Michael Schenker: “If I Joined Ozzy Osbourne, He Would Have Been Sorry”

Jimmy Kay and Alan Dixon from The Metal Voice, spoke with legendary guitarist Michael Schenker about his new upcoming studio album ‘Universal’ which will be released on Atomic Fire Records on May 27th 2022.

When asked about how much new music he has released over the years
“In my whole career it’s just pouring out if I would have joined Ozzy Osbourne he would have been sorry because I did so many things. I did acoustic instrumentals, electric instrumentals, covers, you name it. Fifty years later I did everything I wanted to do out of my system .So now I can relax and focus on the stuff I love most the rock music that I do these days.”

When asked if there was a part of him that regrets not joining at least for one Ozzy album
“That is not how it works. First of all when Ozzy’s offer came up I almost fell for it but I had to from that moment on figure out how to protect myself from being tempted and not ending up doing something that I shouldn’t be doing which I would regret doing later. So I came up with this thing, like Michael why did you leave Europe or leave the Scorpions? For the same reasons you should not join Ozzy Osbourne, Motorhead or Deep Purple or Ian Hunter or any of those people who asked me. For the same reason because I would have to copy all of the stuff for live shows they had done before. I hate copying, it would not be Michael Schenker expressing himself and it would just not make any sense to what my mission is.”

When asked about the musical direction of this new album ‘Universal’ compared to his last studio album
‘I just make sure that I have the songs that I pick they are always like songs that fit well together to make an album balance. Like a good written book, it should not get boring so I make sure that different elements are there to always keep coming up with some surprises that are exciting ect… Basically the difference is these are new songs. It’s a bit like a band, like if you have Led Zeppelin’s first album the songs are like the second album. Why is that cause it’s Led Zeppelin, it’s the same band just new songs.”

SOULFLY’s Mike Leon + POSSESSED’s Daniel Gonzalez Join CAVALERA Brothers for Return Beneath Arise US tour

Mike Leon of Soulfly and Daniel Gonzalez from Possessed will be joining the Cavalera brothers on stage for the Return Beneath Arise US tour.

“Beneath The Remains/Arise tour is coming! Introducing on bass guitar, thrashing and blasting bass beast Mike Leon (Soulfly) and on lead guitar, state of the art, death/thrash expert, Daniel Gonzalez (Possessed/Gruesome). We’re gonna take these songs to the Metal world in the most brutal way ever! Under a pale gray sky, we shall Arise.” – Max Cavalera

“We can only count with the illest players to step on stage with me and Max to play Beneath/Arise. So getting Dan Gonzalez from Possessed/Gruesome and Mike Leon from Soulfly was an amazing choice!… Can’t wait to hit the road!” – Iggor Cavalera

“I am super excited to be a part of the revival of these classic albums with the brothers that created them, it is a great honor! These shows are gonna CRUSH, and I’m sure that we are gonna deliver these songs better than they have ever been played before to everyone who joins us! See you on the road!” – Mike Leon

It would be an understatement to say that I am incredibly stoked and honored to be able to play with Max and Iggor, and the fact that we’ll be playing material from Beneath The Remains and Arise is beyond surreal to me since I grew up worshiping those albums. Max and Iggor helped change the standards of extreme Metal and those albums are still living proof of that. It’s insane to me as a fan and as a musician to be able to play these songs live, and I can’t wait to do them justice!!!” – Daniel Gonzalez

Celebrate with original founding members of influential heavy metal legends and RIAA Gold-Certified Sepultura. Max & Iggor Cavalera will perform a hybrid setlist exclusively of cuts from these two iconic albums Beneath the Remains and Arise.  This tour runs throughout the United States in May and June of 2022.

Since Sepultura‘s formation over 30 years ago, the Cavalera brothers have each seen unparalleled success in the music industry. Max’s more recent work with Soulfly, Go Ahead And Die, Cavalera Conspiracy (also featuring Iggor) and Killer Be Killed, in addition to Iggor’s projects MIXHELL, Petbrick, and Soulwax, proves the lasting power of the Cavalera legacy.

It’s safe to say that the releases of Beneath The Remains (1989) and Arise (1991) completely changed the landscape of metal music throughout the world.

Max Cavalera states “After Covid-19 us Metal Heads need to release our aggression with some Beneath The Remains and Arise!” Iggor Cavalera adds “Can’t wait to perform our “Return Beneath Arise” Tour for our North American fans. See you in the Pit!!!”

VILLE VALO Releases New Single ‘Loveletting’, Debut Album Coming Out in Early 2023, Announces 2023 Headline Tours

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 7, 2022
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Ville Valo. Leave a comment

Finnish Love Metal pioneer, Ville Valo, will release new single, “Loveletting”, on April 8th under the VV banner. “Loveletting” is taken from VV’s forthcoming debut album, ‘Neon Noir’.

Ville explains, “As fun as the funeral rites for HIM were, it took me more than a few moons to lick my wounds in the shadow of the Heartagram and come up with an excuse to strum and hum again. Eventually I decided to put a leash on my beloved black dog and we started howling together instead of barking at each other. That’s how Loveletting was born”.

“Loveletting” will be made available across all digital platforms from midnight tonight (local time). An official video clip will follow tomorrow @ 17:00 CET, HERE.

VV‘s debut album Neon Noir is scheduled for release in early 2023; belonging to the same forlorn world of woe and whimsy once conceived and governed by Valo in HIM, VV arrives with additional nuanced notes of a fine aged Cabernet.

Ville adds, “Artistically speaking the main difference between HIM and VV is the extra line in the Heartagram, but what an exquisite line it is! It’s the Mamas and the Papas dressed up as Metallica on their way to a Halloween bash at the Studio 54, and now who wouldn’t want to witness that?”

Further details around ‘Neon Noir’ will be released in due course. In the meantime, fans are invited to any number of VV’s headline tour dates taking place next year across Europe, the UK and North America.

Naturally starting in Helsinki, Finland, the 2023 extensive run reaches the UK in March, before heading to America come April.

SOCIETY 1 Release Official Music Video for New Single ‘I Never Saw You’, DV “Dirt” Karloff Documentary Out Now

LA Based Industrial Metal band SOCIETY 1 has released the official music video for their new single, “I Never Saw You.” Written by Matt Zane, “I Never Saw You” is off of the band’s final album with the late bassist, Black Level Six, out NOW!

“The album is in memory of DV ‘Dirt’ Karloff. It is the last album we wrote and recorded together before his passing. The corresponding movie is entitled The Altered Noise. The album Black Level Six is the official movie soundtrack, which includes interviews with Dave Navarro, Raymond Herrera, Matt Zane and more.

Black Level Six is an experimental album. The idea was to ask the question, “What would a Society 1 album sound like if we recorded it in 1994 in a similar way that Nirvana recorded In Utero?” We heard they recorded the album in 6 days with Steve Albini and, of course, this was before Pro Tools. So some rules were set up for us such as ‘no vocal tune’ and ‘no copying and pasting vocals.’

The music was recorded in 4 days and guitar solos performed by Justin Manning were an additional day. Mixing took 5 days and was done by punk legend Greg Hetson of The Circle Jerks and Bad Religion.” – MATT ZANE

Black Level Six Track Listing

  1. Death Screams
  2. Bleed You Away
  3. I Am The Walrus
  4. The Ghost Remains
  5. Get Up Again
  6. Altered Noise
  7. I Never Saw You
  8. Love Is Dead
  9. While You Mourn
  10. Who Will Know
  11. Bleed In Me
  12. All For You
  13. Ride The Pain
  14. As I Die

Buy/stream Black Level Six HERE.

Watch The Altered Noise below.

The Matt Zane directed The Altered Noise follows Karloff through various phases of his career and also touches upon his incredibly successful profession as a tattoo artist that saw him inking up celebrities such as Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, and Steve-O.

“His life really was interesting, regardless if you’re a fan or not. He was this young guy from the cornfields of Indiana that came out to Hollywood and within eight months he’s touring the world and that was just the beginning of the story,” says Zane.

Sensory Records welcomes Swiss-Italian cinematic progressive metal outfit VIRTUAL SYMMETRY to the label’s roster.

VIRTUAL SYMMETRY’s Marco Pastorino states, “We are thrilled to announce that we are joining Sensory Records for the release of our next album! They are the best team possible to be part of for the next chapter of our career. We are working extremely hard to give you the best Virtual Symmetry album ever and we are looking forward to giving you more updates very soon!”

Label founder Ken Golden adds, “I’ve been following VIRTUAL SYMMETRY from their first release. Their style of progressive metal fits in perfectly with the Sensory roster. The band has steadily built-up a following in Switzerland, and we are looking forward to presenting them to a worldwide audience.”

Watch for details on the new album to post in the months ahead.

Meanwhile, VIRTUAL SYMMETRY has been confirmed alongside Fractal Universe as support on Evergrey’s extensive 2022 European tour, which runs from September 16th through October 23rd. See all confirmed tour dates and more at the VIRTUAL SYMMETRY official website HERE and at their various social media points.

VIRTUAL SYMMETRY was founded in 2009 as a solo project of guitarist Valerio Æsir Villa, when the first ideas for the debut album, Message From Eternity, began taking shape. The band’s lineup has since expanded to now include vocalist Marco Pastorino, keyboardist Marco “Mark” Bravi, bassist Alessandro Poppale, and drummer Alfonso Mocerino. The band is a revelation in the progressive metal universe, stunning their fans and listeners with influences which range from classical music to contemporary metal and a style characterized by epic suites, rich of cinematic elements and balance between melody and technique, leading the listeners through a dynamic and emotional journey in each track.

Among their live shows some honorable mentions are 2015’s debut live show with Evergrey and Dream Theater, 2017’s live show supporting Deep Purple’s keyboardist Don Airey.

Between 2018 and 2020 the band composed and produced their third album, Exoverse, which was recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in Bath, UK, featuring many special guests, such as legendary drummer Thomas Lang, the return of Dream Theater’s keyboardist Jordan Rudess, saxophonist Ruben Paganelli, the symphonic orchestra Sinfonietta Consonus, and Evergrey’s Tom S. Englund.
