Motivated by a desire to explore their own artistic style and venture into new territories, SYLVATICA releases today their third album, titled “Cadaver Synod”. This record delves into the dark tales of the Middle Ages, incorporating elements such as the haunting sounds of church organs, theremin, and Gregorian chants.

The result is a set of gloomy and atmospheric compositions, enriched by the addition of Hammond organs and synthesizers, evoking a nostalgic 70s vibe with occasional doom influences. The production on this album is intentionally rawer compared to their previous works, emphasizing the organic and atmospheric aspects while embracing a more playful approach. Despite these changes, the band’s distinctive classic sound remains present, revitalized with a fresh and exciting twist.

Sylvatica has been creating captivating melodies and delivering breathtaking solos since 2009 when the band was formed by a group of childhood friends who were enamored with the folk-metal movement of the late 2000s. The band made their debut with the folk-infused EPs “Sagn & Sagaer” and “Mosemanden,” followed closely by the melodic death metal-inspired album “Evil Seeds.” During this period, they embarked on tours with renowned Danish folk-metal bands. 

Having gained extensive experience from numerous concerts and studio sessions, the band released their refined album “Ashes and Snow” in 2021, receiving accolades from both Danish and international music publications. This album showcased exceptional Finnish-inspired melodic death metal, marking a significant milestone in Sylvatica’s career. Until now, when “Cadaver Synod” comes like a hurricane into Sylvatica’s discography.

Witchy Blues + Gothic Folk Artist EMMALEEN Conjures Magic with New Album Release “The Sun Will Still Shine When You Die”

Born in 1991 in Namibia, EMMALEEN is a force to be reckoned with in the world of independent music. As a solo artist, she has crafted a unique and enchanting niche in the realm of witchy blues and gothic folk. Following the success of her debut album Songs from the Unseen, the Unsaid and the Unborn in 2022, Emmaleen has continued to captivate audiences with her evocative storytelling and haunting melodies.
 
In February 2023, she unveiled The Other Side, a mesmerizing recording from 2015 that showcases the artist’s early mastery of her craft. This release served as a tantalizing prelude to her latest full-length album, The Sun will Still Shine When You Die.

The journey into the shadows continues with the release of the first three singles from the upcoming album. ‘Wailing Trees,’ ‘Sister Sister,’ and ‘Timesickness’ were unveiled in August and September 2023, giving fans a taste of the ethereal landscapes and mystical narratives that await them. The Sun will Still Shine When You Die promises to be an inner journey into the realms of magic realism and spiritual introspection. Produced and engineered by Ruan Vos (Sonic Nursery) the recording process took four days – nine hours a day of live recording and overdubbing. All songs were recorded live with guitar, banjo or piano and vocals in two to four takes. Emmaleen wrote the bass lines during the recording process on acoustic bass. The percussion was improvised with handmade instruments and a kick drum.
 
Being the only guest musician, Lliezel Ellick performed cello on ‘Wailing Trees’. It was Emmaleen’s intention to keep the music as clean and natural sounding as possible with an analogue ‘hands on’ approach. The process still allowed room for spontaneous creativity in the moment.
 
Emmaleen chose to record very quickly to capture a small window in time of focused energy. “If I became too self-aware my performance would suffer – having a tight deadline gave me no time to think and forced me to feel my way through. We purposely left in certain sounds we liked such as; clearing my throat or the sound of my shoes shuffling. This being part of the music and the nature of live recording.” She comments.

The album serves as the next chapter in Emmaleen’s artistic evolution, an amalgamation of old styles giving birth to something both timeless and fresh. In a deliberate departure from instant consumer culture, The Sun Will Still Shine When you Die invites audiences to embrace the deliberate and savor the nuances of a musical journey that defies the ordinary.

THE MONARCH Premiere Video for First Single ‘Dark Heart Phenomena’ from Upcoming Album

THE MONARCH have released their first single “Dark Heart Phenomena” off of their upcoming full-length album. The brainchild of drummer Dave Kinkade, The Monarch also features vocalist Chris Clancy (Mutiny Within), guitarist Marco Martell (ex-Malevolent Creation), guitarist Marc Rizzo (ill Nino, ex-Soulfly) and bassist Tony Campos (Static-X/ Fear Factory, ex-Soulfly). The album was recorded by producer Vincent Ippolito (guitarist-Glacier) at Swift Road Studios in Arlington Heights Illinois and mixed & mastered by producer Chris Collier (KoЯn/Whitesnake/Prong)  at CMC21 Productions in Las Vegas Nevada.

About THE MONARCH:

Formed in 2003, The Monarch is the brainchild of drummer Dave Kinkade. Although not quite commonplace having a band crafted by a drummer, that is just one of the many qualities that makes The Monarch stand out when it comes to modern day heavy metal. Kinkade’s sonic vision derives from the combining of elements from inspirational bands like Metallica, Pantera, Dissection and Opeth, and has turned The Monarch sound into a progressive, melodic form of timeless heavy metal with an “always epic” approach. Every song needs to live in its own world. Starting with that perfect “hook” riff for the verse and giving it a monumental chorus that will burn its way into the humming minds of even the most casual of listeners.

Although drafted 20 years ago, the project was always placed on the back burner for Kinkade to focus on already established bands including Soulfly, Borknagar, Arsis, Council of the Fallen, Divine Empire and Malevolent Creation. In 2012, Kinkade took an 8-year hiatus from music after his tenure as the drummer for Soulfly during their Enslaved album era so he could focus on family and eventually have lower back surgery, which plagued him for the years leading up after a bicycling injury when he lived in The Netherland in 2007.

In 2020, he decided to come back to playing music and chose to make The Monarch, his musical priority. 2021 saw the release of debut album “All the World’s Pain”, a collection of material that Kinkade had been writing since the formation of the band. Soon after the first release, writing for a follow-up album began. It was decided to continue with musicians not only of the highest caliber, but guys who had been around the block and know what months on end of touring feels like. Granted there were some talented players on the first album, but you cannot expect a guy with a career as an EMT and a family to put his life on hold to go touring.

As the crafting of new material progressed, Kinkade’s former Soulfly bandmate, guitarist Marc Rizzo (Ill Niño, Soulfly) approached him about playing music together again. It was agreed that The Monarch would be the ideal collaborative project, as Rizzo‘s aggressive, yet soulful, guitar style would be the perfect complement to the band’s sound. Soon after, bassist Tony Campos (Static-X/ Fear Factory) was invited into the fold as Kinkade, Rizzo and Campos had all previously worked together in Soulfly. Campos provides a punishing low end and would prove to be another perfect fit for The Monarch sound. Guitarist Marco Martell also joined the band shortly before the studio sessions began. Martell and Kinkade played together in Malevolent Creation (2005-2006) and share many similar influences. Topping off the lineup would be vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Chris Clancy (Mutiny Within) who had previously been approached by Kinkade about singing in the early 2000’s. Clancy’s experience and exceptionally well-rehearsed talent was welcomed to the band, and he is proving himself as one of the best singers on the planet through his performance on the album. The album was mixed and mastered by legendary producer Chris Collier (KoRn/ Whitesnake/ Prong). Now in the end of 2023, the band intends on supporting the release of the album by planning the live debut for 2024.

DEAD POET SOCIETY Announce New Album “Fission”, Share Two Singles ‘I Hope You Have Me’ + ‘How Could I Love You?’

After a decade defining, redefining, and perfecting their art, Fission finds Dead Poet Society poised to be rock’s next breakout act. The album is a 13-track study of personal change and the turbulence of growth that, as frontman Jack Underkofler attests, takes “a microscopic and broad look at the events that changed who we are.”

Today, the band has dropped two singles — “I hope you hate me.” and “How Could I Love You?“

Both songs address the sometimes bittersweet, more often simply bitter, fallout from a tumultuous relationship. The latter is an excruciating yet intoxicating journey, backed by searing guitars, while the former addresses the aftermath of a relationship.

The video for “I hope you hate me” features dancer and breakout social media star This Robot Cannot Human, whose carefully choreographed moves perfectly reflect the song’s tension and slow, calculated build up. The track effortlessly mixes a subtle take on ’80s nu wave with alt rock fury, thanks to pulsating riffs and drumbeats that echo your own heartbeat.

Ultimately, Underkofler says the band has one mission for fans and listeners of the new album: “We want to leave them with the truth.”

Further elaborating on the concept, he says, “It’s not as simple as saying we want our music to leave people with a positive outlook. You want music to speak to wherever you find yourself. We want to leave people feeling that whatever they are experiencing is valid, no matter what place they are at in their lives.”

To that end, there are deep rakings over the coals of relationship breakdowns, examinations of addiction in all its guises, ruminations on the responsibilities and challenges of adulthood, and struggles with the evolution, loss and continual search for self. “In a lot of ways this album is about unpacking those emotional pains that come with being an adult,” Underkofler says. “The past few years have left me in a constant state of growth through the life events of which I’ve had little control, or which didn’t pan out the way I wanted them to. There’s a ‘before’ you, and an ‘after’ you, and there’s no going back. Life tends to force your hand, and it’s futile to fight it. You have to accept that things that happen to you will change you, and let them build you into the next phase of who you are. There is a constant battle to not mourn who I was, because the things you go through define you as a person and turn you into a person worth being. But that can be difficult to wrestle with. There is a positive to it, but it is birthed through a lot of pain.”

While the lyrics are fully relatable, the music is a DNA-distinct blend of anthemic alternative, dark and moody hard rock, and progressive indie. FISSION is truly unlike anything you’ve heard in recent times.
