British Progressive Rock Luminaries JETHRO TULL recently announced details for the group’s first studio album of new material in over 18 years! Originally making headlines in March of this year, the band’s newest offering, titled ‘The Zealot Gene’, will see a January 28th, 2022 release on Inside Out Music.
They have released the video for the albums second single ‘Sad City Sisters’, directed by Iranian film-maker Sam Chegini who previously created a clip for the much-loved classic ‘Aqualung’. Watch the video now here:
Ian Anderson comments of the track: “Sad City Sisters throws up memories of a Saturday night in Cardiff, Wales when I was on my way home from our concert in St David’s Hall some years ago. It could equally well have been any town in the UK, I suppose, or even most cities of the Western World. What possesses hell-bent and vulnerable young people to slip so easily into that tragic loss of dignity and end up sprawling drunk in a wet and windy street at midnight?”
The Zealot Gene will be offered in the following formats: – Special Edition Digipak CD – Gatefold 2LP+CD+LP-booklet – Limited 2CD+Blu-ray Artbook – Limited Deluxe 3LP+2CD+Blu-ray Artbook
The Deluxe 3LP+2CD+Blu-ray Artbook comes on white vinyl and includes a 3rd LP with the rough demos. It also includes a slipmat and a numbered art print. The blu-ray includes a 5.1 surround sound mix by Jakko Jakszyk (King Crimson).
Seven days into the new year, the party isn’t over yet: Today, the Swedish metal heroes AMARANTHE release a remix of their new single “PvP” – a catchy, energetic piece built to break the dancefloors all over the world!
Olof Mörck comments: “Let’s start this year with bang! If you’re still horizontal from the holiday’s indulgences, here’s what we ordinate to get you picked up in style: a danceable yet crushing remix of ‘PvP’, that works as well with your gaming session as it does in the club! Remixed by Elias Holmlid, who has previously lent his talents to ‘Amaranthine’ and ‘Crystalline’, this interpretation will hit harder than any new year fireworks!”
“PvP” was the official anthem for the Swedish team at the international e-sports world championship. The video was directed by Poland’s Grupa13, who previously worked with the band on ‘Archangel’ or ‘Boom!1’.
AMARANTHE were recently forced to postpone their upcoming co-headline tour with BEYOND THE BLACK and you can now catch both bands on one of the following events next year:

AMARANTHE have spent the last decade establishing themselves as a formidable, positive and fervently melodic force for metallic good. From their explosive self-titled debut in 2011 to the more sophisticated, streamlined likes of 2014’s “Massive Addictive” and its immaculate follow-up “Maximalism” (2016), AMARANTHE have masterfully blurred the lines between melodic metal, crushing brutality, cinematic sweep and futuristic sparkle. Led by the endlessly ingenious songwriting of guitarist OlofMörck and powerhouse vocalist Elize Ryd, their rise to prominence has been a joy to behold. Widely acclaimed as a dazzling live act, the Swedes reached a new peak of creativity on 2018’s hugely successful “Helix”: an album that pushed the band’s vision to new heights, breadths and depths, while showcasing the brilliance of Elize and her co-vocalists, Henrik Englund Wilhelmsson and recent recruit Nils Molin.
Not just a glorious return but a wholesale upgrade for their exuberant sound, “Manifest” is simply the most daring, dynamic and unforgettable album that AMARANTHE have released to date. The perfect antidote to the nagging anxieties plaguing us all in these troubled times, it’s a Technicolor celebration of metal’s ageless power, blazing with all of life’s colours and chaos, but delivered with utmost artistry and skill.
Danish Viking melodic death metallers VANIR have teamed up with Metal Shock Finland to premiere, for Finnish territory, their first single and lyric video ‘Dødsfærd‘ (deaths journey), taken from the band’s forthcoming sixth album “Sagas”, coming out March 11th via Mighty Music/Target Group. The song takes its inspiration from the Words of Hávi (the High One) as a reminder that all our actions echo in death for our legacies to be judged by. Cattle die, Kinsmen die, even you must die, I know one thing that never dies: the judgment of each death.
Watch and enjoy ‘Dødsfærd’ premiere here:
From the Sagas of old, to the halls of Valhalla, from Danish and Germanic battlefields with their bloody battles and fierce warriors, Danish warriors VANIR are back and have put together, without compromise, a new epic album, with a fascination with our common origins, and the blood spilled throughout history. Few bands have more authority to do so: Vanir is one of Denmark’s most well-known and prominent Viking melodic death metal bands. The group has, since it’s inception, released five full-length albums very well received by the media and the avid supporters of the genre. But one can say, without much hesitation, their sixth effort “Sagas” is their best yet.
Written and recorded during the pandemics, mistered and mastered by Rune Stiassny (Iron Fire, ex-Saturnus), “Sagas” is mostly themed around Nordic mythology, but also has a song dedicated to one of the most important fantasy writers in history – J.R.R. Tolkien – who was himself greatly inspired by Nordic mythology and Denmark. On the other hand, a song such as “Black Clad”, has a double-edge sword: it is written as a tribute to the Norse god Brage, but also as a tribute to the fans of metal. The fans that support the scene and who will be the backbone of the live scene in the post-pandemic. Martin Rubini, Vanir’s vocalist, comments: “During the pandemic the world of music was turned upside down, this album has been our anchor in the creative part of our lives in a period where all our shows was cancelled and we still needed to be creative and do what we enjoy, playing metal. With “Sagas” we continue the route we laid out with “Aldar Rök” and “Allfather” and the vision we have for Vanir”.
Such is the Vanir approach to themes in 2021: melodic and fierce soundscapes, with lyrical strings tied to mythology and heathen paganism, but not ending there. “Sagas” artwork portraits this with a mixture of various Norse mythical imageries. It is inspired by the idea of fate and the Norns, which are here interpreted as a singular being, displaying various aspects of fate, while intertwined in its threads. It shows an elegant and feminine and strong imagery. The artwork was done by the bassist Lars Bundvad. “For this album, I didn’t write any music”, he explains. “Having been sidelined due to the pandemic – my immune system is not terribly robust – I wanted to go the extra mile and push myself for the artwork. The Norn portraits a strong feminine character and a sage who holds both wisdom and power. And I’m very happy with the result”.
“Sagas” will be re-released in CD, LP (two different colours, each limited to 300 units) and digital formats via Mighty Music on March 11th, 2022.

Pre-order it here.
Today, the band has shared the video for ‘Two Towers’. Watch ite here:
“Conceptually, ‘Two Towers’ is an abstract story which follows the journey of your past self and future self, and the forces that pull them apart,” the band explains. “Realizing the impossible concept of them meeting, one is faced with the reality of accepting the things you cannot change. It’s a little out of the box for us, but it was challenging and fun to create a unique song for the record. Shout out to director Frankie Nasso and his team for the animated video that brought this story to life.”
