UK’s VENOM PRISON are unleashing “Judges Of The Underworld”, the first song and video taken from their upcoming album, “Erebos”. that will be out worldwide on February 4th, 2022.

While the song is available on all DSPs the video will be premiered at 6pm CET/5pm UK/1pm ET/10amPT. The clip was directed and produced Thomas Coe Brooker with creative input coming from VENOM PRISON’s own Larissa Stupar (vocals):

The band comments “’Judges Of The Underworld’ deals with the crippling reality of people who face incarceration, who oftentimes are followed by violence over a lifetime. This violence can present itself as a dominating factor in a context of structural poverty and racial inequality, creating roles in an individual’s  life where they are not only the victim, but also witness and offender at different times in different situations. But the violence we address in our courts and prisons is judged out of social context and can therefore not lead to a fair and personalised resolution for people who are stuck in a cycle of violence and systematic oppression.

It was important for us to visualise this feeling of isolation, anxiety and repeated violence in the music video for ’Judges Of The Underworld’ and the idea was to show an individual that is stripped down to their basic needs and instincts. Consumed by their helplessness to navigate in an everyday situation, feeling isolated within themselves whilst going under in a sea of people that face similar conditions. This is where Thomas Coe Brooker comes in as a director and cinematographer, with his unique eye for detail he was able to bring out this combative helplessness and aggressiveness of said individual. He was able to convey the feeling of being alone in a crowd, suffering the same fate as many others, where isolation becomes your existence and a vicious cycle of your life at the hands of systematic violence.”

VENOM PRISON has carved an uncompromising space for themselves over the course of two full-length albums, “Animus” (2016) and “Samsara” (2019) with 2020’s “Primeval” reinvigorating the band’s earlier EPs with two newly written tracks added. What began as an explosive collaboration between Russian-born vocalist Larissa Stupar and guitarist Ash Gray (with the lineup rounded out by guitarist Ben Thomas, bassist Mike Jefferies and drummer Joe Bills) has exploded into a force to be reckoned with as vitriolic and outspoken lyrically as they are musically.

Pagan Metal Legends BORNHOLM Present Third Single + Video ‘Black Shining Cloaks’ from New Album

Gearing up to release their fifth studio album, Apotheosis, this Friday, November 5, Hungarian black/pagan metal outfit BORNHOLM showcase a powerful asset in the void between pagan and black metal with new single “Black Shining Cloaks”, featuring a virtuosic solo from King Diamond/Mercyful Fate guitarist Mike Wead. Dark, almost doomy influences merge with background vocals in their trademark vocal spectrum of somber growls and ear-splitting screams and heavy, irascible guitar lines.

BORNHOLM on “Black Shining Cloaks”:
“”Black Shining Cloaks” is one of the earliest songs from this album. It is from the time when our previous album was released. We felt from the very beginning that this song is perfect for a music video. We decided that as the song was born, but this is quite different from the other songs on the album. The tempo, the structure is simpler, but the atmosphere is very strong.

The solo at the end of the song was originally written and played by Mike Wead from King Diamond/Mercyful Fate. I felt that this song needed something unique at the end part, and I asked him what he thinks about it, and he recorded this really outstanding solo part that is the highlight of the song. We are so thankful for it because he is one of my most honoured guitarists. This is a huge honour for us. We worked with Johan Baath again at the beautiful Van der Nootska Palace in Stockholm. The milieu of the building was perfectly suited to our imaginations.

The lyrics of the song take us behind the thick curtains of the world of secret societies. A small group of enlightened people, who since the birth of mankind, have controlled and formed the human world; creating ages, cultures, and history from the beginning. They drive humanity through the ages to the very end, the deification of man. As the light splits into colours by the prism, they split knowledge into a thousand pieces, creating ideologies, cults and religions all around the world. You cannot find the original divine light among those colours, nor the truth among the religions or philosophies… you have to unify them to see it. There is only one light and the infinite darkness, the origin of everything, which allows for this light to shine.”

Watch the new music video for “Black Shining Cloaks” HERE:

Apotheosis not only showcases BORNHOLM’s tonal development, but also goes back to the origins of the band’s history and the heavy, often almost doomy influences mixed with indispensable atmospherically dark and raw flavor. Accompanied by sinister sacral sounds of historic proportions and a hypnotizing, incantatory chant, intro track “I Divine” heralds the dark ride to nowhere. It is precisely in the void between pagan and black metal that the sound finds its home, with tracks like “Spiritual Warfare”, as well as “Black Shining Cloaks” (the latter of which featuring a magnificent guitar solo by Mike Wead of King Diamond/Mercyful Fate) and its diabolic, atmospheric intro track “The Key to the Shaft of the Abyss” representing the mellowness and extremes of the band. Along with the almost melodic borrowings and acoustic guitar inserts in combination with the pure rawness of “To the Fallen”, the record highlights the band’s variety and sonic progression. The title track “Apotheosis” is a slow, howling homage mixing aggressive, shrieking vocals and melodiously grim anecdotes. Album closer “Enthronement” closes the metaphorical and musical bracket and provides the 52-minute piece with a venerable, instrumental conclusion.

BORNHOLM add:
“So the day has come, the new album is coming! Its title is Apotheosis, which is a Greek originated word meaning deification, divinization and the glorification of a human to a divine level. It contains 11 tracks and drives deeper into our musical world and soul than ever before.

We had to deal with a lot of difficulties both in the studio and in our private life during the making, but somehow something was always guarding the birth of the record. Nothing stopped, not even for a single moment, no matter what happened. It was a great experience to go through this uprising while the world is going into another direction. We didn’t lack anything; fate was with us – so the birth of the record was a sort of magical experience. Step by step, everything was in place in time and, without tolerating the outside world, we built another one for ourselves.”

Dubbed the most elegantly decadent rock n’ roll unit of the 21st century, Montreal’s DANGEREENS recently released their first 2 singles ‘Thieves’ and ‘Streets Of Doom’ from their new label Golden Robot Records. They have today released a 3rd single ‘Love Jive’ on all digital platforms.

Listen/Buy ‘Love Jive’ HERE

‘Love Jive’ is a slight departure from their glitter rock sound and is a Southern-rock inspired boogie executed by slum-roaming city dwellers. The lyrics describe a youth who abandons his predictable situation for a utopian, bohemian promised land, only to find out that life had other plans for him. The track contains finely arranged guitar twangs and pedal steel swells served atop thick, luscious bass grooves and steady, toe-tappin’ drumlines.

DANGEREENS take you back to the glory days of 70’s glitter rock. One listen and the influences will come pouring out and transport you back into one of the finest ever rock eras!

Dangereens are the most elegantly decadent rock n’ roll unit of the 21st century, period. Their sound and aesthetic combine touches of 70s junkshop glam with sleazy, primal 50s rock n’ roll. Known locally as one of Montreal’s finest toe tapping acts, theses cats are guaranteed to make you scream and shout, while wearing your finest glitter and sequin blouse!

The band formed in the spring of 2017, and since then they have engaged in a feverish song writing streak that led them to put out their self-titled EP, their proudest and most accomplished release so far. Since their formation, the band have toured restlessly around countless Canadian cities like Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec and Halifax, as well as American cities like New York and Boston. Their live performances include theatrical elements mixed with high energy, glitter punk attitude.

Now joining forces with Golden Robot Records, the band is ready, willing and able to take on the rest of the world!

German black metal experimentalists DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT will be releasing a brand new-full length, ‘Noktvrn,’ on November 19 via Season of Mist! The band is now sharing the official music video for their deep, dark new track, “Immortal,” which features guest vocalist Dávid Mako of THE DEVIL’S TRADE. The video and song can be found together at THIS LOCATION.

DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT vocalist  Nikita Kamprad comments on the collaboration: “Early 2018, I was asked by Crippled Black Phoenix to fill in on guitars. After two shows in the Netherlands and Germany we started our journey through the eastern parts of Europe and in Budapest we were joined by a Hungarian dark singer-songwriter I never heard of back then. This was the first time I met our friend Dávid Mako aka The Devil’s Trade who’s one of those artists being able to move you to tears solely through his voice. Ever since I saw him performing his doomy folk songs for the first time I knew there’s something absolutely unique about him and on top he’s just one of the nicest and most humble human beings I know.

“Having finished the instrumental of the song I was pretty sure, it needed a ‘different’ kind of vocal for the verse parts. Being a song that is quite different already, combining a simple song structure with new approaches in sound design and using synthesizers for the very first time, I had a feeling to make the song even more special by giving it a guest vocal performance. Without hesitation we asked Dávid for this and he immediately accepted our invitation.”

We hope you are as excited about the song as we are, as after the 1st and 2nd single this is probably not the typical Der Weg einer Freiheit song you would expect!”

Dávid Mako adds: “I love Der Weg Einer Freiheit. Every single one of them. To take part in their vision is among the best things ever happened to me.”

‘Noktvrn‘ is available for pre-ordering in the Season of Mist shop on CD digipak, Deluxe CD + DVD box, Vinyl and Cassette HERE. Pre-save the album HERE.

The cover artwork of ‘Noktvrn’ was created by Max Löffler.
