Hope you enjoy it!”

Los Angeles, California’s Nekrogoblikon are melodic hard rock pranksters who deploy gnarly death metal earworms filled with crafty hooks, claw-pumping choruses, lightning-fast riffs, and over the top, EDM-style keyboard flourishes. With their ostentatious goblin hypeman John Goblikon, the band takes cues from hyperbolic horror-metal enthusiasts like GWAR, Finntroll, and Dethklok, while maintaining an affable, self-referential sense of humour. The group’s early outings, like 2007’s Goblin Island, were largely low-fidelity affairs, but by the early 2010s, Nekrogoblikon were operating at a far higher technical level, and employing a rotating cast of talented players.

Founded in 2006, Nekrogoblikon self-produced their debut album, the relatively lo-fi Goblin Island, in a basement. The LP was released in 2007, and an expanded line-up was quickly assembled to help flesh out the fledgling group’s audacious live shows. The more technically proficient Stench arrived in 2011, and included the single ‘No One Survives’ — the video written and directed by Brandon Dermer (Panic At The Disco, Every Time I Die, Diplo, Dillon Francis) became a viral hit, and landed the band festival slots at Download Festival in the UK and Rock Im Park/Rock Am Ring in Germany. The Power EP was issued the following year, and in 2014 the band joined Limp Bizkit on the Kerrang! Tour. In 2015 they released the concept LP Heavy Meta via their own Mystery Box label, and in 2018, Nekrogoblikon issued their fourth studio long-player, Welcome to Bonkers, which was followed by extensive touring including performing on the entirety of the final cross-country Vans Warped Tour and Summer Slaughter. In between touring stints, the band (along with Brandon Dermer and writer/actor Dave Rispoli) released three seasons of RIGHT NOW, a comedic talk show starring band mascot John Goblikon. The series features a wide array of high profile guests including comedian Bobby Lee, The Used, Keith Buckley from Every Time I Die, Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit, and Joe Trohman from Fallout Boy.

Start Your Year Right With APOCALYPTICA Coffee

Finland’s multi-Platinum cello-rockers APOCALYPTICA have issued the following:

It’s a new year! This probably means you’re going to need coffee. And a lot of it.

That’s why we are writing to you about our coffee collab with Helsingin Lahvipaahtimo! We want to bring you a delicious dark cup of the good stuff.

See it for yourself here: https://en.helsinginkahvipaahtimo.fi/product/72/

The process of creating this coffee was actually super fun. We visited them and tried a bunch of different coffees they were working on in order to find one that best fit what Apocalyptica is all about! It was a caffeinated blast!

The coffee we ended up creating has a dark chocolatey flavor, with hints of licorice and roasted almonds, but supported by a long and creamy aftertaste. Of course – knowing our fans we made sure that it was super caffeinated too! This means that this coffee works as a classic espresso but also as a latte or filter coffee.

We’ve got it available pre-ground or as the beans themselves. Whatever your coffee setup – we’ve got you covered.

It’s less than 12 euros a bag, and is in our humble opinion, some of the tastiest coffee out there today. Why not go for it?

Happy drinking!
Apocalyptica

Even though the crowdfunding campaigned ended on January 2nd, the “Bear Awakener” pre-orders go on live at https://igg.me/at/bearawakener

Watch the video here:

Planned release date of “Bear Awakener” is on March 13th 2022! According to an ancient Finnish bear calendar this date marked the end of winter hibernation and awakening of the bears.

Just recently Tuomas unveiled the third Episode for “Bear Awakener” backgrounds and The Bear Awakening songs.

What are the Bear awakening songs all about and how do they sound?? This episode gives an example of a bear awakening song by a Mansi singer Konstantin Atjin. Recorded over a century ago. What did he sing about? At the end you’ll get to hear this wax cylinder recording✨

Tuomas adds: “The Episode 3 is my favorite so far. Getting to the core of Bear awakening songs itself. The material that the entire album is based upon. Poetic and informative. I am also delighted to be able to share one archived wax cylinder recording with the permission of Institute for language of Finland that hosts this collection. This enables my fans to access the same mental time travelling that has inspired me so much.”

What is “Bear Awakener”?
The name Bear Awakener comes from specific songs sung in order to awaken the bear. This album dives deep into the bear myths and is designed to re-awaken or cherish anyones connection with this mythical entity.

The myth of a bear’s origin is identical among the Finns and the indigenous Khanty and Mansi people. Both cultures run ceremonial Bear feasts that last several days. Many songs, dances and plays are performed in honor of the bear. Tuomas Rounakari has studied the bear feast songs of all of these cultures. There are thousands of verses containing bear related myths in the vast archives of Finland and the tradition is now returning among the Khanty and Mansi.

TUOMAS ROUNAKARI is an internationally acclaimed violinist, composer and ethnomusicologist from Finland. He is a one-man-band blending violin, vocals and stomping with ankle-bells. In his performance he enters various trance-states. In this album he will also be playing a traditional Khanty instrument called Ning-juh.

Tuomas is inspired by different forms of dialogue; man and nature, the seen and the unseen world, ancient and future. His first solo album Shamanviolin was a result of ethnomusicological studies of the earliest 20th century wax-cylinder recordings from Siberia. These studies have also led to many collaborations with indigenous artists. He is one of the few artists who have actually returned their art to native communities for evaluation and development.

Enjoy online concert from Kaustinen Folk Music Festival 2020. Shamanviolin at Pauanne is a full-length online concert produced by the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival 2020. The concert was filmed at the magical Pauanne where a community of folk musicians and folk healers used to live in the 1980’s. All buildings are fully hand made with many mythological decorations. This Shamanviolin concert ends with lament melodies in a burnt down sauna. The magic and unique beauty of this place is still strong. A perfect environment for my music.

Danish NORÐ to Release Debut Album, First Single & Video ‘Fear Reigns’ Unveiled

Danish alternative metal quintet NORРis set to release their debut album Machine Blood on March 4th 2022 via Inverse Records. The album is mixed and mastered by the magnificent Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios, Denmark (Volbeat, Amaranthe, Primal Fear, etc). The first single Fear Reigns is released today along with music video.

The band comments:“Fear Reigns is a track that means a lot to us. First of all it’s a killer riff and the verse has harmonic vibrations that would remind you of the Twin Peaks theme. The chorus begins with another bad ass groovy riff followed by a more atmospheric part that will speak to anyone who ever liked Deftones. The bridge is an epic melodic part with tight riffin’ and melancholic soundscapes. The song has been with us for a long time and it still feels fucking awesome to play every time. The crowd also always has a good response to this track.
The lyrics talk about the cracks in the foundation of societies around the world. The ideal of a democracy based on trust is increasingly threatened by more simple means to power such as fear and repression. As the globalization have brought us closer together it has also drawn new battle lines between ideologies. Societies based on ancient traditions and belief collide with capitalistic societies based on the free will of the individual. Cohesiveness is threatened and protectionism becomes stronger.
So some really uplifting themes in that song 🙂 But seriously, we love this song and hope everyone will enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoy playing it.”

When New Jersey metal icon Dan Lorenzo (Hades, Non Fiction, among others) and Type O Negative + ex-Danzig drummer Johnny Kelly join forces to launch a joint project PATRIARCHS IN BLACK, you can already guess that something great is about to happen.

The first single Demon of Regret  features Kelly, Lorenzo, Karl Agell on vocals and Dave Neabore ( Dog Eat Dog) on bass.Demon Of Regret is the very first song Lorenzo and Agell ever wrote together. Lorenzo wrote the music. Lyrically Agell said the track is “About choices made and paths not taken, and our inability to go back no matter how much we wish we could. Consequences. Guilt. Anguish.”

Hear the first single ‘Demon of Regret’ from PATRIARCHS IN BLACK at THIS LOCATION.

Brooklyn native Johnny Kelly and NJ guitarist Dan Lorenzo have both played in more than a handful of bands. Lorenzo was the founding member of both Hades and Non-Fiction and most recently Vessel Of Light and Cassius King. He even wrote the music with Bobby Blitz‘ first foray outside of Overkill in 2007 withThe Cursed. Kelly first came into prominence with Type O Negative and has also sat behind the kit for Danzig for nearly two decades. Kelly has also performed with BlackLabel Society, A Pale Horse Name Death, and currently Quiet Riot and Silvertomb. Before now the two have never recorded anything together.

“I honestly don’t remember how I first got in contact with Johnny”, Lorenzo stated. “I know we’ve had some email contact together for a while, and I remember originally being flattered that Johnny even know who I was.” Kelly stated, “I liked the riffs that Dan sent me and it’s a great opportunity to get to play with different people.” When Kelly was asked what he brings to the table for Patriarch In Black he came back with, “I’m not really sure.  I consider myself to be an average drummer at best.  It must be my harming personality!”

The duo have named this project PATRIARCHS IN BLACK. Lorenzo wrote the music and plays guitar, Kelly is behind the kit.

PATRIARCHS IN BLACK will have multiple vocalists. Karl Agell ( former COC) , Dewey Bragg ( Kill Devil Hill)  Rob Dukes ( former Exodus), Rob Traynor ( Black Water Rising)  and John Kosco  ( Dropbox) have each already agreed to sing at least one song.

When pressed for a description of how the music sounds Kelly said, “All roads lead to Black Sabbath!”.

PATRIARCHS IN BLACK will release their upcoming album next year via MDD. Be prepared, more info soon!

Hungarian GHOST TOAST Release First Single ‘Get Rid of’ from Upcoming Fifth Studio Album

The band comments:

“Get Rid Of is some kind of a battle cry – who the enemy is, is up to you! We wanted this song to be a fast and heavy opener with a sad vibe that turns into a desire for freedom.

Shade Without Color is the follow-up for our 2020 album Shape Without Form. The majority of the songs were written at the same time, and we intented it to be a sort of a „double-album”, in which the two would come out at different times. Both titles come from T.S. Eliot’s poem The Hollow Men and both albums mostly deal with the subject of emptiness, the process of becoming empty – only to an extent which suits an instrumental material, of course.

The basis of thought behind the album is not the actual state of emptiness, it’s rather the things leading up to it – like personal fate, tragedy and weakness; the subject of authority; technology becoming impersonal; politics, alienated people; the feeling of being threatened.

This emptiness uniformizes, dissolves the individual, leaves humankind disenchanted and hopeless.

We look at both records as an illustration of this theme, this is mostly why we use (again) quotes from movies, interviews, speeches or poems. Our own thoughts and feelings are encapsulated within these and of course, within the music surrounding it. We also attempted though to resolve this mostly dark subject, as we do not believe that mankind’s fate generally would be hopeless and that there would be no way out. Darker parts lead to moments filled with more hope, while in the melodies and themes intented to be more beautiful and soft have a recurring dissonance, indicating this constant battle.

It because of this fact that we would omit writing in too much detail about every song, we believe a matching or an actually used quote should be enough to set the mood and give some ground to the concept behind the song.”

“People become attached to their burdens sometimes more than the burdens are attached to them.” –George Bernard Shaw
