WATAIN Release Video for ‘Ecstasies In Night Infinite (Live)’

Ruthless Swedish black metal collective WATAIN has shared a second single from the upcoming live album, Die In Fire – Live In Hell, out November 3rd 2023 through Nuclear Blast Records. The live version of ‘Ecstasies in Night Infinite’, the ferocious opening track of WATAIN’s latest album, The Agony And Ecstasy Of Watain, coincides with the release of another music video for the single, once again directed by Johan Bååth.

Erik Danielsson commented:
“With the videos for the live album we have attempted to convey at least a fraction of the primal psychedelic malevolence that possess us when we perform.
The majority of the footage is from the same concert in Stockholm at which the album was recorded. It was then slaughtered and remolded by the skilled and manic artists credited at the end of the video. Turn off your mind, shut out the modern world and dissappear into these analogue nightmare visions of darkness and ecstasy.“

“Surussa Uinuva is a track about loathing in melancholy and / or depression. The more you give to it, the more it takes. Keeping mental gaze locked in positive is the true minds reign – the soundtrack is deliberately quite fast paced indulged with anxious movement and arrangement that describes well the struggle or escape to a more balanced mindset. The question in this song  “who will wake up the one quiescent in sorrow” – that is the one experiencing it, keeping in mind that circumstances may create a bubble that sometimes needs to be popped from outside. So the point is that even depression can be a personal reaction to extrapersonal conditions that needs to be sorted oneself, so let‘s make this life better for everyone and keep in mind that the burden is not always seen from the outside, so comprehension or compassion without direct interference goes a long way also.”

This song contains both beliefs and truth,” the band reveals.

“We are afraid to show who we really are and what we really think, because different people, systems and groups spy on us and what we do. So, we hide from each other behind masks. We all have to play this game and at the moment the reality is quite similar to various spy movies. So we all live undercovered in different ways.

The inspiration for this song comes from both real life and various spy movies.”

Icelandic NYRST Reveal Details of Upcoming Sophomore Album “Völd”

When NYRST released their debut full-length album “Orsök” in 2020, the Icelandic Black Metallers demonstrated a ferocious musical ability that was unusual for a band so early in their career.  Filled with deliciously dark melodies and intense vocals, “Orsök” clearly signposted the path that the band was destined to follow in its musical endeavours.

And NYRST’s follow up album “Völd” builds on the band’s early promise, and the desire of its members – Snæbjörn on vocals,  Eysteinn and Davíð on guitars, Egill on bass, and Sveinbjörn on drums, to create the coldest, most eerie and barren of soundscapes possible. 

As the band explains from their base in Reykjavik:

This release marks a big milestone in our career as a band. We’ve developed a lot as musicians since the release of “Orsök” and we took a very different approach to writing and composition. Our intention was to bring all the best elements of our previous work and implement new ideas along with a different theme, which in turn resulted in a much heavier, grim but melodic album.

Being based in Reykjavik has no doubt helped NYRST’s ambition to bear fruit, because  “Völd” was written and rehearsed within a few kilometres of an active, lava-spewing,  volcano, whose very presence has allowed the band to draw inspiration from a stark landscape whose beauty is underscored by a brooding, ever-present, danger.

“Völd”, which, roughly translated, means  “force, power or might”, is an unapologetic homage to Iceland’s immense volcanoes.  Its music conjures forth images of the unrelenting and unforgiving harshness of nature that has dominated every living being in this land.

Extol, the pioneering death metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1993, gained rapid recognition in the extreme metal scene for their innovative fusion of intricate technicality, melodic sensibilities, and faith-based lyrics.

Over the years, Extol’s distinctive style evolved, incorporating elements of progressive metal, black metal, thrash, and avant-garde influences. Undeceived (2000) and Synergy (2003) explored complex song structures, while The Blueprint Dives (2005) took a more avant-garde and progressive rock direction, yet still retaining their metal roots, earning them their first Norwegian Grammy nomination.

Despite lineup changes, Extol remained committed to defying genre conventions.

In 2013, they returned with a self-titled album, receiving critical acclaim for its technical prowess and progressive approach, earning global respect for their musicianship.

Their enduring legacy continues to inspire new generations of metal musicians, as they now prepare to release two freshly composed songs. LABYRINTH OF ILL and EXIGENCY will be released October 12th 2023, featuring Christer’s return alongside David, Ole, and Peter.
