MORTEMIA Release Lyric Video for Single ‘Here Comes Winter’ Feat. Maja Shining

Morten Veland (SIRENIA, MORTEMIA and founder of TRISTANIA) released the 7th Mortemia song from ‘The Pandemic Pandemonium Sessions’ on the 29th of January. The track is entitled ‘Here Comes Winter’ and features Maja Shining (Forever Still) on guest vocals. Today the lyric/performance video of the same song is out, watch it below.

Morten Veland:

“I am proud and honoured to introduce my friend Maja Shining as my special guest for ‘The Pandemic Pandemonium Sessions’. The seventh song is entitled ‘Here Comes Winter’, and will be available on all digital platforms from the 29th of January 2022. Me and Maja toured together back in 2019, when both Sirenia and Forever Still were on the billing of the ‘Female Metal Voices Tour’. We became great friends right away, and it was a pleasure to hear Maja and the band perform every time. I feel truly privileged and thankful to have Maja onboard this project, and I am really looking forward to sharing this song with you all. This song is quite slow and atmospheric, but still packs some heaviness, even a bit doomy at times. And the amount of emotions that Maja has poured into her performance on this song I find no less than breathtaking.”

Maja Shining:

“I met Morten, back when we were touring with Forever Still and Sirenia on the last tour before covid paralyzed the world and put an end to touring for longer than anyone could have possibly imagined. We bonded fast on the month-long Female Metal Voices Tour (maybe it was the Nordic kinship 😉 ), so I was very excited, when Morten asked me to collaborate on a song for Mortemia and said yes before even hearing it. The time of release couldn’t be more ideal, as the song perfectly embodies the spirit of cold, dark Scandinavian winter and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did working on it!“

After 11 years of silence Norwegian multi-instrumentalist, producer and artist Morten Veland is once more active with his solo project Mortemia, this time with a brand new concept. ‘The Pandemic Pandemonium Sessions’ is a series of singles  released on a monthly basis, each song featuring a well known and highly profiled guest singer from the metal scene, so far the following singers has contributed:

Madeleine Liljestam (Eleine)
Marcela Bovio (Stream of Passion, Ayreon, MaYaN, Dark Horse White Horse)
Alessia Scolletti (Temperance, ERA)
Liv Kristine (Liv Kristine, ex-Theatre of Tragedy, ex-Leaves Eyes)
Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum, The Dark Side of the Moon)
Brittney Slayes (Unleash the Archers)
Maja Shining (Forever Still)

Alt-Metal Heroes SOiL Release Fiery Version of NEIL YOUNG’s ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on February 5, 2022
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: SOIL. Leave a comment

When word got back to Neil Young and his band that their 1989 concert performance scheduled to take place in the Soviet Union had been cancelled by antagonistic government authorities, Young’s guitar player Frank Sampedro replied to the news with “well, I guess we’ll have to keep on rockin’ in the free world.” And thus, one of the most legendary and fiercely defiant rock anthems of the 20th century was born. The song became the bookends of Young’s brilliant studio album, Freedom, with an acoustic version kicking it off and an electric version closing it and would eventually be celebrated as one of Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time (#216).

Now that Young’s music has fallen silent on the world’s most prominent musical platform, Spotify, another band has stepped forward to make sure that Young’s rebellious spirit continues to live on with a powerful new version of “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Chicago alternative metal kings SOiL have released their own version of the song to all digital platforms, keeping the fire lit for future generations of rebels and iconoclasts.

As the band explains “Over the years, SOiL has considered covering Neil Young’s ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’ many times. It was a song that really struck a nerve with us individually in our younger days before SOiL was even a band. The song still stands the test of time and is as powerful today as it was back then. This version we recorded was scheduled to be released as part of a special upcoming album due out later this year, but we decided that now would be a good time to let everyone hear our take on the Neil Young classic with the SOiL twist. We hope you all enjoy it!”

WATAIN to Release New Album “The Agony & Ecstasy Of Watain” on April 29th, First Single Unleashed

Notorious Swedish black metal collective WATAIN is proud to unleash “The Howling” – the first single from their upcoming new studio album, “The Agony & Ecstasy Of Watain,” which will be released on April 29th, 2022.

“The Howling” sets the tone for what will be offered on the band’s 7th full-length, an unsettling blackened voyage in 10 chapters that is as inexorably vicious as it is enticing.

E. Danielsson (vocals) adds:
“The Howling refers to the wordless voice of the wild, wailing eerily through the ages, urging us to leave our safe spaces and explore the dark recesses of the great Abyss both within and without. To see it, to learn from it, to know it. “

The single is available in both digital and physical form – a strictly limited 7” with “The Howling” on its A-side and the Profanatica cover “I Arose” on its B-side can be bought as of today (no pre-order!). The Black Vinyl is exclusively available through Nuclear Blast Mailorder, whereas the Oxblood colored version is being sold in the band’s own shop. Act quick as these will be gone fast!

“The Agony & Ecstasy Of Watain” – Tracklist
01. Ecstasies in night infinite
02. The howling
03. Serimosa
04. Black cunt
05. Leper’s grace
06. Not sun nor man nor god

08. We remain
09. Funeral winter
10. Septentrion

Watain crawled out of Satan’s cunt in 1998, and has since then ascended and grown into one of the world’s most well known and notorious Black Metal bands. Their legacy is often referred to with fear, love, confusion or awe, but seldom with indifference.

Their infamous live shows have become a worldwide phenomenon; inimitable ceremonies of wild Black Metal fanatism where the sacred and solemn collides with raw unadulterated force. With their greatly anticipated seventh studio album, Watain continues to arouse and electrify their audience with an unmistakable, adventurous brand of Black Metal Magic, processed and distilled over the course of a 25-year long history.

Recorded live by long time collaborator Tore Stjerna in his infamous Necromorbus studio, now re-located to an old church on the Swedish countryside, ”The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain” takes the listener one huge step closer to the innermost heart of a band that despite always being surrounded by rumors and controversy has always strived for a most sincere and genuine form of expression.

With 10 songs written by the founding trinity of Watain (E. Danielsson, H. Jonsson and P. Forsberg), it is also the first Watain album to be recorded live with a full line up completed by A. Lillo, H. Eriksson and E. Forcas.

The material is further enriched by noble contributions from Farida Lemouchi (ex The Devil’s Blood, now in Molassess) and Gottfrid Åhman (ex In Solitude, now in PÅGÅ).

The lyrics, always a central aspect of every Watain album, range from manic proselytism to profound contemplation on the relativity between life and death, sacred and profane, holy and unholy, agony and ecstasy, eagerly excavating the winding depths of mind and spirit with a new sense of clarity and determination.

Characterized by a morbid sense of beauty mingled with raw primal force, Watain is the wolf that keeps hunting, fearless and free, in the dark night of man.
