Virginia Beach, VA blackened death metal duo FORETOKEN have today announced their second album, Triumphs, set for release via Prosthetic Records on March 17. Alongside the announcement, the band has shared lead single, Demon Queller, with an accompanying visualizer by Aimed&Framed.

Pre-order Triumphs here.

Speaking on the album announcement, Dan Cooley (vocals) comments: “We’re really excited to announce Triumphs! This has lived in our heads since we began writing the album in early 2021. We pushed ourselves to improve on everything from songwriting, to musicianship, and storytelling. It’s a juggernaut of an experience that we hope people enjoy listening to as much as we did writing it”

Steve Redmond (guitar and orchestration) adds: “We’re super stoked for everyone to hear the album. We had a blast making it and we hope everyone has just as much fun listening to it. While we want the listener to be immersed in the myths and legends referenced on this album, there is also a human element to these songs I think we can all relate to. For the first single we wanted an energetic track that represents a preview of the album as a whole and we think Demon Queller fills that role.”

Following their 2020 debut long player, Ruin, FORETOKEN’s latest album sees the group expand upon their foundations of meticulously lofty soundscapes, mythological narratives, and elaborate musicianship. Utilizing traditional narratives of myths, legends, and folklore from a wide range of Western and Middle Eastern origins, Triumphs examines the ignored collateral damage of the cost of victory through these established mythos.

Taking musical inspiration from melodic and tech death metal, as well as power, folk and black metal, FORETOKEN’s core sound on Triumphs is bolstered by subtle and captivating use of traditionally Scandinavian, Southeast Asian, and Middle Eastern instruments for atmospheric depth within the album’s 51 minute runtime. Reunited once again with Hannes Grossmann (Hate Eternal, Alkaloid, Obscura, Necrophagist, Blotted Science, and Triptykon) on drums and boasting a guest guitar appearance by The Black Dahlia Murder’s Brandon Ellis on penultimate track A Tyrant Rises As Titans Fall, FORETOKEN’s technical prowess shines through without overpowering any of the nine songs’ rhythmic charge.

Triumphs was penned throughout 2021 by both Steve Redmond (guitar and orchestration) and Dan Cooley (vocals), with the pair settling on eight original compositions and a cover of Naglfar’s I Am Vengeance. Grossmann then commenced drum tracking at his own studio, Mordor Sounds, with guitars recorded by Redmond himself and vocals captured at Trepan Studios by Tony Petrocelly, before mixing and mastering duties were placed in the accomplished hands of Jacob Hansen (Arch Enemy, Fleshgod Apocalypse, The Black Dahlia Murder, and more) at Hansen Studios.

Visually tied together by portrait artist Tomas Honz’s detailed cover painting, depicting a protagonist’s journey in the aftermath of battle, Triumphs aesthetic component is a symbolic embodiment of the duo’s enduring fascination with historial consequence via a folkloric lens. Taking fables and fantasy to extreme sonic heights, FORETOKEN’s Triumphs is as lofty in ambition as it is accomplished in its musicianship and songcraft.

Triumphs tracklist:
1. Revenant of Valor
2. Demon Queller
3. The Wraith That Weeps
4. The Labors
5. Serpent Kings Venom
6. His Riastrad
7. Devil o’ the Sea
8. A Tyrant Rises as Titans Fall
9. I Am Vengeance (Naglfar cover)

FORETOKEN is:
Dan Cooley – vocals
Steve Redmond – guitar and orchestration
Hannes Grossmann – drums (recording only)

Thrash metal force WARBRINGER in cooperation with M-Theory Audio is releasing Total War – The Complete Cassette Box Set February 10th. Collecting all 6 of the new era metal band’s albums with bonus tracks on each from the same recording sessions. Additionally, the box includes the band’s sought-after demo recordings, 2005’s Born Of The Ruins and 2006’s One By One The Wicked Fall. Housed in a camo matchbox style box with Warbringer patch, sticker and pin and limited to 250 copies.

Spanning over 15 years of music one can hear and appreciate the journey begun by teenagers inspired by their influences to an international recording and touring juggernaut trailblazing new paths and inspiring a next generation. Officially licensed from past label Century Media and current label Napalm Records Total War… introduces each of their albums onto the classic cassette format each with its own unique colored shell. And each album collecting bonus tracks from the same sessions including b-sides and cover versions totaling 12 additional songs.

“Road Warriors! Starting off the new year “locked & loaded” and we’re excited to announce our collaboration with M-Theory Audio to bring you Total War – The Complete Cassette Box Set,” exclaims drummer Carlos Cruz. “This is a limited release you don’t want to miss out on, so pre-order yours now! We’ll see you on the road!”

WARBRINGER continues to tour in support of their 2020 Napalm Records release, Weapons of Tomorrow. The noteworthy release proves the true mastery of their craft, and spurred a forward shift of an entire genre – transporting thrash into a brand-new era. Building upon their internationally-acclaimed blistering attack, with Weapons of Tomorrow, WARBRINGER showcases a refreshed technical approach and a heightened focus on unique lyrical and vocal style. The record takes the promise of the band’s previous release, Woe to the Vanquished, and carries it onward, presenting WARBRINGER at their absolute best.

Unfortunately releasing the band’s sixth album on the onset of the pandemic and mandated shutdowns proved difficult for these diehards who were forced to sit off the road for two years coming back to stages across America last year first supporting Cavalera’s ‘Beneath the Arise’ tour, and then headlining their own trek with Bay Area legends Heathen and young upstarts Misfire.

Next up, WARBRINGER will return to the seas aboard this year’s 70000 Tons of Metal cruise, before a couple of Southern California crossover shows performing Feb 10th in Oxnard with Dead Heat and Feb 11th in Pomona with Excel and Fueled By Fire. All of the shows are just the warm-up to their European spring dates where they will crisscross the continent performing alongside bands like Belgium’s Evil Invaders and Schizophrenia, Australia’s Mason and finally Scotland’s Hellripper for the UK dates. With a return planned in August to perform at prestigious European festivals.

WARBRINGER Upcoming Live Shows
1/30 – 2/3 – 70000 Tons of Metal Cruise

Formed in late 2004, WARBRINGER has gone on to be one of the most consistent and well-regarded thrash metal bands of the new generation. After releasing two demos, the band broke out with their 2008 debut, War Without End – a record illustrating a frantic energy and aggression which had been absent from metal for some time. The band continued to redefine their sound on each of their next four career-defining albums – 2009’s Waking Into Nightmares, 2011’s Worlds Torn Asunder, 2013’s Warbringer IV: Empires Collapse and 2017’s Woe To The Vanquished, their first via Napalm Records (Billboard – #8 New Artist Albums, #17 Hard Music Albums, #26 Current Rock and #29 Independent Current Albums). WARBRINGER has bolstered their performance roster by relentlessly touring internationally throughout five continents with iconic artists such as Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Testament, Napalm Death, Iced Earth, Nile, Suffocation, Kreator, Soilwork, Overkill, Sepultura, Hatebreed, Nevermore, Dark Tranquillity and many more, and found themselves working with industry greats on each new album – creating with producers such as Steve Evetts (Symphony X, DevilDriver, The Dillinger Escape Plan), Bill Metoyer (Slayer, D.R.I., Dark Angel), thrash legend Gary Holt (guitarist, Slayer/Exodus) and Mike Plotnikoff (In Flames, All That Remains, Fear Factory). The ever-evolving quintet continues to renovate their potent concept with each passing year, without ever losing focus on the future. Metal Injection said it best, “…the almighty WARBRINGER have proven that they reign eternal… no matter what the circumstances.”

WARBRINGER is:
John Kevill – Vocals
Adam Carroll – Guitar
Carlos Cruz – Drums
Chase Becker – Guitar
Chase Bryant – Bass

STEVE VAI Announces Planned European Appearances on Inviolate World Tour

STEVE VAI has announced a return to Europe for planned appearances in March through May. The second leg of European dates on the Inviolate World Tour will begin in Lisbon, Portugal on March 24. The itinerary will bring Vai through Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Hungary, Croatia, Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, N. Macedonia, Latvia, and Estonia prior to wrapping on May 7 in Helsinki, Finland. For tickets and a variety of EVO Experience VIP bundles available visit https://www.vai.com.

Steve Vai shares, “Our previous fall tour of North America was outstanding. Myself and the band are as oiled up and ready as ever. I’m excited to finally bring the Hydra guitar to Europe as I missed doing that on the last EU run. The response from Inviolate was tremendously positive and it showed in the press, the attendances and the energy in the audience and we are so much looking forward to this EU tour.”

This past year, Steve Vai released a new studio album titled Inviolate. In support of the release, he staged successful tours of North America and Europe. This year, plans will take the guitarist, composer, and songwriters to most continents across the world as he continues to stage events on the Inviolate World Tour.

Favored Nations / Mascot Label Group presented the official music video for “Teeth Of The Hydra,” which has now been viewed over 5.4 million times. To screen the performance video, click here: https://youtu.be/46qjDJ0lLdE . Later this month, he’ll release Vai/Gash on January 27, an album he’s held in the archive for more than three decades. He shares, “Vai/Gash was written and recorded in somewhat of a stream of consciousness in 1991 within perhaps a 2-week period as an answer to my desire to have a particular kind of music to listen to when I was riding my Harley Davison Motorcycle with my friends. One of those friends was John “Gash” Sombrotto, who is the powerful singer on this record. It’s reminiscent of a certain type of rock music I enjoyed as a teenager in the 1970’s. These recordings sat on the shelf for over 30 years and are being released now in 2023.” Three songs have been shared thus far: “She Saved My Life Tonight” (https://youtu.be/9PY28ih-Sbg), “In The Wind,” (https://youtu.be/AkbnEj2yDw0) and “Busted” (https://youtu.be/O2U5pSbFSIg).

SERMON Announce New Album “Of Golden Verse”; Reveal Visualizer for Lead Single ‘Golden’

Four years on from their debut album, London, UK melodic doom band SERMON have today announced their return and shared details of their upcoming sophomore full length, Of Golden Verse. Alongside the album announcement, SERMON have also shared the lead single, Golden, via Bandcamp with an accompanying visualizer.

Of Golden Verse is due for release via Prosthetic Records on March 31.

Stream Golden via Bandcamp
Golden is now available on all streaming platforms.
Pre-order Of Golden Verse here.

Speaking on the lead single and album announcement, SERMON‘s Him comments: “Golden is as close to a political song as I think SERMON will ever get to. A song that tells the tale about a reign, weighing down on those under it, until they are bound by it. It’s an important song to the record semantically and musically. It’s a pulsating build, that ascends to a ferocious musical climax.

“Golden is the almost-title-track on of Of Golden Verse, an album themed on abuses of power; from an individual, cultural, religious and political level, with each song a fragment of that. It’s been a long time coming and we can’t wait for the world to listen.”

A beacon of iridescent musical light amid the torpid fog of modern life, SERMON blazed brightly but briefly when they released their debut album back in 2019. Led by the shadowy figurehead known only as Him, they blurred boundaries with the aptly titled Birth Of The Marvellous – which earned widespread acclaim and the effusive support of listeners around the world. But then, after a single live show at Prog In Park in Poland, there was only silence.

In the years between then and now, the world has become a darker, nastier place. Summoned from their slumbers for a second time, Him and his collaborators are back with an album that accurately encapsulates the mood of the moment. Recorded at Grindstone Studios under the legendary supervision of producer Scott Atkins, Of Golden Verse was entirely written by Him, but the new songs reached their final, immaculate state through a team effort.

Him comments: “James is the other side of this. I’ll give him the demo of a whole album and the drums will be written, and he likes me to do that, but when we get in the studio, he makes his suggestions and it often becomes this whole other thing. It wouldn’t sound remotely the same with another drummer. Meanwhile, Scott is the George Martin of the piece. So really SERMON is a trio. I give them something that’s fairly well formed, it’s almost there, and they add into it because they’re far more skilled than I am.”

The resulting 10 tracks that make up Of Golden Verse are musically intense, dynamic – and often a startlingly heavy trawl down corridors of corruption and stairways of compromise. First single Golden is a stunning entry point to SERMON‘s reconfigured world; dense with melody and melancholy, it showcases the band’s expanded sonic vision, with lyrics that detail a slow, steady chipping away at the human spirit. There’s no question: Sermon has returned in 2023 with an imperious flourish.

Of Golden Verse tracklist:
1. The Great Marsh
2. Royal
3. Light the Witch
4. In Black
5. The Distance
6. Senescence
7. Wake the Silent
8. Golden
9. Centre
10. Departure
