50 Years of Punk – The U.K. SUBS’ Final Album Looks Back Across Every Step of the Way

It’s half a century since punk rock first arose from the dark’n’dirty backstreets of London and New York… half a century since the Sex Pistols swore on prime time TV; the Ramones proved that great gigs could be played in 20 minutes; and the so-called giants of metal, prog and virtuoso tomfoolery were swept away on a tsunami of high octane energy and incendiary rage.

The world would never be the same again, and Cleopatra Records will be celebrating that first burst of punkoid energy for the rest of the year.  And why not? Over the last 30 years, the label has done as much as anyone to preserve and advance the first wave of punk rock giants.

From The Damned to Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers, and ex-Runaway Cherie Currie to late Sex Pistol Sid Vicious; from Eater and The Vibrators to The Dickies and The Germs, brilliant new releases and precious archive treasures alike have lit up the shelves, and every month through 2026, Cleopatra Records will be spotlighting a fresh classic from the catalog.

Last month it was a pair of raw live albums by New York’s Dead Boys, recorded back when it all began. This month, we leap forward almost half a century for London’s UK Subs, as they waved farewell to the scene they have ruled for so long with an absolutely epic live album – fittingly titled The Last Will and Testament of UK Subs.

Still fronted by ageless frontman Charlie Harper, along with longtime bassist Alvin Gibbs and newer members Steve Straughan and Stefan Häublein, the Subs’ thrilling, energetic performance includes everything you could positively need to hear.

Both sides of their debut single, “CID”/“Live In A Car”; its dramatic follow-up “Tomorrow’s Girls”; early UK hits “Stranglehold,” “Warhead,” “Teenage” and “Party In Paris.”

“Keep On Running (Till You Burn),” “Barbie’s Dead,” “Squat 96,” “Scum of The Earth” – it’s the ultimate Subs show, an unhinged celebration not only of the Subs’ decades-spanning resilience, but also of punk itself.  The Subs were there at the beginning… their first ever release was recorded live, ripe and raucous at the legendary Roxy Club on new year’s eve 1977; and they were still shouting those same odds at the end.

In fact, Last Will and Testament was itself recorded at another of London punk’s most sacred sites, the 100 Club on Oxford Street, where the first ever Punk Rock Festival was staged in September 1976.

There’s lots more Subs action available from Cleopatra Records, too… just head over to Cleorecs.com for more madness.

There’s more punk to come, too.  Later this year will see both a major punk rock sale and a very special 50th anniversary edition of the podcast Pirate Radio Cleopatra.

And watch out next month for our next red hot reminder of the Greatest Show on Earth.  Because that’s what punk was.

Each track has been recorded exclusively for this anniversary project and showcases the powerful reinterpretation of beloved Frontiers classics through the voices of today’s standout rock artists.

Aldo Lonobile, Head Of A&R Europe at Frontiers Label Group and producer of the record, commented:

“Producing the 30th anniversary record for Frontiers Records has been both a honour and a responsibility. This label has built a legacy on passion and vision and, with this album, we wanted to celebrate that history in a meaningful way, having a mix of established and new generation of Frontiers artists reinterpret the iconic tracks that shaped our identity is more than a tribute – it’s a bridge between eras”.

“With a tracklist discussed together with the Frontiers President Serafino Perugino, this record is a celebration of where we come from, and a powerful statement of where we’re headed”, he continued.

Under the expert production of Lonobile – who also performs part of the guitars on the album – the performances are backed by a stellar lineup of musicians: Alessandro Mammola (guitar), Andrea Arcangeli (bass), Cristian Timpanaro (bass), the keyboards team – Alessio Lucatti & Antonio Agate, Alfonso Mocerino and  Fortunato Grillo  on drums, delivering powerful new arrangements that bring renewed energy to these fan-favorite tracks.

SOWULO Announces CD Reissue of “Sol”, Out June 19th

SOWULO, the musical project of Dutch composer Faber Horbach, will release a CD reissue of the 2016 album “Sol” through Season of Mist on June 19th, 2026. The album’s thirteen tracks trace the eight festivals of the pagan year wheel across a runtime of approximately 51 minutes, moving from the primordial void of Ginnungagap through the seasonal cycle and out into the galloping close of Arvakr and Alsvidr, the two horses of the Norse sun goddess.

“This year marks the 10 year anniversary of Sol: an acoustic and instrumental album that has always held a deeply personal place in my heart, as well as in the hearts of many who listen to Sowulo,” says Faber. “Sol was created during a time when I was deeply immersed in the pagan year feasts. At the time, I felt there was no music that truly resonated with these celebrations. That absence became a calling and Sol was my answer. I’m truly grateful to say that Sol is now back in stock and available through Season of Mist.“

Where Sowulo’s debut Alvenrad was orchestral and piano-led, Sol strips the same mythological territory back to a fully acoustic core: bouzouki, hammered dulcimer, nyckelharpa, Celtic harp, viola, and woodwinds. The result is lighter on its feet and more rhythmically driven than its predecessor—less meditative weight, more kinetic celebration. CeltCast described it as “pagan folk meets chamber music,” a phrase that captures the album’s dual register: earthy and ceremonial on one hand, intimate and precisely arranged on the other.

The album features Chloé Bakker on Celtic harp, Pan Bartkowiak on davul and percussion, Koen van Egmond on woodwinds, and Klaartje van Zwoll on viola, violin, and vocals, alongside Horbach himself.

The album has accumulated over 11 million streams, with Sol and follow-up Mann together surpassing 23.6 million streams combined. This CD reissue marks the first time the album is distributed to a wider European retail audience under a major independent label, coinciding with Sol‘s tenth anniversary and an exclusive anniversary performance at Castlefest, where Sowulo will play the album in full.

SOWULO is the evocative musical work of Faber Horbach, blending the spiritual philosophy of ancient Northern Europe with the continuous cycles of the universe.

Through the use of a wide array of historical instruments, melancholic melodies, and philosophical lyrics in Anglo-Saxon, Sowulo crafts an immersive sonic landscape that invites listeners to embark on an inner journey.

Weaving together the sounds of instruments like the Carnyx, Nyckelharpa, Celtic Harp, Shaman drums, Blow horns, Irish Bouzouki, Taglharpa, Lyre, Viola and various traditional vocal techniques, Sowulo shapes its distinctive sound.

The name “Sowulo,” meaning “Sun” in Proto-Germanic, reflects the essence of the music. As we circle the sun, we feel the cyclical nature of life: day and night, the four seasons, birth and death, and the eternal dance between decay and renewal.

Vision Divine has released a video for “18 (It Feels Like Heaven)”, first single taken from the new EP “A Clockwork Reverie” to be released on May 22 by Scarlet Records.

A man walks through the desert and meets an old stranger who tells him, «I’ve been waiting for you.» – the man doesn’t recall any appointment. The old man explains that they were meant to meet 18 years ago – for reasons unknown, it never happened. So he waited. The man then wakes up. It was all a dream. But as he walks through the city, lost in thought, he sees the same old man standing at a street corner – turning, as if expecting him.

IATT Unveil New Video for ‘Walk Amongst’ from Forthcoming Full-Length Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 17, 2026
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: IATT. Leave a comment

Philadelphia-based progressive black metal outfit IATT has unveiled a brand new video for the track “Walk Amongst”, taken from their forthcoming full-length album “Etheric Realms of the Night”, set for release on May 8 via Black Lion Records.

As the veil begins to tear, “Walk Amongst” emerges as the penultimate chapter of the band’s album and film – a visceral cinematic experience that merges extreme metal with narrative storytelling into a singular, immersive work.

Marking IATT’s fourth full-length studio album, “Etheric Realms of the Night” is conceived as a cohesive album-length film, with each track serving as a chapter in a larger narrative exploring the subconscious, dreams, sleep, and the fragile threshold between the waking world and what lies beyond the veil.

“Walk Amongst” represents the moment where everything converges. Returning to what appears to be normal life, our heroine begins to sense that reality is no longer anchored – familiar surroundings feel hollow, disconnected, and wrong. The chapter draws heavily on the concept of astral projection: the act of leaving one’s physical body to move freely through the dream realm, and the repercussions of wandering too far into sleep.

Sonically and visually, “Walk Amongst” carries a sense of inevitability, revealing that the line between worlds has already been crossed. As perception fractures and truth surfaces, it becomes clear that the heroine is not moving freely between realms, but controlled by another force.

Escalating the film toward its final act, “Walk Amongst” uses atmosphere, pacing, and cinematic restraint to expose the cost of the journey, pulling the viewer deeper into “Etheric Realms of the Night”.

Tracklist:

01. Drift Away
02. To Lie Beneath
03. Somniphobia
04. Pavor Nocturnus
05. Quietus
06. Walk Amongst
07. Hypnos

“Etheric Realms of the Night” drops May 8 via Black Lion Records and is available for pre-order at THIS LOCATION

IATT are:
Jay Briscoe – Vocals, Bass
Joe Cantamessa – Guitars
Alec Pezzano – Guitars, Orchestrations

SOLAR MANTRA Release New Official Music Video ‘Avetrana’

While gearing up for the release of their upcoming album State of Joyful Lightness, due May 8th, 2026 via Argonauta Records, Roman stoner rockers Solar Mantra unveil the official music video for “Avetrana”.

“Avetrana” is the shortest and most punk-leaning track on the album, drawing musical inspiration from Qotsa’s more racy songs and other sludge-inspired ideas from bands like Mastodon. The lyrics speak of obsession and abuse, with a chorus that repeats “Will you be my baby?” As for the video, we decided with director Adelaide Fiori to show a maniac following the girl he’s obsessed with, at night, through the streets of Rome… In the end, she will have her revenge.

Formed in Rome, Solar Mantra started as a desert psych instrumental project before evolving into a full band with a strong vocal driven approach. Their debut full length Away, released by Argonauta Records in 2021, introduced them to a wider international audience thanks to its balance of fuzz, atmosphere and songwriting depth.

In 2025 Solar Mantra returned to the studio to record their second full-length album, State of Joyful Lightness, focusing on a heavier approach while keeping the melodic traits that defined their earlier work. The sessions saw the band collaborating with Danilo Silvestri as co-producer and sound engineer, pushing their sound toward a more massive and modern dimension.
