ENSLAVED Release ‘Bounded By Allegiance – Live’ Video/Single

Left-field metal luminaries ENSLAVED are proud to reveal their single and video for ‘Bounded by Allegiance – Live‘. The track, which originally comes from their ground-breaking album Isa (2004), sees a live recording of a new avant-garde interpretation, with nuanced accompaniment by fellow psychedelic Norwegian prog band Shaman Elephant. This extraordinary performance took place on last year’s Winter Solstice, via the stunning streaming event  ‘The Otherworldly Big Band Experience‘.

Listen to the ‘Bounded by Allegiance – Live‘ single here: https://enslaved.bfan.link/bounded-by-allegiance.ema

Frontman Grutle Kjellson stated,
“So here’s a little memory from last year’s musical endeavor. Our ‘Big Band’ collaboration with Shaman Elephant was such a trip! It felt like, and indeed it was, an avalanche of locked up energy just bursting out. The streamed concert plus a small tour in Norway was pretty much the only shows we did in 2021, so the energy level was pretty much turned to 11, on all of us. All nine of us!

‘Bounded By Allegiance’ was one of the first songs we thought would fit being dressed for a nine man outfit, with its natural percussive nature. We hope we were right, enjoy!”

‘The Otherworldly Big Band Experience‘ was an Enslaved show like none other, their biggest, boldest project to date – a colossal, kaleidoscopic stage show featuring a stellar setlist covering their career, both past and present. Including some tracks never previously performed live.

Enslaved‘s new EP Caravans To The Outer Worlds was released unto the universe last month. It is a tale of departure, about leaving behind a barren and desolate world, travelling boldly into the future. It signaled the end of an era for the psychedelic Norwegians, hinting at new pastures.

Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel Tells Story on How Metallica ‘Hit The Lights’ Ended Up on Metal Massacre Vol 1

Posted by tarjavirmakari on March 23, 2022
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Brian Slagel, The Metal Voice. Leave a comment

Jimmy Kay and Alan Dixon from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to CEO and founder of Metal Blade Records Brian Slagel. In the interview Slagel spoke about the upcoming re-release of Metal Massacre Vol 1 on April 22, 2022 for the 40 year anniversary and provides an update on King Diamond plus a whole lot more.

When asked about which version of Metal Massacre Vol 1 will be released
“It’s kind of the two versions combined into one basically, I’ve always wanted to do this. I thought it was going to be a nightmare to put together because back in the day we just did a 5 year licenses for the songs and we lost the rights for 35 years and I thought I don’t know if everybody wants to do it again. It took me two hours and I reached out to every band and they immediately said yes no problem we are in. It’s got every song that was ever on the original Metal Massacre Vol 1, both Steeler and Ratt. Metallica they used the second pressing (second song) the one without Lloyd Grant on it. We are only doing it on Vinyl  cause I wanted to keep it to close to its roots cause all we did was vinyl 40 years ago and we are only doing 7000 (copies) of them. I wanted to make it really special and limited. “

When asked about how he included Metallica’s original song ‘Hit the lights’ on the original Metal Massacre Vol 1 compilation
“The Michael Schenker group played a venue called the Country Club in Reseda, Los Angeles, California on December of 1980. Which I found out later everybody from Metallica to Armored Saint were there. All the bands were at that show even though no one knew each other. So I was there with my good friend John Kornarens who basically helped me with the fanzine and the compilation album. So after the show John sees a kid in the parking lot wearing a Saxon European T shirt. Now in 1980 nobody in L.A. knew who Saxon was let alone would be wearing a European T-shirt. So John runs up to the kid and says where did you get that shirt?  And the kid (Lars) said I just moved here from Denmark two weeks ago I didn’t think anyone knew who Saxon was and John said no no we are totally into it, my friend Brian and I are really into it so you got to meet him. So a couple days later I don’t remember if it was his house or my house but Lars, John and I got all together and started going crazy over the NWOBHM. Lars moving here from Denmark didn’t think he would know anybody, he didn’t think he would find any friends who were into the scene, so we all became friends because of that. So fast forward to a year and a half later so I am putting together this compilation album (Metal Massacre) and Lars called me up and said hey if I put together a band can I be on the record?  I said sure we need bands on the record why not. So I guess the story was he and James (Hetfield) recorded everything and then Lloyd Grant played the lead and that was the original ‘Hit The Lights’. So they brought me a cassette tape at the very last minute, it almost didn’t make it on the record. Lars was probably an hour away from not getting it on time. So they brought a cassette and it cost $50 dollars to bump it up to Quarter inch tape and none of us had the money. Luckily John Kornarens had 50 bucks so he paid the 50 bucks and Metallica ended up on the record. And I didn’t hear it (the Song) until later, the recording wasn’t great but the song was pretty decent.”

When asked about any updates on a new King Diamond album
“I had a really good conversation with King Diamond the other day, and he’s working on both King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. I might have heard a demo or two that sounded really, really good. I don’t know when either of these records are gonna come out, cause King likes to do things at his own speed but I was very happy with what I’ve heard so far. So hopefully everybody will be pretty happy. But there will be a new King Diamond record, I’m hoping, in 2023. And there will also be a new Mercyful Fate record sometime soon.”

At the brink of the 80’s, LA was cementing itself as the rock ‘n’ roll nucleus of the United States. A longtime fan of the local rock scene, Slagel spent many nights inside LA’s locales seeking out the most authentic, heaviest, unique bands to hit the West Coast. Alongside friend John Kornarens, the two split the Metal Massacre project in half – Slagel responsible for artwork and mastering facilities, while Kornarens secured a studio to make the record. “We were using the Yellow Pages a lot, total amateurs navigating the record like a high school project,” adds Kornarens. And that compilation was the foundation of Slagel’s METAL BLADE RECORDS, one of the premiere heavy metal record labels of all-time.

This year Metal Blade Records is celebrating their 40th Anniversary! To celebrate such a huge accomplishment they will be releasing a limited-edition vinyl “Metal Massacre,” out April 22nd.

“Moral Hygiene” is MINSTRY’s 15th studio album. It achieved many “best of 2021” year-end lists, including Loudwire, Consequence Of Sound, Punk News and XS Rock (where it was ranked the #1 album of the year). The record features some of the project’s strongest and most inspired material to date, the creative masterwork of founder and creator Jourgensen who spent the pandemic pause ruminating on the new world we as a society have found ourselves in – while pondering just what we are going to do about it.

The 10 tracks are a follow-up to 2018’s lauded “AmeriKKKant” and put forthJourgensen’s societal manifesto and plea for civilization to get back to a set of standards that lives up to and embraces our humanity.
Previous singles have included ‘Alert Level’ (sounding the alarm on the state society is in), ‘Good Trouble’ (a rallying cry to fight for human rights in homage to Civil Rights leader John Lewis),  ‘Disinformation’ (the dangers of consuming mass media without critical thinking) and ‘Search And Destroy’ (the unique take on The Stooges classic). The latter features guitar virtuoso Billy Morrison (BILLY IDOL/ROYAL MACHINES) who is also heavily featured on a number of songs on the album.

HORIZON IGNITED Announce New Album “Towards The Dying Lands” + Release New Single & Video ‘Reveries’

The newly signed HORIZON IGNITED proudly announce the upcoming release of their long player “Towards The Dying Lands“. The first album of the band published under Nuclear Blast will be released on July 1st of this year. After the massive title single “Towards The Dying Lands“, the Finnish sextet is now revealing the next banger from their highly anticipated album.

The Finns deliver their brand new single “Reveries” including a new stunning music video to heat up and celebrate the upcoming next big milestone in their career. The highly endowed newcomers of melodic death metal convince once again with fiery riffs and they show what you can expect in the near future. The album is available for pre-order now!

Listen to the single here: https://bfan.link/HIreveries
Pre-order the album here:https://bfan.link/HorizonIgnitedTTDL

The band commenting on the new single:
“Reveries is a song about losing all your hope and drowning into despair that you can not escape from. What is it like to lose the grip of yourself and your humanity? How deep are the wounds that grief and loss cut? These core lyrical themes are surrounded by not that typical song for Horizon Ignited. Intro and choruses are massive and melodic giving the listener a spark of hope which is then killed by the heavy verses. The fight between these two main themes of the song creates a fascinating contrast for the lyrics.
The music video for the song was filmed during the band’s pre production session for “Towards The Dying Lands” album at Lammaskallion Audio in Tuusula, Finland. The video is a very raw set of the band performing the song combined with aerial footage from the same day, which turned out to be probably the most beautiful day in the fall 2019. Video is edited by the keyboardist Miska Ek and guitarist Johannes Mäkinen. Aggressive, melancholic and melodic – Reveries.”

Founded back in 2017 by guitarists Johannes Mäkinen and Vili Vottonen, the debut album “After the Storm” was unleashed when the northern winds choked HORIZON IGNITED‘s hometown of Kouvola in early 2019. The completely self-published album met very positive feedback and the band has made its mark since then.
HORIZON IGNITED‘s diverse class of act − captivating and guitar-driven melodic death metal flavored with catchy metalcore elements among others.

BLACK RIVER – Feat. BEHEMOTH Bassist ORION And DIMMU BORGIR Drummer DARAY – Unleash New Single ‘Joker’

Polish rock/metal/punk combo BLACK RIVER – feat. BEHEMOTH bass player ORION and DIMMU BORGIR drummer DARAY – have unleashed their new single ‘Joker‘, out now via Crusader Records / Golden Robot Records. ‘Joker’ is available on all digital platforms at https://bfan.link/blackriver-joker.

Stream ‘Joker’ on Youtube here:

‘Joker’ describes how we live in a seemingly nice world, where we can focus on self-development, earning money, and gigantic compulsive consumption; but in reality, this is an illusion that we choose to accept because it is easier to bear than the truth. ‘Joker’ is fast and furious with an aggressive punk edge to it.

In December 2021, BLACK RIVER released their previous single ‘Crossover Love’ digitally, in case you missed it watch the video at https://youtu.be/kTuFC96zW2s. Listen/Buy ‘Crossover Love’ here: https://smarturl.it/BlackRiver–CL.

BLACK RIVER are set to release their new album ‘Generation aXe’ in 2022. More information TBA.

Vocalist Maciej Taff about Generation aXe: “… one night I woke up very F***ing angry and couldn’t sleep anymore, I realised that the level of this absurdity that surrounds us has exceeded all boundaries, that it is already unbearable, that this is not a world where we, our families and friends want to live. Half the world is starving, 70% of the population of known species have died out in the last 50 years, in many places there is nothing to breathe and the so-called civilisation does not deal with anything other than earning money at all costs. We met together and it was clear we all had the same anger, the same disagreement, the same fucking anger. We decided to express it in our music, to record a 3-4-track EP, vomit all this venom. We met for the first time during the rehearsal, we started talking, playing and … after 2 weeks we were already in the studio, instead of 3 songs we wrote 11 without calculation, in full anger. I thought when we recorded it, it would “pass”…. it hasn’t passed…!”

BLACK RIVER line-up:
Maciej Taff – vocals
Piotr „Kay” Wtulich – guitar
Artur „Art” Kempa – guitar
Tomasz „Orion” Wróblewski – bass (Behemoth)

“I had the pleasure and honor of touring Europe with Survive and they proved themselves to be a valuable asset to the touring package. I can say without hesitation or reservations that they were most definitely my favorite band on the tour. Incredibly nice and gracious guys who obviously loved their music and delivered every single night.
I gave them the nickname ‘The Japanese Machine Head’ a song that they played at every sound check became the tour anthem because of its wonderful chorus structure. Melody, hook lines and brutally heavy guitar riffs define this amazing band who deserve global recognition. Maximum Respect from Jeff (Mantas)”
