ABHORIA Share New Single ‘False Idols’

Having recently inked a deal with Prosthetic Records, dystopian black metal trio ABHORIA have released False Idols – the second single to be taken from the Los Angeles, CA band’s upcoming self-titled debut album. Alongside False Idols’ release, ABHORIA have also shared an accompanying visualizer that features an extensive exploration of their debut album’s artwork. The video was deftly produced by Aimed & Framed.

Abhoria is due out on February 4 via Prosthetic Records – pre-order the album here.

Stream False Idols via Spotify | Apple Music | Tidal | Deezer | Bandcamp

Speaking on the single release, Vor (guitars) comments: “This was the song that laid the groundwork for what I wanted ABHORIA to be. I feel like it embodies the ‘90s black metal that first got me into the scene, but with a modern touch. Lyrically, it looks at people who present themselves as godlike entities in the hope that others will believe the hype, only to be identified as frauds.”

ABHORIA recorded their debut album remotely, with each member contributing their elements from afar. In fact, the band only met up – and played together – after the album had been recorded. The record was engineered, mixed and mastered by Shane Howard (Martriden, Helleborus) at Sawn & Quartered Studios; Shane was able to capture the raw brutality of the band, but with a layer of slick, modern metal production. A final visual flourish came courtesy of the distinctive cover artwork by fan-favorite Adam Burke.

ABHORIA’s modern take on a classic genre relies less on traditional black metal tropes and leans toward capturing the bleak landscape of an unforgiving world in sonic form. Through their lyrical storytelling, the band explores the darkest corners of the human psyche across the album’s unrelenting eight tracks. First single, Mountebank, focuses on a con artist offering the promise of a better life for only a “small sacrifice…”. Unevangelized looks at a despondent group fighting back against those offering “salvation” through religion. Grave Expectations explores a mysterious benefactor who lures people in only to hunt them for game.

ABHORIA invite you to discard your preconceptions of the genre, and embrace a take on black metal that reflects the relentless bleakness of a world not far from our own.

Abhoria tracklist:
1. False Idols
2. Mountebank
3. The Thorn
4. Byzantine Promises
5. Grave Expectations
6. Unevangelized
7. Hollow
8. Sunless

PORT NOIR return with a glorious slice of progressive dark pop/alt-rock on new single ‘All Class’ Taken from their upcoming new album, the band once again push the envelope with a track that blends the electro/rock influences of Enter Shikari with direct pop suss of recent Royal Blood. Driven by a powerful percussive backing, elevated by wonderful vocals and an unforgettable hook, ‘All Class’ is Port Noir 3.0 in technicolour perfection!

The band says:
“All class” is a bold, captivating and a different kind of track that crosses a lot of genres. Unlike many of our songs this one came together quite fast and rather late in the album process, it had a vibe and feel that we just fell for instantly. We knew from the start that we wanted to have it as a single.” // Port Noir

Port Noir is one of those rare bands that, try as you might, are impossible to fit into a neat box. Mixing edgy, contemporary dark pop, R&B, and rock into a sound that is both unique and refreshing. Hailing from Sweden, the band have released three critically acclaimed albums (the brand-new album is imminent) and toured extensively, including support shows with the likes of Karnivool, Leprous, Kaiser Chiefs, In Flames, Vola, Pain of Salvation, as well as prestigious festival appearances including Eurosonic ESNS.

The band’s previous album (‘The New Routine’) saw a significant increase in listeners/streams, pushing the band’s support of over 7 million streams, as well as garnering fantastic support across the press and radio. They have been reviewed by Distorted Sound Magazine, Lounder Sound, Gaffa, Metal.de, Everything is Noise, Time For Metal, World of Metal to name a few. Like everyone else, everything came to grinding halt with Covid for the band, but, undeterred, they utilized their down time and began working on new songs and new ideas, all which culminated in some of the band’s most diverse, eclectic, and powerful new material to date. As you’ll witness when the new album arrives in 2022.

Members: Love Andersson (Vocals, Bass), AW Wiberg (Drums) and Andreas Hollstrand as a session musician (Guitar). Produced by Port Noir / Vocals & Synths/FX recorded by Port Noir. Recorded by Daniel Bergstrand (Devin Townsend, In Flames, Behemoth) alongside Fredrik Thordendal (Meshuggah). Mixed & Mastered by Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna).

Swiss Black Metal duo ERNTE have released their highly anticipated debut album, “Geist und Hexerei” today with Vendetta Records. The band celebrates the record’s arrival with the premiere of a brand new music video for the track “Montane Mastery”, which can be streamed here:

Inspired by ancient spirits, the force of nature and witchcraft, “Geist und Hexerei” features eight relentless tracks of True Hellvetic Black Metal with an undeniable preference for Nordic melodies. Bleak and desperate moments, as well as the ability to balance light and darkness, make this album a remarkable debut of two musicians who are by far no strangers to the scene. Founded in 2020 by main songwriter and guitar player V. Noir, who after almost 20 years of creating dark ambient music, photography, painting and graphic art decided that it was time to return to his Black Metal -roots, and joined by Witch N. (shEver, Ashtar), a sinister storm was unleashed with ERNTE, one that rages relentlessly with passion and wrath.

“Geist und Hexerei” is out now on Vendetta Records and available for purchase here:

Mascot Records ‘Christmas Rocks, Vol. 2’ EP Out Now

O Rock All Ye Faithful!  Mascot Records today are thrilled to reveal their new seasonal ‘CHRISTMAS ROCKS, Vol.2’ E.P. which is now available on all digital platform here https://smarturl.it/Christmas-Rocks

The festive frivolities are deliciously spread out and come in the shape of LA powerhouse vocalist Beth Hart, Indiana duo The Cold Stares, your new favourite Southern rockers The Georgia Thunderbolts,  guitar-wizard Paul Gilbert, and Maryland rockers Any Given Sin.

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Beth Hart reinterprets “Angels from the Realms of Glory,” the traditional Christmas Carol written by Scottish poet James Montgomery. The song is featured in the new Netflix film, A Castle For Christmas, starring Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes. “I really loved doing this Christmas song. It’s one I’ve always loved,” Hart says. “It was really fulfilling and fun. I saw bits and pieces of the movie and one particular scene that the song is in, and it’s just beautiful.”

The Cold Stares take their own spin on a country icon on “Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy.” “We took the opportunity to play something on the Christmas album that no one would expect. I always loved Buck Owens and the song from when I was a kid and thought, what would our version sound like on some cassette in a truck stop in the ’90s?” says Chris Tapp.

New Maryland rockers Any Given Sin are already muscling out the big guns on the Active Rock charts in the U.S. hitting #1 on SiriusXM Octane and they took on the challenge to write an original song, “Nothing For Christmas,” and embraced the opportunity with bells on it. “[vocalist] Vic came up with the idea and sent it to the team, and we all liked it, so we built on it from there. In 5 days, the song went from the infancy stage to mastered. Our hopes are that it will be a holiday favourite for years to come,” they say.

Fresh from the release of their debut album, Can We Get A Witness this fall, new Southern rock heroes The Georgia Thunderbolts bring the eggnog party with a cover of the classic “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.” “We’re bringing classic nostalgia back for those who may have forgotten the song or never heard it. We feel that Christmas is a very special time for people. We wanted to put our spin on a Christmas classic to show that you can have the holiday spirit all year round. Rain or shine, it’s always Christmas time with The Georgia Thunderbolts!” they say.

Rhythm and speed merchant Paul Gilbert goes headfirst into instrumental joy on “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”

One particular Christmas was particularly significant to an eleven-year-old, Gilbert. “I had been banging away on a Stella acoustic guitar for a couple of years,” he says. “I didn’t know how to tune the guitar, so I solved the problem by only playing the low E string,” he adds.

“Despite my limitations, I had developed some authority on that one string. But then my uncle came to visit and took a look in my local newspaper, in the “Musical Instruments For Sale” section. He quickly spotted a used Gibson. I had saved up some money from selling ceramic hippopotamus banks that I made in my dad’s pottery studio and from mowing the lawn. The guitar in the ad was still twice the price that I could afford,” he remembers.

“But CHRISTMAS was coming, so I asked my parents about getting the guitar. They said they could pay the other half but would tighten their budget, so I wouldn’t be getting any toys. I chose the guitar.”

Venture onwards, you’re now ready for a rock ‘n’ roll Christmas.

Track list

  1. Any Given Sin – Nothing For Christmas
  2. The Georgia Thunderbolts – Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree
  3. Beth Hart – Angels From The Realms Of Glory (from the Netflix Film A Castle For Christmas)
  4. The Cold Stares – Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy
  5. Paul Gilbert – We Wish You A Merry Christmas

RE-ARMED Release Acoustic Version of ‘Beyond The Horizon’

Finnish melodic death metal act RE-ARMED have released a new acoustic version and music video for “Beyond the Horizon”. The track was originally released on 2020 to “Ignis Aeternum” -album (released: Black Lion Records), and it kind of guided the band to new direction in musically and thematically. Now the song gets new flesh around its bones for example with featuring female vocalist Mirva Saviniemi. Their upcoming 20th anniversary EP “XX”, will be out on 27 January 2022 worldwide via Inverse Records.

Listen to “Beyond the Horizon”:

Bandcamp: https://re-armed.bandcamp.com/
Apple Music: https://apple.co/3EvuC4J
Amazon: https://amzn.to/3odllbr
Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/us/album/270812482
Tidal: https://listen.tidal.com/album/204037523

The band comments on the new version:
‘We simply wanted to transform our strongest song into an acoustic version. The song maintains the same melancholy as original version, but instead of blasting and bursting the expression leans on ambients and clean vocals. Mirva’s vocals are dominant and works nicely together with Jouni’s clean vocals – not forgetting Oskari’s great vocal stems. This combination definitely lifted this song to another level. We simply wanted to show with this version that we are not carved from one metal sheet and this version proves that we can basically do whatever comes to our minds in a creative sense. The track is perfect fit to our upcoming 20 Years Anniversary EP release.’

Watch below the music video “Beyond the Horizon (acoustic version)”.

“XX” EP: tracklist:

  1. As the Stars Align
  2. Monoeyes
  3. Beyond the Horizon (acoustic version)
  4. Tomorrow
  5. Ode to Life (symphonic version)
  6. Evolve Cycle (arcade version)
