SYLVAINE Unveils New Music Video for ‘Everything Must Come to An End’

Norwegian multi-instrumentalist SYLVAINE is now revealing a brand new music video for the song, “Everything Must Come to An End,” which is taken from her latest opus, ‘Nova!’ The video, which was created by William Lacalmontie, can be found at THIS LOCATION.

SYLVAINE comments on the video: “This song…. There’s always at least one track on every album that resonates extremely deeply with me every time I revisit it in any way and ‘Everything Must Come To An End’ is definitely one of those on “Nova”. It was the first song written for ‘Nova’ yet was somehow a prediction of what life would become shortly after. The whole album is colored by the emotions expressed in this specific track, especially regarding the impermanence of all. An emotionally heavy conclusion to an album that was awfully hard to make, ‘Everything Must come To An End’ is a track I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to perform live, hence why I wanted to give people a chance to see some sort of performance of it. Director and creator William Lacalmontie captured a perfect, intimate balance between heartbreaking and heartwarming in this video, something I feel extremely grateful for. He managed to create a visual that perfectly embraces every aspect of this song.“

The video release is in conjunction with SYLVAINE‘s forthcoming headlining European tour, which kicks off on December 7 in her hometown of Oslo (NO)! The full itinerary can be found below!

SYLVAINE is supporting the release of her brand new fourth studio album, ‘Nova,’ which is out NOW! In addition, the previously sold-out vinyl is now repressed and back in stock in the blueberry marble color! Stream/download/order HERE.

Live-Report: PARADISE LOST + HANGMAN’S CHAIR – at Tavastia, Helsinki – September 9th, 2022

Live-report + photos by Christian Tallone

Since a very long time I’ve been wanting to see PARADISE LOST live show, but never had the chance, and also I’ve been wanting to visit Finland for a long time…SO, when I saw the tour dates I said to myself “OK, it’s time to go to Helsinki” and I dedicate to Paradise Lost this my beautiful experience.

But let’s get to the heart of the matter, I arrive at the Tavastia at around 7:00 pm, a historic venue in the capital of Finland that has been active since 1970, a few souls outside under a light rain and a perfect atmosphere for the event that awaits for us, it’s a great emotion for me as a Superfan of the PL being able to see them in such a context, the place is small but perfectly structured, practically a pub with a stage… forget about a tons of security personnel, here the atmosphere is very familiar, intimate (capacity about 700 people )… Absolutely amazing.

HANGMAN’S CHAIR – support band

At 19:45 to open the dance are the French Stoner / Doom group HANGMAN’S CHAIR, a band that I honestly didn’t know but which has 6 studio albums and almost 20 years of career to its credit.

They immediately attack powerful, dark guitars and deep voice, the time to turn around and Tavastia is full to the limit of sold-out, precise and powerful they hold up the stage for about an hour, surrounded by an icy bluish light… Mehdi Birouk’s drums are the master with real cannon shots, setting fire to the atmosphere, their performance flows so well that in a moment it is already over, a wonderful discovery for myself who will surely deepen the knowledge of the band. Sorry, I have not their Tavastia -setlist available.

PARADISE LOST – headliner

After a quick change of stage (also due to its small size, almost completely devoid of scenography except for the raised drums and a banner) at 21:00 the headliners of the evening, UK doom legends PARADISE LOST, finally enter the scene, they need no further introduction.. .

They give a welcome with their beautiful “Enchantment” and the Finnish audience goes crazy … from that moment it remains enraptured and involved for the entire duration of the performance, the voice of the charismatic frontman Nick is initially a bit low but everything settles down very little time, for the rest everything is perfectly done, it seems to hear the album… the guitars of Aaron and Gregor bind on the equally excellent work of the bassist Stephen, another beautiful surprise is the “new entry”, our Italian compatriot Guido, a boy who despite his young age fits perfectly next to his companions, playing impeccably, nothing can be said, they are practically perfect.

They don’t loose their time in chatter, accentuating their dark and mysterious side, and they give us an always uphill show with thirteen songs taken from the most recent albums blended naturally with the old classics despite their change of style on the latest works…going from “Blood and Chaos”, “Faith divides us- death unites US” (a song that I personally adore).”Eternal ” and the epics “The Enemy” and “No Hope In Sight” to conclude with three encores…”Darker Thoughts”, “Embers Fire” and “Ghosts”.

At the end of this concert my expectations on this band are not only confirmed but greatly exceeded, on the other hand, I have always imagined the boys cold and reserved, but on the contrary, I had the pleasure of discovering fabulous people … if in the future they happen to play where you are, don’t miss them for anything in the world.

Behold and join SERENITY on their path of forgotten memories and experience the sands of time with their new live album MEMORIA, out December 9, 2022 via Napalm Records! The assembly unites beyond death and legacy, sharing long forgotten stories of ancient kings, queens, and mythical legends. Looking back at their own band history and legacy of 20 years, SERENITY invites the listener on a metal journey through history. So, immerse yourself in a land before our time with the new live recording of MEMORIA on DVD and BluRay!

With their new single “Legacy of the Tudors”, SERENITY rewrites history by mixing epic chants with heavy riffs. SERENITY unites the best of both worlds into a unique sonic experience beyond compare. With the humble support of none other than honorable Vision of Atlantis vocalist Clémentine Delauney, “Legacy of The Tudors” becomes an unforgettable part of symphonic metal history. To put it in their words: “When music plays its Melody” it’s time for SERENITY!

SERENITY on “Legacy of The Tudors”:
“We’re so excited to finally unveil the first single from our upcoming live album MEMORIA. This track is a very special one to us as it’s taken from the album War of Ages which will have it’s tenth anniversary next year. During that time Clémentine Delauney was a permanent member of SERENTIY and we feel very honoured that she returned to travel back in time to celebrate this special occasion and perform this track with us.”

Symphonic metal unit SERENITY offers a new approach to beguiling the senses with their live performance, MEMORIA, now on DVD and BluRay! Interpreting their illustrious songs anew in a conceptual show, they are sure to enchant listeners and viewers alike. Showcasing incredible hit density, the band embraces their symphonic power and provides a magical feeling throughout the entire performance. From classic folklore pieces like “Coldness Kills” that intrigues with its fairytale-like sound and classic instrumentals, to “Set The World On Fire” with catchy hooks and dashing soundscapes, SERENITY give it all in every single piece. In “Set the World on Fire” and “Broken Dreams”, the unit is joined on their journey by the smooth and magical voice of Marco Pastorino awakening old myths and legends anew. These dreamlike soundscapes are being supported with enchanting guitar riffs in “Velatum” and “Souls and Sins” by no other than Sacha Paeth, the producer of Avantasia. This way, the band not only showcases their incredible musical talent supported by talented vocalist Georg Neuhauser, but also their love and dedication for the art of music. Touching ballads like “Journey Ends” and “Fairytales” supported by the incredible vocal range of legendary Visions of Atlantis vocalist Clémentine Delauney forge reminiscence of earlier times, while moving duets like “Changing Fate” refer to multifaceted Scottish mythology. In “Spirit of the Flesh”, Nicklas Müller offers rhythmic support by adding steady drums. As a special bonus on MEMORIA, the band taps Sascha Paeth and Michele Guaitoli from symphonic metal greats Visions of Atlantis for their stage performance of “Souls and Sins” and “Legacy of the Tudors”.

SERENITY on MEMORIA:
“After a long time of waiting, we’re excited to finally release our first live album. We still think back to the evening when we performed this very special show at KulturQuartier in Kufstein and  we’re so proud we could bottle the unique atmosphere of this night and release it now under the title MEMORIA. Being able to perfom this concert in this terrific atmosphere of a theater with so many guests, was a was really a ‘once in a life time experience’ and we’re extremely happy to share it now with all of our fans.”

Ukrainian SORROWFUL LAND Announces New Album “Faded Anchors Of The Past”, Shares First Single

Posted by metalshockfinland on November 15, 2022
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Max Molodtsov, SORROWFUL LAND. Leave a comment

Set for release on January 27th via Swedish label Black Lion Records, “Faded Anchors Of The Past” is the third full-length album of Ukrainian doom metal, solo artist SORROWFUL LAND. Led by multi-instrumentalist and mastermind behind the project – Max Molodtsov, Sorrowful Land has been bringing doomy passages since 2014. Unlike the previous gloomy album that was filled with tragical themes, the new effort offers more melancholic yet dark tunes. Topics of “Faded Anchors Of The Past” revolve around feelings that are often buried deep into nooks and crannies of ones mind. What will you do when the past is chasing you? What do you see when you close your eyes and enter the dark realms of nightmares? Is it your mind who plays with you showing ghostly faces of the ones you once knew? Or are they just a part of your inner demons that devour your soul? Is it possible to run away from the sins of the past? What if you succeed? What’s then…? Try and you’ll find all answers hidden in eight tracks.

“Faded Anchors Of The Past” is packed with one hour of epic songs that are long enough to make your rainy and misty morning more atmospheric. Low-tuned guitar riffs intertwined with haunting melodies, mellow clean vocals and sudden changes to brutal death metal growling, unexpected piano fills, roaring bass and solid drum parts – you’ll hear all of it cemented in a modern metal mix!

In support of the new album, Sorrowful Land has unleashed a lyric video for the first single “The Cold Gray Fog of Dawn”, which features guest contributions from Stefan Nordstrom & Henrik Ekholm.

Max Molodtsov comments: “‘The Cold Gray Fog Of Dawn’ – the most melancholic song on the album. Lyrics were written by Stefan Nordstrom from Swedish band SOLILOQUIUM. He invites us to be a part of the early morning journey through the old city. Of course, it’s some kind of allegory too. Also you can hear backing vocals from Henrik Ekholm once again while Stefan takes the main vocals parts. And don’t you miss that creepy piano interlude! It will send shivers down your spine!“

Tracklist reads as follows:

  1. As Long As We Breathe
  2. Faded Anchors Of The Past
  3. The Cold Gray Fog Of Dawn
  4. Small Lost Moments
  5. As I Behold Them Once Again
  6. Where The Sullen Waters Flow
  7. The Night Is Darkening Around Me
  8. When The Oceans Calm

“Faded Anchors Of The Past” album was recorded between 2018 and 2022 at Eternal Studio by Max Molodtsov. Produced by Max Molodtsov. Mixed & mastered by Max Molodtsov at Eternal Studio, 2022. Cover art by Daniele Gay, booklet artwork & CD design by Volodymyr Tsymbal / VLADESIGN.

“Faded Anchors Of The Past” will be coming out on January 27th and is now available for pre-order at THIS LOCATION

Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel: “Mercyful Fate To Release 2 New Song In Next Few Months”

Posted by metalshockfinland on November 15, 2022
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Brian Slagel, Metal Blade Records, The Metal Voice. Leave a comment

Jimmy Kay from The Metal Voice recently interviewed Metal Blade Records founder and CEO Brain Slagel.

On the show they did a deep dive on the first two iconic Mercyful Fate albums and E.P., ‘Melissa’ and Don’t break the Oath, which have been re-released (as well as the rest of the MercyFul Fate and King Diamond Catalog on Metal Blade Records).

Also in the chat Slagel also gave an update on Mercyful Fate’s future recording plans.

Slagel was asked in the conversation about Mercyful Fate’s plans to record and release new music, he said, “So here are the plans. So there’s two (new) songs, one of which you know they’re playing in the set (“The Jackal Of Salzburg),  which was supposed to be out  prior to all of this (tour) but everything’s delayed. So the first thing is they’re going to finish up (that song) as soon as this tour is done. They’re gonna finish up that song, it’s mostly recorded and we’re gonna put that out to the digital people on the internet, so you’ll be able to stream that. I don’t know, sometime in the next few months so there’s that. They (Mercyful Fate) have another song they’ve written that’s also going to be out there as well, so there’ll be two Mercyful Fate songs out there. We’ll probably do some sort of vinyl thing with the two tracks as well. Then we’ll have a King Diamond album following that up and then we’ll go back to kind of the way we did in the 90s where the next record will be full Mercyful Fate album.”
