THE GOODBYE SUMMER Release ‘Rocket’ Lyric Video

Canadian Pop-punk band THE GOODBYE SUMMER release their new lyric video for “Rocket” and premiere via Ghost Cult Magazine! The video can be viewed here.

The Goodbye Summer adds – “Rocket is the last song on The Goodbye Summer’s Self Titled Album and is about coming to the realization that it is up to you to take control of your life in order to chase your dreams. Even if it means leaving everything behind. ”

The video has also been released on the band’s Youtube channel and can be found here:

A place can carry memory, visceral reactions that evoke a sense of time and space. Like ghosts in the fog or passing ships in the night, returning to an area with an emotional connection retracts a long veiled tether between the self and a former life.

That is the case with Kentville, Nova Scotia’s The Goodbye Summer and their debut self-titled album, a love-letter to home, and a kaleidoscope of emotions that come with leaving it.

Founded by band architect and vocalist/guitarist Daniel Hornell – with self-described drum nerd Alex Heibein and wildly adaptable bassist Brad Dodge – The Goodbye Summer are a genre hybrid that serve as a loving throwback to the turn of the century changes in pop-punk and the rise in emo in the mid 2000s.

Tips of the proverbial hat to trend-setters Blink 182, Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, Rise Against, New found Glory and Ten Second Epic can be found across the ten-song debut LP.

Formerly of Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador, Hornell’s love of music came fast and furious from a young age from the moment he picked up an electric guitar at the age of 12. He’s been the driving force of bands and musical projects across Atlantic Canada ranging from pop punk, to techno and screamo. But in 2020 Hornell decided that it was time to cement his own path, without limitations.

“When I first landed here back in 2011, it was all about deejay, techno and rap. I was doing that for artists and rappers in the area and eventually did a bit of my own. But it just wasn’t my vibe,” he recalled. “It came to the point where it was like, OK, I’ve been writing songs for 15 years. I’ve got all these songs and they all had this leaving home, crying about girls vibe. I’m going to package this. I’m going to make this my band.”

Recruiting London, Ontario native Alex Heibein and former session-mate Brad Dodge, Hornell carved out the bones of what would become the debut LP of The Goodbye Summer, a concept record of sorts reflecting the emotional highs and lows that came from leaving his home province a decade prior.

“We made The Goodbye Summer, which is all about the summer I left home from Newfoundland and the emotions in that. That longing of wanting to be back home. And it had a lot of emo vibes and a real good source of lyrics for the album and for the band. I’ve got a fountain of this. There’s going to be more longing for home songs.”

Not content to ride out the COVID-19 pandemic resting on the laurels of their critically praised debut, the trio quickly set to work releasing, as Hornell put it, a “rough and ready” EP Sad Boy Buzz Words, mere months after the release of their debut LP.

Recorded, mixed and mastered by the trio, the EP presents a live off the floor quality, and a renewed grit and bite to the band, trading in some of the melancholy of their self-titled for the sweat infused hysteria of their live performance.

“We were so dragged out by the end of that first record, it took so long to do it, that with the Sad Boys record we just said f**k it. I’m going to show up at seven o’clock and by midnight the song is completely recorded and done. I think you can really hear that on the EP. It’s live off the floor. It’s kind of sketchy and it lands.”

Fast, raw and full of heart, Sad Boy Buzz Words is the perfect compliment to the introspective journey of their sad-boy-summer debut, though a return to those roots and tug-on-the-heartstrings youth in revolt angst could be in order in 2022.

“While we were doing Sad Boys we also recorded an acoustic EP with all new songs, five songs. And LP two is totally in the works,” Hornell teased, sharing that the TBA record has ’10-12 songs’ which are ‘pretty much ready to go.’

“If that first one’s a concept album, this one is an extension of it reflecting back. I think we’re going to try to do it more like Sad Boys, with that rough and ready energy in there. That’s definitely what we’re going for. It’s fast, angry letters to your high school girlfriend.”

Pop-punk fans won’t be saying that long farewell to The Goodbye Summer anytime soon.

THERE’S A LIGHT Release New Single + Official Music Video ‘Dark Clouds Behind, Bright Skies Ahead’

Shortly after German post-rock/experimental quintet THERE’S A LIGHT signed a record deal with Napalm Records, the band announced their second album/label debut – f̶o̶r̶ ̶w̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶m̶a̶y̶ ̶I ̶h̶o̶pe̶? for what must we hope?, out December 10, 2021 – and lifted the lid on its first single “Elpis”. Fans of their atmospheric and multilayered post-rock can already take a further glimpse into the soundscapes of fo̶r̶ ̶w̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶m̶a̶y̶ ̶I ̶h̶o̶pe̶? for what must we hope?  with the newly released single “Dark Clouds Behind, Bright Skies Ahead”, including a pure music video.

True emotions do not require words. That’s what THERE’S A LIGHT have proven many times, as with new single “Dark Clouds Behind, Bright Skies Ahead”. A fulfilling opening is followed by familiar peaceful guitar melodies and ambient interjections that detach the listener from mundane concerns. Each note drifts weightlessly through the atmosphere before fading into eternity. In addition, the warm cello tunes of passionate guest musician Akito Goto join in, gently embracing the listener in auditory bliss, assuring that everything’s going to be alright. The music video goes hand in hand and tells a profound story with the purest of visual means and brings peace with one’s internal conflicts.

THERE’S A LIGHT on “Dark Clouds Behind, Bright Skies Ahead”:
“If you ever experienced this phenomenon in nature, on a hike or wherever you are without shelter from the elements, you will not forget it. It’s a calming and beautiful sight when you see a dark storm front moving away from you while the sun comes out.

For us this is a metaphor – life is a constant flow between ups and downs. But no matter how dark a storm is, there will always be a bright sky ahead. This song tries to capture this motion and feeling. Thank you so much for listening!”

Watch the new music video for “Dark Clouds Behind, Bright Skies Ahead” HERE:

Thematically, on f̶o̶r̶ ̶w̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶m̶a̶y̶ ̶I ̶h̶o̶pe̶? for what must we hope? THERE’S A LIGHT take a deeper look at the question of the true meaning of hope as well as at the different facets of it: On the one hand, hope can be something positive – a flourishing force that always gives a new impulse to grow beyond oneself. On the other hand, it can also do harm, for example, if one holds on to something that will never become reality.

The radiant album opener “...The Storm Will Set The Sails” immediately enchants with its shimmering melody and great arrangements, while the following “Within The Tides” presents a more dramatic, progressive touch with impressive technique and rhythm. The driving “Like The Earth Orbits Sun” is one of the tracks that features bassist Andreas Richau’s captivating, emotional vocals, along with the multi-faceted exclamation point “Elpis” and spherical “Be Brave, Fragile Heart“. “Dark Clouds Behind, Bright Skies Ahead” and “Appearance Of Earth” open up another spectrum of sound and expand the cosmos with the passionate cello playing of guest musician Akito Goto. The grand finale “Even In The Darkest Place…” weaves powerful instrumentation with dreamy moments into a harmonious overall construct, once again underscoring a hypnotic post-rock experience in the style of bands like God Is An Astronaut, Russian Circles and Sigur Ros.

THERE’S A LIGHT on the new album:
“So, we asked ourselves what hope stands for and what it means to us. We had a lot of conversations within the band about the good but also the bad aspects of hope and our experiences with it.

And we got answers and inspiration by history and philosophy. Like Kant who has extremely positive views on this topic – hope is necessity for human existence, it’s not seen by him as a personal but collective thing. This is where the album title came from.

The whole process of creating this album really took us on a journey and we found new ways to express our thoughts and feelings with our music. We took a few trips to France and wrote songs together in a cabin, but we also had to write a lot of parts simultaneously, since we are not living in one city any more. We had the chance to work together with new lovely people but we also reconnected with old partners in crime.

All in all it wasn’t an easy journey, but now we made it and are happy and proud to finally release this album with Napalm Records!”

Nergal’s ME AND THAT MAN Release Third Single Feat. Mysterious Mary Goore

Behemoth mastermind Adam Nergal Darski and his dark folk/blues/Americana influenced solo project ME AND THAT MAN continues its celebrity team-up with the new Western-inspired single “Under the Spell” featuring the mysterious Mary Goore, alongside a captivating music video.

In contrast to the recently published soulful blues-rock ballad “Angel of Light” (ft. Myrkur), ME AND THAT MAN now enters heavier horizons. Dark guitars, a galloping duo of snare and bass and the raspy tingling and well-known voice of featured guest Mary Goore create an ambience full of untamed anger with an unmistakable vintage Western touch.

Nergal about “Under the Spell”:
“Here we go folks! We’re back again, this time with “Under The Spell” featuring Mary Goore. It’s rockabilly on steroids – I love the song. It’s a part of ME AND THAT MAN that we hadn’t yet explored in this form. For now, enjoy the single, full album will be with you soon!”

Adam Nergal Darski has signed a menacing pact with the devil once again, returning with dark folk/blues/Americana influenced solo project ME AND THAT MAN’s third full-length studio album, New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.2, on November 19, 2021 via Napalm Records.

Nergal on the new album:
“Here we go again, mother lovers! New Man, New Songs, Same Shit VOLUME 2. You guys know the drill, I recruited the best of the best in heavy music to collaborate on some unique tracks me and the Polish, Italian and Ukrainian crew have been working on over the last 18 months. Once again, the result, amazing and the performances, inspired! Thank you, Comrades – Abbath, Alissa, Amalie, Anders, Blaze, Chris G, Chris H, David, Devin, Douglas, Frank, Gary, Hank, Jeff, Kris, M.Goore, Michale, Ralf and Randy. Who knows when we’ll get together to play these songs but I will try my best to make it happen! Enjoy it everyone!”

Following the chart-topping part one of the album, ME AND THAT MAN now present whole new facets: Opening track “Black Hearse Cadillac”, featuring the vocals of Hank von Hell and guitar sorcery by Anders Odden, marks a sinister beginning to this infernal journey through dark desert soundscapes and evil lyricism. Driving “Under The Spell” (feat. Mary Goore) lives up to its title, at times evoking a spaghetti western-esque ambience. Songs like wicked “Witches Don’t Fall in Love” (feat. Kristoffer Rygg/Ulver), straight-to-the-head rocking “Blues & Cocaine” (feat. Michale Graves) and mysterious “Goodbye” – with a haunting yet powerful vocal attack by Alissa White-Gluz – showcase the record’s extensive variety and that there’s something unexpected lurking all throughout. This is further evident on songs like the soulful blues-rock ballad “Angel of Light” featuring the compelling voice of Myrkur, or insanely dynamic, uptempo outburst of “Got Your Tongue” feat. Chris Georgiadis (Turbowolf).

After the enticing debut Songs of Love And Death (2017), followed by sophomore release New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.1, its sequel once again mirrors Nergal in a completely different light and provides a tremendous contrast to the extreme metal sounds of Behemoth.

New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.2 track listing:

  1. Black Hearse Cadillac (feat. Hank Von Hell, Anders Odden)
  2. Under the Spell (feat. Mary Goore)
  3. All Hope Has Gone (feat. Blaze Bayley, Gary Holt, Jeff Mantas Dunn)
  4. Witches Don’t Fall in Love (feat. Kristoffer Rygg)
  5. Losing My Blues (feat. Olve Abbath Eikemo, Frank The Baptist, Chris Holmes)

New Project MINDOHM to Release Single ‘The Ohm Law’ on December 10th

Born from an idea by guitar player Dave Mutti in collaboration with bass player and producer Santo Clemenzi (From The Depth) and drummer Massimo Goletti (ex-Deimos), MINDOHM is a new project that bring together the heavy riffing of modern metal with more progressive and melodic solutions. With the joining of singer and keyboardist Mauro Mugiati (A Lifelong Journey, Banda Belzoni), the project has definitely found its stable line-up.

Started in 2014, the project has been put aside for some years but lately, also because of the pandemic, the production of new songs started again and the debut EP is ready for the release. On the band website you can find a countdown to the first release: first single “The Ohm Law” will be released on December 10th 2021, available for streaming and download. On the same day, the official lyrics video will be available as well. The song will be followed by 2 other singles to be released within the following months and included in the debut EP scheduled for the mid 2022.

The cover artwork of “The Ohm Law” realized by Santo Clemenzi.

You can pre-save the single on Spotify at: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/mindohm/the-ohm-law
