MALEDICTUS is a Portuguese metal band formed in Lisbon. Bringing together experienced musicians with a shared vision, the band creates dark, powerful and atmospheric heavy music. With a foundation of aggressive riffs, haunting melodies and emotional vocals, the band blends modern heavy metal with darker, more melodic influences.

The band comments: „Our new single “Siren’s Lullaby” lures you into the depths of a soul haunted by pain, betrayal and the intoxicating pull of someone who was both sanctuary and ruin. Like a sailor helplessly bewitched by the charming voice of a Siren, such was the seduction of a love that promised shelter while remaining slowly destructive, until devotion and destruction became the same. This is a song about being seduced by darkness, surviving its embrace, and learning that sometimes the only way home is to finally let go. There are songs that call you home, and there are songs that call you to your grave. Never trust the ones that sound the same.”

MALEDICTUS was formed by musicians seeking to explore a heavier and more expressive sound, combining technical musicianship with compelling songwriting and a cinematic atmosphere. Their music strikes a balance between intensity and melody, moving between crushing guitar passages, dynamic rhythms, and dramatic vocal performances. “Our music reflects who we are and how we process life and our own emotions. Music is life manifested through an artist’s soul. We all process life with a sense of dark melancholy”, comments guitarist Ben Stockwell. As history has taught us, Portuguese metal bands are known for their melancholic sound, which reflects their cultural identity.

Since their formation, MALEDICTUS has been focused on creating music that reflects the darker and more emotional aspects of the metal genre. Drawing inspiration from classic and contemporary metal acts, the band aims to create a sound that feels familiar yet distinct, appealing to fans of powerful, atmospheric metal.

Boasting a line-up of seasoned performers and a clear artistic vision, MALEDICTUS is developing new material and establishing its presence in the Portuguese metal scene and beyond. Their debut album, „Lazarvs“, is set to be released on Friday 13th of November. The album title draws heavily on the biblical story of Lazarus in the Gospel of John, in which Jesus performs the great miracle of raising his deceased friend Lazarus from the dead after he had been in the tomb for four days.

We wanted it to have that poetic twist of a second coming,” says the guitarist, hinting at the band members’ past in SEVENTH STORM, who released their critically acclaimed debut album, „Maledictus“, in 2022. Two years later, four members left to form MALEDICTUS. „The core of the music-writing team from Seventh Storm stayed the same, so the sound of Maledictus might sound somewhat familiar. However, Peter Crushes brought a new style of rhythm section and melodies, which have contributed to the band’s unique sound. „Lazarvs“ is a spiritual follow-up to our previous work,“ states Ben Stockwell, who is totally satisfied with the final result. „We are extremely proud of all the tracks. The result exceeded our initial expectations. We knew it had potential, and as the good ideas came, so did the inspiration to raise the bar with each song.“

With Rez on vocals, the band has an exceptional singer with a distinctive, powerful voice. „He is undoubtedly one of the best out there having power, soul, range and a unique timbre. Everything fits perfectly with our sound. We couldn’t have asked for a better voice or frontman“, says the guitarist. Rez’s lyrics are another perfect addition to the band’s dark, epic and partly progressive sound. The lyrical themes focus on life’s darkest moments. „Death brings an opportunity for renewal, as do our most difficult struggles, which require part of us to die in order to be overcome.“

Metalcore Quartet GRAYSCALE SEASON Release New Single ‘Exit’

Gothenburg metalcore quartet Grayscale Season have released ‘Exit’, the third single from their forthcoming album The Weight of Things We Cannot Touch, out on 20th November 2026.

‘Exit’ is a song about survivor’s guilt. It is addressed to someone who is gone, by someone who watched and did nothing: “I left you at home, left you alone” and, at the very end, “I let you face it all by yourself.” Between those two lines is everything the narrator failed to say in time, advice offered too late and too cheaply, alongside a horrible awareness of what he was watching.

It is the least riff-driven song on the album, built so that the production and the vocals do the work instead. There are synths, violins and pads on it, and the detail to listen for is the arpeggio running in the background.

On the song, guitarist Richard Sörensen comments:
“This song had many riffs and parts that were scrapped. It started with merging two incomplete tracks. One had only Adam‘s vocals and an acoustic guitar, and the other was an almost finished metal track with blast beats and other weird stuff. What became the whole song is basically what used to be the end breakdown. It’s very simple and more about letting the production and vocals shine than the riffing. This is kinda what it would sound like if we made an Emmure track.”

Vocalist and bassist Adam Dahlman adds:
“I love the melodic riff Richard wrote that breaks up the heavy parts and serves as a strong bridge.”

Grayscale Season have never sounded much like their hometown. Formed in Gothenburg in 2012 and independent throughout, the four-piece pair crushing low-tuned riffs with a fragile falsetto, because that is what it sounds like when someone performs strength while falling apart underneath it. They have toured the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, and played Helltown Festival in 2024. Press comparisons have run to Loathe, Deftones, Humanity’s Last Breath and The Acacia Strain. The Weight of Things We Cannot Touch is their most direct record and their least resolved.

The album takes its name from a Japanese word. Yarusenai describes the sadness or anger you feel when you know exactly what is wrong and have no way at all to fix it, and Grayscale Season have built an entire record out of that condition. Across eleven tracks the narrator sees precisely what is wrong with him and stays in the wrong room anyway, conforms anyway, says the thing too late anyway. The album keeps looking for somewhere outside itself to put the grief, first in contempt for other people and then in the ground. Neither works. Only the closing track names something reachable, and what it grieves is not the loss of that thing but the years spent looking past it.

On the sound of the record, vocalist Eddie Lejhagen comments: “I don’t think we really had a specific reference for how the album would sound. Melancholy is probably what I wanted the album to have a lot of, and I think we managed to pull that off. As for the screamed vocals, Deafheaven is probably a major inspiration – the desperation in it, but melancholic at the same time.”

The Weight of Things We Cannot Touch was produced by George Lever (Loathe, Sleep Token), who worked with the band remotely while they recorded everything themselves, a first for them. The album was mixed by Buster Odeholm (Humanity’s Last Breath, Bring Me The Horizon) and mastered by Seth Munson (Teddy Swims), with additional top line production and piano by Aurora Karme Nord.

Extreme metal phenomenon YHWH released their third single, “Heavenly Blasphemies”, taken from the upcoming EP Baghavat, set for release on October 30, 2026.

Following the intensity and confrontation of the previous singles, “Heavenly Blasphemies” pushes the band’s vision into darker and more ceremonial territory. The track expands YHWH’s sonic identity with a more ritualistic and monumental approach, blending savage aggression with an atmosphere that feels vast, oppressive, and almost liturgical in its darkness.

SOUTHERN WILD Explore Love, Loss & Fragility of Time on New Single ‘Right On Time’

South African alternative rock band Southern Wild return with “Right On Time”, a deeply personal new single that explores marriage, love and the fragile nature of time. Taken from their upcoming album The Art Of Feeling Nothing, arriving on 30 October 2026 via Just Music, the track reflects on the complexities of sharing a life with someone, and the importance of making the most of the time we have together.
 
At its heart, “Right On Time” is about understanding that even in the closest relationships, two people remain individuals, each experiencing the world in their own way. For vocalist Dave van Vuuren, there’s something special in that difference, and in the willingness to understand another person’s perspective.
 
“It’s about the little disagreements, the almost otherworldly moments you share, but also the fact that you’re still two individuals living separate lives,” explains van Vuuren. “You experience things differently, and there’s something beautiful in wanting to see what the other person sees.”

The song also reflects on how our understanding of love changes as we get older. Witnessing people lose the partners they’ve spent their lives with brings the reality of mortality into sharper focus, reminding us that no relationship comes with a guarantee of forever.
 
“I think that makes it even more important to be present, to understand each other, and to love each other as selflessly as we can while we have the chance,” says van Vuuren.

CALVA LOUISE Explore Abstract Feeling of Invisible Forces on New Single & Video ‘La Promesa’

The band will also be joining Creeper on their UK tour from 8 to 11 October, before setting off for headline tours in France (23 – 28 Oct) and Spain (30 Oct – 1 Nov).

‘La Promesa’ – translated as ‘The Promise’ from Spanish – is the first single released since they dropped their previous album, Edge of the Abyss, in July 2025, and continues to build on their unique universe.
​
The song explores the abstract feeling of invisible forces pushing you forward. “Although some of those forces can be positive, others can become empty promises rooted in obsessions and delusions,” Jess Allanic says. “Eventually blurring the lines between doing the right thing, accepting a more challenging path or choosing to ignore the consequences of your own actions because it’s the easy way out.”

The video is another stunning visual feast, again written, directed and SFX by Jess, as the story weaves the viewer back to the 18th century and the grounds of a Manor estate. “The video for La Promesa was like our previous videos made by ourselves and our friends and it expands on the story of one of the characters of Edge Of The Abyss. Although the video is a diy endeavour, we feel we keep continuing to progress in our abilities, always trying to increase the production value,” the band say.

The song is sung in Spanish, and Jess explains the importance of that, saying, “As Spanish is my native language, it feels more natural for me to accurately convey the abstract emotions that we are experiencing. Also as the song is heavily inspired by Venezuelan Joropo (also known as Música Llanera) Spanish was subconsciously the only way for me to sing this melody, letting the natural flow of the writing process take total control. That being said, some French lines are sung by our bass player Alizon, as a nod to our multicultural background, and also adding another perspective to the characters point of view”

The band handled the entire recording process at home, with the exception of the drums, which were recorded at The Ranch Recording Studio in the south of England. Jess herself produced the track then sent it to Jeff Dunne (Knocked Loose, We Came As Romans, Ice Nine Kills) who mixed and mastered the song, it’s a taster of what is to come. “The new music continues to expand the Calva Louise universe through our new experiences, adventuring even deeper into themes of duality and purpose, clarifying and elaborating topics already introduced in Edge of The Abyss.” the band explained.

The last two years have been a whirlwind for the trio. European tours saw them hit the road with Bloodywood and Stray From the Path, along with two UK headline tours. They also hit the road in the US twice, a co-headline with Vukovi and their own headline run. Not to mention the checklist of festivals along the way: Shiprocked Festival (US), So What?! (US), Welcome to Rockville (US), Sonic Temple (US), 2000Trees (UK), Download (UK), Copenhell (Denmark), Rock For People (Czechia), Eurosonic Noordeslaag (Netherlands), Sun & Thunder (Spain) and more.

Talking about the last year, the band reflects on their highlights: “Releasing Edge of the Abyss and then performing that music around the world was a huge highlight. Our April 2026 UK headline tour was particularly special; selling out shows was incredibly meaningful because seeing those filled rooms of fans connecting to the songs represents how far we’ve come since our beginnings.”

Calva Louise’s world continues to expand in 2026 both musically and visually. “We’re ambitiously elaborating on every possible aspect, starting with Jess fully producing all of our new material, to Alizon improving the sound and visual experience for our live shows and Ben helping to improve the production value. It’s all about team work, because even though we are a small team, the decade we’ve already experienced as a band has prepared us to fulfill this unwavering ambition that keeps materialising further with each release.” they say.
