have each endured traumatic experiences, surrounded by death, betrayal, pain and grief.  In order to find any strength, we first had to accept that we weren’t okay, then take our trauma and face it head on, sharing our vulnerability, fears and weaknesses.  Instead of forcing ourselves to try and be positive we put all our negative energy into the album in order to begin our own repair and to overcome.”

Pre-order the devastatingly heavy Negative Energy NOW

Haunting intro track “PTSD” sets a stage of dread for the carnage to come, building up to the all-consuming, panic-stricken lead riff of crushing single “Anti-Fetish”. Blistering with disorderly intensity, VEXED confront the constant comparisons and ungrounded hate that bands receive. “We don’t talk about it” – featuring pitch-shifted verses emulating a disguised voice – explores childhood trauma and survivor’s guilt. “Panic attack” centers on mental health issues, representing terror and frustration through heavy riffs and grooving vocals. Furious “Lay down your flowers” (feat. Alpha Wolf vocalist Lochie Keogh) showcases extreme vocals and bombarding drums, while disturbingly groovy following track “There’s no place like home” draws inspiration from ‘The Wizard of Oz’. The unbelievably heavy “Extremist” gets straight to the point, kicking off with fast and demanding vocal rhythms, while “Default”, on the other hand, displays multifaceted lead singer-to-watch Megan Targett’s high-soaring clean vocals juxtaposed against her menacing deep growls. The album’s most emotional offering, “It’s Not The End”, serves as a magnificent dedication to a loved one passing away while manifesting their legacy, before sliding into instrumental interlude “DMT” – cradled by lo-fi beats with hints of 808, delivered in fresh VEXED style. Intense album finale “Nepotism” wraps up Negative Energy with a knot of rage before slowly fading out into darkness. Negative Energy proves itself as a stunning, devastating musical conduit – ventilating the band’s pain-stricken burdens and breathing life into their fresh approach, delivered with a vengeance.

1. PTSD
2. Anti-Fetish

MASTER BOOT RECORD Announce European Tour in November

There are few truly unique musical artists, but the music made by Italian producer Victor Love as MASTER BOOT RECORD arguably exists in a category of its own. Fans of that music were finally able to see the full live band in all of its CRT and chiptune glory throughout Europe in February.

Now MASTER BOOT RECORD announces their return to the stages in November. See below for full dates.

Founder/producer Victor Love is excited: “After our first European tour went so great and beyond any expectations we are excited to announce we’ll be back spreading the code across Europe again in November, bringing our synth metal, computers and crts across other countries were we have never been so far!“

“For the first time we’ll hit Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Hungary as well as several cities of Germany and Netherlands we did miss during the first leg and we can’t wait to meet you all! We’ll be also bringing a slightly longer set and getting ready to perform new songs out of our extensive discography. Don’t forget to bring your floppy disks. We’ll bring ours.“

Founder/producer Victor Love adds: “The live sound of MASTER BOOT RECORD is the result of combining synth guitars and chiptune leads from studio album written by myself via MIDI with live performed guitars playing in sync with them. This is especially challenging for lead guitar parts that aren’t written according to natural guitar playing positions. By combining synthesizers and real instruments (baritone guitar, lead guitar and drums) the live show of MBR is a different experience from the studio albums that are instead 100% synthesized.“

Additionally, live videos from the tour have been appearing on YouTube, including a performance of “FTP” from Nantes, France on the band’s official channel:

About MASTER BOOT RECORD:
Helmed solely by technologist/songwriter Victor Love, MASTER BOOT RECORD is, if anything, creatively prolific. The follow-up to Floppy Disk Overdrive (2020), PERSONAL COMPUTER is Love’s latest offering since emerging as an 8-bit ghost from the bulletin board system (BBS) scene in 2016. Now, he’s returned to right-click on devotees with yet another easter egg and symbolism-rich mélange of intensely ornate yet driving digital orchestrations. Just don’t call PERSONAL COMPUTER synthwave, or whatever new-fangled term is being used to describe MASTER BOOT RECORDs masterful video game-like scoring. To put it simply: this is metal done with a synth.

“The main elements include chiptune, demoscene & video game music, thrash/death metal and some black metal as well as classical and symphonic patterns and progressive structures. But everything is programmed and done with synthesizers.” The result, influenced as much by classical baroque music, bay area thrash metal, and Commodore 64 games, is a frenzied mashup of what logic suggests should be disparate sounds, but in the hands of MBR make sense, taking the listener in unexpected and always thrilling directions, smashing through genre walls.

HANGING GARDEN Post ‘The Journey’ Sing-Through Video

Watch Riikka & Toni of Finnish doom/death metal force HANGING GARDEN sing through the song “The Journey”, taken from the band’s new album “The Garden”, out now on Agonia Records. The video can be found below.

HANGING GARDEN formed in 2004, starting out as a heavy, doom-oriented project. Roughly two decades, seven albums and a couple of line-up shuffles later, the band shifted to a more melodic, contemporary sound, surrounded by a veil of melancholy.

The compositions are dark, atmospheric & emotional, and concomitantly lean towards open-minded and playful musicality. While entrenched in metal’s doom, gothic and melodeath branches, HANGING GARDEN displays a versatile, many-layered style of playing, packs female & male vocals, and draws influence & inspiration from music and art, far and wide.

The new album – “The Garden” – dives deep into atmospheres both “tender and harsh, devilish and serene” and “embarks upon a journey to mankind’s spiritual roots, contemplating the fragility of our technological society” – as poetically described by the band. “There is a kind of energy in the songs that there wasn’t before,” introspects Toni Hatakka of HANGING GARDEN. “A feel of hope to contrast our old friend the despair, a strong notion of action against the familiar melancholy, or maybe a light amidst the comfortable gloom…” Read Toni‘s full comment below.

“After almost two decades of dwelling in the musical and lyrical thematics of despair, loss and melancholy, I had the feeling that our next release could have some room for hope and light as well – of course not forgetting our trademark-ish somber aesthetic. The approach we decided to take was to weave a story of how humanity would still thrive, still find meaning, after the world as we know it has finally met its end.”

Artwork by Kalle Pyyhtinen

“Exploring the rituals, belief systems, connection to nature, finding purpose in just being and surviving were the cornerstones of how The Garden came to be. Another strong theme is that of dreams; since childhood, I’ve had this recurring dream world with a silent feel of stagnation, colossal constructs of rust, the action of journeying to the unknown, and lush nature. This is where I also draw a lot of what ended up on the album. The lyrics written by Riikka also amalgamated into this aesthetic perfectly. Even the name was given to me in a dream. Back in spring, I had a dream where our keyboardist Nino and I had a talk about this being our Magnum Opus and that we should call it The Garden. Such a powerful notion could not be left unheeded, and so the album had its name. The Garden is at the same time familiar and atypical for us. There is a kind of energy in the songs that there wasn’t before, a feel of hope to contrast our old friend the despair, a strong notion of action against the familiar melancholy, or maybe a light amidst the comfortable gloom. But in the end, this is us.”

“The Garden”, the follow-up to “Skeleton Lake” (2021), was produced by Jussi Hämäläinen (vocals, guitars) and Jarno Hänninen. The album was mixed and mastered by the latter at D-studio  (Beherit,  Shape of Despair). Cover artwork and new band photos are by Finnish artist Kalle Pyyhtinen. “The Garden” marks the return of new-old drummer Antti Ruokola, last seen in HANGING GARDEN seven years ago.

HANGING GARDEN may appeal to fans of Swallow the Sun, Ghost Brigade, October Tide,  Katatonia and Type 0 Negative.

Indie Recordings shared:

June has hit Oslo hard, and as we are melting away in the sun, we have some blazing hot news – we are venturing on brand new adventures with Norwegian stoner punk crusaders BOKASSA this summer! We are super stoked to welcome this hard working and ferocious gang to our label.

Erlend Gjerde CEO of Indie Recordings comment:
“Hell Yeah! Bokassa bring the stonerpunk to Indie Recordings! We`re thrilled to start working with them and their amazing team on their coming albums.
Let`s go!!”

Through heavy touring, high technicality and unique punkified take on stoner metal, Bokassa has managed to build an impressive career in no time.

Following a furious and hard-hitting EP “War on Everything” (2015) Bokassa released their critically acclaimed debut album “Divide & Conquer” in 2017 which caused an avalanche of attention around the Norwegian band.

Their sophomore album “Crimson Riders” followed in 2019 and did not disappoint.

2019 also marks the year when the band got handpicked by Lars Ulrich to support Metallica alongside Ghost on their summer stadium tour all over Europe, UK and Russia. The legendary drummer hailed them as “his favourite new band” and described them as “Insanely fucking cool” after hearing the trios first album Divide & Conquer.

In 2020 they released the digital EP «Live At The BBC» from their BBC Radio 1 live session recorded at the legendary Maida Vale studio in London, and the band was also nominated for a Norwegian Grammy as «Breakthrough of the year».

The following year they released their third album «Molotov Rocktail».

The record went to number 18 on the Norwegian album charts, like previous releases this album was met by great enthusiasm from international media.

Metal Hammer stated:
«With such eminent replayability, Molotov Rocktail threatens to burst the bubble separating ‘classic – sounding’ records and straight – up classics, easily delivering the most fun stoner record since Monster Magnet’s Powertrip in the process.»

All through their career the band has been an extremely active and potent live band.

Bokassa have played some of the world’s biggest rock & metal festivals like Wacken, Hellfest, Download, Rockfest,Tons of Rock.

And they have toured all over Europe and Norway, supported the likes of Mastodon, Baroness, Judas Priest, Zebrahead and off course Metallica.

We are really exited to join them on further adventures, the journey has only just begun!

Philippines’ POLYMERASE Release Two Albums “Dreams And Realities [I & II]”

Dreams And Realities is a two part album project by Philippine stoner rock group POLYMERASE. The band started recording in 2021 and the idea was to create a story of a traveler in space that was able to experience time differently thus the track Space Carousel. Other tracks such as Blade Of The Demon God, The Sage and Evil Hand are part of the journey where the traveler in space was able to reflect within himself and then becoming a sage using the negative and positive force of the universe through the blade of the demon god. Evil Hand is the representation of the dark emotions of the human nature, even though humanity will strive to be good there will be an ego that will pull him down into himself which will either be for his survival or for selfish reasons.

Part II is about the psychiatric aspect of the project. The beginning is the continuing journey reflecting the society thus the creating of Children Of Terra. It is the process of questioning what has become of humanity itself. It is like asking what have we been doing for the past years that would make our lives significant in all existence. Dreams And Realities is a track where a certain individual gets lost in his own dreams that opens up a new reality for him. The person gets lost in his own reality and he cannot perceive what is real in his waking life, thus becoming schizophrenic. The track, Zodiac Queen is the devotion of a person to someone in his darkest situation. It is where at the point of addiction for a certain person, even the relationship becomes too toxic that he still stays until eventually getting eaten by the darkness that he himself has given. The last track is about experimental drugs that enhances your psychic potential. It is all about traveling within yourself and finding a peace resembling heaven.

All tracks have instrumental counterpart so if one person smokes while listening he/she would be able to reflect more through the vibrations of the music.

Dreams And Realities I Tracklist:
01. Space Carousel | 02. The Sage | 03. Blade Of The Demon God | 04. Evil Hand | 05. Space Carousel (Instrumental) | 06. The Sage (Instrumental) | 07. Blade Of The Demon God (Instrumental) | 08. Evil Hand (Instrumental)

Dreams And Realities II Tracklist:
01. Children Of Terra | 02. Dreams And Realities | 03. Zodiac Queen | 04. Riding The Crystals Of Heaven | 05. Children Of Terra (Instrumental) | 06. Dreams And Realities (Instrumental) | 07. Zodiac Queen (Instrumental) | 08. Riding The Crystals Of Heaven (Instrumental)
