Coming hot on the heels of their latest digital track, THE ANSWER continue their full-frontal comeback assault with the release of a second full media single ‘Livin’ On The Line‘, released on January 27th 2023. The new single will pre-empt their highly anticipated new album, Sundowners, the first in seven years, due to be released on St. Patrick’s Day March 17th, 2023. ‘Livin’ On The Line‘, produced and mixed by rising British rock producer Dan Weller (Enter Shikari, Bury Tomorrow) is a thumping foot stomper of a track and is accompanied by a video, shot in Paris, directed by Jonny Finnis from JF Films.

The band also recently announced a very special run of limited capacity UK and European album shows in March 2023 with both Belfast and London already sold out. Says Neeson, “We had a blast recording and making the video for this ‘Livin’ On The Line.’ The song harks back to our days on the road when everything we was an incessant dash from show to show, market to market all living on the edge, fuelled by alcohol and rock ‘n’ roll! The song is about getting through one of those days when you know that just making it out the other side in once piece is achievement enough. It’s been great to make a fresh return after seven years and we’ve got that hunger and desire back to get out in front of our fans with what we think is some of our best music ever!”

The album will be released by Golden Robot Records Pty and by licensee 7Hz Productions(ADA) in the UK & Europe. It will come in several physical formats including vinyl and CD.

The band’s first media single of the album “Blood Brother” has received great radio airplay achieving playlists on Planet Rock Radio UK and several German radio stations including Rock Antenne, Radio BOB!, Star FM Hamburg and Berlin, amassing over 3,500 plays since release in October 2022. The track recently peaked at #2 in the German rock airplay charts just before end of December.

VISCERA Return with Powerful New Single ‘Rats with Wings’ + Announce New Album “Carcinogenesis”

UK metal powerhouse VISCERA have announced the release of their highly anticipated new album Carcinogenesis, out 3rd March via Unique Leader Records. They have also unveiled their powerful new single / video ‘Rats with Wings’.

Pre-order Carcinogenesis here: orcd.co/carcinogenesis

Watch ‘Rats with Wings’ here:

Vocalist Jamie Graham comments on the album: “Carcinogenesis has been a long time coming! There’s been a ton of changes since the release of [debut album] Obsidian in terms of both the band’s plans and how we’ve approached writing. Musically we’ve tried a few new things in terms of tempos and key.”

“We’ve had Charlie Michael join on guitar who has brought a few new additions to the Viscera sound on this record. He’s a massive shredder so there’s some insane lead guitar between him and Adam.

“We’ve gone a little more over the top with use of melody and atmosphere. There was also a decision to bring it as heavy as we could on a couple of songs to balance that dynamic out. ‘Demon Queen’ is almost completely clean singing!”

On the album’s concept, he continues: “Lyrically/thematically, this album continues on from Obsidian with Delilah’s soul reaping cover. This time the energy she has gathered feeds her tyrannical partner, who in turn uses the newly absorbed life force to corrupt all around him. Metaphorically it’s a statement of how humanity tends to feed of others only then to tear itself apart.”

On the new single ‘Rats with Wings’ he concludes: “This one was the first song we wrote for the record. The title refers to a term used for disease-spreading birds – just like people using power to corrupt others. We wanted a rapid-fire song to introduce the album as it sets the pace for the rest. There’s a nice mix of speed, heaviness and melody.”

Track listing:

1. Carcinogenesis
2. Rats with Wings
3. Layers of Skin
4. Resolver
5. Omnipotence
8. Sungazer
7. Lex Talionis
8. Demon Queen
9. On Earth as it is in Hell

Featuring former members of Heart of a Coward, Abhorrent Decimation, Nervecell and Surfaces – Viscera formed in 2019.

Inspired by Pantera, Meshuggah, At The Gates, The Black Dahlia Murder and Killswitch Engage, Viscera combine these influences with modern tech death and deathcore flavours. Combined with a potent blend of watertight syncopation, Viscera undoubtedly a powerful emerging force to be reckoned with.

Already with touring miles under their belts, the band featured on the FACES OF DEATH TOUR with Decapitated, Beyond Creation, Ingested and Lorna Shore, across the UK and Europe in March 2020, which was cut short by COVID. The band returned post-pandemic with a UK headline tour, and then a full EU tour supporting Decapitated and Despised Icon.

The band next head out on their debut US run on the Unique Legion tour in 2023.

Viscera are:

Vocals – Jamie Graham
Guitar – Charlie Michael
Guitar – Adam Bell

Oakland, CA blackened progressive metal band DAWN OF OUROBOROS have announced their upcoming second album, Velvet Incandescence, due out on April 21 via Prosthetic Records. Alongside the album announcement, DAWN OF OUROBOROS are currently premiering the lead single’s accompanying music video, Rise from Disillusion, via Knotfest.

Speaking on the announcement and premiere, DAWN OF OUROBOROS‘ Tony Thomas (guitar / synths) comments: “We are happy to reveal the first song, Rise from Dissolution, from our upcoming album. We hope to have developed on our brand of harsh beauty. Bringing emotionally aggressive genre-bending metal mixed with plenty of dynamics.”

Formed in 2018 by Tony Thomas (Botanist, Cailleach Calling) and vocalist Chelsea Murphy (Cailleach Calling, Tegmentum), DAWN OF OUROBOROS’ formative years saw the band solidify their core lineup to a five-piece before releasing their debut album, The Art of Morphology, in 2020. The Art of Morphology showcased the young band’s penchant for hybridising the extreme and canorous qualities of progressive, atmospheric black and death metal, ushering in a warm reception from both fans and critics.

Invigorated by the response to their debut album DAWN OF OUROBOROS came together in November 2021 to commence recording of Velvet Incandescence, once again opting to team up with Nick Loiacono at Fang Studios in San Mateo, CA for recording and mixing, before being mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Oathbreaker, Bosse De Nage) at The Atomic Garden Studio. Placing an emphasis on melody and feel above technical virtuosity, Velvet Incandescence’s eight tracks revel in sanguine triumph both musically and lyrically.

Album highlights Rise from Disillusion and Iron Whispers both rise and fall with a beguilingly ethereal quality, thanks to additional vocals provided in the form of a choir. Elsewhere, precise and calculated bursts of tremolo picking and resplendent lead guitar from both Thomas and Ian Baker (Red Rot) coalesce in dizzying fashion on Testudines. Rhythmically bolstered by the talents of David Scanlon (Deliria) on bass and Ron Bertrand (Botanist, Red Rot) on drums, album closer Velvet Moon musically encompasses Velvet Incandescence’s dual nature of serenity and volatility.

Both lyrically and vocally, DAWN OF OUROBOROS’ Chelsea Murphy interfuses a deeply personal approach with the cosmic and universally human need for healing and a feeling of home across the album’s 46 minute runtime, with tactful hope and heart at the forefront of all things over solemnity and resignation. The thematic melding of the universal and personal is conveyed in arresting fashion by album cover artist Jilly Colbert at Manfish Inc.

Three years on from their debut statement, DAWN OF OUROBOROS’ latest offering refines and redefines their sound. Velvet Incandescence will no doubt serve as a luminous spark for the quintet’s increasingly bright future.

Velvet Incandescence tracklist:
1. Healing Grounds
2. Testudines
3. Iron Whispers
4. Levitating Pacifics
5. Rise from Disillusion

THE REVENANTS Sign Worldwide Deal with El Puerto Records, New Album in Spring 2023, First Video Revealed

THE REVENANTS, the new band around “End Of Green” icon Michelle Darkness signs a worldwide contract with the South German Rock & Metal label EL PUERTO RECORDS. The debut album will be released in spring 2023.

Fitting to the signing of the contract, the band also presents the first tidbit from the upcoming album, watch the official video ‘Ghosts’ below.

Marc Ayerle narrates on behalf of the whole band:
“A liasion  far more than ‚business as usual‘. Since our first conversation we realized the immense lifeblood those guys are pumping into their work. Absolutely Contagious! We are really looking forward to our collaboration and can hardly wait to bring our new album to you.”

Label founder Torsten Ihlenfeld answers almost ecstatically: “In  a perfect world, “The Revenants” would be the next big thing for the rock arenas of the world. In a perfect world, those songs would soon lead the charts of the world. Make your world a little bit more perfect and listen to “The Revenants”! Those guys recorded a mindblowing album that definitely is a must-listen when you are a real rock music lover! Welcome aboard guys! Welcome @ El Puerto Records – The Revenants!”

Spring 2018. No big intro, no fanfare and no sensational announcment.

The two longtime soulbrothers, italian-rooted guitar wizard Fabiano Arganese and Marc Ayerle, guitarist, producer and live sound engineer for decades, started to jam around in Marcs own klangmanufaktur studios. There was no plan, no concept, nor any rules or genre typical limitations. The guiding light was the music itself, the song was taking control over the path which shall be followed.
After the first weekend session, four songs were written and completely recorded. A great glimpse of delight, which led to further deliberations. So Marc decided to ask one of his best and nearest friends, Michelle Darkness, well-known voice of Southern German Gloomsters “End of Green” (Marc is doing their live sound engineering for nearly 20 years now), to try some vocals on those. It was a perfect match. The Songs began to breath and it all started to gain contour. The rest seemed really to be predictable. The songwriting and production went like a breeze. 20 songs were finished and … The Revenants was born!

Line-up:
Michelle Darkness | Vocals
Fabiano Arganese | Guitars, Keys
Marc Ayerle | Guitars, Keys, Bass, Drums

OATH OF CRANES (Ft. Ex-Celtic Frost Members) Announce Debut Album “The Unsung Mantras” + Stream New Single

Posted by tarjavirmakari on January 29, 2023

OATH OF CRANES – the new band from ex-Celtic Frost drummer Franco Sesa and ex-Celtic Frost guitarist Erol Ünala – turn doom metal on its head.

The band combine Sesa‘s passion for eastern traditional music – particularly the mantra chants of Tibetan monks – with his love for hard rock to create a genuinely innovative wall of sound.

The band reveal their debut album The Unsung Mantras will be released 21st April via Klang Machine Records. In celebration, Oath Of Cranes have released their new single ‘Akasha’, the second single from the album.

Stream ‘Akasha’ and pre-order the record here: https://oathofcranes.lnk.to/akasha

‘Akasha’ fuses metal attitude with the Eastern emphasis on the healing effects of music, creating something much more than simply entertainment. Metal was and is survival, family and religion. It is a healer and a way of life. Oath Of Cranes pay homage to that music and those keeping it alive despite rejection by mainstream society.

Sesa comments: “‘Akasha’, the essence of life. The sonorous attempt of an appreciation of our mystical, magnificent collective experience called: life. To reflect mindfully and fall into what true life can be, could be. To feel it, smell it, hear it, touch it and to see it should shock each of us to the bone. The appreciation can only be too narrow.”

The songs on The Unsung Mantras are dark and disturbing, yet beautiful and healing: traditional instruments and sounds from Asian heritage and cultures with shamanic roots, including singing bowls, horns and Tibetan monks’ chants, support the powerful and innovative metal celebrated on the album. The result vividly underscores the album’s Daoism-inspired concept and the band’s broader cultural influences, such as the choice of Sanskrit for song titles, imagery inspired by the Sadhu tradition, and the tribute to the uplifting virtues described by the iconography of Hindu deities. The Oath Of the Cranes is a promise: good death follows a good life.

Tracklisting:
1: Jivara (The Great Fever)
2: Rudra (The Superior Proposal)
3: Yama (Sacrifice of Introspection)
4: Krodhana – Noone Will Ever Miss You
5: Ahamkara (Who’s That Ugly Face in the Mirror)
6: Puja – Celebrate the Negation of Hope
7: Tamas (Obfuscation of the Third Eye)
8: Maya Pt 1 – To Cultivate Your Illusions
9: Maya Pt 2 – To Cultivate Your Disillusions
10: Akasha – Everything Holy is Profane
11: Kali (The Infinite Cycle of Transformation)
12: Sannyasi Mantra (Elegy of the Enlightened)

The record was produced by Oath Of Cranes, engineered at Switzerland’s New Sound Studio by Tommy Vetterli (Coroner, Eluveitie, Cellar Darling & more), and mastered at Sweden’s Fascination Street Studios by Tony Lindgren (Sepultura, Kreator, Witchcraft & more).

Oath Of Cranes are:
Franco Sesa (ex-Celtic Frost): Drums, songwriting, lyrics and concept
Erol Ünala (ex-Celtic Frost and Apollyon Sun): Guitar, sampling and drones
Chris Tragianidis: Rhythm and lead guitar, bass and keyboards
Fabrizio Merico: Lead vocals, video production and graphics

VORNA Reveal First Single + Album Details for New Album “Aamunkoi”

Finnish melodic metal outfit VORNA reveal first single and album details for new album “Aamunkoi”

Hiljaisuus ei kestä, the first single from the forthcoming new VORNA album Aamunkoi, out now on all digital platforms!

VORNA about Hiljaisuus ei kestä:

“Hiljaisuus ei kestä (Silence Never Lasts) served as a vessel for the initial emotions awoken during the first week of Putin’s attack on Ukraine. Humankind never learns and there’s always someone who fills the void and shatters the peace we’d grown to take for granted.”

The music of VORNA from Tampere is as melancholic as sublimely gloomy. No wonder that the group has already toured or played shows with Insomnium, Wintersun, Kalmah, Thyrfing and Whispered. The sextet from Finland, active since 2008, enters with a majestic metal sound that also features symphonic and folk accents.

The band’s fourth album stands out for its self-evident, breathing musicality. The lyrics are presented again in the Finnish native language of the musicians and support the mythical character of the tracks. The album title could hardly be more aptly chosen. “Aamunkoi” can be translated as “Aurora”. In literature, this means “The Dawn”. In the far north, where VORNA come from, this is also the name for the phenomenon of the polar lights. In both interpretations darkness and grace play a role. Astonishment and fear are also to be associated. Not everything can be grasped and cleary understood. Much remains in the indefinite and in the intermediate tones. This closes the circle to the melancholic metal of the six Finns and their nature-loving understanding of art.

In comparison with the debut “Ajastaika” (2013), the second album from 2015, “Ei valo minua seuraa”, and the debut on LIFEFORCE RECORDS, “Sateet palata saavat” (2019), VORNA surpass themselves on “Aamunkoi”. All songs sound immensely multifaceted, accentuated and above all atmospheric.

The gloomy emotionality and fine melody lines of the band’s fourth album pull in their spell. The contrasting play between forward attacks and fragile atmosphere, which reaches deep, has lasting effects and impresses.

VORNA about Aamunkoi:

“Life is finite, unpredictable, and unfair. The album’s main theme is survival in the uncertain world where the lucky ones who get to witness a new day have a chance to strive for a better future – when they still can.

Music-wise Aamunkoi is Vorna’s most melodic work to date and we have once again broadened our musical horizon towards new territories on every instrument. “

Tracklist:

  1. Hiljaisuus ei kestä
  2. Harva päättää hyvästeistään
  3. Valo
  4. Aika pakenee
  5. Kallioilla
  6. Muualle
  7. Raja
  8. Meri
  9. Aamunkoi
